•Carefullyreadthisoperator’smanual.
•Familiariseyourselfwiththeoperationofthebrushcutteranditscorrect
use.
•Neverallowthemachinetobeusedbyanyonewhohasnotreadand
understoodtheinstructionmanual.Childrenshouldnotusethemachine.
•Ifthemachineisgiventootherpeople,makesureyougivethemthis
manual.
•Neverremoveanylabels,decalsorsafetycomponents.Replaceguards
beforeuse.
•Ensurethatthepetrol/oilfuelmixtureusedisattherecommendedratio
(seeSection4,TechnicalSpecifications).
•Makesurethatthenylonspool,itsfixingsandsafetyguardaresecureand
ingoodconditionbeforeeachuse.Replaceanymissingorexcessivelyworn
parts.

•Onlyusethemachineincleardaylightorwiththehelpofgoodartificial
lighting.
•Theuseofpoweredtoolsmaybesubjecttoregulations.Alwaysrespect
anylegalregulations,whichmayvaryfromonelocationtoanother.
•Donotusethemachinewhenthevegetationiswetorwhenitisraining
•Donotusethebrushcutterifyoufeeltired,unwell,haveconsumed
alcoholorhavetakenmedication.Amomentarylapseofattentioncanlead
toseriousinjury.
•Wearclosefitting,comfortableclotheswhichwillprotectyoufromflying
debris.Wearlongtrousersandsturdy,anti‐slipshoes/boots,aswellas
personalprotectionequipmentincludingrobustgloves,goggles,ahelmet
withvisorandearprotection.
•Theuserisresponsibleforthesafetyofallothersinthemachine’s
operatingarea.Keepotherpeople,childrenandanimalswellawayfrom
theworkarea.Ifyouareworkingaspartofagroup,keepagooddistance
fromotherworkersandbeawarethatdebriscanbethrownlongdistances
bythemachine.
•Alwayskeepbothhandsonthehandleswhenusingthebrushcutter.
•Keephandsandfeetwellawayfromthecuttingareaandallmovingparts.
•Whencutting,trytoavoidsolidobstaclessuchasfences,walls,postsand
trees
whichcannotbecutbythemachineandwhichmightdamagethe
cuttingsystem.
•Ifthemachinebecomessnaggedorjammed,stoptheengineimmediately.
•Alwaysworkinastable,balancedandsecureposition.Neverworkonvery
steepslopesandbeespeciallycarefulwhenchangingthedirectionofcut
onslopes.
•Becarefulnottooverloadthemachine.Alwaysusetheappropriate
machinefortheworktobecarriedout.
•Guidethemachineacrosstheworkatwalkingpace,movingforward
steadily.Neverrunanddonotwalkbackwardswhenusingthemachineto
avoidfallingover.
•Whenusingthemachine,keepthecuttingheadfacingdownwardsparallel
tothegroundandcoveredbythedeflectorguard.
•Neverleavethemachineunattendedwiththeenginerunning.
•Neverstarttheengineinanenclosedareaoranyotherareawhereharmful
carbonmonoxidegasesmayaccumulate.

•Toavoidtheriskofexplosion,neverusethebrushcutterinareaswhere
thereareinflammablematerialssuchasvolatileliquids,gasordust.
•Toavoidfirerisk,neverstartthemachineclosetofuelcontainersorareas
whererefuellinghastakenplace.
WARNING:Somepartsofthemachinecanbecomeveryhotandcancause
severeburns.Alwayswearglovesand,specifically,nevertouchtheengineor
exhaustpipeuntiltheyhavecooled.
2.4Afterusingthebrushcutter
•Beforemovingorcarryingoutanymaintenancetothemachine,ensure
thattheStart/StopswitchisintheSTOPpositionandthatthemachinehas
completelystopped.
•Alwaysfollowthemaintenanceinstructionsasprovideinthismanual.
•Aftereveryuse,checkthesafetydevices,fasteningsandfixingsandthe
conditionofthecuttingheadandallothercomponents.Maintainthe
machineproperlyandreplacewornordamagedpartsimmediately.
•Forsafetyreasons,yourbrushcuttershouldberepairedandservicedonly
byqualifiedpersonnel.Useoriginalreplacementpartsorthoseapproved
bySANLIUK.
•Keepthehedgetrimmercleanandalwaysstoreitinadryplace,outofthe
sunandoutofreachofchildrenandothers.
•Keepthisoperator’smanualinasafeplaceandconsultiteverytimeyou
usethemachine,especiallyifyouhavenotuseditforsometime.

