Atlas™ keypad.
1. PWR/LIGHT (Power & Light) – The PWR key turns the unit on and off and activates the
backlight. To turn on the backlight, press PWR again. Pressing PWR once again will turn off the
backlight. Turn off the unit by pressing and holding the PWR key for 3 seconds.
2. PAGES – Pressing this key switches the unit between the three different page screens
in Easy Mode. (Satellite, Navigation and Map.) Each page represents one of the unit’s major
modes of operation.
3. MENU – Press this key to show the menus, which allow you to select or adjust a feature
from a list.
4. ARROW KEYS – These keys are used to navigate through the menus, make menu
selections, move the chart cursor and enter data.
5. ENT/SAVE (Enter & Save) – This key allows you to save data, accept values or execute
menu commands.
6. EXIT – The Exit key lets you return to the previous screen or clear data.
7. FIND – The Find key launches the Atlas search menus and some navigation functions.
8. ZOUT – (Zoom Out) – This key lets you zoom the screen out to see a larger geographic are
on the map. Less detail is seen as you zoom out.
9. ZIN – (Zoom In) – This key lets you zoom the screen in to see greater detail in a smaller
geographic area on the map.
Find your location
Finding your present location is as easy as turning on the Atlas.
Press PWR(1) and wait for the Atlas to acquire satellites. Once The GPS receiver has calculated
the position from the information received from the satellites, the map will display your current
location with an arrow.
Note! You will have to be outdoor to get in contact with the satellites.
If the Atlas displays any messages, or “Alarms,” simply press EXIT(6). Alarms indicate when
you have acquired or lost satellite signals and may display other messages regarding GPS
function.
Identify locations on Atlas map
To view information about a location on the map (such as a highway exit etc) use the ARROW
(4) keys to move the cross hairs over the location icon. Once you position the cross hairs over
the icon, press ENT(5) and a box will appear on the screen displaying names or symbols for
the location.
Find or Go To a place
To nd a place on the map press FIND(7). The “Find Menu” will appear. From the list select
“Map Places.” You can do so by scrolling down the list using the ARROW keys (4). Press ENT
(5). The next page displays another list of categories. Select the category your place is in and
press ENT(5). Example: For Stockholm, select “Cities.” The Atlas will ask you to “Find By”
Nearest or Name. Select name and press ENT(5). Spell the name of your place by using the
ARROW keys. Once you have entered the correct spelling press ENT(5). Choose the correct
city and state from the list and press ENT(5). The next page gives you the option to “Go To” or
“Find On Map.” To begin navigating to the place select “Go To.” To view the location of the city
on the map select “Find On Map.”
Save a place or location
To save a place or location simply press the ENT(5) key and create to create a home Waypoint.
Select “Yes” and press ENT(5). To save a Waypoint you must be in Advanced Mode. Press
ENT(5) in Advanced mode and use the ARROW key(4) to select “Current Position” or another
location from the menu. You have just saved your position as a Waypoint.
Use Advanced Mode
To put the Atlas in Advanced Mode press MENU(3). The “Main Menu” list will show
“Advanced Mode” as an option on the list. Select it and press ENT(5). A “Warning” message
will appear asking if you are sure. Select “Yes” and you’ll be in Advanced Mode. This mode
allows you to do more technical mapping using waypoints and destinations. Please consult the
Atlas Instruction Manual for further details.
