INSTALLATION
The log set, log grate and crushed lava rock are shipped together on applicable models. Remove the log set and un-pack
all components. Check for damage caused by freight / transport. DO NOT install damaged components. The logs are
fragile, use care when handling.
Place the Outdoor Gas Fireplace on a level/secure surface in a desired location. The location must be adjacent to the gas
supply cylinder or near the natural gas supply outlet of your house.
NOTE: Minimum clearances to combustible construction must be maintained.
You must have clear and easy access to the on/off valve AFTER the appliance is installed and connected to the gas
supply in order to safely turn of the burner.
The burner must be replaced prior to the appliance being put into operation. If it is evident that the burner is damaged a
replacement burner should be installed as specified by the manufacturer.
THE ON/OFF VALVE IS USED TO TURN THE BURNER ON AND OFF.
NATURAL GAS
Connect the incoming gas supply line to the on/off gas valve of the appliance. Make certain ALL gas connections are tight,
turn the on/off valve at the unit to the ‘on’ position and use soap and water to test for leaks. Gas will be released at the
burner for this duration. DO NOT USE AN OPEN FLAME & REMOVE BATTERY FROM IGNITER BEFORE
PERFORMING THIS TEST. An authorized gas appliance installer must provide this installation service. Note that
the correct natural gas orifice must also be installed prior to fuel line hook up to maintain proper flame height and clean
burn of fuel.
LP, (Liquid Propane), GAS
1. 20lb Propane cylinder should be positioned on a flat level surface near the fire pit, but within the pre-described
safe distance away.
2. Make sure the tank valve is in its full off position. (Turn clock-wise to stop)
3. Check tank valve features to ensure it has proper mating threads. Tank Valve Marked: USE WITH TYPE 1
4. Inspect hose shipped with the unit for damage. Never attempt to use damaged or plugged equipment. See your
local LP Gas Dealer for repairs.
5. After inspecting the LP hose shipped with the unit, connect the end with the female fitting on the hose to the male
fitting on the on/off gas valve at the end of the hose. Tighten fittings using 2 wrenches.
6. When connecting regulator assembly to the tank valve, hand tighten black QCC1 nut clockwise to a positive stop.
DO NOT use a wrench to tighten. Refer to image below for proper connection. Use of a wrench may damage the
quick closing coupling nut and result in a hazardous condition.

7. Locate the hose out of the pathways where people may trip over it or in areas where the hose may be subjected
to accidental damage.
8. Open tank valve fully (counter-clockwise). Turn the on/off valve at the unit to the ‘off’ position to pressurize the
hose assembly. Use a soapy water solution to check all the connections between the propane tank connection
and the ball valve at the back of the control panel for leaks before attempting to light the appliance. If a leak is
found, turn the tank valve off and do not use the appliance until repairs can be made. Note that the unit must be
turned upside-down or on its side to perform this examination. It is also important to remove battery from
igniter before performing any leak testing by unscrewing the push-button knob at the control panel.
Perform leak test in a well ventilated area outside and where no source of spark can occur.
9. If everything is secure and leak free to this point you are ready to light your RUSH fireplace. Read OPERATION
instructions.
ENCLOSURES FOR LP, (Liquid Propane), GAS SUPPLY SYSTEMS
If you build an enclosure for an LP gas cylinder, follow these recommended specifications and follow local codes.
Enclosures for LP gas supply cylinders shall be ventilated by openings at the level of cylinder valve and at floor level.
The effectiveness of the opening(s) for purposes of ventilation shall be determined with the LP gas supply cylinder(s)
in place. This shall be accomplished by one of the following:
1. One side of the enclosure shall be completely open;
Or
2. For an enclosure having four sides, a top and bottom:
a) At least two ventilation openings at cylinder valve level shall be provided in the side wall, equally sized,
spaced at 180 degrees (3.14 rad), and unobstructed. Each opening shall have a total free area of not less
then ½ square inch per pound (3.2 sq. cm/kg) of stored fuel capacity and not less then a total free area of
10 square inches (64.5 sq. cm).
b) Ventilation opening(s) shall be provided at floor level and shall have a total free area of ½ inch per pound
(3.2 sq. cm/k) of stored fuel capacity and not less than a total free area of 10 square inches if the
ventilation openings at floor level are in a side wall, there shall be at least two openings. The bottom of
the openings shall be at floor level and the upper edge no more than 5 inches (127 mm) above the floor.
The openings shall be equally sized, spaced at 180 degrees (3014 rad) and unobstructed.
c) Every opening shall have minimum dimensions so as to permit the entrance of a 1/8 inch (3.2mm)
diameter rod.
3. Cylinder valves shall readily be accessible for hand operation. A door on the enclosure to gain access to the
cylinder valve is acceptable, provided it is non-locking and can be opened with out the use of tools
4. There shall be a minimum clearance of 2 inches (40.8mm) between the lower surface of the floor and the LP gas
supply cylinder enclosure and the ground.
5. The design if the enclosure shall be such that (1) the LP gas supply cylinder(s) can be connected, disconnected
and the connections inspected and tested outside the cylinder enclosure; and (2) those connections which could
be disturbed when installing the cylinder(s) in the enclosure can be leak tested inside the enclosure.
6. Be certain to mount or set the 20lb LP gas cylinder on a flat surface and restrain it to prevent it from tipping.
Purge the gas supply line of any trapped air prior to the first firing of the unit.
WARNING: During the initial purging and subsequent lightings, NEVER allow gas to remain in the ‘Open”
position when not ignited.
OPERATION
Upon completing the gas line connection, a small amount of air will be in the lines. When the first lighting the burner, it will
take a few seconds for the lines to purge themselves of this air.

