1. DESCRIPTION
The Sentry ionized air blower produces an airflow that is rich in positive and
negative ions. Directing the airflow on an object that has a static charge will
neutralize the charge. If the object has a positive static charge, it will draw
negative ions from the airflow. If the object has a negative static charge, it will
draw positive ions from the airflow. The ions are attracted to the oppositely
charged object and neutralize the charge on the object.
The Sentry uses a three-speed blower to produce a uniform airflow. The air is
drawn into the unit through slots. The air exits the blower and enters a duct,
which shapes and ionizes the airflow. The ionizer uses a transformer, which
produces high voltage AC. This transformer is inherently current limited for
safety. The transformer output also contains a current limiting resistor, which
provides redundant safety and enhances the ionization stability. The high voltage
AC is applied to a row of stainless steel ion emitters, which results in an intense
alternating electric field at the tip of the emitters. It is this intense electric field
that injects alternating polarity ions into the airflow. The shaped airflow exiting
the Sentry carries these ions over a broad area for static elimination.
The ionizer of the Sentry features a balancing circuit. The balancing circuit works
by isolating the transformer secondary from electrical ground. This results in the
equal production of positive and negative ions. The Sentry also features a built-in
emitter cleaner. Cleaning the emitters on a weekly basis prevents the buildup of
airborne debris to which all electrical ionizers are prone. This keeps your Sentry
working in top form for the life of the unit.
The Sentry is designed for use where static electricity creates problems. The
Sentry is particularly well suited to neutralize charges on three-dimensional
objects such as parts emerging from a molding process. It is also suitable for
neutralization over a large area such as plastic sheet fabrication and forming.
The Sentry blower is designed for superior performance:
• Rapidly neutralizes static charges
• Covers an extended area with ionized air
• Three speed fan with wide range of air flow
• Bench stand mount
• Built-in emitter cleaner
• Durable, electrically grounded steel enclosure
The Sentry is listed by UL and CUL (equivalent to CSA); the 230V Sentry is
marked CE. The system must be properly installed and maintained.

4. INSTALLATION
Electrical Requirements
The Sentry, P/N 4003000, requires 120VAC, 60 Hz for proper operation. The
unit must be grounded for safe operation. Plug the unit into a standard 3-terminal
grounded receptacle.’
The Sentry, P/N 4003143, requires 230VAC, 50 Hz for proper operation. The unit
must be grounded for safe operation. Plug the unit into a standard 2-terminal
double grounded receptacle.
To set the unit up in a bench stand configuration, secure the feet to the mounting
yoke:
1. Place the feet on a table top, with the feet bumpers down.
2. Align the holes at the ends of the yoke with the tapped holes in the feet and
secure with the 1/4-20 pan head screws and lockwashers provided.
3. Hold the Sentry in place, aligning the mounting hole in the yoke with the
threaded bump-out on the unit
4. Install the 3-wing lock knobs and washers on each side and tighten.

Placement
Place the Sentry approximately 1 to 3 feet from the critical work area or objects
to be neutralized.
Position the ionized air stream to cover as much of the critical area as possible
1. Loosen lock knobs on sides of Sentry
2. Adjust the unit on its stand
3. Tighten the lock knobs to secure.
5. OPERATION
1. Activate the Sentry by setting the power switch to the on ( __ ) position.
2. Set the air flow as desired by adjusting the fan speed
a. low ( __ )
b. medium ( ___ ___ )
c. high ( ___ ___ ___ )
The Sentry produces an ionized air stream that covers a large area uniformly.
The time required to neutralize a static charge on an item in this area depends
on many factors. Two important factors are: distance to the ionizer and air
velocity. Air ions constantly “neutralize” each other. Positive and negative
ions are electrostatically attracted to each other. When they contact, the charge
transfers and the ions recombine. With high air velocity, the ions travel further
before they recombine. Setting the fan speed to high, results in coverage for the
greatest possible area. For fast neutralizing, the item should be within 2 to 3 feet
of the unit. For virtually instantaneous neutralizing, the item may be as close as
6 inches.

6. MAINTENANCE
The Sentry has been designed with low maintenance in mind. The only regular
maintenance suggested is emitter cleaning and air filter cleaning. Emitter cleaning
takes only seconds with our cleaner. This assures you of continued performance
of ion output.
The ion emitters of the Sentry, as any other electrical ionizer, tend to accumulate
deposits of dust and dirt. Dirty electrodes reduce the ion output and should be
cleaned. To clean the ion emitters:
1. Grasp the emitter cleaner between thumb and forefinger.
2. Sweep back and forth across the ionized air outlet.
Recommended frequency of cleaning is once a week.
The ionized air outlet should remain clean to prevent restriction of airflow. It can
be cleaned with a soft brush or vacuum
Ion Output Check
A Simco-Ion fieldmeter may be used to check the ion output using the following
procedure:
1. Take a piece of plastic and rub it with a cloth until a static charge can be read
with the fieldmeter.
2. Hold the plastic one foot away from the ionized air outlet for five seconds.
3. Remove the plastic from the ionized air stream and measure the static charge.
The plastic should be neutralized.

10
AEROSTAT SENTRY 5100600 Rev. H
If no instrumentation is available, the unit’s operation can be verified with the
following procedure:
1. Tear off about a 10 inch length of transparent tape. You will note that the tape
is charged and will easily attract to a nearby surface, such as a wall, when
held vertically approximately 1inch from the surface.
2. Pass the tape through the ionized air approximately 1 foot from the ionizer
and again approach the surface with the tape. If it has been neutralized, it will
not attract.
NOTE – When performing this procedure, do not use a plastic surface such
as acrylic as the surface itself may be charged and attract the tape. A “safe”
surface would be a metal leg or drawer front on a workbench.
Do not try to determine the unit’s operation by the “spark test”. The design
of the balancing circuit makes the “spark Test” inconclusive. Sustained
grounding of the ion emitters may damage the balancing circuit.
Calibration
The Sentry’s ion output is inherently balanced by design. As a result, there are no
calibration adjustments