3.UsageGuidelines
Makingmodificationstothebrushcutterand/orusingnon‐genuinepartsthat
havenotbeenauthorisedbySANLIUKcanrenderthemachinedangerousand
mayleadtoseriousinjuriesduringuse.SANLIUKcannotacceptanyliabilityfor
anytypeofmisuseorforanyusewhichdoesnotconformtothisinstruction
manualortocurrentregulations.
WARNING:Allcleaning,transportandmaintenanceoperationsmustbe
carriedoutwiththeengineturnedoffandtheStart/StopswitchintheSTOP
position.
3.1Preparingthebrushcutterforwork
WARNING:Donotusethehedgetrimmerwithouthavingfullyassembleditfirst
andmadesurethatallpartsareinplaceandcorrectlytightened!
3.11Assemblingthebrushcutter
Unpackandinspectallofthepartscarefullyandmakesurethatnopartsare
missing,bentordamaged.Checkthatallpartsfunctionproperly.
Assemblingthehandlebar
Attachthehandlebartothebrushcutter’smainshaft,positioningthehandles
accordinglytosuitarightorleft‐handeduser(seefigs.1and2).Insertandtighten
inthehandle’sfourfixingscrews(fig.3).
Theoperatorcontrolhandle(B,fig.4)shouldbe
positionedsothatthethrottletrigger(C)isfacingthe
directionofcutandcanbeappliedcomfortablyusing
theindexfinger.
Ifnecessary,thehandlecanbeturnedthrough180deg
byremovingthescrew(A,fig.4).

Installingthedeflectorguardisbestcarriedoutwiththemachinerestingonthe
engineandhandlebarstoprovideclearaccesstothedeflectorsupportasshown
infigure5.

notforgettingthetwometalreinforcementsasshowninfigure6.

Holdstillthespool’scentrecore(a,Fig7)bypassingthetoolprovidedthrough
thetwoholesasshowninfigure7.Withthehelpofthespannerprovided,loosen
thesecuringnut(b,Fig.7)inthedirectionofthearrow.
Central
core
Removeandputinasafeplacethesecuringnut,thebrakeringandthe
supportring.
NOTE:Securingnutb,Fig.7,hasaleft‐handedthread.Itisthereforeloosened
andremovedinaclockwisedirectionandreplacedandtightenedinananti‐
clockwisedirection.
Assemblethecomponentsshowninfigure8inthefollowingorder:
1)First,placetheblade(e)ontothecentralcore
2)Next,placethesupportring(d)ontotheblade(e)
3)Next,placethebrakering(c)ontothesupportring.
Finally,replaceandtightenthenutinananti‐clockwisedirection,whileholding
stillthecentralcoreusingthesamemethodasusedwhendismantlingthe
assembly(seeabove).

Unscrewthenutandremovethebrakeringandthesupportring,asdescribed
aboveandshowninfigure7.Keeptheminasafeplaceuntilneededtosecurethe
cutterblade.

3.12Fillingthebrushcutter’sfueltank
WARNING:Petrolishighlyinflammable.Handlewiththeutmostcaretoavoid
riskoffire,burnsorexplosion.
WARNING:Yourchainsaw’senginerunsonatwo‐strokemixtureofpetroland
oil.Alwaysusethecorrectpetrol/oilratio(seesection4)andneverstartthe
enginewithjustpetrolinthetank.Theresultislikelytocauseirreversibleand
costlydamagetotheengine.
•Thebrushcutter’senginerequiresamixtureofunleaded95gradepetrol
andamineralorsemi‐syntheticoildesignedforair‐cooledtwo‐stroke
engines(seeTechnicalSpecifications,section4).
•Useonly“fresh”unleaded95RONgradepetrol.Buyonlythequantityof
petrolthatyouarelikelytouseinamonth.Petrolshouldbestoredonlyin
containersdesignedspecificallyforthepurpose,approvedandlabelledas
such.
•Mixtherequiredquantityofoilwiththepetroltoobtaintherecommended
petrol/oilratio(seeTechnicalSpecifications,section4).
•Donotmixfuelandoildirectlyinthehedgetrimmer’sfueltank.Usea
suitablecontainerandobservecarefullythemixtureratioasspecifiedin
section4.
•Alwaysfillthefueltankoutdoors,neverinanenclosedspacenorclosetoa
flameorsourceofsparksorintenseheat.Neversmokewhilehandlingfuel.
•Neverunscrewthefueltank’scapwhentheengineisrunningorishot.
•Pourthefuelslowlyintothefueltankwiththehelpofaflexiblespoutor
funnel.

