THE TACTILE CAR SEAT
The Tactile Car Seat uses vibrations to transmit information to the driver. The Tactile Car Seat translates
instructions from the navigation system and translates these into different vibration patterns. The seat
provides intuitive navigation instructions when approaching exits, junctions and even roundabouts.
The Tactile Car Seat will be installed permanently into the vehicle. The Tactile Inlay will be placed under
the car seat upholstery in the seating area. The Tactile Inlay has 6 vibration motors. Using an USB
connection, the Tactile Inlay is connected to the Vehicle Information System. The Tactile Inlay translates
navigation information into pre-set vibrational patterns. The Tactile Car Seat is powered by the Vehicle
Information System.
Most (vehicle) navigation systems use screen and voice assistance to inform the user whether to turn left
or right. The Tactile Car Seat provides the user with navigation instructions using gentle vibrations.
Intuitive patterns are pre-set to distinct between instructions.
The system reduces cognitive load for the driver, by re-distributing the cues from visual and audio
channels. This allows drivers to focus on the road, experience less stress, better reaction times1and thus
less navigation mistakes.

! Ensure that cables are protected from hard areas such as metal strips in the car seat.
1. Lay the Tactile Inlay on top of car seat, align with center and front of seat. For best results; let the
Tactile Inlay follow the curve at the front of the car seat. Use a straight cut if modifications are
required.
2. If necessary, adjust Tactile Inlay to size, to equally spread sub-areas among car seat area, following
the guidelines in chapter 3.5.1.
a. Flip the Tactile Inlay upside down.
b. Take cables from the cable slots in the foam so they are clearly visible.
c. Carefully cut the Tactile Inlay along markings to separate sub-areas in order to place these
parts in-between seams. Do not cut through the cables.
Cut the foam edge under an angle of 45-60 degrees to ensure that the upholstery follows
the Tactile Inlay nicely.
d. Press the cables back into the pre-cut slots, or cut new cable slots according to the required
size.
3. Cut away excess foam that does not cover the center area of the car seat.

TROUBLESHOOT
If any problems occur during installation, use the following troubleshooting list to find a solution for the
problem.
If your problem cannot be solved using this list go to www.sentaz.com/support to contact Sentaz for
Technical support.
7.1 INSTALLATION OF THE TACTILE INLAY IN COMBINATION WITH
Seat heating or other
electronics in the car seat.
1. Carefully remove upholstery from car seat.
2. Seat heating electronics can be placed on top of the Tactile
Inlay (directly against the upholstery).
• Note that the placement of the Tactile Inlay underneath
the heating electronics may change its position.
3. Be careful not to damage heating electronics while installing
the Tactile Inlay into the car seat.
• Note that enough foam support for the heating electronics
is necessary to not damage the electronics. Also ensure this
when modification of the Tactile Inlay is necessary.
4. Note that the heating electronics may influence the vibration
intensity of the Tactile Inlay.
Adjustable front seat area.
1. Carefully remove upholstery from car seat.
2. If possible: Try to install all elements of the Tactile Inlay into the
non-adjustable area of the seat. Note that this may influence
the vibration experience (further to the back).

the adjustable area. Ensure that:
a. All cables are supported while being fully adjusted.
b. No excessive forces can be applied to the cables.
c. Cables cannot get stuck in moving parts.
Cable length from Tactile Inlay
to Vehicle Information System
is longer than 2m
1. Use a high quality amplified USB cable for optimal signal
processing.
