binderisprovidedwithindividualinstructionmanualsandWarrantyRegistrationcards
fromthesuppliersofmajorequipmentitemsusedintheconstructionofyouryacht.
Sailingisamostenjoyableactivity,butdueregardmustbegiventothepowerofthe
sea.YourSabremustbehandledwithappropriatecautionandknowledgeofthehazardsof
sailing.ItalsomustbemaintainedinaccordancewiththeinstructionsprovidedbySabre
Yachtsanditssuppliers,andinaccordancewithAmericanBoatandYachtCouncil
standards.
Sabreyachtsareconstructedinamodernplantspecificallydesignedfortheproductionof

2:00RESPONSIBILITYOFYOURDEALER
AllSabreyachtsaresoldthroughAuthorizedSabreDealerswhohavebeenselectedto
representthecompanyonthebasisoftheirknowledgeofyachtsandtheirabilityto
provideyouwiththeserviceyoudeserve.Theareexpertsintheirprofessionwhorealize
thattheymustprovideyouwithahighlevelofserviceandattentionwhenyoupurchasea
Sabre.
YourSabreDealerisresponsibletothefollowingproceduresconnectedwiththepurchase
andcommissioningofyouryacht.
2:01Preparingadetailedspecificationlistforyouryacht,includingoptions,colors
andupholsteryselectionsattimeofordering.
2:02Inspectingtheyachtondeliveryforlossanddamageintransit,andthe
processingofallclaimsagainstthetransportcompany.Shouldyounoticeanylossor
damageyoumustnotifyyourdealerwithin30daysofarrival,asneitherthecarriernor
Sabrecanhonorclaimsbeyond30days.
2:03InspectingtheEquipmentboxesthatcomewiththeyachttoassurethatallitems
arereceivedinaccordancewiththeSabrepackinglist.
2:04CommissioningtheyachtinaccordancewiththeSabreCommissioningCheckList.
Thedealermustcheckandinitialeachitemonthelist,andreturnthelisttoSabre.
2:05Activatingandcheckingallmechanicalsystemsundertheconditionsofactual
usage.
2:06Steppingthesparsandinstallingallrigging.Tuningandadjustmentofthe
riggingmustbecarriedoutunderactualsailingconditions.Incorrectadjustmentscan
leadtomastfailure.
2:07Instructingyouontheuseofyouryachtandallitssystems.
2:08ProvidingallnecessaryassistanceandserviceunderthetermsoftheLimited
Warrantyonyouryacht,includingtheprocessingofallclaimswithSabreYachts.
3:00RESPONSIBILITYOFTHEOWNER
FormaximumsafetyandenjoymentofyourSabre,dueregardmustbegiventothehazardsof
sailing,andtopropermaintenanceprocedures.Thefollowingisapartiallistofitems
thataretheResponsibilityoftheOwnerforthesafeoperationofyouryacht.However,
thismustbeconsideredonlyapartiallistofthesafetyobligationsoftheownertobe
usedasaguideline.ConsultyourlocalU.S.CoastGuardandPowerSquadronofficesfor
additionalinformationonthesafeoperationofyouryacht.
3:01CompletetheWarrantyRegistrationformandreturnittoSabreYachtspromptly.

3:02AdviseSabreYachtsofanychangeofaddress,orachangeofownership,toassist
usinmaintaininganaccuratelistofownersforpossiblefuturemailingsregardingsafety

3:03ConfirmthatallitemsthataretheResponsibilityoftheDealer,outlinedin
Section2:00,arecompletedbyyourdealer.Ifyouryachtisdeliveredtoalocation
otherthantheofficialaddressofyourSabredealer,itbecomesyoursoleresponsibility
tosupervisethecommissioningofyouryacht,andtoensurethatallitemslistedasthe
ResponsibilityoftheDealerarecompletedbycompetentprofessionalmarineservice
personnel.
3:04Operateyouryachtinaccordancewithinstructionsprovidedinallsectionsof
thisowner'smanual,theindividualsupplierinstructionmanualsprovided,andall
applicableU.S.CoastGuardandotherregulations.
3:05Supervisethemaintenanceofyouryachtbycompetentmarineservicepersonnel,in
accordancewithallinstructionsprovidedinthisowner'smanual,theindividualsupplier

