06 1. Preparation.
1.1 Delivery
On receiving the product, please check it for completeness, lack of faults
and any transport damage. Inspect the goods in the presence of your
forwarder. Should transport damage have occurred, please arrange for
an inventory (determination of the faults) to be made in the presence of
the forwarder. Please send a complaint in writing to the specialist dealer
responsible (see Point 10.5).
1.2 Safety measures prior to use
The correct use of the product requires a detailed and careful instruction
of the user or the accompanying person. We ask you to read through the
Instructions for use carefully prior to initial commissioning of the product,
and to observe them. It is possible that product parts that get in contact
with the skin may heat up in the sun. Depending on the duration and in-
tensity of solar radiation, the surfaces of individual parts can heat up to
over 41°C and thus lead to slight burns in the event of direct skin contact.
Therefore cover these areas or protect the device from direct sunlight. The
car seat itself will not be damaged by high or low temperatures or sunlight.
1.3 Safe disposal
In order to preserve and protect the environment, to prevent environmental
pollution and to improve the recycling of raw materials, please note the
disposal instructions in points 1.3.1 and 1.3.2.
1.3.1 Packaging
The packaging of the product should be kept for any future transport that
might be required. Should you have to return the product for repairs or in
case of a guarantee claim, please if possible use the original box so that
the product is optimally packaged. Otherwise, separate the packaging
materials for recycling according to their classification.
Do not leave packaging materials unattended, as they are a possible source of
danger.
1.3.2 Product
At the end of the product life cycle, recycle the raw materials used in the
product according to their nature (see material information under point
2.1).

07 1. Preparation.
2.1 Material information
The seat unit and the individual elements are made of aluminium / steel
which are non-corroding. All body supports are padded (PU foam) and
covered. The covers are made of laminated knitted fabric and consist of
100% polyester.
2.2 Transport
To transport the car seat, adjust all settings to the most compact dimen-
sions (back height to lowest setting, push in foot support etc.). Never use
the 5-point strap or the 4-point strap to carry the car safety seat. This
could damage the strap and the locking mechanism. Carry the car seat
by using both hands on the outside to lift it up.
2.3 Application areas, use according to the intended purpose
The carrot 3. seat and restraining system is a medical product of risk class 1
and is available in three sizes. It is designed for conveyance of children and
teenagers with disabilities. The carrot 3. is approved according to ECE R44-
04 for classes II and III, i.e. 15kg to 36kg. However, it has been successfully
tested with a 10kg dummy and with a 49kg dummy.
The carrot 3 XL. seat is an extension of the standard carrot 3. seat for people
who have grown so large that they no longer fit into the normal carrot 3. or
other car seats. It is recommended to use the carrot 3 XL. for users between
approx. 40 and 75 kg or 140 to 180cm tall. It has been successfully tested
with a 75 kg dummy in a crash test.
Legislation in Germany and in many other countries also allows the trans-
port of children weighing less than 15 kg as well as young people weighing
more than 36 kg up to approx. 50kg and in the carrot 3 XL. up to 75 kg.
However, a doctor's prescription must be obtained for this. (For Germany,
see the medical certificate (see Point 11) as well as the "Third Ordinance on
Exemptions from Road Trac Regulations of 5 June 1990" of the German
Federal Ministry of Transport).

1.4 Where to store the instructions for use
After reading the instructions for use, keep them carefully in the pocket lo-
cated on the back of the carrot 3. Should you lose the instructions, you can
always download an updated version at www.schuchmann.co.uk.