•Avoidspillingpetrolbynotoverfillingthefueltank.Leaveasmallspace
beneaththetank’srimtoallowforexpansion.Replacethetankcap
correctlyandhandtight.
•Ifanypetrolisspilled,donotstarttheengine.Removethemachinefrom
theareaofspillageandcarefullywipeitdry.Donotstartthemachineuntil
allpetrolvapourshavefullyevaporated.
•Replacethecaponthefuelcontainerandputinasafeplace,awayfrom
flames,sparksorheatsourcesandoutofthereachofchildren
•Ifyoususpectafuelleak,DONOTstarttheengine.Drainthetankfullyand
seekassistancefromanauthorisedSANLIUKdealerorserviceagent.
3.2Usingthebrushcutter
•Beforestartingwork,checkthatallguardsandsafetydevicesarepresent,
areingoodconditionandarefunctioningcorrectly.
•Checkalsothatthecuttingcomponentsandfixingsareingoodcondition
andsecure.Ifnecessary,replace,repairortightenfaultyorinsecure
componentsbeforestartingwork.
•UseonlyoriginalreplacementpartsorthoseapprovedbySANLIUK.
•Readcarefullyallofthesafetyproceduressetoutinthismanualbefore
usingthemachine.
3.21Startingthebrushcutter
•Thestartingmethodvariesdependingonwhethertheengineishotorcold.
Startingacoldengine
Placethebrushcutteronasound,levelsurfaceandholditfirmly,pressedtothe
ground.
Pushontheprimingpumpuntilthefuelbecomesvisible(approx.2to3presses).
MovetheStart/StopswitchtoitsOnposition,markedI(fig.11).
Holdingdownthesafetyleverwiththepalmofyourhand,depressthethrottle
triggerandthenpressdownonthelockingbutton(fig.11).Releasepressureon
thethrottletrigger.
Withthethrottletriggerhelddownbythelockingbutton,movethechokecontrol
intoitsclosed(Start)position,asshown

Pullquicklyandfirmlyonthestarterhandle,keepingholdofthehandleasit
returnstoitsrestposition.
Repeatuntiltheenginefires.
After15to30secondswiththeenginerunning,returnthechoketoitsopen(run)
position,asshown.
Holdingthesafetyleverdownwiththepalmofthehand,pressthethrottle
triggerwithyourindexfinger.Increasingthepressureonthethrottletriggerwill
raiseenginespeedandengagethecuttingmechanism.
Startingahotengine
NOTE:Youshouldnotneedtousethechokewhenstartingahotorrecently‐run
engine.
Tostartahotorrecentlyrunmachine,followthesameprocedureasforwhen
startingfromcold,butdonotusethechoke.
Iftheenginedoesnotstartafterfourpullsonthestarterhandle,continueasif
theenginewascold(byusingthechoke).
3.22Stoppingthebrushcutter
•Removeallpressurefromthethrottletrigger.
•MovetheStart/StopswitchintotheSTOPposition(markedO).
•Theengineandthemachinewillcometostopcompletelyafterabrief
moment.
3.23Extendingthecuttinglineinuse
Holdtherotatingcuttingheadparalleltothegroundand
lightlytapthecuttingheadontheground(see
illustration).Thenylonspoolwillautomaticallyreleasea
lengthofcuttingline.Ifthelineistoolong,abladeon
thedeflectorguardwillcutthelinetoitsoptimumlength.
Toavoidusingtoomuchline,donottapthecuttinghead
toomanytimesontheground.

