Before you start working with the HY-EX, please read the operating
instructions carefully. They contain important information for the
successful operation, maintenance and disposal of the hydraulic expander.

3.0 SPECIFICATION
With hydraulic pressure, this light-weight expander allows a perfect
expansion of copper- and aluminium pipes using just a few pump actions.
This device is characterized by following features:
Single hand operation
The hydraulic mechanism and the thumb
release allow for single hand operation.
The laser-engraved expander heads are easy
to identify and screw on quickly.

Thanks to the unique compact pistol-shape it
is possible to work in hard to access places.

5.0 TRANSPORT, PACKAGING
5.1 TRANSPORT
The HY-EX comes with a plastic case to protect the parts. The plastic case
protects against vibrations during transport and handling. Always use the
plastic case to protect the HY-EX and accessories and secure it to the
cargo area during transport.
5.2 PACKAGING
The plastic case is made of polyethylene and protects the hydraulic
expander from drop damage. It also has space for accessories.
6.0 APPLICATION
1.Cut the pipe to the correct length and deburr it inside and out.
2. Choose the correct expander head size and screw it onto the HY-EX.
3. Push the pipe all the way onto the un-expanded expander head until it
bottoms out.
Warning
Do not push with excessive force and twisting. The expander head
should be free to rotate slightly in the pipe.
With pipes of diameter 1/4”, 5/16”, or 3/8” (6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm),
please heat the copper pipe to be expanded or it will very likely split

depending on the age, quality and wall thickness of the small diameter
tubing.
4. Pull the pump handle until the correct tube diameter is reached.
Normally 16 –22 pumps depending on the size of the expander head
used.
5. Press the thumb release button to loosen and release the expander and
remove from the expanded pipe.
6. Use the saved power for the next step.
7.0 MAINTENANCE
For smooth operation, we recommend removing the expander head and
re-grease the thrust cone after expanding 20 tubes. (Multi-purpose
grease).
It is very important to keep the expander heads and the thrust cone free of
dirt and debris. If debris enters the back side of the expander heads or the
thrust cone, you risk the tool sticking in the expanded position.
Please keep the thrust cone and expander heads clean to ensure proper
operation.
7.1 Filling up hydraulic oil
It is possible to refill HY-EX hydraulic oil in the expander after 10’000 or
more usages.
Warning
The addition of hydraulic oil should be carried out at a suitable location, as
it is possible that oil might be spilled during re-filling and bleeding process.
Procedure:
1. Secure the HY-EX head down / handle up in a bench vice.
2. Unscrew the main handle anti-clockwise. Use a strap wrench to avoid
marring the tool’s finish.
3. Pull out the plug from the oil reservoir.

4. Fill up the hydraulic oil until the reservoir is full (about 15 ml if it is
empty). For an ideal performance, we suggest using ISO-HV-15
hydraulic oil
5. Fully pump up the HY-EX several times with the reservoir open, and
push the release button (yellow), to allow trapped air to escape from the
hydraulic oil.
6. If air escapes, the oil level may decrease. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the
liquid level does not decrease anymore.
7. Close the reservoir with the plug.
8. Screw on the handle.
9. Clean the device.

Manufacturing Ltd has been certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2008.
Regular quality control checks as well as an accurate manufacturing
process guarantee reliable functionality and are the basis for the REFCO
guarantee, in accordance with the General Terms and Conditions of Sale
and Delivery applicable on the day of delivery. Excluded from the
guarantee are damage caused by obvious maltreatment and wear and
tear.

9.0 RETURN DISPOSAL
The HY-EX has been developed for long-term use.
Attention was paid to energy saving and environmental
compatibility at the material procurement and
production stages. REFCO embraces its responsibility
towards the environment, and has therefore been
certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14001:2015.
When decommissioning the device, the user must
follow local disposal regulations.

1.0 EINLEITUNG

2.0 ALLGEMEINES
Bevor Sie die Arbeit mit dem HY-EX aufnehmen, lesen Sie aufmerksam die
Bedienungsanleitung. Sie gibt Ihnen wichtige Hinweise für den
reibungslosen Betrieb, den Unterhalt und die Entsorgung des
hydraulischen Expanders.

Lesen Sie alle Sicherheitshinweise gründlich durch und halten Sie sie ein:

Beim Arbeiten mit dem hydraulischen Expander sind immer

für die Handhabung durch ausgebildete Kälte-Techniker.

physikalischen Gase, die in Kältesystemen verwendet

3.0 TECHNISCHE DATEN
Mit hydraulischem Druck ermöglicht diese Leichtgewicht-Expander-
Werkzeug durch wenige Pumpbewegungen, eine perfekte Ausweitung von
Kupfer- und Aluminium-Rohren.
Das Gerät zeichnet sich durch folgende Eigenschaften aus:
Einhand-Bedienung
Der hydraulische Mechanismus sowie die
Schnelllösevorrichtung ermöglichen eine
einhändige Bedienung. Die laser-gravierten
Köpfe können einfach aufgeschraubt werden.
Raumsparend
Dank der kompakten Pistolenform ist auch das
Arbeiten an schwer zugänglichen Stellen
möglich.
120° Winkel
Erfordert weniger Pumpkraft und sorgt für
eine ergonomische Handhabung und optimale
Werkzeugführung.
Austauschbare Köpfe
Passend für alle gängigen HVAC/R zölligen
Kupferrohre. Köpfe für metrische Kupferrohre
sind ebenfalls erhältlich.
Kompatibilität
Kompatibel mit auf dem Markt gängigen
Expander Werkzeugen.

