2 Safety
2.1 Intended Use
The SMA Data Manager M is a data logger that acts as a system gateway and energy manager.
PV system components and PV systems are integrated together with energy generators and loads
into the SMA infrastructure and I/O systems and meters via the Ethernet interface. In the process,
the SMA Data Manager M is supporting communication with up to 50 devices such as PV
inverters, battery inverters, energy meters and I/O systems.
The product is designed for indoor use only.
All components must remain within their permitted operating ranges and their installation
requirements at all times.
Use this product only in accordance with the information provided in the enclosed documentation
and with the locally applicable laws, regulations, standards and directives. Any other application
may cause personal injury or property damage.
Alterations to the product, e.g. changes or modifications, are only permitted with the express written
permission of SMA Solar Technology AG. Unauthorized alterations will void guarantee and
warranty claims and in most cases terminate the operating license. SMA Solar Technology AG
shall not be held liable for any damage caused by such changes.
Any use of the product other than that described in the Intended Use section does not qualify as the
intended use.
The enclosed documentation is an integral part of this product. Keep the documentation in a
convenient place for future reference and observe all instructions contained therein.

WARNING
Danger to life due to electric shock
Under fault conditions, when working on the power supply circuit there may be dangerous
voltages present on the product.
• With permanently connected power supply units, ensure that there is a disconnection unit
(e.g. circuit breaker) present outside of the power supply unit.
• With pluggable power supply units, ensure that the outlet for the power supply unit is close
to the power supply unit.
• The disconnect unit and the outlet for the power supply unit must be freely accessible at all
times.
WARNING
Danger of fire due to incorrect installation
• Have the product mounted, installed and commissioned only by qualified persons with the
appropriate skills.
• Never open the product.
CAUTION
Damage due to electromagnetic radiation
This product
• Persons must not remain closer than 20 cm to the product for long periods of time.

The product is not splash-proof. Moisture can penetrate the product and damage it.
• Only use the product in a dry, indoor environment.

If the product is moved from a cold environment to a warm environment, condensation may form
in the product.
• When there is a large temperature difference, wait for the product to reach room
temperature before connecting to the voltage supply.
• Make sure the product is dry.

NOTICE
Manipulation of PV system data in Ethernet networks
You can connect the supported SMA products to the Internet. When connected to the Internet,
there is a risk that unauthorized users can access and manipulate the data of your PV system.
• Set up a firewall.
• Close unnecessary network ports.
• If absolutely necessary, only enable remote access via a virtual private network (VPN).
• Do not set up port forwarding at the used Modbus ports.
DHCP Server is recommended.
The DCHP server automatically assigns the appropriate network settings to your nodes in the
local network. A manual network configuration is therefore not necessary. In a local network,
the Internet router is usually the DHCP server. If the IP addresses in the local network are to be
assigned dynamically, DHCP must be activated in the Internet router (see the Internet router
manual).
In networks where no DHCP server is active, proper IP addresses must be assigned from the
free address pool of the network segment to all network participants to be integrated during
commissioning.
Electrical installations (for North America)
All installations must conform with the laws, regulations, codes and standards applicable in the
jurisdiction of installation (e.g. National Electrical Code® ANSI/NFPA 70 or Canadian
Electrical Code® CSA-C22.1.).
• Before connecting the inverter to the utility grid, contact your local grid operator. The
electrical connection of the inverter must be carried out by qualified persons only.
• Ensure that the cables or conductors used for electrical connection are not damaged.

2.1 Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Der SMA Data Manager M ist ein Datenlogger, der die Funktion eines Anlagengateways sowie
die Funktion eines Energiemanagers übernimmt. Über den SMA Data Manager M werden PV-
Anlagenteile und -Systeme mit Energieerzeugern und -Verbrauchern, I/O-Systeme und Zähler über
die Ethernet-Schnittstelle in die SMA Infrastruktur integriert. Dabei unterstützt der SMA Data
Manager M die Kommunikation mit bis zu 50 Geräten wie PV-Wechselrichter, Batterie-
Wechselrichter, Energiezähler und I/O-Systeme.
Das Produkt ist ausschließlich für den Einsatz im Innenbereich geeignet.
Der erlaubte Betriebsbereich und die Installationsanforderungen aller Komponenten müssen
jederzeit eingehalten werden.
Setzen Sie das Produkt ausschließlich nach den Angaben der beigefügten Dokumentationen und
gemäß der vor Ort gültigen Gesetze, Bestimmungen, Vorschriften und Normen ein. Ein anderer
Einsatz kann zu Personen- oder Sachschäden führen.
Eingriffe in das Produkt, z. B. Veränderungen und Umbauten, sind nur mit ausdrücklicher
schriftlicher Genehmigung von SMA Solar Technology AG gestattet. Nicht autorisierte Eingriffe