accessories is done by the specialist dealer (see Point 10.5). When using
the swivelling car seat and restraint system, the actual restraint function is
executed entirely by the 3-point strap in the vehicle. The straps built in the
seat serve only to support and position the user.
carrot 3. is also approved for use on aircraft. This does apply to the carrot 3 XL.
seat variant. (see Point 3.3).
2.3.1 Indication
carrot 3. is suitable for users with:
• Paralysis or substantial reduction in the torso musculature, so that sitting
erect without comprehensive support is not possible or leads to
incorrect posture, deformation and pain.
• Malformation and/or deformation of the body which makes sitting
impossible or substantially more dicult without specific support and
fixation.
• Deformative diseases to guide body growth in children and teenagers.
There may be a medical necessity for the prescription of seat pans
in case of:
• Infantile cerebral palsy
• Hypotonia syndrome of unclear genesis
• Myelodysplasia
• Muscular dystrophy
• Various disease patterns with scoliotic deformations of the spine
• A wide range of syndromes
Such systems can be used if the loss of torso and head stability must
be compensated for, and therefore a stable seating position must be
achieved for a disabled child within a car, and if a standard commercial-
ly-available seat pan is no longer sucient. This car seat is characterised
by its shell-shaped design and the available pelotte pad system. It pro-
vides additional support for safe sitting, stabilisation of head control and a
stable seat in the pelvic area, as well as support/control in the foot area.
The carrot 3. can therefore be very well adapted to the individual needs of
disabled children.
2.3.2 Contraindications
There are no known specific risks of use / contraindications. In general, the
indications for sitting should be approved by a doctor or orthopaedist. It
should therefore be clarified prior to procurement whether contraindica-
tions could exist for the patient. In general, any type of pain represents a
contraindication.

09 2. Product description.
2.4 Use not in accordance with the intended purpose / warning guide-
lines
Attention: Serious and even fatal injuries can occur if the following instructions
are not observed!
General
• Do not leave the child unattended in carrot 3. or alone in the car.
• Users with visual, reading or mental impairments must have someone
read these Instructions for use aloud so that they understand how to
use the product.
• Please ensure that none of the user's extremities are in the respective
area when making adjustments of any kind to minimise the risk of injury.
• If you have any questions about use or repair work, please contact your
specialist dealer (see Point 10.5).
• Due to further development of the car seat, the instructions for use
may change.
Positioning
• Only position the seat or patient in the direction of travel. We
recommend the position behind the passenger.
• We recommend to use this seat only for users who can sit upright
(i.e. not for children under 6 months).
• Do not use the carrot 3. on the passenger seat if it obstructs you when
operating the gearstick or the handbrake or if the child can reach
control buttons there unintentionally.
• When installing, please ensure that no part of the car seat can be
trapped under a moving seat or in the door during normal use of the
vehicle. A poorly fitted car seat can lead to a high risk of death or injury.
Vehicle suitability
• The carrot 3. is only suitable for use in vehicles that are equipped with
3-point safety belts approved according to the standards of ECE
regulation no. 16 or other comparable standards.
Suitability of the vehicle seat
• The following vehicle seats are not suitable for use with the carrot 3. or
carrot 3 XL.:
- car seats without a safety belt,
- car seats that are fastened sideways or backwards,
- car seats that are less than 40cm deep,
- car seats with a pronounced bulge on the seat that can lead to
unstable fastening,
- car seats with a two-point belt.

