Knowing your SEAA GEL
Your new SEAANGEL SA15 AIS FLARE is an advanced AIS search and rescue
ransmi er (SART/MOB). When ac iva ed, he SA15 AIS FLARE will ransmi
s andardized messages con aining i s exac GPS posi ion and a reques for help o
any nearby ship or plane hos ing an AIS receiving uni wi hin i s ransmission range.
This makes i easy o find a person in dis ress, and hus significan ly increases he
chances of survival.

Handling the SEAA GEL
3.1 Activating your SEAA GEL

3.2 Understanding the LEDs

compasses and cards wi h magne ic s rips like credi cards.
For proper working please make sure that the antenna is above
the water surface!

1. Make sure he ripcord is in place.
2. Hold he Test bu on down for more han 3 seconds
un il bo h LEDs (red and yellow) ligh up.
3. Release he Test bu on.
4. All s a us LEDs will go dark.
3.4 Battery life
This uni uses indus rial li hium cells (li hium manganese dioxide) which have a very
low self-discharge. This guaran ees a long life up o 96 hours (depends on FLARE
version) of ac ive emergency opera ion, provided he device's ba eries are replaced
af er ac iva ion or af er 7 years – whichever comes firs .
You will find he ba ery expira ion da e on he back of your SEAANGEL:

Testing your SEAA GEL
4.1 Activating the self test

1. Press he Test bu on 1 .
2. The Flash LED 2 will flash once only o indica e he s ar of he es .
3. The yellow S a us LED 3 will flash during he self- es .
4. Keep your eyes on the LEDs.
- The resul s will only be displayed for 5 seconds af er he es .
- Refer o Table 2 o read he resul s.
5. The device will au oma ically shu down.

Execute the self-test every year but only once a year.
Ideally, you should run he self- es in good wea her wi h a clear view o
he sky, so ha a GPS posi ion can defini ely be de ermined.

4.2 Interpreting the self-test result

4.3 How long does a self-test take?
The device a emp s o de ermine a GPS posi ion for up o 15 minu es. Once he
posi ion has been de ermined, es messages are ransmi ed by VHF con aining he
calcula ed posi ion and he ex "SART TEST”. A es may ake be ween 2 and 15
minu es.
The test result will be displayed for 5 seconds only, immedia ely
af er he self- es .
The dura ion of he self- es depends primarily on he ime needed o
de ermine he curren GPS posi ion. This can vary and may ake as
long as 15 minu es. Pay close a en ion o he device when performing
he self- es in order no o miss he s a us being issued.

There are so many differen life raf models, some of hem already offering clipping bel s,
fas ening s rips or even pocke s for SART beacons. If none of ha applies o your life raf you

SEAANGEL as shown in he figure below.
