Cremona Maestro “Special Edition” Violin
Modern recreations of rare masterpieces!
Fine instruments in every respect, all Special Edition Maestro
violins feature the very best and rarest woods, and are superbly
handcrafted by extraordinarily skilled luthiers whose goal is to
produce a “perfect” instrument every time.
At the top of Cremona’s Maestro Series is a re-creation of the
legendary “Hellier” Strad. The “Hellier” is the most famous of
Antonio Stradivari’s inlaid violins. Originally purchased by Sir
Samuel Hellier in the early 18th century directly from the
Master, the instrument eventually passed to Mr. H.E. Morriss, a
Shanghai newspaper publisher. Fortunately, Mr. Morriss took
the Hellier with him to England before World War II; after World
War II, Morriss saw all of his Shanghai possessions confiscated
by the revolutionary functionaries of Mao Zedong and put on
display as “plunder”. The original “Hellier” is presently in the
Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.
Limited availability: The supply of these extremely rare, very
old woods and inlay materials is extremely limited and
irreplaceable.

When we set out, more than 25 years ago, to meet students’, parents’
and teachers’ needs for affordable, high quality, violin family instru-
ments, our ultimate goal was to increase the number of people
who make music on bowed instruments.

Bows with octagonal sticks are generally easier to play because
they are stiffer, with better control and response, than equivalent
bows with round sticks. They’re rarely available to students. We
changed that. The J.LaSalle LB-15 Series Bows feature high quality
octagonal Brazilwood stick, ebony frog, quality fittings and gen-
uine unbleached white horsehair. Balance, response and overall
playability are excellent.

The Cremona Premier: Student Viola Series offers a professional
quality viola for any player including students as young as 8
years old. The easy playability and resonant tone of our violas
will inspire the student to greater heights of achievement. No
teacher or student would argue that introducing the viola early
enough to the right student is crucial to the development of the
proper playing technique, and to fully understand the instru-
ments place in the modern orchestral setting.
The Cremona Premier Series SVA-175 and SVA-150 violas both
feature select solid spruce tops and solid maple backs — both
meticulously hand-carved and graduated, befitting a profes-
sional quality instrument. The lovely translucent brown finish
highlights the beautiful woods and finely inlaid purfling. The
finest ebony trimmings are used in addition to a light-alloy
tail-piece which has four fine tuners built in. In contrast, SV-150