EachSabreyachtiscoveredbyaLimitedWarrantyasdetailedinthenexttwopages.Your
yachtwascarefullyinspectedatnumerousstagesofconstructionbyourskilledQuality
Engineeringexperts,butoccasionallysituationswilloccurthatrequireattentionunder
thislimitedwarranty.Beforeproceedingwithanywarrantyrelatedwork,youshould
carefullyreadtheenclosedcopyofyourwarrantyandtheguidelineslistedbelow.
4:01CompletetheenclosedWarrantyRegistrationcardwithin15daysofdeliveryof
youryachttovalidateyourwarranty.
4:02Shouldwarrantyrelatedworkberequiredonyouryacht,firstcontactyourSabre
dealer.Heisaknowledgeableprofessionalwhoisfamiliarwithyourboat,andknowsthe
mostefficientwaytocompletethenecessarywork.YourSabreDealerwillcontactSabre
Yachtsforauthorizationtoproceedwiththework,andfordetailedinstructionsto
correctthesituationinthemostexpeditiousandsatisfactorymanner.
4:03IfitisnotreasonablypossibletoreturnyouryachttoyourownSabreDealerfor
warrantywork,thenmakeeveryefforttotakeyouryachttoanotherauthorizedSabre
Dealerorserviceyard.Ifthisisnotpossible,contactSabreYachts'CustomerService
Departmenttorequestauthorizationtohavetheworkperformedatanotherlocation.
4:04AuthorizationmustbegrantedbySabreYachtsbeforeanyworkiscarriedoutfor
thiswarrantytobevalid.Thisisespeciallyimportantiftheworkistobecarriedout
byayardotherthanyourSabreDealer.
4:05Anyclaimsforpaymentunderthislimitedwarrantymustbefullydocumented,with
detailsofallmaterialsandlaborusedwithquantities,hours,andrates.SabreYachts
agreestomakefullpaymentforworkcoveredbythislimitedwarrantyonthebasisof
reasonablehoursfortheworkactuallyperformedandatprevailingratesintheareafor
materialsandlabor.
SABREYACHTSLIMITEDWARRANTYOctober21,1982
1.SABREYACHTSWARRANTSallyachtsandpartsmanufacturedbyittobefreeofdefects
duetosubstandardmaterialsandworkmanshipundernormaluseandserviceforaperiodof
twelve(12)monthsafterthedateofsaletotheoriginalconsumerpurchaser,ortwelve
(12)monthsafterthedateofcommissioningifprecedingthesaledate,exceptaslimited
herein.
2.TOVALIDATETHISWARRANTY,THEATTACHEDWARRANTYREGISTRATIONCARDmustbefully
completedandmailedtoSabreYachtswithinfifteen(15)daysofdeliverytotheoriginal
consumerpurchaser.FailuretoreturnthisWarrantyRegistrationCardmaypreventthe
notificationofdefectandrepairatmanufacturer'sexpense,inaccordancewiththe
FederalBoatSafetyActof1971.AdditionalWarrantyRegistrationCardsareavailableat
thedealer.
3.THISWARRANTYDOESNOTAPPLYTO:(a)engine,batteries,controls,instruments,pump
orotherequipmentoraccessoriescarryingtheirownindividualwarranties;(b)items
installedbythedealer;(c)gelcoatdamagesuchascrazingcausedbystress,impact,
weathering,orfromimpropermaintenance;(d)finishedorupholsterydamagedueto
weathering,impropermaintenance,oruseofharshsolventsorcleaners;(e)anyboat
subjecttomisuse,misapplication,negligence,oraccident;(f)alignmentoftheengine
andadjustmentofthestuffingboxwithareconsideredpartofconsumermaintenance;(g)
cracksinfinisheswhichmightappearathulltokeeljointwhicharenormalanddonot
indicatedefectiveworkmanshipormaterial;(h)leaksatstanchionsandchainplatesdueto
daytodayoperationoftheboatwhichareconsiderednormalandpartofconsumer
maintenance.
4.THISWARRANTYWILLBEVOIDIF:(a)theyachtorpartisalteredorrepairedby
personsunauthorizedbySabre;(b)ahydraulicbackstayadjusterputsabnormalstrainon
thehull;(c)riggingchangesaremadewithoutwrittenauthorizationbySabreYachts;(d)
afoldingpropellerisused(inwhichcasethewarrantywillbevoidonthedriveshaft,
strut,andrelateditems).