Once the purging is complete, the burner will light and operate as indicated in the instruction manual. Subsequent lighting
of the appliance will not require such a purging unless the gas supply has been disconnected.
WARNING: Read and follow the safety and lighting instruction page in this manual and on the labels on the appliance.
BY NOT FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS, A FIRE/ EXPLOSION MAY RESULT. YOU MAY BE SERIOUSLY INJURED.
BASIC SET UP
Once the Outdoor Gas Fireplace is in position, level and safely hooked up to the proper fuel supply; it is now time to install
the log grate over the plate burner. Next place the lava rock around the flat burner plate. DO NOT place the lava rock on
the burner plate as it will affect the flow of the flame. Next install the ceramic fire logs onto the grate. Start by laying one
log in the centre of the grate length wise. Lay the other logs, (quantity may vary by unit type), over the first log as in the
figure below (See Log Placement Picture referring to V-1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000). For the V-6000 place 2 logs
length wise in the grate and position remaining logs over them in an angled position as shown in Placement Picture for
FRP-4300). Please ensure the logs are place securely to avoid any movement. NOTE: Be sure unit is cool before
touching any of the components.

FOR YOUR SAFTY READ BEFORE LIGHTING
A. Before operating smell all around the appliance area for gas odors and next to the floor because some gases
are heavier then air and will settle on the floor.
B. Use only your hand to turn the manual gas control valve. Never use tools. If the valve will not turn by hand, do
not try to repair it. Call a qualified service technician. Force or attempted repair may result in a fire or
explosion,
C. Do not use this appliance if any part has been under water. Immediately call a qualified service technician to
inspect the appliance and replace any part of the control system and any gas control which has been under
water.
D. Make sure the ignitor battery has been installed properly. Ignitor will not operate properly without a battery
installed.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS
•Do not try to light any appliance.
•Do not touch any electric switch; do not use any phone in your building.
•Immediately call your gas supplier’ from a neighbors phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions.
•If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.
LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Remove protective storage cover and locate the manual gas control valve and igniter button on the fireplace.
2. Make sure fuel supply is properly connected and turned on at the source / tank.
3. Depress igniter button until you hear it sparking. You will hear a small popping noise. Keep igniter button
pushed in while turning the fuel flow valve slowly to 1/3 flow position until it ignites then turn the flow to full.
The fireplace should light within 5 seconds. If you do not hear the igniter sparking you may need to replace /
install the battery. Replace / install with a standard AAA battery, directly behind the rubber push button knob,
(unscrew knob to access battery). Note some models ship with the batteries removed or may not be included
with your model.
4. If a flame does not start within 10 seconds, shut off all gas supply and wait FIVE, (5), minutes to allow all gas
fumes to clear. Re-try or go to trouble-shooting and start from Step-1 again.
TO TURN OFF GAS
Turn the ON/OFF valve to the off position at the unit for Natural Gas unit. For LP unit, turn the ON/OFF valve to the OFF
position at the unit and then turn the valve on the LP tank to the OFF position clockwise.
NOTE
The
propane regulator in this appliance is equipped with a excess flow protection device. Unless the propane cylinder
valve is opened before the valve, the gas flow will be reduced resulting in a very small flame.
To reset this device, shut off the valve, then the propane cylinder valve.
Follow the lighting procedure ensuring the propane cylinder valve is opened before the unit is.
MAINTENANCE
1. The appliance should be inspected before initial use and inspected and cleaned at least annually by a qualified service
person.
2. Tampering is DANGEROUS and voids all warranties. Any component that is found to be faulty must be replaced with
an approved component.
3. To obtain proper operation, it is imperative that the burner flame characteristics are constant, not lifting or floating. For a
clean burn the unit is designed to run at full flow. If not operating at full fuel flow black smoke may start to occur. Always
operate at full fuel flow to burn clean and prevent smoke. Dirty logs can be easily cleaned off with water and light soap.
4. Periodically remove the logs and examine the burner and its components. If dirty, clean with a soft brush and soapy
water solution. Also examine the area around the burner. Any dirt or foreign material, such as spider webs or nests in this
area should be removed. This will ensure long life, safe and trouble free operation.
5. Periodically check the hose connecting the LP gas cylinder to ensure it is not cracked or damaged in any way. All
natural gas hook-ups should be serviced and inspected only by qualified installers only.
NOTE: Carbon (soot) may built up on the surface of the logs over time or with extended use. This is more likely to occur
when using LP, (propane), gas. The soot should be cleaned off the surfaces of the imitation logs periodically to prevent
excessive build up. To clean the logs, be sure the fire is out, the gas supply is turned off and the logs are cool to the
touch. The soot can then be brushed of with a dry bristle brush or cloth. Take care while cleaning the logs as they can
become damaged if mishandled. Care should be taken to dispose of the soot and the cleaning materials properly. Keep
away from clothing and outdoor furniture.
During the cold winter months or in colder climates, it is recommended to disconnect the RUSH gas log fireplace and
store it in a cool dry place. Do not store the propane tank inside. For the balance of the year, protect and cover your
fireplace from the rain, freezing rain or heavy snow by using the custom RUSH cover than comes with the kit. Before
installing the cover make sure the unit is shut off, that the gas lines are disconnected and that the unit has had sufficient