10 2. Product description.
Reuse after an accident
• The seat may no longer be used after an accident, and it is essential
that it is replaced. Even if the seat appears undamaged on the exterior,
your child may not be optimally protected in case of a second accident.
Second Hand Use
• Re-use of the car safety seat following use by the patient named in the
prescription is not permitted according to the manufacturer's instruc-
tions. Schuchmann advises against the purchase or sale of used car
seats as they have incurred damage that may not be visable which
could significantly reduce the safety of the product. Due to this we are
unable to oer support for car seats which have been purchased sec-
ond hand.
Cover of the carrot 3.
• Only use the cover supplied, as it comprises an important part of the
restraint performance.
Vehicle with airbags
• If you are using a vehicle with airbags, take into account the owner's
manual of your vehicle regarding the installation of a car seat and
precautionary measures.
Notices on use of the carrot 3. in the vehicle
• Make sure that the car safety seat is securely attached and mounted
on the seat of the motor vehicle. The black safety straps must be at-
tached to the backrest of the car seat and the 5-point strap or 4-point
strap must be well adjusted each time the child uses the seat. As an
accessory, you can either use the ISO-Base to connect the car seat to
the ISOFIX device of the car or you can choose the ISO-Turn turntable,
which is also clicked into the ISOFIX mount of the car and also has a
turning function.
• Make sure that the black fastening straps of the car seat are tightly
fastened to the car seat.
• Do not leave the user in the seat without using the seat strap.
• Always transport the child with the 5-point strap or the 4-point strap of
the car seat and the 3-point strap of the vehicle fastened.
• The straps of the car seat should be tight against your child. Particularly
thick clothing such as jackets reduce safety and therefore should not be
worn in the seat. The straps must not form loops or be twisted. In addi-
tion, they must not press firmly into the child's skin or place the body in
an unnatural position.
• Make sure that the strap is not twisted and that the safety strap
engages properly.
• The strap buckles are made so that they cannot simply be released.
Nevertheless, be careful that they are not operated improperly by any-
one.

11 2. Product description.
Car safety belt (3-point strap on the vehicle)
• The swivelling car seat and restraint system may only be used in
connection with a vehicle's own 3-point seat strap! Correct
installation can significantly increase a child's chances of survival
in a road accident.
• The primary protection for the occupants of a vehicle in the event of a
collision is the vehicle's 3-point strap. Without this, the car safety seat
will not be able to protect the child if the vehicle is involved in a seri-
ous accident. Nevertheless, when installed correctly, it can significantly
increase a child's chances of survival in the event of a road accident.
Therefore, make sure that all users understand how to use the car seat
correctly in a vehicle.
• Only use the strap guide tabs to secure the car safety belt. If a vehicle
safety belt is too short, use another seat.
When the carrot 3. should not be used
• Do not use the carrot 3. if you cannot fix it correctly as described in the
instructions for use.
• Do not use the carrot 3. if it is not firmly attached.
What else needs to be considered when using the carrot 3.
• Make sure that the child does not stand up in the seat or stand upright
in the product. Do not use the product as a child's toy or as a chair for
adults.
• In the event of an emergency - such as a collision - do not panic. Press
the button of the strap buckle and remove the plug-in parts from the
strap buckle. Now take the child out of the seat.
• Do not use any straps or seat shapes other than those described in the
instructions for use.
• Increase the carrot 3. only as indicated in the instructions for use, other-
wise it will not protect the child adequately in a crash situation.
• Regular checks are necessary if you are driving on bad roads and
before and after a trip.
• Secure the carrot 3. with your vehicle's safety belt even when it is not in
use. In the event of a road accident, an unsecured car safety seat can
injure the occupants of the vehicle.
• For your own safety, we recommend that you do not store the carrot 3.
in the passenger compartment of the vehicle, but in the boot when it is
not in use. Make sure that no heavy objects are placed on the carrot. 3.
• Park your car in a safe place when making adjustments to the seat. This
includes an adjustment of the backrest of the vehicle seat. Handling or
adjusting the carrot 3. while driving represents a considerable, possibly
even fatal risk for you and your child.
• The car safety seat must not be used at home on the floor or in other
inappropriate places.

12 2. Product description.
• Do not leave the product near heated materials.
• Only the accompanying person should operate the product.
• Follow the instructions attached to the car seat as well as the
instructions in this user manual and do not change anything in the
construction of the car seat. Any modification of the product not ex-
pressly described in these instructions for use is your responsibility. We
are not responsible for any damage that occurs as a result of incorrect
conversion. So, for example, never try to remove the 5-point strap and
the black fastening straps of the carrot 3. Never remove the strap buckle
or the buckle tongues of the 5-point strap or the black fastening straps.
If they are not reattached correctly, the carrot 3. may not function safely.
• Please clean the car seat as required as described in Point 7.1. Keep in
mind that blood, urine, saliva or other secretions must be removed for
the safety of your child.