WARNUNG
Lebensgefahr durch Stromschlag
Bei Arbeiten am Versorgungsstromkreis können im Fehlerfall gefährliche Spannungen am Produkt
anliegen.
• Bei Netzteilen mit Festanschluss sicherstellen, dass eine Trenneinrichtung (z. B.
Leitungsschutzschalter) außerhalb des Netzteils vorhanden ist.
• Bei Netzteilen mit Steckanschluss sicherstellen, dass sich die Steckdose für das Netzteil in
der Nähe des Netzteils befindet.
• Die Trenneinrichtung und die Steckdose für das Netzteil müssen jederzeit leicht zugänglich
sein.
WARNUNG
Brandgefahr durch fehlerhafte Installation
• Das Produkt ausschließlich von Fachkräften mit entsprechender Qualifikation montieren,
installieren und in Betrieb nehmen lassen.
• Das Produkt nie öffnen.
VORSICHT
Gefahr durch elektromagnetische Strahlung
Dieses Produkt sendet im Betrieb elektromagnetische Strahlung aus, die den Betrieb anderer
Geräte und aktiver Körperhilfsmittel (z.B. Herzschrittmacher) beeinträchtigen kann.
• Personen dürfen sich nicht dauerhaft näher als 20cm zum Produkt aufhalten.
ACHTUNG
Beschädigung des Produkts durch Feuchtigkeit
Das Produkt ist nicht spritzwassergeschützt. Dadurch kann Feuchtigkeit eindringen und das
Produkt beschädigen.
• Das Produkt nur im Innenbereich in trockener Umgebung verwenden.
ACHTUNG
Beschädigung des Produkts durch Kondenswasser
Wenn das Produkt von einer kalten Umgebung in eine warme Umgebung gebracht wird, kann
sich im Produkt Kondenswasser bilden.
• Bei großen Temperaturunterschieden mit dem Anschluss der Spannungsversorgung warten,
bis das Produkt Raumtemperatur erreicht hat.
• Sicherstellen, dass das Produkt trocken ist.

ACHTUNG
Manipulation von PV-Anlagendaten in Ethernet-Netzwerken
Sie können die unterstützten SMA Produkte mit dem Internet verbinden. Bei einer aktiven
Internetverbindung besteht das Risiko, dass unberechtigte Nutzer auf die Daten Ihrer PV-Anlage
zugreifen und diese manipulieren.
• Firewall einrichten.
• Nicht benötigte Netzwerk-Ports schließen.
• Wenn unbedingt erforderlich, Fernzugriff nur über ein Virtuelles Privates Netzwerk (VPN)
ermöglichen.
• Keine Portweiterleitung auf den verwendeten Modbus-Ports einrichten.
DHCP-Server empfohlen
Der DHCP-Server weist den Netzwerkteilnehmern im lokalen Netzwerk automatisch die
passenden Netzwerkeinstellungen zu. Dadurch ist keine manuelle Netzwerkkonfiguration
mehr erforderlich. In einem lokalen Netzwerk dient üblicherweise der Internet-Router als
DHCP-Server. Wenn die IP-Adressen im lokalen Netzwerk dynamisch vergeben werden sollen,
muss am Internet-Router DHCP aktiviert sein (siehe Anleitung des Internet-Routers).
In Netzwerken in denen kein DHCP-Server aktiv ist, müssen während der Erstinbetriebnahme
geeignete IP-Adressen aus dem freien Adressvorrat des Netzsegments an alle einzubindenden
Netzwerkteilnehmer vergeben werden.
Elektrische Installationen (für Nord-Amerika)
Die Installation muss entsprechend der vor Ort geltenden Gesetze, Bestimmungen, Vorschriften
und Normen (z. B. National Electrical Code® ANSI/NFPA 70 oder Canadian Electrical
Code® CSA-C22.1.) durchgeführt werden.
• Vor dem elektrischen Anschluss des Wechselrichters an das öffentliche Stromnetz wenden
Sie sich an Ihren Netzbetreiber vor Ort. Der elektrische Anschluss des Wechselrichters
darf ausschließlich von Fachkräften durchgeführt werden.
• Sicherstellen, dass die Kabel oder Leiter für den elektrischen Anschluss unbeschädigt sind.

2.1 Uso previsto
El SMA Data Manager M es un registrador de datos que asume la función de una pasarela de
planta así como la función de un gestor energético. A través del SMA Data Manager M se
integran equipos de plantas fotovoltaicas y plantas con generadores de energía y equipos
consumidores, sistemas de entrada/salida y contadores a través de la interfaz Ethernet en la
infraestructura de SMA. En este proceso, el SMA Data Manager M soporta la comunicación con
hasta 50 equipos como inversores fotovoltaicos, inversores de batería, contadores de energía y
sistemas I/O.
El producto es apto únicamente para su uso en interiores.
Deben respetarse en todo momento el rango de funcionamiento admisible y los requisitos de
instalación de todos los componentes.
Utilice siempre el producto de acuerdo con las indicaciones de la documentación adjunta y
observe las leyes, reglamentos, reglas y normas vigentes. Cualquier otro uso puede causarle
lesiones al usuario o daños materiales.
Para realizar cualquier intervención en el producto, como modificaciones o remodelaciones,
deberá contar con el permiso expreso y por escrito de SMA Solar Technology AG. Los cambios no
autorizados conllevan la pérdida de los derechos de garantía, así como la extinción de la
autorización de operación. Queda excluida la responsabilidad de SMA Solar Technology AG por
los daños derivados de dichos cambios.
Cualquier uso del producto distinto al descrito en el uso previsto se considerará inadecuado.
La documentación adjunta es parte integrante del producto. La documentación debe leerse,
observarse y guardarse en un lugar accesible en todo momento.