time to cool. Install the cover and use the tie-down straps to secure it tightly to the unit to prevent the wind from blowing it
off.
HIGH ELEVATION INSTALLATION
This listed gas appliance fire pit is approved for elevations from 0 to 4500 feet in Canada and the U.S. A. When installing
this fireplace at an elevation above 4500 feet (in the U.S.), it may be necessary to decrease the input rating by changing
the existing burner orifice to a smaller size. Input should be reduced four percent (4%) for each 1,000 feet above sea
level, unless the heating value of the gas has been reduce, in which case this general rule will not apply. To identify the
proper orifice size, check with your local gas utility. When installing this unit at an elevation above 4,500 feet (in Canada),
check with your local authorities. Consult the local gas utility for assistance in determining the proper orifice for your
location.

NATURAL GAS CONVERSION INSTRUCTIONS FOR GAS LOG FIREPLACE
CAUTION: This service is to be completed only by an authorized gas appliance installer. Do
not attempt this conversion on your own as there is risk of serious injury or death.
To The Authorized Gas Appliance Installer,
All RUSH Gas Log Fireplaces are shipped from the factory equipped to burn on liquid propane fuel. Enclosed with this kit
is a natural gas conversion kit to allow the owner to convert and operate this unit on natural gas. To perform this
conversion, please follow the directions below and to the local regulation standards in your area.
STEP # 1: Make sure unit is not in operation and is cool enough to perform this service. Shut off and disconnect propane
fuel source at the regulator end.
STEP # 2: Carefully remove the storage cover, lava rocks and fire logs. Turn unit over to access hose connections
underneath.
STEP # 3: While holding the propane orifice in place with a wrench, unscrew brass fitting on fuel inlet hose. Unscrew
propane orifice and remove.
STEP # 4: Using the new brass natural gas orifice re-install the parts in the same sequence. Turn the protective screen /
air intake sleeve to allow a controlled amount of air flow through the screen and into the fuel supply tube. Flame should
have good retention.
STEP # 5: Refer to photo below for proper placement of parts. The washer should insert next to the protective screen
cover, then the spring is to be aligned with the hole and finally the natural gas orifice is to be threaded into the end of the
fuel inlet leading into the burner. Once tight the other brass fitting connection can be made from the fuel line fitted
between the valve and the orifice.
STEP # 6: Connect natural gas supply hose, (not included with kit), from supply source. Test for leaks.

STEP # 7: Once the conversion is completed and leak tested, reload the fireplace with the lava rocks and fire logs. Test
the unit while in place and verify it works properly. If flame from burner is not properly adjusted you can adjust air intake
by turning the protective screen cover and air intake sleeve on the fuel supply tube.
