Raymarineequipmentandaccessoriesconformtothe
appropriateElectromagneticCompatibility(EMC)regulations,
tominimizeelectromagneticinterferencebetweenequipment
andminimizetheeffectsuchinterferencecouldhaveonthe
performanceofyoursystem
CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMCperformance
isnotcompromised.
ForoptimumEMCperformancewerecommendthatwherever
possible:
•Raymarineequipmentandcablesconnectedtoitare:
–Atleast1m(3ft)fromanyequipmenttransmittingor
cablescarryingradiosignalse.g.VHFradios,cablesand
antennas.InthecaseofSSBradios,thedistanceshould
beincreasedto7ft(2m).
–Morethan2m(7ft)fromthepathofaradarbeam.A
radarbeamcannormallybeassumedtospread20degrees
aboveandbelowtheradiatingelement.
•Theproductissuppliedfromaseparatebatteryfromthatused
forenginestart.Thisisimportanttopreventerraticbehavior
anddatalosswhichcanoccuriftheenginestartdoesnot
haveaseparatebattery.
•Raymarinespeciedcablesareused.
•Cablesarenotcutorextended,unlessdoingsoisdetailedin
theinstallationmanual.
Note:Whereconstraintsontheinstallationprevent
anyoftheaboverecommendations,alwaysensurethe

Forwatercraftwithsuitablestructures,theantennabasemust
beatleast3.5metres(11.5ft)abovethemaindecktomeet
theMPEforpersonsupto2metres(6.6ft)tall.Forwatercraft
withoutsuchstructures,theantennamustbemountedsothat
itsbaseisaminimumof1.5metres(4.9ft)verticallyfromheads
ofallpersons.
Theantennamustbeisolatedfromthevessel’smetalworkusing
aninsulated(e.g.plastic)mountingbracket.

radio.DSCenablesyoutomakeaselectivecalltoaspecic
radio,andtotransmitandreceivepositioninformationtoand
fromtheselectedradio.DSCalsoallowstransmissionof
adistressalerttoallradioswithinrangeatthetouchofa
button.OnceaDSCrequestissentandacknowledgedvoice
communicationiscarriedoutonthechannelchosenbythe
caller.TheradiocantransmitandreceiveonallavailableUS,
CanadianandinternationalandprivatemarineVHFchannels.
YourproductincludestheRay260basestation,ahandsetand
eitherapassiveorandactivespeaker(dependingonvariant).
Extrahandsets,activeandpassivespeakerscanbeaddedto
thestandardRay260providingupto3fullyfunctionalstations.

replacestheolderSeaT alkandSeaT alk2protocols.
SeaTalkngutilizesasinglebackbonetowhichcompatible
instrumentsconnectusingaspur.Dataandpowerarecarried
withinthebackbone.Devicesthathavealowdrawcanbe
poweredfromthenetwork,althoughhighcurrentequipmentwill
needtohaveaseparatepowerconnection.
SeaTalkngisaproprietaryextensiontoNMEA2000andthe
provenCANbustechnology.CompatibleNMEA2000and
SeaTalk/SeaTalk2devicescanalsobeconnectedusingthe
appropriateinterfacesoradaptorcablesasrequired.
NMEA2000
NMEA2000offerssignicantimprovementsoverNMEA0183,
mostnotablyinspeedandconnectivity.Upto50unitscan
simultaneouslytransmitandreceiveonasinglephysicalbusat
anyonetime,witheachnodebeingphysicallyaddressable.The
standardwasspecicallyintendedtoallowforawholenetwork
ofmarineelectronicsfromanymanufacturertocommunicateon
acommonbusviastandardizedmessagetypesandformats.

TheNMEA0183DataInterfaceStandardwasdevelopedby
theNationalMarineElectronicsAssociationofAmerica.Itisan
internationalstandardtoenableequipmentfrommanydifferent
manufacturerstobeconnectedtogetherandshareinformation.
TheNMEA0183standardcarriessimilarinformationtoSeaT alk.
Howeverithastheimportantdifferencethatonecablewillonly
carryinformationinonedirection.ForthisreasonNMEA0183
isgenerallyusedtoconnectadatareceiverandatransmitter
together,e.g.acompasssensortransmittingheadingtoaradar
display.Thisinformationispassedin‘sentences’,eachofwhich
hasathreelettersentenceidentier.Itisthereforeimportant
whencheckingcompatibilitybetweenitemsthatthesame
sentenceidentiersareusedsomeexamplesofwhichare:
•VTG-carriesCourseandSpeedOverGrounddata.
•GLL-carrieslatitudeandlongitude.
•DBT-carrieswaterdepth.
•MWV-carriesrelativewindangleandwindspeeddata.
NMEABaudrates
TheNMEA0183standardoperatesatanumberofdifferent
speeds,dependingupontheparticularrequirementorequipment
capabilities.Typicalexamplesare:
•4800baudrate.Usedforgeneralpurposecommunications,
includingFastHeadingdata.
•38400baudrate.UsedforAISandotherhighspeed
applications.

Cablesmustberoutedcorrectly,tomaximizeperformanceand
prolongcablelife.
•DoNOTbendcablesexcessively.Whereverpossible,ensure
