WARNINGS
Please Read Carefully and Fully Understand
This manual is intended for use by personnel who have been trained in the use and care of
compressed-air breathing apparatus, and MUST NOT be used as a self-teaching guide by
untrained users. Failure to understand or adhere to the RAS ASBESTOS user instructions
may result in injury or death.
Scott Safety has taken great care to ensure that the information in this manual is accurate,
complete and clear. However, Training and Technical Support Services will be pleased to
clarify any points in the manual and answer questions on Scott Safety breathing apparatus.
The following warnings are in accordance with certifying authority requirements and
apply to the use of breathing apparatus in general:
Breathing apparatus users must be fully trained in the use and care of self-
contained, compressed-air breathing apparatus.
Ensure that the selection of the apparatus type is sufficient for the tasks being
undertaken and the hazards likely to be encountered. Please refer to National
Regulations for guidance.
Adequate protection may not be provided in certain highly hazardous
atmospheres.
The apparatus must be tested and serviced in accordance with Section 8 -
Scheduled Maintenance and the notes in Section 1 under Personnel Training
and Servicing.
The quality of air used to supply and charge breathing apparatus must meet
the requirements of EN 12021:1999. See Section 1 for details.
Ensure that a good seal can be obtained between the face and facemask. The
wearing of beards, side-burns or spectacles may adversely affect the sealing
of a facemask to the wearer's face.
The apparatus is not designed for use underwater.
This apparatus does not protect against carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide or
other toxic gases and vapours.
Where RAS ASBESTOS has been contaminated by asbestos that may pose a
threat to life or health, local stautes, health and safety guidance, site operating
procedures or specialist advice for: doffing, de-contamination, cleaning or
disposal of RAS ASBESTOS or its filters must be obtained and adhered to.
RAS ASBESTOS is not approved for use in flammable or explosive
atmospheres.

1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 APPROVALS
RAS ASBESTOS apparatus is ‘CE’ marked
in accordance with EEC Directive
EC/686/1986.
It is approved to European Standard EN
14593-1:2005 (Respiratory Protective
Devices - Compressed air line breathing
apparatus with demand valve).
Facemasks are approved to EN136:1998.
Scott Safety is quality assurance approved
to: ISO 9001.

1.2 LIMITATIONS OF USE
RAS ASBESTOS must only to be used with
Scott Safety breathing apparatus
Facemasks.
Only to be used by competent personnel
trained by Scott Safety Instructors, or their
approved agents.
DO NOT use with spectacle side arms,
beards (or other facial hair), or clothing that
may prevent the facemask forming a good
seal with the face.
1.3 BREATHABLE AIR
Air used to supply or charge breathing air
may be natural or synthetic and must
comply with EN 12021:1999.
1.4 COMPRESSED AIR
AIRLINE SUPPLIES
Air for use with compressed air airlines
must conform to EN12021:1999.
Airline pressure must be between 5.0 - 9.0
bar (70 - 130psi). Airflow supply capacity
for a single airline is given in Table 1.
Generally - each additional wearer requires
an extra 150 litres/minute, each additional
pair of wearers requires 300 L/min for one
wearer and 450 L/min for two wearers (see
Table 1). All measurements must be taken
at the wearer end of the airline. An airline
flow tester (Article Number 1035978) is
available from Scott Safety.
Example: for 8 users (4 pairs) the
recommended flow is 4 x (300 + 150) =
1800 litres/minute.

1.5 PERSONNEL TRAINING
Personnel who use breathing apparatus
must be fully trained in accordance with
Local National Regulations and these
instructions.
These instructions cannot replace an
accredited training course run by fully
qualified instructors in the proper and safe
use of Scott Safety breathing apparatus.

1.6 SERVICING
RAS ASBESTOS must be serviced at
scheduled intervals by personnel who have
completed a formal training course and hold
a current certificate for the servicing and
repair of Scott Safety breathing apparatus.
Details of the servicing schedule are
contained in the Scott Safety RAS
ASBESTOS Service Manual, copies of
which can only be obtained by registered
holders of a current certificate.
Your distributor or Training and Technical
Support Services at Scott Safety will be
pleased to provide training course details
and quotes for service contracts.