5.LIMITEDWARRANTYISMADEINLIEUOFALLOTHERREPRESENTATIONS,conditions,
warranties,obligations,orliabilitiesonthepartofthecompany.Thetotalliability
ofthecompanyforbreachhereofshallbelimitedtotheprovisionshereinandinnoway
shallthecompanybeliableforconsequentialdamagesarisingfromabreachhereof.Sabre
Yachtsmakesnootherexpressedwarrantiesandintendsnoimpliedwarranties.Ifany
impliedwarrantiesarefoundtoexist,suchimpliedwarrantieswillbesubjecttothetime
limitsnotedinthiswarranty.Somestatesdonotallowlimitationsonhowlongan
impliedwarrantylasts,sotheabovelimitationsmaynotapplytoyou.
6.IFADEFECTISDISCOVERED,thepurchasermustnotifyaAuthorizedSabreDealer,or
SabreYachtsCustomerServiceDepartmentatP.O.Box10,SouthCasco,Maine,04077.
7.INSPECTIONOFTHEDEFECTmustbecarriedoutbyanAuthorizedSabreDealer,oran
AuthorizedSabreServiceAgent,todeterminethefullextentofthedefectbeforerepair
orreplacementisauthorizedbySabreYachts.
8.AUTHORIZATIONMUSTBEGRANTEDBYSABREYACHTSbeforeanyworkiscarriedoutunder
thislimitedwarranty.Workcarriedoutpriortoreceiptofauthorizationwillnotbe
coveredunderthiswarranty.
9.SABREYACHTS,ORITSAUTHORIZEDDEALERORSERVICEAGENT,SHALLREPAIRORREPLACE,at
itsdiscretion,defectivecomponentsorpartswithinareasonabletime.SabreYachts'
responsibilityinrespecttoclaimsislimitedtomakingtherequiredrepairsor
replacementsandnoclaimofbreachofwarrantyshallbecauseforcancellationor
rescissionofthecontractofsaleforanyyacht.TheDealerorAuthorizedServiceYard
isnotanagentforSabreYachtsexceptforthepurposeofadministeringtheabove
warrantytotheextenthereinprovidedandSabreYachtsdoesnotauthorizetheDealeror
anyotherpersontoassumeliabilitytoexpenseincurredinthereplacementorrepairof
productsotherthanthoseexpresslyauthorizedherein.
10.ANYCLAIMFORREIMBURSEMENTunderthiswarrantymustbefullydocumented,providing
fulldetailsofallmaterialsandlaborusedwithhours,quantities,andrates.
11.SABREYACHTSASSUMESNORESPONSIBILITYforlossofuseoftheyacht,lossoftime,
inconvenienceorotherdamage,consequentialorotherwise,including,butnotlimitedto,
thecostoftransportingtheyachttoandfromanAuthorizedServiceYard,travel,
lodging,lossofrevenue,lossordamagetopersonalproperty.Somestatestonotallow
theexclusionoflimitationsofincidentalorconsequentialdamages,sotheselimitations
maynotapplytoyou.
12.THISWARRANTYGIVESYOUSPECIFICLEGALRIGHTS,andyoumayalsohaveotherrights
whichvaryfromstatetostate.
13.THECOMPANYRESERVESTHERIGHTTOMAKECHANGESindesign,materials,or
specificationsofitsproductswithoutobligationorliabilitytoincorporatesuchchanges
inproductsofpriormanufacture.
5:00THESABREDESIGNCONCEPTSABRE30
AllSabremodelsaredesignedashighperformancecruisingyachtstocombinethevirtues
ofspaciouscruisingaccommodationswithracewinningpotentialattheclubracelevel.
Ourfirstmodel,theSabre28,wasdesignedwiththeaidofanextensivemodeltanktest
programattheStevensInstitute.OursubsequentupdatesoftheSabre28design,andour
othermodels,haveevolvedfromthesuccessofthisdevelopmentprogramplusourextensive
racingandcruisingexperienceeachyearinvariousSabremodels.Sabrehasbuilta
numberofexperimentalboatstotryoutnewconceptsandideas,andthebestofthesehave
beenincorporatedinourstandardmodelsovertheyears.
Thehullshapesofourmodelshavebeendesignedwiththeoptimumcombinationoflowwave
andfrictionresistancewithmaximumloadcarryingability.Excellentstabilityis
achievedbyhullformandahighballastratio,ratherthanrelyingonalargecrew
sittingontherail.OurefficienthighliftkeelshapesarederivedfromNASAfoil
sectionsdevelopedfromaeronauticalresearch.Askegsectionisfairedintothehull

