WARNING
lFailure to follow the installation instructions shipped with your SMARTTable®
collaborative learning center could result in personal injury and product damage.
lEnsure that any cables extending across the floor to your SMART product are properly
bundled and marked to prevent a trip hazard.
lMake sure an electrical socket is near your SMART product and remains easily
accessible during use.
lIf you are using casters, lock the casters before allowing children to use your table.
lDo not climb (or allow children to climb) on your table. Climbing on your table could result
in personal injury and product damage.
lTo reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose your SMART product to rain or
moisture.
lUnless you are following instructions in the SMARTTable textless installation guide or
installing a field replacement unit, do not attempt to service the table. Only an authorized
service provider should provide service.
lDo not remove any screws other than those specified in the SMARTTable textless
installation guide or field replacement instructions.

C A U T I ON
lDisconnect the power cable only after you turn off the table as documented in this guide
and the indicator lights and fans turn off. Disconnecting the power cable at any other time
could result in damage to the table.
lDo not place cords, boxes or other items on the surface of your table. Doing so can
scratch the surface.
lIf your SMART product becomes wet, dry it completely before turning it on.
I M P OR T A N T
lDo not operate your table in environments that are higher than 10,000' (3,000 m) above
sea level.
lYour table’s surface does not respond to touch until the computer completes its start-up
process. Wait 30 to 60 seconds after you turn on your table before you touch the surface.
lBefore you clean your table, turn it off so that you do not inadvertently start applications
when you wipe the surface.
lDo not place keyboards, mouse devices or other objects on the touch surface. The
cameras may interpret these objects as touches if they are placed on the touch surface.
lElectrical and electronic equipment and batteries contain substances that can
be harmful to the environment and to human health. The crossed-out wheeled
bin symbol indicates that products should be disposed of in the appropriate
recycling stream and not as regular waste.
lThis product contains a lithium button cell battery in the computer (perchlorate material—
special handling may apply).

Aboutyour SMART Table
Your SMART Tablecollaborative learningcenterhas a
touch-sensitive surface. By touchingthesurface, students can
create, select, moveand resize digital objects. Morethanone
student cantouchthesurfaceat atime. This encourages
collaborationand cooperationas students learnandplay together.
Usinga Wi-Fi® network connectiontoa computerwith
SMART Sync™ classroom management software, teachers can
observe students’ tabletopactivities from adistance, takecontrol of the table, andcaptureandprint
thetabletopimage.

SMART Tablesoftwareincludes interactiveapplications, learningactivities andeducationalgames.
Youcanalsodownloadany of theSMART Tableactivity packs available on the SMART Exchange™
website (exchange.smarttech.com) directly tothetable.
NOTE
Uptofiveactivity packs canbedownloadedat thesametime.
Using theSMART TableToolkit youcandownloadactivity packsandapplicationsandcustomizethe
activities. Install andrunthetoolkit onyourcomputerandthen transferyour activity packs usinga
USB drive orSMART Sync software.
Youcanuse yourtablewithother SMART products, includingtheSMART Document Camera™and
SMART Notebook™collaborative learningsoftware, as part of anoverall learningsolution. For
example, youcanintroduceanew concept tostudents ona SMART Board® interactivewhiteboard,
andthenask thestudents toexploretheideaindetail usingtheSMART Tablecollaborativelearning
center.
How your SMART Table works
Yourtablecontains fourmaincomponents:

Cameras
Thecomputerruns theSMART Tablesoftware, theLCD displays thecomputer’s display inthe
tabletop, thespeakers play thecomputer’s audioand thecameras detect students’ touch onthe
surface. Combined, thesecomponents enablestudents to interact with SMART Tablesoftware.
Thecomputer, speakers andcameras areinsidethetable.
Yourtableuses technologybasedonDViT® (Digital Vision Touch)technology todetect multiple
students’ touches. Other SMART products use DViT technology, includingsome SMART Board
interactivewhiteboards, SMART Boardinteractiveflat panels andSMART Podium™interactivepen
displays.

Using your SMART Table with other SMART
products
The SMART Tablecollaborative learningcentercomplements several SMART products, including
SMART Boardinteractivewhiteboards, SMART Sync softwareandSMART Document Cameras.
Youcaneasily transferfiles from yourcomputer directly to theSMART Table using SMART Sync
softwareoraUSB drive. Youcanconnect a SMART Document Cameradirectly tothetable,
enablingstudents tocaptureimages inreal-timeandtoexplorethem onthetable’s surface.
Thereis anoptionalpowercable (Part No. ST-DCC)that canbeusedtopowertheSMART
Document Camerafrom thetable. This cableruns directly from thedocument cameratothetable and
prevents trippinghazards. Whenthis cableis connected, thetable powers thedocument camera.
This cableis usedin conjunctionwith theUSB cablethat ships with your SMART document camera,
whichalsoruns directly from thedocument camerato thetable.
Optional casters (Part No. ST-CSTR) arealsoavailable.