1.7 SPARE PARTS AND
ACCESSORIES
Customer Services provide an efficient,
friendly, customer contact point for ordering
new apparatus, spare parts and
accessories. The team can also provide
general information on Scott Safety
products.
1.8 WARRANTY
The products manufactured at our factories
in Skelmersdale and Vaasa carry a
warranty of 12 months (unless stated
otherwise) for parts, labour and return to
site. The warranty period runs from the date
of purchase by the end user.
These products are warranted to be free
from defects in materials and workmanship
at the time of delivery. Scott Safety will be
under no liability for any defect arising from
wilful damage, negligence, abnormal
working conditions, failure to follow the
original manufacturer’s instructions, misuse
or unauthorised alteration or repair.
Evidence of purchase date will need to be
provided for any claims arising during the
warranty period. All warranty claims must
be directed through Customer Services
and in accordance with our sales return
procedure.
2 TECHNICAL
DESCRIPTION
2.1 GENERAL
RAS ASBESTOS is a positive pressure
airline apparatus with a bandolier and
waistbelt harness. The supply airline hose
connects to a CEN connector that supplies
the facemask mounted demand valve via a
length of medium pressure air hose. The
facemask with filter and can be fitted with a
suitable Scott Safety Particulate filter when
entering, or leaving the hazard area with
the airline disconnected. In this mode the
facemask functions as a negative pressure
device.
WARNING: RAS ASBESTOS must not
be used in oxygen deficient or
hazardous atmospheres when
disconnected from the Airline supply.
A NRV in the airline connector prevents
contaminant entering the breathing hose
while the wearer is disconnected from the
airline.
RAS ASBESTOS has an additional high
efficiency particle filter in the medium
pressure tube that removes contaminant,
such as asbestos dust, that may have
gained access to the airline supply. This
filter must be renewed annually during the
annual service or if the filter is visually
excessively contaminated.
2.2 FILTERS
The service life of the filters is dependent
on the environment and the use-by-date
marked on the filter. DO NOT use
damaged, wet, clogged, or time expired
filters.
The filter screws into the facemask’s screw
connector. A filter cover is provided to
preserve the filter when an airline is in use.
A blank-plug is provided to seal the mask
when a filter is not fitted. Filters must
conform to EN14387:2004+A1:2008 or
EN143 with an EN148-1 standard thread
and must be appropriate for the known
work place hazards.
RAS ASBESTOS apparatus may be used
with up to 90 metres (297 feet) of medium
pressure airline hose, with a burst pressure
in excess of 80 bar.
When likely to come into contact with
corrosive fluids or materials, it is
recommended that only anti-static hoses
are used.
2.3 DEMAND VALVE HOSE
The hose has a working pressure of 16 bar
and a burst pressure in excess of 80 bar.
The airline manifold assemblies have an
integral particle filter to remove contaminant
from the air supply.
The RAS ASBESTOS airline manifold
assemblies incorporate a NRV.
2.4 DEMAND VALVE (DV)
The DV operates in conjunction with the
exhale valve in the facemask to maintain a
positive pressure within the facemask.

The DV has a reset button that enables
wearers to close the airflow through the DV,
allowing the facemask to be removed
without loss of cylinder air.
When the apparatus is donned the DV is
normally ‘reset’ (closed), and is opened
(activated) when the wearer takes a first
breath.
2.5 PANASEAL / VISION 3 /
PROMASK FACEMASK
The Panaseal, Vision 3 and Promask
facemasks are available, manufactured in
non-dermatitic Neoprene or Silicone and
have a 5-point head harness. A neckstrap
is provided. The polycarbonate visor is
impact resistant.
An inner mask minimises CO2dead space
and visor misting. A speech diaphragm is
fitted.
Buckles on both apparatus are black nylon
and stainless steel.
In addition to the QF bayonet connector;
there is a right screw connector for
attaching the replaceable air filter.
A blanking plug is provided which must be
fitted if the facemask is used without a filter.
2.6 BANDOLIER AND
WAISTBELT HARNESS
The bandolier and waistbelt harness is easy
clean webbing with nylon buckles. Airline
pull is taken by the harness, via a D-ring
sewn into the bandolier. The airline
connector manifold is attached to the D-ring
by a shackle.
2.7 LOW PRESSURE
WARNING WHISTLE
A low pressure warning whistle is provided,
the whistle activates when the airline
pressure drops below approximately 4 bar.
Note If the apparatus is used with a mobile
air trolley a separate warning whistle is
provided as part of the mobile air trolley.
3 PRE-USE AND
MONTHLY CHECKS
WARNING: Do not use apparatus that
fails any of the following inspections or
checks.
3.1 INSPECTION
1. Check that:
•The apparatus is complete, clean and
in good condition.
•All buckles are in good condition and
close and open freely.
•Waistbelt and shoulder straps are fully
slackened and ready for use.
•Check that the orange O-ring on the
DV outlet is clean and in good
condition.
•The facemask, especially the visor, is
in good condition with the harness fully
slackened.
2. When airline hoses are used, check
that:
•Hoses are in good condition: free of
splits, abrasions and crush damage.
•Couplings are in good condition and
can be made and broken easily.
•The air supply conforms to EN
12021:1999 (See Introduction).
•Check that the filter is suitable for the
workplace hazard and within its use-by
date (see filter label). If a filter is not
fitted the blanking plug must be fitted.
•Check that the O-ring on the filter or
blanking plug is in good condition.