shapejustforwardoftheNASAfoilsectionruddertoimprovetheefficiencyoftherudder
andtoreducedrag.
Thesailplanandriggingofeachmodelhasbeendevelopedforthebestbalancebetween
lightairperformanceandheavyweatherstability.Thesailareahasbeenselectedto
allowafullmainand150%genoatobecarrieduptoabout16knotsapparentwindwithin
themaximum25%angleofheel.However,thiswillvarywithindividualboatsdependingon
thefullnessofthesails.
Shoaldraftversionsofeachmodelhavebeendesignedwithaminimumsacrificeof
performanceforshoalwaterareas.TheSabre28andSabre30haveanoptionalshoalkeel
configuration.TheSabre34andSabre38haveanoptionalkeel/centerboardthathasbeen
carefullyengineeredforefficiencyandreliability.
Thepropellershaftofeachmodelhasbeenoffsetslightlyfromthecenterlineasthe
resultofourextensivetestingofoncenterandoffcentershaftsonexperimentalSabres
wehavebuilt.Theoffsetlocationwasfoundtohavethebestcombinationofefficiency
withminimumrudderturbulencebasedonthesetests.
AllSabremodelsundergocontinualrefinement,withalargenumberofchangesand
refinementseachyeartokeepthemintheforefrontoftheirmodelcategory.

6:01HULLThehullisasingleunitfiberglassmolding,whichishandlaminatedusing
thefinestmarinegradepolyesterresin.Allfiberglassmaterialsareprecutusing
templatestomaintaindesignthicknessthroughoutthehull.Isothalicgelcoat,
approximately15mm.thickisfirstsprayedontothehighlypolishedhullmold,thenone
layerof1.0ouncefiberglassmatisplacedthroughoutthehulltoprovideastrongand
evenbackupforthegelcoatfinish.Thestructurallaminateschedulebeginswithone
layerof1.5ouncematandisfollowedbyalternatinglayersof1.5ouncematand24ounce
rovinginthefollowingmanner:8layersfromkeelsontotheturnofthebilge,6layers
fromtheturnofthebilgetojustabovethewaterlineand4layersfromjustabovethe
waterlinetothesheer.Balsacorepanels,1/4"thickarealsousedtostrengthenthe

Additionalreinforcingisprovidedinallkeystressareasbyoverlappingextralayersof
fiberglass.Forexample,thereare14layersatthestem,18layersatthekeelsonand18

