videos.

Installing the SIM or USIM card and battery
Insert the SIM or USIM card provided by the mobile telephone service provider, and the
included battery.
Only microSIM cardswork with the device.
1Slide the latch and openthe flap.
2Insert the SIM or USIM card with the gold-coloured contactsfacing downwards.
Donot insert amemory card intothe SIM card slot.If amemory card happens tobe
lodged inthe SIM card slot, take the device toaSamsung Service Centre toremove
the memory card.

3Push the SIM or USIM card intothe slot until it locksinplace.

3Push the SIM or USIM card until it disengagesfrom the device, and the pull it out.

Charging the battery
Charge the battery before using it for the first time.Use the charger tocharge the battery.A
computer can be also used tocharge the device by connecting themviathe USB cable.
Use only Samsung-approved chargers, batteries, and cables. Unapproved chargersor
cablescan cause the battery toexplode or damage the device.

Whenthe battery power islow, the device emitsawarning tone and displaysalow
battery power message.
r
If the battery iscompletely discharged, the device cannot be turned on
immediately whenthe charger isconnected.Allow adepleted battery tocharge for
afewminutesbefore turning on the device.
Charging with the charger
Plug the small end of the charger intothe multipurpose jack of the device, and plug the large
end of the charger intoan electric socket.
Connecting the charger improperly may cause serious damage tothe device.Any
damage caused by misuse isnot covered by the warranty.

The device can be used while it ischarging, but it may take longer tofully charge
the battery.
r
If the device receivesan unstable power supply while charging, the touch screen
may not function. If thishappens, unplug the charger from the device.
r
While charging, the device may heat up.Thisisnormal and should not affect the
device’slifespan or performance.If the battery getshotter than usual, the charger
may stop charging.
r
If the device isnot charging properly, take the device and the charger toa
Samsung Service Centre.

After fully charging, disconnect the device from the charger.First unplug the charger from the
device, and thenunplug it from the electric socket.
Donot remove the battery before removing the charger.Thismay damage the
device.
Tosave energy, unplug the charger whennot inuse.The charger doesnot have a
power switch, so you must unplug the charger from the electric socket whennot in
use toavoid wasting power.The device should remainclose tothe electric socket
while charging.
Checking the battery charge status
Whenyou charge the battery while the device isoff, the following icons will show the current
battery charge status:

Your device providesoptions that help you save battery power.By customising these options
and deactivating featuresinthe background, you can use the device longer betweencharges:

Whenyou are not using the device, switch tosleep mode by pressing the Power button.
r
Close unnecessary applications with the task manager.
r
Deactivate the Bluetooth feature.
r
Deactivate the Wi-Fi feature.
r
Deactivate auto-syncing of applications.
r
Decrease the backlight time.
r
Decrease the brightness of the display.

Inserting a memory card
Your device acceptsmemory cardswith maximum capacitiesof XX GB.Depending on the
memory card manufacturer and type, some memory cardsmay not be compatible with your
device.
Some memory cardsmay not be fully compatible with the device.Using an
incompatible card may damage the device or the memory card, or corrupt the data
stored init.

The device supportsonly the FAT file systemfor memory cards. Wheninserting a
card formatted inadifferent file system, the device askstoreformat the memory
card.
r
Frequent writing and erasing of datashortens the lifespan of memory cards.
r
Wheninserting amemory card intothe device, the memory card’sfile directory
appearsinthe
extSdCard .

Removing the memory card
Before removing the memory card, first unmount it for safe removal.Onthe Home screen, tap

2Push the memory card until it disengagesfrom the device, and thenpull it out.
3Replace the flap and slide the latch.
Donot remove amemory card while the device istransferring or accessing
information. Thiscan result inloss of dataor damage tothe memory card or device.
Formatting the memory card
A memory card formatted on acomputer may not be compatible with the device.Format the
memory card on the device.

Before formatting the memory card, remember tomake backup copiesof all

Turning the device on and off
Whenturning on the device for the first time, follow the on-screeninstructions toset up your
device.
Press and hold the Power button for afewsecondstoturnthe device on and off.

Follow all posted warnings and directions from authorised personnel inareas
where the use of wireless devicesisrestricted, such as aeroplanesand hospitals.
r
Press and hold the Power button and tap Flight mode todisable the wireless
features.
Toturnoff the device, press and hold the Power button, and thentap
Power off .
Holding the device
Donot cover the antenna areawith your handsor other objects. Thismay cause connectivity
problems or drainthe battery.

Locking and unlocking the device
Whennot inuse, lock the device toprevent unwanted operation. Pressing the Power button
turns off the screenand putsthe device intolock mode.The device automatically getslocked
if it isnot used for aspecified period.
Tounlock the device, press the Power button whenthe touch screenisturned off, and then
tap anywhere on the screenand drag outside the large circle.
You can use motion tounlock the screen. Onthe Home screen, tap

Adjusting the volume
Press the Zoom button left or right toadjust the ringtone volume, or toadjust the sound

Using the touch screen
Use only fingerstouse the touch screen.

Donot allow the touch screentocome intocontact with other electrical devices.
Electrostatic dischargescan cause the touch screentomalfunction.

Donot allow the touch screentocontact water.The touch screenmay malfunction
inhumid conditions or whenexposed towater.

Toavoid scratching the touch screen, donot tap it with anything sharp.
r
Leaving the touch screenidle for extended periodsmay result inafterimages
(screenburn-in) or ghosting. Turnoff the touch screenwhenyou donot use the
device.
Finger gestures
Tapping
Toopenan application, toselect amenu item, topress an on-screenbutton, or toenter a
character using the on-screenkeyboard, tap it with afinger.
Dragging
Tomove an icon, thumbnail, or previewtoanewlocation, tap and hold it and drag it tothe
target position.