TurningonyourSMARTTable
To turn on your table
1. Connect thepowercable to anoutlet.
2. PushthePower buttononthesideof your table.
Thetable’s computerand LCD turnon. Thecomputercompletes its start-upprocess,andthe
SMART TableActivities menuappears.
IMPORTANT
Avoidtouchingthetablesurfaceuntil thetable starts upandanimageappears. Becausethe
tableis touch-sensitive, eventhoughyoucannot seeanimage, youcouldunintentionally
disrupt thestart-upprocess orstart activities.

CAUTION
If youpress thePower buttonformorethan30seconds, youcould losedataordamagethe
computer.
Thefollowing procedureshows thecorrect way toturnoff your table.
To turn off your table
1. From theSMART TableActivities menu, press the buttoninthecorner.
If your table is set uptorespond to input from morethanonestudent, the buttonmoves to
anothercorner.
Repeat step1foreach student youset upyour tablefor.
2. A messageappears, thetablewillbeginshuttingdown in30seconds.
TIP
Press Cancelif youaccidentally press the button.
Using SMART Table software
SMART TableActivities starts automatically whenyouturnonthetable. TheSMART Table
Activities menuhas twomodes: StudentandTeacher.
Studentmode
Student modeis thedefault mode. It enables students tolaunch activities designedspecifically for
students in early primary grades.

Teachermode
Teachermodeappears when youconnect aUSB drive tooneof theUSB receptacles onthesideof
yourtable. This modeenables youtoset thenumberof students, calibrate thesurface, synchronize
andchooseactivity packsandapplications, andcomplete otherconfigurationtasks as documented
inthis guide.

SwitchingmodeswithoutinsertingaUSBdrive
Youcanalso switch from Student modetoTeachermodewithout insertingaUSB drive.
To switch from Student mode to Teacher mode without a USB drive
1. Holddownfive fingers onthecenterof thetable.
Afterapproximately 10seconds, theCogwheeliconappears inonecornerof thetable.
2. Whilecontinuingtohold downyourfingers onthecenterof thetable, press theCog wheel
iconwith your otherhand.
Themenuswitches to Teachermode.
3. Press theCog wheelicontoreturnto Student mode.

Connecting your SMART Table to the Internet
This sectionprovides informationonconnectingyour table totheInternet througha wiredlocal area
network orwireless local areanetwork. Connectingyour table totheInternetenables youtodownload
SMART Tableactivity packs from the SMART Exchangewebsitedirectly onto yourtable. It also
enables students toaccess theInternet from aSMART Notebook filewithanembeddedbrowser.
IMPORTANT
SMART recommends that virus protectionsoftwarebeinstalledontables connectedtothe
Internet. Consult yoursystem administratorformoreinformationonobtainingvirus protection
softwareforyour table.

table, seetheSMART Tablesoftwareand SMART TableToolkit user’s guide
(smarttech.com/kb/170414).
NOTE
If you’reunabletoconnect yourtabletotheInternet aftercompletingthefollowingprocedures (for
example, if a firewall orpasswordrequirement is blockingaccess), consult yoursystem
administrator.
To connect your table to a wireless local area network
1. Turnonyourtable.
The SMART TableActivities menuappears.
2. Connect yourUSB drive toyourtable.
OR
Follow theprocedureinSwitchingmodes without inserting aUSB drive onthepreviouspage.
Themenuchanges from Student modetoTeachermode.
3. Press ,andthen press OK.
TheSMART TableActivities menucloses.
4. Connect akeyboardand mousetoyour table.
NOTE
Youcanconnect any keyboardand mousethathave USB connectors toany of theUSB
receptacles onthesideof thetable.

Using your SMART DocumentCamera with your
SMART Table
Withyourdocument cameraconnectedto yourtable, youcancaptureimages directly from the
document cameraontothetable’s screenwhen usingapplications that support this functionality.
The version of SMART Notebook softwarethat’s installedonyourtableis 3D-enabled, soyoucan
usetheMixedReality Tools forSMART Document Camera.
Youcanuse thedocument camera's zoom featurefrom thecontrol panel onthe table’s display. Refer
to your SMART Document Camerauser’s guideformoreinformation.
To connect yourdocument camera to your table
1. Verify that yourtableis onandinStudent mode.
2. Connect theUSB cable’s USB B plugto yourdocument camera, andthen connect theUSB A
plugto one of theUSB receptacles onthesideof thetable.
NOTE
Thereis anoptionalpowercable(Part No. ST-DCC)that canbeusedto powertheSMART
Document Camerafrom thetable. This cable runs directly from thedocument cameratothe
tableandprevents trippinghazards. Whenthis cableis connected, thetable powers the
document camera. This cable is usedinconjunction withtheUSB cablethat ships withyour
SMART document camera, whichalso runs directly from thedocument cameratothetable.

Cleaning your SMART Table
Useanalcohol-freehouseholdglass cleaner, suchas Windex® glass cleaner, toclean thesurfaceat
regularintervals.
NOTE
Beforeyouclean your SMART Table, turnit off so youdon’t inadvertently start applications when
