GETTING STARTED CHECKLIST
This guide applies to all models of Seneca Milestone Appliances. Follow the checklist below to ensure that you carry out the
steps of your installation in the right order. Each step is detailed in the subsequent sections.
o Prepare network and devices
• Your system has come preconfigured with IP addresses, however, take
this opportunity to reconfigure your network adapters and any devices
you wish to add.
• Make sure camera models and firmware are supported by the
XProtect system.
• Cameras must be connected to the network, and you can access them
from your unit.
o Obtain a software license code
• Purchase XProtect software and obtain the license file
• Go to the Milestone website (https://online.milestonesys.com/) and
register your SLC
THIS STEP DOES NOT APPLY TO XPROTECT
ESSENTIAL+ SYSTEMS
o Prepare your unit • Mount the unit using a shelf or rails to support the chassis
• Connect peripherals, LAN, and power
o Turn on the unit and complete the
Seneca Maestro Utility
• Allow auto-configuration to begin (optimizations will begin in the back-
ground automatically)
• System will automatically reboot at this time.
• Following reboot, relaunch the ‘Maestro’ Utility from the desktop (icon)
to proceed with XProtect installation.
o Install XProtect VMS
• Proceed to the ‘Milestone Setup’ tab in Maestro.
• Select your Milestone installation option
• If installing as a Milestone recording server, post installation please
return to Maestro and execute the respective optimizations.
o Download the latest XProtect
Device Pack
• A device pack is automatically included when you install the XProtect
software. For support of new devices and firmware versions, get the
latest device pack
o Update Windows® • Make sure that your Windows operating system is updated with all the
latest Windows updates
o Install clients on other computers • Install XProtect Smart Client
• Install XProtect Management Client

Please consult your Seneca or Milestone Account Manager for properly sized, uninterruptable power supply (UPS).
