Important Warranty Information Regarding Television
Format Viewing
Standard screen format televisions (4:3, the aspect ratio of the screen width to height) are
primarily designed to view standard format full-motion video. The images displayed on them
should primarily be in the standard 4:3 ratio format and constantly moving. Displaying stationary
graphics and images on screen, such as the dark top and bottom letterbox bars (wide screen
pictures), should be limited to no more than 15% of the total television viewing per week.
Wide screen format televisions (16:9, the aspect ratio of the screen width to height) are
primarily designed to view wide screen format full-motion video. The images displayed on them
should primarily be in the wide screen 16:9 ratio format, or expanded to fill the screen if your
model offers this feature, and constantly moving. Displaying stationary graphics and images on
screen, such as the dark side-bars on non-expanded standard format television video and
programming, should be limited to no more than 15% of the total television viewing per week.
Additionally, viewing other stationary images and text such as stock market reports, video
game displays, station logos, web sites or computer graphics and patterns, should be limited as
described above for all televisions. Displaying any stationary images that exceed the above
guidelines can cause uneven aging of picture tubes (CRTs) that leave subtle, but permanent
burned-in ghost images in the television picture. To avoid this, vary the programming and
images, and primarily display full screen moving images, not stationary patterns or dark bars.
On television models that offer picture sizing features, use these controls to view the different
formats as a full screen picture.
Be careful in the selection and duration of television formats used for viewing. Uneven CRT
aging as a result of format selection and use, as well as other burned-in images, is not covered by
your Samsung limited warranty.

◆Do not expose the television to extreme temperature conditions or to extreme humidity conditions.

You must insert or replace the batteries in the remote control when
you:
◆Purchase the television
◆Find that the remote control is no longer operating
correctly
1Remove the cover on the rear of the remote control by pressing
the symbol downwards and then pulling firmly to remove it.
2Insert two R03, UM4, “AAA” 1.5V or equivalent batteries taking
care to respect the polarities:
◆+ on the battery against + on the remote control
◆- on the battery against - on the remote control
3Replace the cover by aligning it with the base of the remote
control and pressing it back into place.
➢Do not mix battery types, i.e. alkaline and manganese.

To view television channels correctly, a signal must be received by
the set from one of the following sources:
◆An outdoor aerial
◆A cable television network
◆A satellite network (see page 12 for further details)
1In the first three cases, connect the aerial or network input cable to
the 75Ωcoaxial socket on the rear of the television.
2If you are using an indoor aerial, you may need to turn it when
tuning your television until you obtain a picture that is both sharp
and clear.

Connecting to an Aerial or Cable Television Network
You can connect a VCR to the television using a:
◆Coaxial cable
◆SCART cable
1Plug the aerial input cable into the appropriate socket on the VCR.
2Connect a coaxial cable to the:
◆VCR aerial output socket
◆Television aerial input socket
3To obtain better picture quality and, in addition, simplify the setting
up procedure of the VCR, you can connect a SCART cable
between:
◆The AV (SCART) socket on the VCR
and
◆A SCART socket on the rear of the television (see page 48 for
further details on the various connection possibilities)
4Follow the instructions supplied with your VCR to tune the VCR to
your television.

In order to watch television programmes broadcast via a satellite
network, you must connect a satellite receiver to the TV set.
➢If you wish to connect both a satellite receiver and a
VCR, you should connect the:
◆Receiver to the VCR
◆VCR to the television
(see pages 48~51 for further details)
Otherwise, connect the receiver directly to the television.
Using a SCART cable
Connect the receiver SCART cable to one of the SCART connectors
on the rear of the television (see page 48 for further details on the
various connection possibilities).
Using a coaxial cable
Connect a coaxial cable to the:
◆Receiver output socket.
◆Television aerial input socket.
In order to descramble a coded transmission signal, you must
connect a decoder to the TV set.
➢If you wish to connect both a decoder and a VCR, you
should connect the:
◆Decoder to the VCR
◆VCR to the television
(see pages 48~51 for further details)
Otherwise, connect the decoder directly to the television.
Using a SCART cable
Connect the receiver SCART cable to one of the SCART connectors
on the rear of the television (see page 48 for further details on the
various connection possibilities).

If you wish to listen a programme or recording using Dolby
Surround, you can connect additional speakers.
The four speaker terminals are located on the rear of the television:
◆Two for the left-hand speaker (marked L)
◆Two for the right-hand speaker (marked R)
◆Two for the centre speaker; Option
To improve the quality of the sound, connect the:
◆Red wire to the red terminal
◆Black wire to the black terminal
1To connect a wire to a terminal, push the tab back as far as it will
go.
2Insert the wire, up to the plastic sheathing, in the hole.
3Release the tab.
Result:The wire is pinched and held firmly in place.
4Repeat the operation for each wire.
5Connect the other end of the wires to the loudspeakers.