13
Inclination of the vehicle seat backrest
• The following applies to car seats with adjustable back rest: Always
ensure that the adjustment mechanism is securely engaged. In the
event of a sudden stop, a non-engaged backrest could mean that the
car safety seat does not provide the child with the necessary safety.
• Before you tilt the backrest of the vehicle seat to which the carrot 3. is
attached, you must loosen and slacken the straps of the vehicle seat
(Fig.1). Tighten the straps again after leaning back (Fig. 2).
Tilting the backrest of the vehicle seat to which the carrot 3. is attached without
loosening the straps can lead to a risk of suffocation.
The carrot 3. was tested at an inclination of 30° from the vertical and should not
be transported in a moving vehicle if this angle of inclination is exceeded.

Settings and adjustments to the product or accessories may only be made
by people who have been given the necessary instructions by a medical
product advisor. Please ensure that none of the user's extremities are in the
respective area when making adjustments of any kind to minimise the risk
of injury. All adjustments can be made with standard tools (e.g. Allen key,
screwdriver or spanner).
3.1 Installation on the passenger seat
Installation of fastening straps:
The fastening straps for mounting the
car seat can be found in the upper or
lower part of the car seat
1. Attach the headrest of the carrot 3.
to the headrest of the car by plac-
ing the upper of the black fasten-
ing straps around the car headrest.
Similarly, guide the lower fastening
straps around the lower part of the
car seat backrest.
2. Close the strap buckles and push
the car safety seat firmly onto the
car seat. Pull both adjustment
straps at the same time. Make sure
that as a result the carrot 3. is firmly
connected to the backrest of the
car, as shown in picture Aand B.
3. Make sure that all connections are
now secure and that the carrot 3. is
positioned firmly in the car.
Important: If you install the carrot 3. on
the front passenger seat, push the seat
as far back as possible to avoid possible
injury from the airbag.

18 3. Installation.

19 3. Installation.
3.2 Installation on the back seat
When you attach the carrot 3. to a back seat,
you may find that the attachment straps are
too short to be placed horizontally around
the seat. In this case, the fastening straps
can be connected vertically, as shown in the
adjacent picture. It is mandatory that the
3-point strap of the car is always be used.
If you have diculties installing the carrot 3.
safely, please contact your specialist dealer
(see point 10.5) from whom you purchased
the seat: They will advise you.
3.3 Installation in aircraft
Most airlines allow the use of a child seat if it
is approved for use on aircraft and fits prop-
erly in the aircraft.
Contact your airline in advance regarding
the regulations for the safe transport of your
child and the fit (the seat width is 46cm).
• The FAA recommends that a child weighing
9kg up to 18kg use a certified strap child
seat when travelling in an aircraft.
• Install your child seat in a window seat to
avoid blocking the aisle.
• If the aircraft lap belt is too short, ask a
flight attendant for a belt extension.
• This child safety device is FAA certified
Note: You can tell whether your carrot 3. is ap-
proved for use in an aircraft by the patch above. This restraint system
is approved for use in
vehicles and aircraft.

20 3. Installation.
3.3.1 Securing the carrot 3.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
recommends that you transport your child
for air travel in an appropriate safe child
seat, suitable for your child's weight and size.
Turbulence can occur with little or no warn-
ing. When turbulence occurs, the safest
place for your child is in a properly installed
child seat, not on an adult's lap or in the air-
craft seat with its seat strap. A child seat is
the safest way to take your child to your des-
tination.
Recommendation by the FAA regarding the
child's weight: *
• for a weight of 9 to 18 kg (20 to 40 lbs), use
of a forward-facing child seat,
• for more than 18 kg, the aircraft safety belt
is used.
* Please note that these FAA recommenda-
tions may dier from the recommendations
for the use of your child seat in a motor ve-
hicle.