3.2 BANDOLIER WAISTBELT
WARNING: Do not use the apparatus if
the shackle is missing or damaged.
1. Check there is no damage or excess
wear in the bandolier and that the shackle
is securely attached to the D-ring. If
necessary tighten the shackle nut.
2. Ensure that the CEN airline
connector is clean and in good condition.
3. Equipment that is damaged or shows
signs of excessive wear should be returned
to a Scott Safety service centre.
4. DO NOT use the equipment if it fails
any of the above checks.
5. Check the airline supply pressure
3.3 DV & FACEMASKS
1. Press the black rubber reset button
on the side of the DV.
2. Check that the red bypass switch is
turned so that the flat on the bypass switch
aligns with the DV outlet.
3. Check that the facemask is clean and
undamaged.
4. Check that the orange DV O-ring is
clean and in good condition.
5. Fit the DV to the facemask and turn it
in the facemask fitting until the red locking
catch engages fully. Twist the DV gently to
confirm that it has engaged.
3.4 AIRLINE CHECKS
1. Check the supply airline flow and
pressure.
2. Remove connector dust caps and
check for wear and damage.
3. Make connection to an appropriate
connector capable of supplying breathable
compressed air (See Introduction,
Compressed Airline Supplies).
4. Check that the connection is secure
and that the connector releases easily,
without sticking.
5. Press the DV reset button.
6. Pressurise the attachment and check
all connections for leaks. On airline
attachments check that the female
connector does not leak.
7. DO NOT use attachments that show
signs of excessive wear, or damage or that
leak excessively.
8. Replace dust caps.

4 DONNING
POCEDURES
4.1 ATTACHING THE FILTER
WARNING: When breathing from an
airline, a filter cover, or blanking plug
must be in place to ensure that the first
breath will activate.
1. Check that the cord from the filter
cover is around the filter connector. Check
that the filter is in-date (see filter label).
2. Check that the filter O-ring is in place
and in good condition. Screw the filter to
the facemask.
3. If a filter is not used a blank plug
must be fitted in its place.
4.2 DONNING THE
BANDOLIER
1. Hang the facemask from the
neckstrap and don the bandolier so that the
DV hose is over the right shoulder.
2. Fasten the waistbelt and adjust the
shoulder strap for a comfortable fit.
4.3 FACEMASKS
1. Hold the head harness lower straps,
place chin in chin-cup and pull straps over
back of head, brushing hair away from
faceseal.

2. Tighten the straps in sequence:
bottom, side then top. DO NOT over-
tighten as this distorts the faceseal.
4.4 NEGATIVE PRESSURE
TEST
1. Disconnect the airline supply.
2. Attach the filter seal cord to the
neckstrap and fit the filter seal to the mask.
3. Use a thumb to seal the airline
coupling.
4. Press the filter seal with the palm of
the hand to seal the filter inlet, and inhale.
Hold your breath for 10 seconds. Check
that the facemask pulls on to the face and
does not pull away during the 10 seconds.
5. Re-connect the airline supply.
4.5 POSITIVE PRESSURE
TEST
1. Check that the bypass switch is in the
closed position and inhale sharply to
activate the first breath mechanism.
2. Insert a finger under the mask seal
and check for a steady outward flow of air.
3. Remove the finger and allow the
mask to re-seal.

