Please only upgrade your router if you are instructed to do so by seethelight’s technical support team, or if
you are encountering any of the following issues:
ˉ Unprompted rebooting of the router
ˉ Temporary and intermittent loss of internet connectivity
ˉ Temporary and intermittent loss of wireless connectivity
IMPORTANT: Please note that the upgrade may reset your router’s configuration so you won’t be able to
access the internet. If you find this to be the case, you will need to complete the procedure outlined in ‘2.
Reconfiguring your router’. Make sure you have your welcome letter and ‘Internet User Guide’ to hand before
starting the upgrade process. The ‘Internet User Guide’ can be downloaded from the seethelight website.

IMPORTANT: If you have been issued an upgrade CD, skip this section and go to ‘1b. Upgrading your router
using a CD’ on page 6.
1. Download a zip file from https://www.seethelight.co.uk/downloads/upgrade.zip. Right-click the file
and select ‘Extract All’. Now select the location to extract the file - it doesn’t matter where as long as it’s
somewhere easy to find (e.g. your desktop).
2. If you are connected to the internet via a wireless connection you will need to switch to a ‘wired’
connection (so that there is a connection via an ethernet cable between your computer and the router) to
complete the upgrade. If you need help to do this, please consult seethelight’s ‘Internet User Guide’. Open
the extracted ‘TG_Upgrade’ file and double-click ‘setup’.

3. Choose language and click “OK”
4. Select “Upgrade your Thomson Gateway”
5. Click “Next”

6. Enter the user name admin and password quick. If you have changed your password, enter your new
password and user name.
7. Select the file shown (there will only be one, in this example ‘R8265IZ.bin’) and select ‘Next’.
8. Please wait a few minutes while the router’s firmware updates.

9. Select ‘Finish’.
IMPORTANT: Please note that the upgrade may reset your router’s configuration so you won’t be able
to access the internet upon its completion. If you find this to be the case, you will need to complete the
procedure outlined in ‘2. Reconfiguring your router’. Make sure you have the user name and password as
printed on your welcome letter to hand as they will be needed during this process. If you have mislaid this
information you can request it from us.

1b. Upgrading your router using a CD
IMPORTANT: If you have already completed the steps in ‘1a. Upgrading your router’ you do not need to
complete this section. This is for customers who have been issued an upgrade CD.
1. Insert the CD into the drive.
2. If the CD does not automatically run, go to ‘My Computer’, locate your disk drive then right-click the CD
and select ‘AutoPlay’.
3. Now proceed to step 3 (on the next page), and continue to follow the instructions.

1. Launch your web browser and the following page should be displayed. If the page does not display, type
http://192.168.1.254 into your web browser’s address bar and press enter.
2. Now click on the link ‘Login as a dierent user’ and a user name and password box will be displayed. Enter
admin in the ‘User name’ field and the default password quick in the ‘Password’ field.
3. Enter the user name and password as displayed in your welcome letter.

4. Now click the ‘Connect’ button. If you have successfully configured your router, the following screen will be
displayed:
IMPORTANT: Seethelight recommend that you change your router’s default password (quick) to something
else to help keep your computer safe online. Use the procedure outlined in the ‘Internet User Guide’ (‘Chang-
ing the admin password’, page 17) to change your password.
