Renesas Cam it! RX64M User manual

Introduction
The Cam it! - RX64M Camera Solution Kit
demonstrates the Renesas RX64M interfaced with a
color CMOS Camera module. Firmware provides
human detection, image correction and movement
detection. Theuser interface is a webpage displaying
JPEG encoded images, served over a wired Ethernet
connection.
The Cam it! - RX64M Camera Solution Kit is supplied
with pre-programmed firmware. This QSG covers the
setup and the operation of this kit. Please refer to

Application Note for detailsof setting up the
development environment and using an E1 debugger.
Fitting the Camera
Insert the camera module in to J23 of the mainassembly. Ensure Pin 1 of the Camera Module is aligned withPin 1of

Connecting the Cam it! Kit
Network Connection:
The Cam it! Kit is supplied with a straight through RJ45 Ethernet cable. Thiscan be connected tothe developmentPC
via an Ethernet Hub/Switch, or connected directly to the development PC if it supports Auto-MDIX (automatic
crossover).
USB Connection:
Using the supplied USB Ato Micro-B cable connect the Cam it! Kit to a spare USB port on the developmentPC. This is
used to supply power. The software takes about 50 seconds to complete its startup process. When the device is ready
to use LED3 will start to flash.
Configuring the Development PC
The Cam it!Kit uses an IP address of 192.168.1.3, the development PC needs to be given a static IP address to
communicate with the Cam it! Kit.
Windows™ 7, 8 & 10:
1) Press + keys together to display Windows™ desktop,
2) Right click on the network icon found on the right of the task bar.
This will be or if a wireless network is also connected,
3) Click ,
4) Click ,
5) Right Click on the Network Connection which is connected to the Cam it! Kit and select ‘Properties’,
6) In the Propertieswindow select and click‘Properties’.
7) Click ‘Use the following IP address’ and enter the details shown below:
8) Click ‘OK’ and then ‘Close’.
Running the Demonstration
The Cam-IT! CPU board ‘GR KAEDE’ has 4 User LEDs, in addition to the Power LED.

Normal Capture
Images capturedby the Cam-it! Camera Moduleare JPEG encoded and streamed to theWeb Browser.
The JPEG Quality can beset in this page, thisis also applied in the Human & Moving detection demonstrations.
User Parameters:
JPEG Quality: 1 to128. Quality of the encoded JPEG image. 1 – Lowest Quality, 128 – Best Quality.
IMAGE SENSOR REG-WT: Read and write control registersfrom the cameramodule. SeeApplication Note forfurther
details.
After entering each value, click the ‘Set’ button immediately below the value to accept the change.
Human detection
Demonstrates the moving Human Body Detection feature. The Human Detection algorithm runs on images constantly
captured by the Camera Module. This algorithm looks for movementand determinesif the movement is from ahuman.
The area of anyhumansdetected is highlighted by a red and green boxon thedisplayed image
The capture screen is divided in to nine separate areas. To the right of the image is a count of the bodies detected in
each area.
User Parameters:
Threshold: 1-9. Discrimination threshold for a moving body.
Sensitivity: 1-15. Amount of difference between images that is considered as movement.
After entering each value, click the ‘Set’ button immediately belowthe value to accept the change.
Moving detection
Continuously captures images, identifyingand highlights movement in the field of view. A red highlight isapplied over
each area of the image where movementis detected.A red and greenbox is shown around an area ofmovement
detected as a moving object.
The capture screen is divided in to nine separate areas. To the right of theimageis a count of the moving objects
detected in each area
User Parameters:
Threshold: 1 to 10. Discrimination thresholdfor a moving object.
Sensitivity: 1 to 10. Amount of difference between images that is considered as movement.
After entering each value, click the ‘Set’ button immediately belowthe value to accept the change.
Distortion correction
Compensates for Horizontal and Vertical distortion of the captured image. This is useful to compensate for distortions
associated with cameraoptics, especially with wide-angle lenses.
Once setin this page, the compensation is also appliedin the Human & Moving detection demonstrations.
User Parameters:
Function Valid: 0 – Disables Correction; 1 – Enables Correction
H-Correction: -127 to 127. Horizontal correction value.
V-Correction: -127 to 127.Vertical correctionvalue.
After entering each value, click the ‘Set’ button immediately belowthe value to accept the change.
Capture stop
Stops capture of images fromthe camera module. Image capture is restarted by clicking on the requiredblue ‘START’
button.
