SECTION 2 –OPERATING PROCEDURES AND SAFETY MEASURES
3. Always maintain a positive control of the speed throttle.
4. Once HERCULES’ ARM is in position near the carcass or the object to be pulled, unhook the cable and
pull it out to the desired length using the winch down button. Maintain a steady tension on the cable
to help it unwind.
Speed throttle
!
DANGER
Avoid sudden changes in speed during all operations. Maintain a safe speed of travel
that is appropriate to your environment.
ENGLISH

NOTE
•We recommend the use of thick leather gloves, safety googles and safety helmet
when handling the winch cable.
•
While unwinding or rewinding, keep your hands steady and wear thick leather
gloves to prevent knots from forming in the cable.
•It is possible to unhook the winch to unwind the cable manually.
!
DANGER
•Wear appropriate clothing and be careful with long hair and jewelry.
•
HERCULES’S ARM has been designed to transport pig carcasses and other heavy
objects. Prudence and good judgment are required when using the pig hearse.

13
SECTION 2 –OPERATING PROCEDURES AND SAFETY MEASURES
5. If desired, it is possible to unwind the cable manually by disengaging the winch using a lever or a clutch
dial according to the winch model.
6. Place the cable around the neck (front loading) or the hind legs (back loading) of the carcass and
secure it by attaching it to the hooks. For better results when attaching the carcass by the neck, install
the hook slightly under the head so that it is first pulled up. This will help avoiding obstacles such as
troughs and edges of aisles.

ENGLISH
!
CAUTION
When using a synthetic cable, align the hook with the protective sheath (shown
above) to extend its lifespan. Without the sheath, the hook can damage the cable
prematurely.

CAUTION
When turning the clutch dial in engaged position, make sure the winch is properly
engaged by pulling on the cable before winching up any load.

14
SECTION 2 –OPERATING PROCEDURES AND SAFETY MEASURES
7. By simply lifting the lock rod from the swivel base, rotate the inclinable telescopic arm to the proper
angle so that the slide is aligned with the carcass. Leave the swivel base unlocked to facilitate winching
and transport.
8. Using the ratchet, bring the telescopic arm to an upright or slightly backward position (as recommended)
to pull a carcass.

SECTION 2 –OPERATING PROCEDURES AND SAFETY MEASURES
11. Clear the winching area and position yourself in front of the control box.
12. By pushing the winch up button, hoist the carcass along the slide until it touches the telescopic support
rods. Keep a regular tension on the cable with one hand while rewinding the excess cable.
!
/
DANGER
•When winching, never allow anybody in the winching area or near the carcass or the
object being pulled. Only the operator behind the control box can be present while
the pig hearse is being operated.
•In order to avoid injuries in the event of cable rupture, keep clear of the cable at all
times.

17
SECTION 2 –OPERATING PROCEDURES AND SAFETY MEASURES
!
DANGER
Make sure the cable is well inserted in the cable hook before starting the winching
process.
NOTE
When used properly, HERCULES’ ARM is capable of lifting the largest of pig carcasses.
ENGLISH

18
SECTION 2 –OPERATING PROCEDURES AND SAFETY MEASURES
13. Once the carcass is raised up to the telescopic support rods, lower it slightly to remove the support rods.
14. Remove the telescopic support rods and store them in their respective places on the mast as shown
below. Then, hoist the carcass up to the top of the inclined telescopic arm.

!
CAUTION
Maintain eye contact with the animal and the cable hook when winching to prevent
the animal or the hook from reaching the masthead.

19
SECTION 2 –OPERATING PROCEDURES AND SAFETY MEASURES
15. Install the chain to avoid the carcass from falling from the slide during transport.
For better maneuverability in the aisles once the carcass is hoisted, leave the swivel base unlocked, especially
in the case of a narrow turn. We also suggest letting part of the carcass touch the ground to lower the center
of gravity and thus give better stability to the pig hearse.
!
DANGER
•Keep the carcass as low and as close to the ground as possible to maintain stability while
moving.
•When moving the pig hearse on a steep slope, lower the carcass so that part of it touches
the ground to prevent HERCULES’ ARM from tipping over.
•When backing up HERCULES’ ARM, keep a certain distance so that you do not get your feet
crushed by the wheels.
•
Always keep an eye on the direction of travel to avoid obstacles.