The mains lead is attached to the rear of your television.
☛If you have purchased this television in the United
Kingdom, refer to page 54 for further instructions on plug
wiring.
1Plug the mains lead into an appropriate socket.
➢The main voltage is indicated on the rear of the TV and the
frequency is 50 or 60Hz.
2Press the ON/OFF button ( I) on the front of the television.
Result:The Standby indicator lights up on the front panel.
3Press the POWER button ( ) on the remote control to switch the
television on.
Result:The programme that you were watching last is re-
selected automatically.
➢When you switch the television on for the very first time, you
will be asked to choose the language in which the menus
are to be displayed (see page 16).
4To switch your television off, press the ON/OFF button ( I) again.
Your television can be placed in Standby mode, in order to reduce:
◆Power consumption
◆Wear of the cathode ray tube
The Standby mode can be useful when you wish to interrupt
viewing temporarily (during a meal, for example).
1Press the POWER button ( ) on the remote control.
Result:The screen is turned off and a red Standby indicator
appears on the front of the television.
2To switch the television back on, simply press the POWER button
()again or a number button.
➢Do not leave your television in Standby mode for long
periods of time (when you are away on holiday,
for example). Turn your television off by pressing the
ON/OFF button ( I)on the front of the television.
It is best to unplug the set from the mains and aerial.

The remote control is used mainly to:
◆Change channels and adjust the volume
◆Set up the television using the on-screen menu system
The following table presents the most frequently used buttons and

When the television is initially powered ON, several basic customer
settings proceed automatically and subsequently. The following
settings are available.
1If the television is in Standby mode, press the POWER button ( )
on the remote control.
Result:The message Plug & Play is displayed. It flickers for
a little while, and then the Language menu is
automatically displayed.
2Select the appropriate language by moving the joystick up or
down.
3Press the joystick button ( ) to confirm your choice.
Result:The message Antenna input check is displayed.
4Make sure that the antenna is connected to the TV, and then
press the joystick button ( ).
Result:The Country (or Area) menu is displayed; (depending
on the model).
5Select your country (or area) by moving the joystick up or down.
6Press the joystick button ( ) to confirm your choice.
Result:The ATM (or Auto store) menu is displayed;
(depending on the model).
7To start the search, press the joystick button ( ).
Result:The search will end automatically. Channels are sorted
and stored in an order which reflects their position in
the frequency range, (with lowest first and highest last).
The programme originally selected is then displayed.
➢To stop the search before it has finished or return to normal
viewing, press the TV button ( ).
8When it has finished, the message Enjoy viewing your new TV
is displayed, and then the channel which has been stored will be
activated.

If the color appears spread out or “smeared” on the screen, the
convergence probably needs alignment. Be sure to use the remote
control for the convergence adjustments. (The Convergence
Adjustment can not be made by using the control buttons on the
front panel.)
1Press the MENU button.
Result:The main menu is displayed.
2Move the joystick up or down until the Function is selected.
Result:The options available in the Function group are
displayed.
3Move the joystick right.
4Move the joystick up or down until the Convergence option is
selected.
5Move the joystick right.
Result:The Convergence is displayed with the Red adjust
selected.
6Move the joystick right again.
Result:Acrosshair pattern will appear on the screen.
7Adjust convergence by using your remote control.
➢If a horizontal red line is visible, use Pand Pbuttons
to move the line so that it is superimposed on the horizontal
center-line (i.e., make a signal horizontal line that is as white
as possible).
➢If a vertical red line is visible, use - and + buttons to
move the line so that it is superimposed on the vertical
center-line (i.e., make a signal vertical line that is as white as
possible).
8For blue adjustment, do the same as the above.
9After the blue convergence is correctly adjusted, press the TV
button ( ) to return to normal viewing.
➣Since the center convergence adjustments can not be
done after completing the side convergence adjustments,
do the center convergence adjustments first.

When the picture size is distorted after moving the set, use the
Perfect Focus feature to adjust for the optimum picture size set in
the factory.
1Press the MENU button.
Result:The main menu is displayed.
2Move the joystick up or down until the Function is selected.
Result:The options available in the Function group are
displayed.
3Move the joystick right.
4Move the joystick up or down until the Convergence option is
selected.
5Move the joystick right.
Result:The Convergence is displayed.
6Move the joystick up or down until the Perfect focus option is
selected.
7Move the joystick right.
Result:Perform Perfect Focus in the following sequence:
green ➞red ➞blue.
After the cursor flickers for one second, the Perfect
focus feature ends.
8Press the TV button ( ) to return to normal viewing.
➣You can use the Perfect Focus feature by simply pressing
the “PERFECT FOCUS” button on the remote control.
➣◆If any error happens during Perfect Focus, then
perform Perfect Focus once again.
◆If you can not make adjustments after Perfect Focus,
then make manual adjustments. Still you can not
make adjustments, contact your Service Center.
◆If Perfect Focus operates by a wrong use of remote
control, then press the MENU button to exit.

You can scan for the frequency ranges available to you, (availability
depends on your country). Automatically allocated programme
numbers may not correspond to actual or desired programme
numbers. However you can sort numbers manually and clear any
channels you do not wish to watch (see pages 21~23 for further
details).

8Move the joystick up or down to select the ATM (or Auto store).
9Move the joystick right.
Result:The ATM (or Auto store) menu is displayed.
10 Press the joystick button ( ) to start the search.
Result:The search will end automatically. Channels are sorted
and stored in an order which reflects their position in
the frequency range, (with lowest first and highest last).
The programme originally selected is then displayed.
➢To stop the search before it has finished, press the TV
button ( ).
11 When the channels have been stored, you can:
◆Sort them in the order required (see page 21)
◆Clear a channel (see page 25)
◆Fine-tune channel reception if necessary (see page 23)
◆Assign a name to the stored channels (see page 24)
◆Activate/deactivate the Digital Noise Reduction feature (see
page 27)