4.6 FACE SEAL TEST
1. Hold your breath for 10 seconds and
listen carefully for leaks.
2. If the facemask fails the leak test:
open the cylinder valve loosen the
headharness adjust the facemask and
repeat steps 1 to 3 until a full seal is
achieved.
DO NOT use apparatus that leaks.
4.7 DEMAND VALVE TEST
1. Open the bypass switch and check
that there is a steady flow of air into
the facemask.
2. Close the bypass switch.
4.8 WHISTLE TEST
1. Gradually turn off the airline supply
and check that the warning whistle sounds
when the pressure falls to approximately 4
bar.
2. Turn the airline supply fully on.
4.9 AIRLINE SUPPLY
1. Connect the airline to the apparatus
and close the cylinder valve.
2. If necessary, take a sharp breath to
activate the DV, and then breathe normally.
5 While in Use
In the unlikely event that the DV fails to
supply air - open the bypass switch and
go immediately to a safe breathable
atmosphere.
In the unlikely event that the DV fails to
supply air, even when the bypass is
open - go immediately to a safe
breathable atmosphere.
DO NOT remove the facemask while in a
hazardous atmosphere.
Ensure that the airline does not become
trapped, snagged, kinked or crushed.
Ensure that the airline air supply is
sufficient for the duration of the tasks to
be undertaken.
When air is supplied by a compressor,
ensure that the air at the air intake is
clean and free of contaminant and
exhaust fumes.
When air is supplied from an airline
trolley, ensure that the trolley is
monitored by a competent person.
Check that filters on the airline supply
system are not clogged.
Ensure filter cover is in place when
breathing from the airline supply.
Leave the hazardous area if you taste, or
smell contaminant.

6 Doffing
WARNING: Do not remove the
apparatus until well clear of the hazard
area.
1. Hold your breath and press the DV
reset button.
2. Release the head harness by pulling
the buckles forward, and remove the
facemask.
3. Push the airline couplings together
and pull back the CEN collar to disconnect
the airline hose.
4. Open the DV bypass to vent any
compressed air from the facemask and
close the bypass.
5. Replace the dustcap on the coupling.
6. Release the waistbelt, and remove
the apparatus.
7. Clean and check the apparatus in
accordance with Section 7 - After Use
Cleaning and Testing before returning it to
service.

7 AFTER USE
7.1 CLEANING
Cautions:
•DO NOT immerse the DV or warning
whistle in water.
•USE ONLY the specified methods
and materials. DO NOT use bleach,
solvent, detergent or abrasive
cleaners.
•Dry thoroughly, away from direct
heat and sunlight, prior to storage.
1. Disconnect DV from the facemask.
2. Wash and disinfect the mask
thoroughly in a solution of disinfectant and
hand-hot warm water.
3. Rinse the mask thoroughly in clean
running water. Pay particular attention to
flushing out the exhale valve.
4. Hang mask by its neckstrap and
allow it to dry thoroughly away from direct
heat or sunlight.
5. When dry, sanitise the faceseal with
TriGene disinfectant wipes.
NOTE:
TriGENE disinfecting wipes are available in
packs of 20 sachets, (Article No. 2004225)
or drums of 100 wipes (Article No.
1017652).
6. Polish the visor inside and out with a
clean, lint-free cloth and slacken the head
harness, ready for use.
7. Sponge the harness with a mild soap
and warm water solution. Rinse thoroughly
and dry in a well-ventilated room away from
direct heat and sunlight.
Cautions:
•DO NOT immerse the DV.
•DO NOT store until completely dry.
8. Fit the yellow cap on the DV outlet.
9. If required use a small brush (tooth
brush) and a mild solution of soap and
warm water to clean around the locking
catch and bypass switch.
10. Clean the valve body using a lint free
cloth moistened in a mild solution of soap
and warm water.
7.2 CHECK APPARATUS
1. Operate the DV locking catch and
bypass switch several times and check that
they do not stick. If either is not free
moving, attach explanatory note and return
for service.
2. Check that the harness is not worn or
damaged, and that buckles and fastenings
are fully operational. Apparatus with major
defects must be returned for service, with
an explanatory label attached.
3. Check apparatus in accordance with
Section 3 - Pre-Use and Monthly Checks.
7.3 STORAGE
Device must be protected from damage
during transportation.
The apparatus must be stored in a clean
dry environment away from direct heat and
sunlight.
Storage temperature should not exceed
+40°C to -10°C.

8 SCHEDULED
MAINTENANCE
8.1 MONTHLY
Test RAS ASBESTOS in accordance
with the instructions given in Section 3 of
this Manual. Record test details in the
apparatus’ BA Logbook. This record is
mandatory in the UK and most EC
countries; and must be kept up to date
and available for inspection. Please see
Section 7.3 for details.
8.2 ANNUALLY
RAS ASBESTOS must be returned for a
workshop service annually and for a
major workshop service at six-yearly
intervals.
After each workshop service, perform the
user checks detailed in Section 3 of this
Manual prior to returning RAS
ASBESTOS to service.
Check that workshop service details have
been recorded in the apparatus’ BA Log.

