Forone (1) year from the date of purchase, ifthe portablespreader is maintainedaccording tothe
instructions inthe owner'smanual,Solowillrepair or replace, free of charge, any parts found tobe defective
in material or workmanship.
This warranty does not coverrepairsnecessarybecause of operatorabuse,negligence,improper
storage,accident,normalwear or failure to maintain the equipmentaccording tothe instructionscontained in
the owner's manual.
Warranty service is available by returning the spreader toa Soloservicecenter.Thiswarrantygives
you specificlegal rights, andyoumay also have other rights which may varyfrom state to state.

TRAINING
Read
the owner'smanual carefully. Becomefamiliarwith the controls and know howto operateyourspreader.
• Donot allowchildren touse yourspreader.Neverallowadults tousethe spreaderwithoutproperinstructions.
• Donot bend atthe waist.Bendonly atthe knees and supportyourself as required to ensurepersonalsafety.
• Keep the treatmentareaclear of people and pets,especiallysmallchildren.
• Use spreader only as described in thismanual.
• Donot operatespreader ifithas been dropped or damaged inany manner.Alwayshavedamagerepaired
before use.
• Donotuse accessor.' attachmentsthat arenot recommended bythe manufacturer. Useof suchattachments
may be hazardous.
PREPARATION AND SAFETY
Always wearsafetyglasses oreye shieldswhenusingyourspreader.
• Dressproperly.Wearonlyclosedshoeswithgoodtraction. Donot operatespreaderwhenbarefoot or wearing
opensandals.
• Wearlong-sleevedclothesthat are snugfitting.Avoidwearinglooseclothing.
• Weareithertightly cuffed or cuffless pants.
• Wearnon-slipglovesduringoperation.Wear a respirator if appropriate for typematerialbeingspread.
• Longhairshould be tiedback and keptaway from the spreader.
• Makedirectionaladjustmentsbeforeusing the spreader.
• Use only in daylight or good artificial light.
• Read all instructions ofthe chemicalmanufacturer.

• Keep your eyes and mind onthejobat hand. Donot becomedistracted.

MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
• Check all bolts,nuts, and screws at frequent intervals for propertightness tobe sure the spreader isin safe
workingcondition.
• Keep all safetydevices in place and working.

• Follow a regularschedule in maintaining, caring and usingyourspreader.
• Follow the instructionsunder the Maintenance and Storagesections of thismanual.

Assembly
YourSolo 42IS spreaderneeds to have the carrystrap andthe crankhandleattachedbeforeoperation.
Remove the hopperlid. The crankhandle and carrystrap are locatedinside.
Mounting
the CrankHandle
• Place the spreader onits rightside (as viewed from operator'sposition),
figure A.
• Find the threadedcrankshaft and affix the crankhandle ina clockwise
motion, tighten the jambnutagainst
the crankhandle.
CarryStrap
• Stand the spreaderupright at aboutwaistlevel ona table,bench or stand.
• Adjust the strap toits longestreach.
• Attach the straphook tothetop right eyeonthe spreader (as viewed from
operator'sposition).Figure A.
• With the back ofthe spreader facing yourchest,slipstrapoveryourrightshoulder and acrossyourback.
• Set straphookunderspreaderhousing, see figure B.
• With the spreaderproperly fitted, crank the handle and determine ifthe spreader issetata comfortable
height.Remove the spreader, adjust the strap andtry againuntil youare comfortablewith fitand function.
Lubrication Point
• With the spreader onits rightside(crankhandleside),observe the small oil hole inthe gearcase.
• Adda few drops of light oil every four hours of operation,figure C.

Adjusting the Spreader
Yourspreader is adjustable for bothvolume and direction.Four
factors determine the volume and direction.Theyare:
FlowLimiter Stop - This brass locking knob allows youtosetthe
hopperopening toa fixed position for consistentdelivery of material
tothe propeller.
FlowRateLever - Lookdowninto the hopper to observe howthe
dropchuteopeningvaries asyou adjust the flowrate lever.
DirectionalLever
- Thiscontroladjusts the pointwhere the material
istobe deposited onthe impeller and consequently, the width of
spread. A labelindicateswhere the lever canbesetfor center,
left orright spreading, figure D.
DeflectorShield - Increases or decreases the width of spread, figure E.
Cranking Speed - Crankingfaster or slower affects volume
and coverage.

PellitizedFertillizer is usuallythrownabout10-12 feet in front ofthe operator and5-7 feet on each
side at 55-60 rpm. Grass seedusuallycarries 5-7 feetfoward and4-5 feet tothe side. A walking speed of2.5
to3 feet per second is suggested.
Pleasetest the product youare spreading to achieve the manufacturer'srecommendedcoverage.

Filling the Hopper
Move
flow ratelever to zeroposition.
Set spreader ona flat surface.
Removehopperlid.
Fill hopper. Forthe initial useitis wise to partly fill the hopper and practicespreading and making
adjustments.
Replace hopper lid- thelid preventsspillage and helpskeepdust and othermaterialaway from the operator.
When spreadingchemicals be sure to wearprotectiveclothing,respirator andeye protection.
Do not loadhopperwhilecarryingspreader.
OpreatingInstructions
Set spreader ona surface to safely and conveniently fitthe carrystrap as outlined in assemblysection.
Set deflector to desiredposition.
Adjust spreadingdirectionlever tothe desiredposition. Directional changes can also be made simply by
walking inthe desireddirection.
Whileturning the crankhandlewithyourrighthand,move the flow rateleverwith the left hand to adjust
flow rate.Flowlimiterstopwillcontrol flow rate.Caution:Keephandaway from rotatingimpeller.
After use,turn the flowratelever tothe closed(zero)position.Crank the handleseveraltimes to makesure
no materialresidue is attached to impeller.Clean the wholeunitthoroughlyusingsoap and water.
OtherOperating
Suggetions
Walking speed:2.5-3.0 feet per second.
Crankhandlespeed:55-65 rpm.
Each completerevolution ofthe crankhandlecauses the impeller to rotate 7fi turns.
In windyconditions,planyourwork sothe wind is behind youif possible.
Storage
Empty hopper of contents.Store or dispose of contentsproperly andin accordancewith the chemical manu
facturer's instructions.
Check all bolts,nuts and screws for propertightness.
Cleanunitwithsoap and water.
Dry.
Store in safe place.