5.0 TRANSPORT, VERPACKUNG UND LAGERUNG
5.1 TRANSPORT
Der hydraulische Expander wird mit Kunststoffkoffer zum Schutz der Teile
geliefert. Der Kunststoffkoffer schützt vor Vibrationen beim Transport und
bei der Handhabung. Nutzen Sie immer den Kunststoffkoffer als Schutz
des hydraulischen Expanders und Zubehör und sichern Sie diesen beim
Transport auf der Ladefläche.
5.2 VERPACKUNG
Der Kunststoffkoffer besteht aus Polyethylen und schützt den
hydraulischen Expander vor Sturzschäden. Ebenso können Zubehör
mitgetragen werden.
6.0 ANWENDUNG
1. Das Rohr zum Aufweiten auf Länge schneiden und innen sauber
entgraten.
2. Aufweitkopf in der richtigen Grösse wählen und auf HY-EX
aufschrauben.
3. Das Rohr bis auf Anschlag über den Aufweitkopf schieben.
Warnung
Nicht mit Gewalt und Verschieben einschieben. Der Aufweitkopf soll sich
im Rohr frei drehen können.

Bei 1/4”, 5/16”, oder 3/8” (6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm) Rohren muss das Kupfer
unbedingt vor dem Aufweiten weichgeglüht werden. Je nach Alter, Qualität
und Wandstärke ist es sonst möglich, dass das Kupfer sich spaltet.
4. Pumpengriff betätigen bis der richtige Rohrdurchmesser erreicht ist.
Normalerweise 16 –22 Pumpbewegungen je nach Grösse der
verwendeten Aufweitköpfe.
5. Auslösehebel (gelb) betätigen um das Werkzeug wieder zu entspannen
und vom fertig aufgeweitetem Rohr zu entfernen.
6. Nutzen sie die eingesparte Energie für den nächsten Arbeitsgang.
7.0 WARTUNG
Für einen reibungslosen Betrieb empfehlen wir nach 20 aufgeweiteten
Rohren den Aufweitkopf zu entfernen und den Konus neu einzufetten.
(Mehrzweckfett NLGI1 oder NLGI2).
Es ist sehr wichtig die Aufweitköpfe und den Konus frei von Schmutz und
Fremdkörpern zu halten. Wenn Fremdkörper in die Rückseite von
Aufweitköpfen oder in den Konus gelangen, kann es sein, dass das
Werkzeug in der aufgeweiteten Position blockiert.
Bitte halten Sie die Aufweitköpfe und den Konus sauber um eine
ordnungsgemässe Anwendung sicherzustellen.
7.1 Auffüllen von Hydrauliköl
Nach 10’000 oder mehr Benutzungen ist es möglich, dass dem Expander
HY-EX Hydrauliköl nachgefüllt werden muss.
Warnung
Das Hinzufügen von Hydraulikflüssigkeit sollte an geeigneter Stelle
durchgeführt werden. Es ist möglich, dass während dem Auffüllen Öl
verschüttet werden kann.

Vorgehen:
1. HY-EX kopfüber in Schraubstock oder auf andere geeignete Weise
sichern.
2. Den Griff gegen den Uhrzeigersinn abschrauben.
3. Stopfen (nur gesteckt) sorgfältig aus Ölreservoir entfernen um zu
vermeiden, dass Öl verschüttet wird.
4. Hydrauliköl auffüllen bis der Behälter voll ist (etwa 15 ml wenn leer).
Hydrauliköl ISO-HV-15 wird für optimale Leistung empfohlen.
5. Mit offenem Reservoir den HY-EX mehrmals betätigen und mit
Auslösehebel (gelb) wieder entspannen, damit die Luft aus dem Öl
entweichen kann.
6. Wenn die Luft entweicht, kann sich der Flüssigkeitsstand verringern.
Wiederholen Sie die Schritte 4 und 5, bis sich der Flüssigkeitsstand nicht
mehr verringert.
7. Reservoir mit dem Stopfen wieder gut verschliessen.
8. Handgriff wieder aufschrauben.
9. Gerät von überflüssiger Hydraulikflüssigkeit reinigen.
8.0 GARANTIE

ergonomischen Gesichtspunkten entwickelt worden und entspricht dem
aktuellen Stand der Technik. Das Unternehmen REFCO Manufacturing Ltd
wurde nach DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 zertifiziert. Regelmässige
Qualitätskontrollen sowie eine sorgfältige Verarbeitung gewährleisten eine
solide Funktionsfähigkeit und ermöglichen die REFCO-Garantie
entsprechend den am Tage der Auslieferung geltenden allgemeinen
Verkaufs- und Lieferbedingungen. Ausgenommen davon sind durch
offensichtlich unsorgfältige Behandlung sowie durch Verschleiss
entstehende Schäden.

9.0 RÜCKSENDUNG UND ENTSORGUNG
Der HY-EX ist für den Langzeitgebrauch entwickelt
worden. Bei der Materialbeschaffung und der
Produktion wurde auf Energieersparnis und
Umweltverträglichkeit geachtet. REFCO Manufacturing
Ltd sieht sich „zeitlebens“ verantwortlich für seine
Produkte. Aus diesem Grund hat sich REFCO
Manufacturing nach der DIN EN ISO 14001:2015
zertifizieren lassen. Bei Ausserbetriebssetzung des
Gerätes sollte der Anwender die geltenden Entsorgungsvorschriften seines
Landes beachten.