WAARSCHUWINGEN
Gelieve grondig te lezen en volledig te begrijpen
Deze handleiding is bedoeld voor personeel dat werd opgeleid in het gebruik en
onderhoud van ademhalingsapparaten met perslucht en mag NIET worden gebruikt als
doe-het-zelf-handleiding voor niet-opgeleide gebruikers. Het niet-begrijpen of niet-naleven
van deze instructies kan ernstige letsels of de dood tot gevolg hebben.
Scott Safety heeft grote zorg besteed aan de juistheid, volledigheid en duidelijkheid van
de informatie in deze handleiding. Mocht u toch iets niet begrijpen of vragen hebben over
het Scott Safety ademhalingsapparaat, dan kunt u altijd contact opnemen met
onzeTraining and Technical Support Services.
De volgende waarschuwingen stemmen overeen met de vereisten van de erkenningsinstanties
en zijn van toepassing op het gebruik van ademhalingsapparaten in het algemeen:
Gebruikers van ademhalingsapparaten moeten degelijk worden opgeleid in het gebruik
en onderhoud van onafhankelijke ademhalingsapparaten met perslucht.
Zorg ervoor dat u een apparaat kiest dat voldoende bescherming biedt voor de uit te
voeren taak en de gevaren die men waarschijnlijk zal ontmoeten. Volg ook de nationale
voorschriften terzake.
In sommige zeer gevaarlijke omgevingen kan de geboden bescherming niet volstaan.
Het apparaat moet worden getest en onderhouden zoals voorgeschreven in Hoofdstuk 7
– Onderhoudsschema en de opmerkingen in Hoofdstuk 1 onder Opleiding van het
personeel en Service.
De kwaliteit van de lucht waarmee het ademhalingsapparaat wordt gevoed en gevuld,
moet voldoen aan de vereisten van EN 12021 : 1999. Meer hierover leest u in Hoofdstuk 1.
Zorg voor een goede afdichting tussen het gelaat en het gelaatsmasker. Het
dragen van een baard, bakkebaarden of een bril kan de afdichting van een
gelaatsmasker op het gelaat van de drager negatief beïnvloeden.
Dit apparaat is niet geschikt voor gebruik onder water.
Dit apparaat biedt geen bescherming tegen koolstofdioxide, koolstofmonoxide of andere
toxische gassen en dampen.
Wanneer RAS ASBESTOS is gecontamineerd met asbest, dat een gevaar vormt voor
leven en gezondheid, moeten de lokale statuten, gezondheids- en
veiligheidsvoorschriften, plaatselijke werkprocedures of gespecialiseerd advies met
betrekking tot: het uittrekken, de decontaminatie, reiniging of verwijdering van RAS
ASBESTOS of zijn filters worden geraadpleegd en nageleefd.
RAS ASBESTOS is niet goedgekeurd voor gebruik in ontvlambare of explosieve
omgevingen.
AFWIJZING VAN AANSPRAKELIJKHEID
Het niet naleven van deze instructies of een verkeerd gebruik van het apparaat kan
leiden tot: overlijden, lichamelijke of materiële schade en het verlies van elke
aanspraak op garantie of dekking door verzekeringen.

1 VOORWOORD
1.1 GOEDKEURINGEN
RAS ASBESTOS-apparaten dragen de
‘CE’-markering conform de EG-richtlijn
EG/686/1986.
Ze zijn goedgekeurd conform de Europese
norm EN 14593-1:2005
(Ademhalingsbeschermingsmiddelen –
Ademhalingsapparaat met persluchtleiding
en vraagklep).
De gelaatsmaskers zijn goedgekeurd
conform EN136:1998.
Scott Safety voldoet aan de
kwaliteitsnormen van: ISO 9001.

1.2 GEBRUIKSBEPERKINGEN
RAS ASBESTOS mag enkel worden
gebruikt met Scott Safety-
ademhalingsapparaat-gelaatsmaskers.
Uitsluitend voor gebruik door competent
personeel, opgeleid door instructeurs van
Scott Safety of hun bevoegde agenten.
NIET gebruiken over een brilmontuur, een
baard (of andere gelaatsbeharing) of
kleding die de afdichting van het
gelaatsmasker tegen het gelaat kan
belemmeren.
1.3 ADEMLUCHT
Er kan natuurlijke of synthetische lucht
worden gebruikt om het
ademhalingsapparaat te voeden. Deze
moet voldoen aan EN 12021 : 1999.
1.4 LUCHTTOEVOER DOOR
PERSLUCHTLEIDINGEN
De lucht die via persluchtleidingen wordt
toegevoerd, moet voldoen aan
EN12021:1999.
De druk in de luchtleiding moet tussen 5,0 -
9,0 bar (70 - 130psi) bedragen. De
toevoercapaciteit voor één luchtleiding staat
in Tabel 1. Over het algemeen vraagt elke
bijkomende drager 150 liter/minuut extra en
elk bijkomend paar dragers vraagt 300 l/min
voor één drager en 450 l/min voor twee
dragers (zie Tabel 1). Alle metingen dienen
te gebeuren aan het uiteinde van de
luchtleiding, waar de drager zich bevindt.
(Een luchtdebiettester (onderdeelnr.
1039578) is verkrijgbaar bij Scott Safety.)
Voorbeeld: voor 8 gebruikers (4 paren)
bedraagt het aanbevolen debiet x (300 +
150) = 1800 liter/minuut.

