finds anetwork,theConnectbutton intheConnectionManagerbecomesavailable.

network,thetwoLEDsonthemodemshowsolidblue.Thetablebelowdescribesother

Blinkingamber Themodem issearchingforservice(initializing).
Solidamber Modemerror—eitherthemodem ishavinga probleminitial-
izing(searchingforservice)orisofflinebecauseofafailure.
Contactyourserviceprovider.
Data Off The modemisunabletodetect2Gor3Gservice.
Blinkingamber Themodem hasdetecteda2G network(EDGE,GPRS,GSM)
andisreadytoconnect.
Solidamber Themodem isconnectedtoa2Gnetworkandis abletosend
andreceivedata.
Blinkingblue Themodemhas detecteda3Gnetwork(UMTS,HSPA) andis
readytoconnect.

Iftheorientationofyour computer’sUSBslotorthethicknessof
yourcomputeraresuchthatpressureisapplied tothe endorside of
themodem,you maydamagethe modemoryour computer.Insuch
cases,donotinsertthe modemdirectlyintoyourcomputer’sUSBslot.
UsetheUSBextensioncableand notebookcomputerclipinstead.

WhenshouldIuseanexternalantenna?
Useanexternalantennatoboost yoursignalin areasoflow signalstrength—outside
ofurbancentres,forexample,or whenyouareinornear astructurethatisblockingthe
signal.Ifyouexperiencedroppedconnectionsand ConnectionManagersignalstrength
indicatorshows oneortwobars(-100dBmorlower),you shouldconnecttheexternal
antenna.