6:02DECKTheSabre30Deckisasingleunit,handlaminated,fiberglassmoldingwith
nonskidsurfacesmoldedin.Onelayerof1.0ouncefiberglassmatisinitiallyplaced
throughoutthedecktoprovideastrongandevenbackupforthegelcoatfinish.Thisis
followedwithonelayerofof10ouncefiberglassclothandonelayerof1.0ouncemat.
Endgrainbalsacoring,3/8"thick,isthenappliedonallwalkingsurfacesofthedeck.
Additionalreinforcingisprovidedinkeystressareassuchasthemaststep,rudderpost
andstanchionbases,usingappropriatethicknessesofmarineplywood.Thedecklaminate
isthenfinishedwithonelayerof1.5ouncematandonelayerof10ouncecloth.
6:03LINERThelinerhasatexturedpatternmoldedintotheorthothalicgelcoat
layer,reinforcedwith2ouncematforstructuralstrength.Thelinerisheavily
reinforcedwithadditionallayersofmat,clothandwovenrovinginareasofstresssuch
asthemastsupportbeamandbulkheadmountingribs.
Thedeckandlinerarebondedtogetherusingfiberglassputtyfilledwithmicroballoons.
Thisfiberglassputtyprovidesstructuralcontinuityatallareasofstress,while
allowingaspaceofapproximately1/2"betweenthedeckandlinertothermalinsulation
andforrecessingdeskhardwarebolts.
6:04DECKTOHULLJOINTThedecktohulljointconsistsofafiberglassflangemolded
ontothehull,whichallowsstainlesssteelboltswithwashersandaircraftlocknutsto
fastentheteaktoerail,vinylrubrailextrusions,deckflangeandhullintooneintegral
unit.Toassureawatertightfit,fivelayersofbutyltapeareplacedonthehullflange
beforefasteningthedeckandvinylextrusioninplacewithbeddingcompound.In
addition,eachstainlesssteelboltisindividuallycaulkedasitisinstalled.Whenthe
boltsaretightened,thebutylbeddingcompoundiscompressedtofillallvoids.Aleak
atthisdecktohulljointcanusuallybeovercomebyadditionaltighteningofthe
stainlesssteellocknutstofurthercompressthebutylcompound.(RefertoI01)
6:05BULKHEADSAllbulkheadsandothermajorinteriorcomponentsarefastenedtothe
hullwithfiberglassbondingtapesforstructuralstrength.Thebulkheadsarealso
fastenedtotheheavilyreinforcedfiberglassribsintheheadlinerwithstainlesssteel
screws.Allvoidsbetweenthebulkheadandribsarefilledwithfiberglassputtybefore
thedecorativeteaktrimisinstalled.
6:06KEELTheonepieceleadkeeliscastinametalmoldtoclosetolerances.
Stainlesssteelboltsarecastintotheleadtoattachthekeeltothebottomofthe
hull.Theseboltsextendthroughtheheavilyreinforcedfiberglasskeelfilletmolded
intothehull,andaresecuredbystainlesssteelnutsandwashers.Thejointbetweenthe
keelandthehullisfilledwithfiberglassputtytoassureaprecisefitandthebolts

6:07RUDDERTheruddershaftisconstructedofastainlesssteelpipetowhicha
stainlesssteelframeworkiswelded.Thisframeworkisstructurallybondedtoonehalf
ofthefiberglassruddershell.Theotherhalfofthefiberglassruddershellisthen
bondedinplacetoobtaintheoptimumhydrofoilsectionformaximumsteeringcontrol.

urethanefoamtomaintainwatertightintegrityanddesignedrudderweight.Ahairline
crackatthejointbetweenthetworudderhalveshasnostructuralsignificance.Itcan
readilyberepairedbydiggingoutallloosematerialandfillingwithfiberglassputty.
Alayeroffiberglassclothshouldthenbeappliedovertheaffectedareaandsandedand
fairedintotheruddershape.
6:08MASTSTEPThemaststepoftheSabre30islocatedonthecabintop,witha
structuralsystemtotransferthisloadingtotheheavilyreinforcedhullsectionsatthe
keel.Thedeckisreinforcedwithaplywoodcoreandadditionallayersoffiberglassat
thislocation.Thestructuralbeamintheheadlinertransfersthemastloadingtothe
teaksupportpostandthemainbulkhead.Theteaksupportpostissupportbyaheavy

7:00COMMISSIONINGPROCEDURE
ThepropercommissioningofyourSabreistheresponsibilityofyourdealer.Thisisa
veryimportantstepinassuringthesatisfactoryoperationofyouryacht.The
constructionandinspectionofeachSabreiscompletedtothefullestextentpossibleat
thefactory.However,furthercommissioningandinspectionisnecessaryunderactual
sailingconditionsandusage.Also,thiscommissioningprocedureshouldbefollowedin
subsequentyearsatcommissioningtime.
7:01COMMISSIONINGCHECKLIST:TheattachedCommissioningCheckListprocedureshould