De luchtslangen die in combinatie met

producten zijn en voldoen aan EN14593-
1:2005.
1.5 OPLEIDING VAN HET
PERSONEEL
Personeel dat ademhalingsapparaten
gebruikt, moet volledig worden opgeleid
volgens de plaatselijke nationale
voorschriften en deze instructies.
Deze instructies zijn geen toereikend
alternatief voor een erkende opleiding in het
juiste en veilige gebruik van het Sabre-
ademhalingsapparaat door een
gekwalificeerd instructeur.

1.6 SERVICE
RAS ASBESTOS-ademhalingsapparaten
moeten op regelmatige tijden een
onderhoudsbeurt krijgen, door personeel
dat hiertoe een formele opleiding heeft
genoten en over een actueel getuigschrift
voor het onderhoud en de reparatie van
Scott Safety-ademhalingsapparatuur
beschikt. Meer details over het
onderhoudsschema vindt u in de Scott
Safety-onderhoudsinstructies. Kopieën
hiervan kunnen enkel worden bezorgd aan
geregistreerde houders van een actueel
getuigschrift.
Bij uw verdeler of de afdeling Opleiding
en Technische Ondersteuning van Scott
Safety kunt terecht voor meer informatie
over deze opleidingen en offertes voor
servicecontracten.
1.7 RESERVEONDERDELEN
EN ACCESSOIRES
Om nieuwe apparatuur, reserveonderdelen

Hier krijgt u ook algemene informatie over

1.8 GARANTIE
De producten vervaardigd in onze fabrieken
in Skelmersdale en Vaasa genieten 12
maanden (tenzij anders aangegeven)
garantie op onderdelen, werkuren en
terugzending. De garantieperiode begint op
de dag van aankoop door de eindgebruiker.
Deze producten zijn gegarandeerd vrij van
materiaal- en fabricagefouten op het
ogenblik van de levering. Scott Safety
aanvaardt geen enkele aansprakelijkheid
voor enig defect ten gevolge van
opzettelijke beschadiging, verwaarlozing,
abnormale werkomstandigheden, niet-
naleving van de instructies van de
oorspronkelijke fabrikant, verkeerd gebruik
en aanpassingen of reparaties door
onbevoegden.
Voor iedere prestatie onder garantie dient
een bewijs van de aankoopdatum te
worden voorgelegd. Alle garantie-eisen
moeten aan de Klantenservice worden
gericht. De terugzending dient te verlopen
volgens onze vaste retourprocedure.
2 TECHNISCHE
BESCHRIJVING
2.1 ALGEMEEN
RAS ASBESTOS is een
ademhalingsapparaat met luchtslang onder
positieve druk, voorzien van een harnas
met een schouderriem en een heupriem.
De toevoerluchtslang wordt aangesloten op
een CEN-slangkoppeling, die het
ademhalingsautomaat aan het
gelaatsmasker via een eind middeldruk-
luchtslang van lucht voorziet. Het
gelaatsmasker met filter kan worden
uitgerust met een geschikte deeltjesfilter
van Scott Safety, bij het betreden of
verlaten van de gevaarlijke ruimte zonder
dat de luchtleiding is aangesloten. In deze
gebruiksmodus fungeert het gelaatsmasker
als een negatieve-drukapparaat.
WAARSCHUWING: RAS ASBESTOS
mag niet worden gebruikt in een
zuurstofarme of gevaarlijke ruimte
zonder aansluiting op de luchttoevoer.
Een terugslagklep in de koppeling van de
luchtleiding voorkomt dat er contaminant in
de luchtslang binnendringt, wanneer de
drager van de luchtleiding wordt
losgekoppeld.
RAS ASBESTOS is uitgerust met een
bijkomende uiterst efficiënte deeltjesfilter in
de middeldrukslang, die contaminanten
zoals asbeststof, die toch in de luchtleiding
zijn binnengedrongen, verwijdert. Deze filter
moet elk jaar tijdens de jaarlijkse
servicebeurt worden vernieuwd, of eerder
als de filter zichtbaar sterk vervuild is.

