not rely on light. The unit can be powered using the power supply provided or using the internal
rechargeable batteries. To get the most out of your device, please read through this manual.

example, search for “WAV to MP3 converters”). Audio must be in MP3 format
Note Regarding Writing Audio from Cell Phones:
• Supplied memory card may not be writable from some cell phones, as phones vary in
card types they support. If writing to supplied card from your cell phone does not work,
use another method or purchase a microSD card that works for your cell phone
•
Some cell phones will leave hidden files on the SD card,
which may impact playback if
not deleted

Adding Audio
Audio must first be transferred to microSD card and then loaded into device
1. Use a PC/notebook that has a memory card slot or a memory card reader to write MP3
audio to the supplied microSD card. Ensure only MP3 files are on card, remove all other files
2. Insert card into the microSD slot of unit. Push card all the way in until you hear a click. To
remove card, push all the way in and it will release
3. Copy audio to internal memory of device (Optional Step)
If size of your audio is less than 4MB, you have the option of transferring the audio to
internal memory of the device and removing the microSD card from the unit. To transfer
audio to internal memory:
1. Turn device off with microSD card inserted
2. Press the “A” button
3. Turn device on and keep holding the “A” button for 6 seconds and then release.
Indictor light will flash to indicate that a data transfer is in progress
4. Once flashing stops, you can remove the microSD card
TIP:
If microSD card is left in device, audio playback will be from card, not internal memory
To playback audio on device manually, use “A” and “B” buttons to traverse tracks
forward and backward
If total size of audio files on microSD card is over 4MB, no audio will be transferred
To record your own voice/personalized messages, there are many free applications that
let you record MP3 audio
This unit is hot-pluggable, meaning it is not required for the unit to be powered off
before inserting or removing the microSD card
Using MAC to write to card? MACs may also leave hidden non-MP3 files, ensure those
are deleted

Mode Selection
MODE 1. Play a single file every time
o With device is on, press button “A” or “B” to traverse audio files until desired track is
selected
o Once desired track is playing, press button “A” until indictor starts flashing
MODE 2. Play multiple files in sequence
o With device on, press button “A” until indictor starts flashing
MODE 3. Play multiple files randomly
o With device on, press buttons “A” and “B” until indictor starts flashing.
TIP for Mode 2:
Sequence of audio played follows the same sequence you used to transfer files to
the microSD card
For example, if you have files called 001.mp3, 002.mp3, and 003.mp3 and you
copy those files to the microSD card in this sequence:
002.mp3
then 003.mp3
then 001.mp3
then playback under mode 2 will be in that same sequence
If you have many files and would like to playback in a particular sequence without
copying one file at a time, see the “Frequency Asked Questions” section.
Once motion is detected and audio is being played, the unit will not interrupt audio playback. It
will keep playing the current file until completion, after which it will wait approximately 2
seconds and start detecting new motion again. For best performance:
o do not put more than 255 files on the memory card or use a card with capacity
greater than 8 GB
o While unit supports up to 32GB cards, larger capacities may increase time
between motion detection and audio playback

Powering the Unit
The unit can be powered directly from an AC outlet using the supplied USB power adapter, or it
can be powered using the internal rechargeable battery. To recharge battery, simply connect
the USB power supply to the unit. Charging time is approximately 4 hours. There is no indictor
to indicate once the battery is fully charged. Once fully charged, the built-in protection circuit
will automatically disconnect charging. When the unit is turned on, it goes through an
initialization process where it may take 10-30 seconds after power up for it to start detecting
motion
If you notice the performance of the unit degrading, such as lower sound volume or it is not
detecting motion, this indicates the battery is low and needs recharging. The factors dictating
how long the unit lasts on a single charge are:
o Activity in the room (how often unit triggers)
o Duration of audio files
o Volume setting selected
When using battery power, the unit will go into low power mode when no motion is detected
to save power. It will automatically wake up when motion is detected. There is a delay of 1s
between detection and sound playback if using internal memory, or 2 seconds if using the
microSD card.
Example Applications
This device has numerous applications:
Promotes Independent Living:
o “Check that you have your keys, wallet, and cell phone before leaving”
o “Turn off oven before leaving”
Door Greeter/Notifier for entrances and storefronts
o Senses people coming in and plays greeting, uses at shops, events, parties
Point of Sale Advertising:
o Place on a shelf, automatically plays advertising material when customers pass
by
Safety Reminder
o Plays a reminder as soon as personnel enter a restricted area
o Use to instruct pets to avoid certain areas when you are away
Exhibits /Trade Shows
o Pre-record material and have it played automatically to visitors at your booth
Security System
o Play audio of your choice as soon as motion is detected

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use my phone to write to the memory card?
Not all phones support all memory cards. If your phone is not able to write to the provided
card, use a card reader or a PC. Alternatively, you can buy a memory card that is supported by
your phone. Note that cell phones often write other non-MP3 files to memory cards
automatically and those may need to be deleted if you are not getting audio playback
Q: I wrote files to the memory card and left the card in but the device is not playing back
audio.
Ensure your memory card only has MP3 files on it and no other files. Any file other than MP3
must be deleted. Also, when formatting the microSD card, ensure it is formatted using FAT32
standard and that the card capacity does not exceed 32GB
Q: When I write to the memory card using a non-Microsoft Windows operating system (such
as MAC), the unit is not playing back audio
Some systems write hidden files to the memory card. Delete all non-MP3 files, including hidden
files
Q: Can this product play WAV audio? If not, what is the solution?
This product only supports MP3 audio but there are plenty of free WAV to MP3 converts
available online
Q: During use, playback gets interrupted then continues to play and this repeats
This is caused by an unstable voltage and indicates that the battery is low. Recharge the battery
Q: After the unit is powered on, there is a period of time where there is no response or
delayed response.
After power on, there will be 10-20 seconds of power initialization time. During this period, it is
normal to have no or slow response. After this time, the unit will work normally
Q: When updating audio from memory card, indictor light keeps flashes for a long time.
This is an indication that the previous audio update did not complete successfully. For example,
the power was turned off or was unstable during the last update, causing the internal memory
to be corrupted. As a result, the unit is running a process to repair internal memory and this
may take a few minutes

Q: How do I delete files?
Every time you write new files to memory, all old files will be deleted from internal memory
Q: I have lots of files and want them to be played in a specific sequence. Can you suggest an
easy way to do this?
Files are played back in the order you wrote them to the memory card. If you have lots of files,
you can use the following technique instead of manually copying files one by one to get the
order you want:
1. Name your files in a consistent way such that your operating system can easily sort
them in the order you want (such as “001.mp3”, “002.mp3”, etc…)
2. Sort files by name on your computer so that the first file you want played is at the top of
the list
3. Select all files
4. With all files still selected, right click on the very first file and select “Send To” and select
the appropriate drive
OR
With all files still selected, right click on the very first file and drag and drop to your
memory card
A Note about MP3:
MP3 is a popular format for sound files and supports different bitrates. As with all MP3 files and
devices, the playback time is dictated by the bitrate of your audio files. Recording programs
often give you the option of selecting which bit rate to use. A recording with a higher bit rate
provides better sound quality but also larger files.