10:01STANDINGRIGGING:Standingriggingincludesallpartsconcernedwithsupportof
themast.Allcomponentsshouldbeexaminedeachtimebeforegoingsailingandgivena
morethoroughexaminationonamonthlybasis.Spreadersshouldbepositionedatthe
appropriateanglesandhavebootsortapedends.Bentordamagedspreadersmustbe
replaced.Turnbucklesshouldallcontaincotterpinstopandbottomtosecuretheir
positionandhavebootsorbetapedoverwithplastictapetopreventsnaggingofclothes
orsails.
Checkthoroughlythepointatwhichthewirecableenterstheswayedterminalends.A
smallsiliconebeadaroundthisjunctionwillpreventsaltfrompenetratingandwill
easilyidentifyanyslippageofthewireoutoftheterminal.
Acompleteinspectionofallriggingshouldbeconductedmonthlyandcablesorparts
shouldbereplacedifanyrustorbreaksarefound.
10:02RUNNINGRIGGING:Runningriggingincludesallthegearusedinhandlingand
trimmingsails.Themainandgenoahalyardsarestainlesssteelwiresplicedtorope.As
thewirecablepassesoversheavesatthemastheadandtheturningblocksatthefootof
themast,theyareexposedtocontinualheavyloadsandflexing.Thisconstantstrain
willwearonwireafteraperiodoftimesothehalyardsshouldbeexaminedonaregular
monthlybasisandsooneriftheboatissailedmorefrequently.Whensignsofwearor
stressarefoundthehalyardwillneedreplacing.
Thejunctionofthesplicebetweenthewireandropetendstobeanareaofweakness.The
integrityofthespliceshouldbecheckedfrequently.
Theropehalyardsarenotexposedtoassevereastrainaswirehalyard,yetshouldalso
beexaminedfrequently.Theendsshouldbeprotectedfromfraying.
10:03LIFELINES:Aswiththerigging,athoroughexaminationofthecableandcable
endsshouldbeconductedmonthly.Routineinspectionshouldbedoneeverytimetheboat
issailed.Lookforloosecables,frayedwire,orrustedfastenersandreplaceworn
parts.Turnbucklesshouldbefullyengagedontothethreadedrodandlocknutstightened
securely.Linetensionshouldbesnugwithoutbeingoverlytight.Smallcotterpinswill
insurethatturnbuckleswithremaintightandthewholeturnbuckleassemblyshouldbe
tapedwithplastictapetopreventsnaggingandchafe.
10:04STANCHIONPOST:Stanchionpostsshouldbesecurelyfastenedtothedeckas
describedinSection10:14.(RefertoI06)
10:05FIREEXTINGUISHERS:Eachfireextinguishershouldbecheckedmonthly.Agaugeon
eachextinguisherallowsyoutoeasilycheckthecharge.Eachpassengershouldbemade
awareofthebestwaytoexitthecabininthecaseofafireorotheremergency.
10:07THRUHULLS:Athaulingeachseasonallseacocksandthruhullsshouldbe
completelydrained,cleanedandgreasedasdescribedinSection25:00.Adjustthe
retainingnutandlocknuttotheappropriatetightness.
Beforelaunchingandeverytimebeforetheboatissailedeachseacockmustbecheckedfor
tightnessandtoseeiftheyarefunctioningproperly.
Keepallbutthecockpitdrainseacocksclosedwhenevertheboatisleftunattended.
Cockpitdrainseacocksshouldbeworkedandinspectedfrequentlyinspiteofbeing
continuallyleftopened.Theyprotecttheboatbymaintainingthehull'swatertight
integrityintheeventofdrainhosefailure.(RefertoI07)
10:08DECKHARDWARE:Considerablestrainisappliedtoalldeckhardwareduringthe
courseoftheseasonandeachfittingshouldthereforebetightenedatlaunching.Most
alldeckhardwareisboltedthroughthedeckandeitherreinforcementismoldedintothe
fiberglassdeckinthatarea,oraluminumbackupplatesareused,orboth.Frequently
checkthetightnessofthesenutsandboltsespeciallyiftheboatissailedhard.Nuts
areaccessiblebyremovingaccesspanelsthroughouttheboat,throughtheanchorwelland
cockpitlockers,aswellasalongtheedgeoftheheadlinerflangeatthesheer.
