Using the Buttons on the Front Panel
If your remote control no longer works or you have lost it, you can
use the controls on the front panel of the television to:
◆Switch on the television when it is in Standby mode and
select channels (▼CH ▲ )
◆Access the main menu ( MENU )
◆Adjust the volume (
- VOL + )
Buttons on the front panel have the same function as corresponding
buttons on the remote control.

You must insert or replace the batteries in the remote control when
you :
◆Purchase the television.
◆Find that the remote control is no longer operating
correctly.
1Remove the cover of the remote control by pressing the symbol
( ) and pulling the cover in the direction of the arrow.
2Insert batteries, taking care of the polarities:
◆+on the battery with +on the remote control
◆
- on the battery with - on the remote control
3Replace the cover by pushing it in the direction of the arrow.
Inserting the Batteries in the Remote Control
To view television channels correctly, a signal must be received by
the set from one of the following sources:
◆An outdoor aerial
◆A cable television network
Plug the aerial or cable network input cable to the 75Ωcoaxial socket
on the rear of the television.

The mains lead is attached to the rear of the television.
1Plug the mains lead into an appropriate socket.
➢The main voltage is indicated on the rear of the TV set and
the frequency is 50 or 60Hz.
2Press the POWER (ON/OFF) button on the front of the
television.
Result: The Standby indicator lights up on the front panel.
3Press the POWER button on the remote control to switch the
television on.
Result: The programme that you were watching last is re-
selected automatically.
4To switch your television off, press the POWER (ON/OFF)
button again on the front of the television.
Your television can be placed in Standby mode, in order to reduce:
◆Power consumption
◆Wear of the cathode ray tube
The Standby mode can be useful when you wish to interrupt
viewing temporarily (during a meal, for example).
The television is placed automatically in Standby mode when you
turn it on.
1Press the POWER button on the remote control.
Result: The screen is turned off and the Standby indicator on
the front of the television lights up.
2To switch the screen back on, simply press the POWER button
again on the remote control.
➣Do not leave your television in standby mode for long
periods of time (when you are away on holiday, for example).
In this case, you should switch it off completely.

The remote control is used mainly to:
Change channels and adjust the volume
Set up the television using the on-screen menu system
The following table presents the most frequently used buttons and
their functions.

Becoming Familiar with the Remote Control
Press the PRE-CH button. The TV will switch to the last
channel viewed.
To quickly switch between two channels that are far apart,
tune to one channel, then use the number button to select
second channel. Then, use the PRE-CH button to quickly
alternate between them.

Plug & Play Feature
When the television is initially powered ON, three basic customer
settings proceed automatically and subsequently: setting the
language, channel and clock.
1If the television is in Standby mode, press the POWER button
on the remote control.
Result: The message “Plug & Play” is displayed. It flickers for a
little while and then the “Language” menu is automatically
displayed.
2Press the ▲or ▼button to select required language. Press the
MENU button to enter the language, and then the message “Ant.
Input Check” is displayed.
➣If any language is not selected on the “Language” menu, the
“Language” menu will be displayed about 30 seconds later.
3Make sure that the antenna is connected to the TV. And then press
the or button to store the channels (refer to “Storing the
Channels Automatically” on page 12).
Result: The horizontal bar is displayed, and then channels are
stored in an order which reflects their positions in the
frequency range.
4When searching and storing is complete, the “Time” menu is
displayed.
5Press the or button to move to the hour or minute. Set the hour
or minute by pressing the ▲or ▼button (refer to “Setting and
Displaying the Current Time” on page 26).
6When you have finished, press the MENU button.
Result: The message “ENJOY YOUR WATCHING” is displayed,
and then the channel which has been stored will be
activated.
7If you want to reset this feature...
1Press the MENU button.
2Press the ▲or ▼button to select the “Function”, and then
press the or button.
3Select the “Plug & Play” by pressing the ▲or ▼button, and
then press the or button.
Result: The message “Plug & Play” is displayed.

Choosing Your Language
When you start using your television for the first time, you must
select the language which will be used for displaying menus and
indications.
1Press the MENU button.
2Press the ▲or ▼button to select the “Function”.
3Press the or button to select the “Language”.
4Select a particular language by pressing the ▲or ▼button
repeatedly.
5When you have finished, press the button or, press the
MENU button repeatedly to return to normal viewing.

Storing the Channels Automatically
You can scan the frequency ranges available on your television and
in your country and store all the channels found automatically.
The channels are stored in the order in which they appear in the
frequency bands. It is possible that the automatically allocated
numbers may not correspond to those by which you wish to
identify the channels. If this is the case, refer to “ Sorting the Stored
Channels” on page 17.
1Press the MENU button.
2Press the ▲or ▼button to select the “Channel”.
3Press the or button to select the “Auto Store”.
4Press the or button again.
Result: The horizontal bar is displayed, and then channels are
stored in an order which reflects their positions in the
frequency range. Finally, the search will end automatically.
5When searching and storing is complete, the “Sort” menu is
displayed.

