RBH Sound MCS-88 Quick guide

RBH INWALL SUBWOOFER INSTALLATION AND INSTRUCTION MANUAL
Congratulations on your purchase of the RBH MCS-88 subwoofer! Your subwoofer is the
result of many years of research and development dedicated to producing high quality
products for home audio and audio/video systems. This manual is designed to give you,
the installer or owner, basic information as to the subwoofers installation and operation.
TECHNOLOGY
At the heart of the MCS-88 is a proprietary aluminum woofer. The special aluminum
cone combines stiffness, low mass and self damping properties in a manner that al-
lows virtually uncolored presentation of program material. A powerful magnet and
extended voice coil give the woofers high excursion capability, which ensures accurate
dynamic reproduction.
PAINTING
RBH in-wall subwoofer frames and grilles can be painted any color to match any decor.
A plastic paint shield is supplied and placed inside the grille to protect the speaker from
becoming damaged during painting. PLEASE NOTE: This plastic paint shield must
be removed before operation of the speaker begins.
The MCS-88 utilizes a defeatable crossover network. This crossover is xed at 100Hz
low-pass when the switch is set to “On”; the subwoofer will then only play frequencies
100Hz and below. All frequencies above 100 Hz will be reduced by 12dB per octave.
When set to “Off”, the subwoofer will play the full range of frequencies. This switch
should be in the “On” position when the signal sent to the subwoofer is ‘full-range’ or
not previously ltered through a crossover. The switch should be set to “Off” when the
signal sent to the subwoofer is coming from a source using a crossover, such as the
subwoofer pre-out from some receivers or pre-ampliers. Please refer to your receiver
or pre-amplier owners manual for proper bass management settings information. This
will ensure that the subwoofer is not receiving a signal ltered through two crossovers.
We suggest consulting with your installer, or experimenting with the crossover on and
off to determine which is best for your system.
CROSSOVER
RBH in-wall subwoofers have been designed to make installation as easy as possible.
Upon opening the box you will notice that the retrot nylon mounting bracket is attached
to the subwoofer.
To install, slide the top of the black pinch ring into the drywall cutout opening so the
subwoofer bezel is on the outside of the drywall and the nylon retrot bracket is on the
inside. Slide the bottom of the subwoofer into the drywall the same way, then tighten
the screws. This will cause the nylon bracket to “pinch” the drywall and will hold the
speaker rmly in place. If using a drill/driver, set the clutch to a low setting to prevent
overtightening and possible damage to the frame. If using hand tools, tighten just until
rm. A cutout template is supplied with the subwoofer for your convenience in cutting
the drywall.
INSTALLATION
WIRING
When wiring from a mono amplier, connect both the positive and negative leads to the
same set of terminals, then run a set of speaker wire to the opposite set of terminals,
observing polarity. This will connect the woofers in parallel for a total of a 4 Ohm load.
This is shown in the picture below. A series connection may also be used, creating a
16 Ohm load.
When wiring from a stereo amplier, connect one set of leads to each set of terminals,
observing proper polarity. This will connect each woofer individually as an 8 Ohm load.
This is shown in the picture below.