2.2 Indicaciones importantes para la seguridad
Conservar instrucciones
Este capítulo contiene indicaciones de seguridad que deben observarse siempre en todos los
trabajos que se realizan en el producto y con el producto.
Este producto se ha construido en cumplimiento de los requisitos internacionales relativos a la
seguridad. A pesar de estar cuidadosamente construidos, existe un riesgo residual como con todos
los equipos eléctricos. Para evitar daños personales y materiales y garantizar el funcionamiento
permanente del producto, lea detenidamente este capítulo y cumpla siempre las indicaciones de
seguridad.

ADVERTENCIA
Peligro de muerte por descarga eléctrica
Durante los trabajos en el circuito eléctrico de alimentación, en caso de error pueden acoplarse
tensiones peligrosas al producto.
• En fuentes de alimentación con conexión fija, asegúrese de disponer de un seccionador (p.
ej. un disyuntor) fuera de la fuente de alimentación.
• En fuentes de alimentación con conexión fija, asegúrese de que la toma de pared para la
fuente de alimentación se encuentre cerca de esta.
• Para la fuente de alimentación, el seccionador y la toma de pared deben ser de fácil
acceso en todo momento.
ADVERTENCIA
Peligro de incendio a causa de una instalación defectuosa
• Encargue el montaje, la instalación y la puesta en marcha del producto únicamente a
especialistas con la cualificación adecuada.
• Nunca abra el producto.
ATENCIÓN
Peligro por radiación electromagnética
Este producto emite radiación electromagnética que puede perturbar el funcionamiento de otros
aparatos y de dispositivos auxiliares del cuerpo (p. ej. marcapasos).
• Las personas no deben permanecer prolongadamente a menos de 20 cm del producto.
PRECAUCIÓN
Daños en el producto debido a la penetración de humedad
El producto no está protegido contra las salpicaduras de agua. Podría penetrar humedad y
dañar el producto.
• Utilice el producto solamente en interiores y en entornos secos.
PRECAUCIÓN
Daños en el producto por agua de condensación
Cuando se traslada el producto de un entorno frío a otro más cálido, puede formarse agua de
condensación en el producto.
• En caso de grandes diferencias de temperatura, espere a que el producto se aclimate a la
temperatura ambiente antes de conectar el suministro de tensión.
• Asegúrese de que el producto está seco.

PRECAUCIÓN
Manipulación de datos de plantas fotovoltaicas en redes Ethernet
Puede conectar a Internet los productos SMA compatibles. Con una conexión a Internet activa
existe el riesgo de que usuarios no autorizados accedan a los datos de su planta fotovoltaica y
los manipulen.
• Instalar un cortafuegos.
• Cerrar los puertos de red que no se necesiten.
• Si fuera indispensable, permitir el acceso remoto únicamente a través de una red privada
virtual (VPN).
• No crear reenvíos de puertos en los puertos Modbus utilizados.
Se recomienda el servidor DHCP
El servidor DHCP asigna automáticamente los ajustes de red a los integrantes de la red local.
De esta manera, la configuración manual de la red ya no es necesaria. Normalmente, en una
red local, el rúter de Internet es el servidor DHCP. Si las direccionesIP deben asignarse en la
red local dinámicamente, en el rúter de Internet debe estar activada la función DHCP
(consulte las instrucciones del rúter de Internet).
En las redes en las que no hay ningún servidor DHCP activo, deben asignarse durante la
primera puesta en servicio direcciones IP adecuadas del conjunto de direcciones libres
disponibles del segmento de red a todos los miembros de la red que se deben integrar.
Instalaciones eléctricas (válido para América del Norte)
La instalación debe llevarse a cabo de conformidad con la legislación, las disposiciones, los
reglamentos y las normas vigentes en el lugar (p.ej. National Electrical Code® ANSI/NFPA
70 o Canadian Electrical Code® CSA-C22.1.).
• Antes de realizar la conexión eléctrica del inversor a la red pública, póngase en
contacto con su operador de red en el lugar. La conexión eléctrica del inversor
únicamente puede realizarla personal especializado.
• Es necesario asegurarse de que los cables o conductores utilizados en la conexión
eléctrica no estén dañados.
