Adult supervision is required at all times.
• Do not use this product on rough and uneven terrain, around
swimming pools, or near stairways.
• All mobility equipment may become unstable when used improperly.
• Straps and supports are provided for the safety of the user and must
be carefully adjusted for comfort and security. The use of straps and
supports must be supervised at all times.
• Restraints – Using straps, trays or supports to restrict a client’s
movement is considered behavioral restraint, which may raise ethical
and legal issues for your facility. Rifton Equipment is not intended for
this use.
• Do not exceed the maximum working load (see page 5).

Recommended use
The Rifton Toddler Chair is a Class 1 medical device. It is designed to encourage
normal sitting posture. It has adjustments for varying degrees of abduction and
knee flexion. The Toddler Chair is for indoor use on level, dry surfaces.

The user’s overall height is a general guide to help you select the appropriate chair. Choose the
model that allows for growth.
Important: Make sure that seat width, depth, and height are adequate for each individual user, and
that the user’s weight does not exceed the maximum weight recommended.

Footrest
The swing-away footrest is attached behind
the calfrest for shipment only.
To attach the footrest (see Figure 6a):
• Remove the footrest by removing the
knobs and thick washers (A).
• Position the footrest making sure the
thin washers are between the calfrest
and footrest.
• Replace knobs and washers (A) and
tighten securely.
The position of the footrests can be
adjusted by loosening knobs (A) and
raising or lowering the footrest to the
desired positions (see Figure 6a).
Calfrest
The angle of the calfrest can be adjusted
by loosening knob (B) and adjusting the
calfrest to the desired position
(see Figure 6b).
Hip strap
The Toddler Chair hip strap positions and
stabilizes the hips (see Figure 6c). The dual
buckle (C) can be adjusted from either side,
allowing it to be off center.

CAUTION
Tighten all knobs securely.

Accessories
Tray
To attach the tray to the chair, slide it over
the armrests until both latches engage in
the holes in the armrests.
WARNING
The tray is not designed to hold a
child in the chair. Always use the
straps and supports to secure child.
Hand Anchor
Recommended use
A hand Anchor can be used on the Toddler
Chair tray. It gives the child an anchor
to control excessive movement of the
arms and encourages stabilization of the
shoulder girdle. The child may hold on with
both hands for stabilization training or with
one hand.
Operation
On a clean smooth Rifton table or tray,
press down on suction cup of Hand
Anchor and turn handhold clockwise
until secure. To remove, turn handhold
counterclockwise.
WARNING
• This accessory is intended
for use on Rifton trays only
and is not to be used as a primary
support or as a standing support.
CAUTION
• Suction cup may release.
• Do not use on thin glass.
Notice: Surface must be very smooth
and completely clean to get a strong
seal. If suction cup does not hold
well, wipe with a damp cloth or
apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly
around the rim of the rubber pad to
enhance the vacuum.

Chest support vest
The chest support vest provides extra
comfort and support for the child and
encourages normal posture in the sitting
position.
To secure the chest support vest around the
child's chest and the back of the chair, use
the wide hook and loop fasteners provided.
The straps go over the shoulders and fasten
on the back of the vest, keeping the vest
at the correct height. When used with the
Toddler Chair backrest, the shoulder straps
may be threaded through the appropriate
slots and fastened on the back of the vest.
WARNING
The vest is not intended for use as
a safety belt; it keeps the child from
slumping forward.

Oblong abduction block
The oblong abduction block provides 2¼"
or 4½" of abduction.
To attach abduction block to the chair,
insert pegs into seat holes.
Mini wedge
The mini wedge is a soft, angled support
that can be used to change the angle of
the back.
Notice: The positioning of the
abduction block will vary according to
each child.

Backrest
The Toddler Chair backrest provides head
support and an additional 24" height
support for the child.
To attach the backrest to the chair, place
the backrest inside the chair (see Figure
10a). Screw the stud knobs (A) through
the washers (B) and then through the back
of the chair, into the threaded inserts in
the backrest.
See page 11 for instructions on how to
attach the pad.
Head blocks
Attach head blocks by removing the
knobs and washers (C). Position head
blocks where desired and reassemble with
washers against back of backrest
(see Figure 10a).

