Model SIM-16
INTRODUCTION The SIEMENS Model SIM-16 Supervised I put Module
is a remotely located, ge eral purpose i put module. It
provides sixtee i put circuits for remote system
mo itori g. Each i put ca be i dividually programmed
as supervised (dry co tacts o ly) or u supervised
(ge eral-purpose i put). The SIM-16 has two Form C
relays. The relays a d the i puts are programmable usi g
the Zeus Programmi g Tool.
OPERATION The SIM-16 is mou ted i a e closure that is remotely
located from the Mai Pa el. Commu icatio betwee
the SIM-16 a d the NIC-C (Network I terface Card) is
through the Co trol Area Network (CAN) bus. Up to 99
SIM-16s ca be used with a si gle NIC-C.
Each SIM-16 has two 10-positio rotary switches that are
used to set the board address o the CAN which is a
sub-address of the NIC-C.
Every time a cha ge of state of the i put is detected, a
u ique CAN message is se t to the NIC-C. A CAN
message from the NIC-C directed to the SIM-16 co trols
the Form C relays.
PRE-INSTALLATION Rotary Address Switches - Set the board address for
each SIM-16 usi g both of the te -positio rotary
switches located o the board (See Figure 1). Each of
these addresses must be a sub-address of the NIC-C
a d must be the same as the addresses assig ed i the
Zeus Programmi g Tool.
INSTALLATION A SIM-16 may be i stalled i a REMBOX. Whe usi g REMBOX 2 or 4, mou t the
SIM-16 i o e module space o a REMBOX2-MP, P/N 500-634211 or REMBOX4-MP,
P/N 500-634212 usi g the four screws provided. (Refer to REMBOX2-MP/REMBOX4-
MP I stallatio I structio s, P/N 315-034211.) Up to 4 SIM-16s will fit i a REMBOX2;
up to 8 SIM-16s will fit i a REMBOX4.

Disconnect BATTERY and AC prior to working on equipment.
 Each SIM-16 module is a ode i the CAN bus.
 The SIM-16 ca be i stalled with or without a RNI. Co ect the CAN bus
a d 24V as show i Figures 2 a d 3.
 Up to 99 CAN modules, i a y combi atio , ca be co ected to the CAN
bus of each NIC-C.
 Each SIM-16 module is shipped with o e CCS cable.

The CAN bus requires a 1 0S termination at each end of the loop. Refer to the NIC-C
Installation Instructions, P/N 315-033 40 for details about CAN termination.