3.24Adviceforcutting
•Cutthegrassbyswingingthecutterheadsteadilyfromlefttoright,moving
slowlyforwardkeepingthedeflectorguardparalleltotheground.Takinga
lightcutisalwayspreferabletoaheavycutasitallowsthegrasstobe
thrownwellclearofthespinningnylonspool,helpingpreventitfrom
becomingchokedwithgrass.
•Tocuttallgrass,workprogressivelyfromthetopdowntothebaseofthe
grass.Nevercutdampgrassanddonotoverloadthemachine.
•Tomaximisethelifeofthenylonline,donotallowtherotatinglineto
continuouslyimpacthardobjectssuchasstones,wallsandposts.
•Beofkick‐backwhenthemachine’smovingpartshitasolidobject.
NOTE:Regularlyremovingcutgrassthathasaccumulatedbetweenthenylon
spoolandtheinsideofthedeflectorguardwillminimiseriskofvibration.
3.25Changingthenylonspool
•Alwaysswitchofftheengineandwaitforthemachinetocometoa
completestopbeforeadjusting,maintainingorservicingthebrushcutter.
•Locatethetwoclipsholdinginplacethelidofthenylonspoolhousing.
Usingyourthumbandindexfinger,squeezeandremovebothclipsandlift
offthelid(fig.13and14).
•Liftoutthenylonspool(fig.15).
•Installafullnylonspoolbyreversingtheabovesteps,notforgettingto
insertthetwolinesthroughthesmallmetal‐ringedopeningsoneitherside
ofthehousing.Replaceandensurethatthelidisproperlyclosedand
fastened.

Alwaysswitchofftheengineandallowthemachinetocometoacomplete
stopbeforeattemptinganymaintenanceoradjustmentofthebrushcutter.
3.31Cleaningthebrushcutter
•Cleaningthemachineaftereveryusewillhelpensurethatitperformswith
maximumefficiencyandhasalongandeffectiveworkinglife.
•Cleanthesurfaceofthemachinewithasoftdampcloth.Nevercleanthe
plasticwithachemicalproductthatmightdamageit.
WARNING:Neverimmersethebrushcutterinwaterorinotherliquidstoclean
it.Nevercleanthetoolwithastrongwaterjetorahigh‐pressurecleaner.
3.32Storingandtransportingthebrushcutter
•Ensurethatthemachineissafelyoutofthereachofchildren.
•Storethemachineinacool,dryplace,awayfromdirectsunlight.Covering
itwithatarpaulinorplasticsheetisnotrecommendedasthiscouldcause
damagingcondensation.
•Forlong‐termstorage,emptythefueltankintoasuitablecontainerand
thenruntheengineuntilitstopsofitsownaccord,havingusedupall
remainingfuel.
3.33Transportingandmaintainingthebrushcutter
Transportthebrushcutteronlywhenithascometoacompletestopwiththe
engineswitchedoff.
Lubricatingthecuttinghead’sangleadjuster
Lubricatetheangleadjusterevery25hoursor
onceayear.Unscrewthetwocapscrews(fig.
16),andapplygreasethroughthetwoexposed
holes.

Cleaningtheairfilter
Removethetopoftheairfilterhousing(item12onmachinecomponentdiagram).
Carefullyremovethefoamfilterelementandwashinwarmwatermixedwitha
fewdropsofwashingupliquiduntiltheelementisperfectlycleanandalltraces
ofgreaseanddirthavedisappeared.
WARNING:Nevercleanthefilterinpetrol,whitespiritoranyothersolvent,as
theseproductscancausedeteriorationtothefilterfoam.Replacethefilter
elementifitisdamagedorbecomesverydirty.
Rinsethefoamfilterincleanwaterandsqueezeitgentlytoremoveexcesswater.
Leavetheelementintheopenairuntilitiscompletelydry.
WARNING:Neverwringthefoamfiltertoexpelwater.Suchactionmaydamage
thefilter.
Oncedry,coattheexteriorofthefilterwithafilmofcleanengineoilusinga
brush.
Cleantheinsideofthefilterboxwithacleanclothandplacethefoamfilter
elementcarefullybackinitshousing,replacingandsecuringthelidproperly.
Sparkplugmaintenance
Pulloffthesparkplugcapthenunscrewandremovethesparkplug.
Removeanycarbondepositsfromthesparkplugelectrodeswithabronzewire
brush.
Checktheelectrodegapusingafeelergaugeandresetto0.5mmifnecessary.
Ifthesparkplugiswornordamaged,replacewithanewsparkplugsuitablefor
theengineonyourbrushcutter.YourlocalSANLIwillbeabletoadviseonthe
correctpart.
Replacethesparkplug,screwingitinbyhanduntilitmakesfirmcontactwiththe
cylinderhead.Usingthesocketwrench,tightenthesparkplughalf‐a‐turnmore.
NOTE:Overtighteningthesparkplugcancauseirreversibledamagetothe
threads.
Replacethecapontopofthesparkplugandpressfirmlyintoplace.

noticeorobligation.Asaresult,thetextandimagesusedinthisinstruction