2.2 FILTERS
De levensduur van de filters is afhankelijk
van de omgeving en de vervaldatum die op
elke filter staat. Gebruik GEEN
beschadigde, natte, verstopte of vervallen
filters. De filter wordt in de schroefkoppeling
van het gelaatsmasker geschroefd. Er is
een filterdeksel voorzien, dat de filter
beschermt, wanneer er met een luchtleiding
wordt gewerkt. Wanneer er geen filter
wordt aangebracht, wordt het masker
afgedicht met een blinde stop. De filters
moeten voldoen aan
EN14387:2004+A1:2008 of EN143 met een
standaard-schroefdraad conform EN148-1
en ze moeten geschikt zijn voor de
bekende risico's in de werkplaats.
RAS ASBESTOS-apparaten kunnen
worden gebruikt met een middeldruk-
luchtslang van maximaal 90 meter, met een
piekdruk van meer dan 80 bar.
Als de slang in contact kan komen met
corrosieve vloeistoffen of materialen,
verdient het aanbeveling enkel antistatische
slangen te gebruiken.
2.3 SLANG NAAR
ADEMHALINGSAUTOMAAT
De slang heeft een bedrijfsdruk van 16 bar
en een piekdruk van meer dan 80 bar.
De verdeelstukken aan de luchtleiding zijn
voorzien van een geïntegreerde
deeltjesfilter, die contaminanten uit de
toegevoerde lucht filtert.
De RAS ASBESTOS-luchtleiding-
verdeelstukken bevatten een ingebouwde
terugslagklep.
2.4 AANVRAAGVENTIEL
Het aanvraagventiel werkt samen met het
uitademventiel van het gelaatsmasker om
een positieve druk in het gelaatsmasker te
handhaven.
Het aanvraagventiel heeft een resetknop
waarmee de drager de luchttoevoer door
het aanvraagventiel kan afsluiten, zodat hij
het gelaatsmasker zonder luchtverlies kan
afzetten.
Wanneer het apparaat wordt opgezet,
wordt het aanvraagventiel normaal 'gereset'
(gesloten). Het gaat open (geactiveerd)
zodra de drager de eerste keer inademt.
2.5 PANASEAL / VISION 3 /
PROMASK -
GELAATSMASKERS
Het gelaatsmasker is verkrijgbaar in
huidvriendelijk neopreen of silicone en is
voorzien van een 5-punts-hoofdtuig. Er is
een halsriem voorzien. Het polycarbonaat-
oogglas is slagvast.
Een binnenmasker beperkt de dode ruimte
die CO2kan bevatten en het beslaan van
de vizier. Er is een spreekmembraan
aangebracht.
De gespen aan beide apparaten zijn van
zwart nylon en roestvrij staal.
Naast de QF-bajonetkoppeling is er nog
een schroefkoppeling ter bevestiging van
een vervangbare luchtfilter voorzien.
Er wordt een blinde stop meegeleverd, die
op het gelaatsmasker moet worden
geschroefd voor gebruik zonder filter.
2.6 HARNAS MET
SCHOUDERRIEM EN
HEUPRIEM
Het bandelier en de heupband harnas
gemakkelijk schoon band met nylon
gespen. De trekkracht op de luchtleiding
wordt opgevangen door het harnas, door
middel van een D-ring die in de
schouderriem is ingenaaid. Het
aansluitverdeelstuk van de luchtleiding
wordt aan de D-ring bevestigd met een
beugel.
2.7 WAARSCHUWINGSFLUITJ
E VOOR LAGE DRUK
Er is een waarschuwingsfluitje voor lage
druk aangebracht, het fluitje treedt in
werking wanneer de druk in de luchtleiding
daalt tot onder ongeveer 4 bar. N.B.
Wanneer het apparaat wordt gebruikt met
een mobiele luchttrolley wordt voor een
afzonderlijk waarschuwingsfluitje gezorgd
als onderdeel van de mobiele luchttrolley.