CAUTION

Pads (high and low)
The high or low pad provides extra comfort
and cushioning on the back and seat.
To attach the pad, slip over top of backrest
and insert strap tabs (A) through gaps on
either side of the backrest (see Figure 11a).

Sandals
To attach sandals to the Toddler Chair
footrest: insert carriage bolts through the
sandals and the footrest, thread knobs on
bolts, tighten securely.
The position of the sandals can be adjusted
by loosening the knobs and re-positioning
the sandals as desired.

WARNING
• Never put a chair with a child in it,
onto the chair dolly.
• Never leave a child unattended
when in a chair on the chair dolly.
• When using Rifton Toddler Chairs,
always secure child with the hip
strap provided.
• Always brace the dolly and lock
all four casters before lifting or
assisting a child into a chair on the
chair dolly.
• If a child’s spastic or involuntary
movements cause the casters to
move when locked, do not use the
dolly.
Dolly
The Toddler Chair dolly enables mobility.
Before using the dolly familiarize yourself
with the foot operated caster brakes and
how to lock and unlock them.
• Brace the chair dolly against a wall
and lock all four casters with the
step-on levers.
• Place the rear legs of the Toddler Chair
between the dowels on the dolly.
• Always lock the casters of the chair
dolly after it has been moved, whether
occupied or unoccupied.
Store the chair dolly upright, against a
wall, or in a closet where it will not be
tripped over.
This chair dolly is not designed for use on
deep carpet, rough floors or out of doors.

Maintenance
This product is designed and tested for an expected life of 5 years when used
and maintained in accordance with this manual. At all times, users must ensure
that the product remains in a safe and useable condition, including regular
maintenance and inspections as specified in the manual. To prevent structural
failures and SERIOUS INJURIES, do not use Rifton components and products
for any purpose other than for their intended use. Inspect Rifton components
and products regularly for loose or missing screws or rivets, metal fatigue,
cracks, broken welds, missing attachments, loose staples and general instability.
Immediately remove from use when any condition develops that might make
operation unsafe. Replace or repair components or products that are damaged
or appear to be unstable. Use only Rifton authorized replacement parts. Order
information for replacement parts is provided on the back of this product manual.
Cleaning
As needed, clean Toddler Chair and Dolly with disinfectant wipes or a solution of
up to 10% bleach. Do not use excessive amounts of water.
The hip strap may be removed for cleaning. To remove strap, pull the tab and twist
it to align it with the T-slot on the chair side. Pull on the strap as you push the tab
through the slot.
To replace the strap, push the tab all the way through the T-slot and pull the strap
back so that the tab sits flat. Be sure to replace the strap securely after cleaning.
Clean tray with a mild detergent or disinfectant. Do not use abrasive cleaners, do
not leave in hot sun, and do not send through a dishwasher.
Warranty Statement
If a Rifton product breaks or fails in service during the first year, we will replace it
free of charge.

Materials
• Steel hardware items (nuts, bolts, screws, etc) are typically zinc or nickel plated,
or stainless steel.
• Upholstery items (pads, support blocks, padded prompts, etc) are typically
fire-retardant polyurethane foam with a fire-retardant cover made from
expanded vinyl.
• Frames are typically steel or aluminum tubing, welded together, and
coated with a baked-on paint finish. Some frame components may also be
stainless steel.
• Tires are tubeless, filled with polyurethane foam, and do not require inflation.
• Straps are typically made of polypropylene or nylon webbing.
• Wooden components are typically birch plywood, solid maple, or laminated
hardwood veneers, finished with a clear polyurethane lacquer.
• Tabletops are typically high-pressure laminate (Formica).
• Plastic components are typically injection molded from a variety of
industrial resins.
• All materials are latex, lead and phthalates free.
User modifications
CAUTION: Rifton Equipment cannot accept responsibility for any modifications
or alterations made to our components or products after they leave our premises.
Customers modifying or altering our components or products, or using them
in conjunction with products from other manufacturers, do so at their own risk
since we are unable to validate the safety and efficacy of the modified or altered
product. The modification or alteration of our components and products, or the
use of our components or products in conjunction with products from other
manufacturers, may make the components and products unsafe, which could
result in SERIOUS INJURIES.