Exit the channel store function Press the button or

Storing the Channels Automatically - Turbo Store
Using Turbo search you can store all the channels found in your
country in much less time compared to auto store.
The channels are stored in the order in which they appear in the
frequency bands. It is possible that the automatically allocated
numbers may not correspond to those by which you wish to
identify the channels. If this is the case, refer to “ Sorting the Stored
Channels” on page 17.
Perform the above mentioned steps to store channels using
Turbo Store. In the third step select Turbo store instead of
Auto store.

When storing channels manually, you can choose:
◆Whether or not to store each of the channels found.
◆The number by which you wish to identify each stored
channel.
1Press the MENU button.
2Press the ▲or ▼button to select the “Channel” and press the or
button.
3Press the ▲or ▼button to select the “Manual Store” and press the
or button.
Result: The “Manual Store” menu is displayed with the “Color
System” selected.
4Press the or button repeatedly until the color is of the best
quality.
Result: The “Color System” is changed (depending on the
model).
AUTO ↔ PAL ↔ SECAM ↔ NTSC4.43
➣NTSC4.43 is a “trick”playback mode used
by special VCR’s to play PAL-recorded
videos in NTSC mode.
5Press the ▲or ▼button to select the “Sound System” and press
the or button repeatedly until the sound is of the best quality.
Result: The “Sound System” is changed (depending on the
model).
B/G ↔ I ↔D/K
➣If sound does not work regularly after storing
channels, select the sound system which best
corresponds.
6To start the search, select the “Search” and then press the or
button.
Result: The tuner scans the frequency range until the first
channel or the channel that you selected is received on
your screen.
7To assign a programme number to the channel, select the
“Prog.No.”. Press the or button until you find the correct
number.
8To store the channel and associated programme number, select
the “Store” and press the or button.
Result: “OK” is displayed.
9Repeat Steps 6to 8for each channel to be stored.
10 When you have finished manual storage, press the button
or, press the MENU button repeatedly to return to normal viewing

You can exclude the channels of your choice from the channel scan
operation. When you scan through the stored channels, those you
have chosen to skip are not displayed.
All channels that you do not specifically choose to skip are
displayed during scanning.
1Press the MENU button.
2Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the “Channel” and press the or
button.
3Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the “Add/Erase” and press the
or button.
Result: The “Add/Erase” menu is displayed.

If however the signal is weak or distorted, you may have to fine-
tune the channel manually.

You can exchange the numbers of two channels, in order to:
◆Modify the numeric order in which the channels have
been automatically stored.
◆Give easily remembered numbers to the channels that
you watch most often.
1Press the MENU button.
2Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the “Channel” and press the or
button.
3Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the “Sort” and press the or
button.
Result: The “Sort” menu is displayed with the “From” selected.
4Press the or button until the channel number that you wish to
change is displayed.
Result: The selected channel’s picture is displayed.
5Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the “To”.
6Press the or button until the new number by which you wish to
identify the channel is displayed.
Result: The selected channel is exchanged with the one
previously stored to the chosen number.
Example: If you select “ P 1” for the “From” and “P 3” for the “To”:
◆Channel 1 becomes channel 3.
◆Channel 3 becomes channel 1.

pressing the “ P.SIZE ”(Picture size) button on the
remote control.

Adjusting the Picture Settings
Your television has several settings which allow you to control picture
quality:
◆Color Tone, Contrast, Brightness, Sharpness, Color,
Tint (NTSC only)
1Press the MENU button.
Result: The “Picture” menu is displayed.
2Press the or button.
3Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the “Adjust”, and then press the
or button.
Result: When select the “Mode” to “Custom”, the “Adjust” menu is
displayed.
4To adjust the... Press the...
◆Color Tone ◆or button.
Result: You select the required option
(Normal, Warm1, Warm2,
Cool1, Cool2).

5When you are satisfied with the settings, press the button or,
press the MENU button repeatedly to return to normal viewing.
➣The television has an “automatic degaussing”system that is
activated if magnetic interference is present. To degauss the
television screen, switch power off by pressing the POWER
(ON/OFF) button on the front panel (refer to “Automatic
Degaussing to Remove Color Patches”on page 34.
➣If you make any changes to the “Adjust”settings, the picture
standard is automatically switched to “Custom”.

You can select the type of special sound effect to be used when
watching a given broadcast. The following sound effects are
available in the order given:
◆Custom, Standard, Music, Movie, Speech.
1Press the MENU button.
2Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the “Sound” and press the or
button.
Result: The “Mode” menu is selected.
3Select to satisfy your preference by pressing the or button.
4When you have been finished, press the button or, press the
MENU button repeatedly to return to normal viewing.
➣You can select the required sound effect by simply pressing
the “S.MODE” (Sound Mode) button on the remote
control.