3 CONTROLES VOOR
GEBRUIK EN
MAANDELIJKSE
INSPECTIE
WAARSCHUWING: Gebruik nooit een
apparaat dat niet voldoet voor de
volgende inspecties of controles.
3.1 INSPECTIE
1. Controleer of:
•Het apparaat volledig, schoon en in
goede staat is.
•Alle gespen in goede staat zijn en vlot
te openen en sluiten zijn.
•De heupriem en schouderriemen
volledig los en gebruiksklaar zijn.
•Controleer of de oranje O-ring aan de
aansluiting van ademhalingsautomaat
schoon en in goede staat is.
•Het gelaatsmasker, vooral de vizier, in
goede staat is en het hoofdtuig
volledig los is.
2. Controleer bij gebruik van
luchtleidingen of:
•De slangen in goede staat zijn: vrij van
scheurtjes, krassen en schade door
verplettering.
•De koppelingen in goede staat zijn en
makkelijk kunnen worden aan- en
afgekoppeld.
•De luchttoevoer voldoet aan
EN12021:1999 (zie inleiding).
•Controleer of de filter geschikt is voor
de gevaren in de werkplaats en zijn
vervaldatum niet is overschreden (zie
label op de filter). Als er geen filter is
aangebracht, moet de blinde stop
worden bevestigd.
•Controleer of de O-ring aan de filter of
de blinde stop in goede staat is.
3.2 SCHOUDER- EN
HEUPRIEM
WAARSCHUWING: Gebruik het
apparaat niet als de beugel ontbreekt of
is beschadigd.
1. Controleer of de schouderriem geen
beschadigingen of ernstige slijtage vertoont
en of de beugel stevig aan de D-ring is
bevestigd. Draai de moer van de beugel
eventueel aan.
2. Zorg ervoor dat de CEN-luchtleiding-
koppeling schoon en in goede staat is.
3. Uitrusting die beschadigd is of
ernstige slijtage vertoont, moet naar een
Scott Safety-servicecentrum worden
teruggestuurd.
4. Gebruik de uitrusting NIET als ze niet
voldoet aan één van de voornoemde
controles.
5. Controleer de toevoerdruk in de
luchtleiding
3.3 ADEMAUTOMATEN &
GELAATSMASKERS
1. Druk op de zwarte rubberen
resetknop aan de zijkant van de
ademautomaat.
2. Controleer of de rode bypass-
schakelaar zo staat, dat de vlakke kant van
de bypass-schakelaar aan de kant van de
aansluiting voor de ademautomaat zit.
3. Controleer of het gelaatsmasker
schoon en intact is.
4. Controleer of de oranje O-ring aan de
ademautomaat schoon en in goede staat is.
5. Bevestig de ademautomaat aan het
gelaatsmasker en schroef het in de
koppeling van het gelaatsmasker tot de
rode vergrendeling helemaal vastzit. Draai
het aanvraagventiel licht om te verzekeren
dat het stevig is bevestigd.

3.4 CONTROLE VAN DE
LUCHTLEIDING
1. Controleer het debiet en de druk in
de toevoerluchtleiding.
2. Verwijder de stofkapjes van de
aansluitingen en controleer op slijtage en
beschadigingen.
3. Sluit ze aan op een geschikte
koppeling voor inadembare perslucht (zie
inleiding, persluchttoevoer).
4. Controleer op stevige aankoppeling
en ga na of de koppeling vlot kan worden
losgemaakt zonder haperen.
5. Druk op de resetknop aan de
ademautomaat.
6. Breng het geheel onder druk en
controleer alle koppelingen op lekkage.
Controleer of de vrouwelijke koppeling van
de luchtleiding-aansluitingen niet lekt.
7. Gebruik GEEN koppelingen die
tekenen van slijtage, beschadiging of
overmatige lekkage vertonen.
8. Bevestig de stofkapjes opnieuw.
4 PROCEDURES VOOR
INGEBRUIKNAME
4.1 BEVESTIGING VAN DE
FILTER
WAARSCHUWING: Wanneer er door
een luchtleiding wordt geademd, moet er
een filterdeksel of blinde stop worden
aangebracht, om te verzekeren dat het
apparaat bij de eerste inademing wordt
geactiveerd.
1. Controleer of het snoer van het
filterdeksel rond de filteraansluiting zit.
Controleer of de vervaldatum van de filter
niet is overschreden (zie filterlabel).
2. Controleer of de oranje O-ring is
aangebracht en in goede staat is. Schroef
de filter op het gelaatsmasker.
3. Als er geen filter wordt gebruikt, moet
er een blinde stop worden aangebracht.
4.2 INGEBRUIKNAME VAN DE
SCHOUDERRIEM
1. Hang het gelaatsmasker aan de
halsriem en plaats de schouderriem zo dat
de slang naar de ademhalingsautomaat
over de rechterschouder zit.
