NOTES ON CHIP COMPONENT REPLACEMENT
• Never reuse a disconnected chip component.
• Notice that the minus side of a tantalum capacitor may be dam-
aged by heat.
FLEXIBLE CIRCUIT BOARD REPAIRING
• Keep the temperature of soldering iron around 270 °C during
repairing.
• Do not touch the soldering iron on the same conductor of the
circuit board (within 3 times).
• Be careful not to apply force on the conductor when soldering
or unsoldering.

SECTION 1
SERVICING NOTES
UNLEADED SOLDER
Boards requiring use of unleaded solder are printed with the lead-
free mark (LF) indicating the solder contains no lead.
(Caution: Some printed circuit boards may not come printed with
the lead free mark due to their particular size)
: LEAD FREE MARK
Unleaded solder has the following characteristics.
• Unleaded solder melts at a temperature about 40 °C higher
than ordinary solder.
Ordinary soldering irons can be used but the iron tip has to be
applied to the solder joint for a slightly longer time.
Soldering irons using a temperature regulator should be set to
about 350 °C.
Caution: The printed pattern (copper foil) may peel away if
the heated tip is applied for too long, so be careful!
• Strong viscosity
Unleaded solder is more viscous (sticky, less prone to flow)
than ordinary solder so use caution not to let solder bridges
occur such as on IC pins, etc.
• Usable with ordinary solder
It is best to use only unleaded solder but unleaded solder may
also be added to ordinary solder.
NOTE OF CHECKING THE TEST MODE
Program data for test mode and special USB cable for test mode is
necessary to confirm the test mode.
Confirm the method of obtaining the program data for test mode to
each service headquarters.
Use the Part No. J-2502-111-1 for special USB cable for test
mode.
NOTE OF REPLACING THE MAIN BOARD
Necessarily execute following work when you exchange the
MAIN board.
• Shipment setting (Ship): 10-2. Shipment Setting (Ship) (refer
to page 12)
• Calibration: 10-4-4. Touch panel (refer to page 14)
• Writing work of data: Confirm details to each service head-
quarters.
NOTE OF REPLACING THE TOUCH PANEL
(TPS5001)
Necessarily execute the calibration when replacing touch panel
(TPS5001). Refer to test mode “10-4-4. Touch panel” (page 14)
for the calibration.
NOTE OF REPLACING THE PARTS
IC0102, IC0105, IC0119, IC1001, IC1502, IC1503, IC1504,
IC2001, IC3002, IC3003, IC3501 and IC4505 on the MAIN board
cannot exchange with single. When these parts on the MAIN board
are damaged, exchange the entire mounted board.
NOTE OF REPLACING THE CSP (CHIP SIZE PACK-
AGE) IC
Replacing of IC3504 on the MAIN board used in this set requires
a special tool.

The MAIN board is attached with multiple shield plates.
For electrical check or replacement of mounted parts,
the shield plates must be removed and the frame of terminal board must be cut off.
Even if the frame of terminal board is cut off, the performance is not impaired.

Insert tweezers into a gap between MAIN board and
shield plate, and unlock the shield plate and raise it.
Cut the notch with nippers to cut off the frame.

Note
Clean the surface of the suction cup with a soft, damp, lint-free cloth if it becomes dirty
and attachment strength weakens. Be sure to dry the suction cup before reattaching.
To install on the windshield
Rotate the suction cup before attaching.
Any other procedure is the same as for installing on the dashboard.
1Open the built-in GPS antenna.
2Insert the unit rmly into the cradle until it clicks into place.

3Adjust the monitor angle for optimal viewing.
Connect the unit to the cigarette
lighter socket with the supplied car
battery adapter.

Follow the instructions below to avoid damaging the surface of the suction cup.
1Turn the lever clockwise to unlock
the cradle.

from surface.

TEST MODE
1. PREPARATION OF THE SERVICE MODE
Prepare the following before confirming the service mode.
• Memory Stick Duo (128 MB or more)
2. OUTLINE OF THE SERVICE MODE
Necessary following function can be used by service by executing
the service mode.
1. System History
2. Exception History
3. System Version
4. Map Version
5. Status Indication
3. SETTING THE SERVICE MODE
Procedure:
1. “NAVU” folder is made for Memory Stick Duo.
2. “SERVICE_MODE.TXT” file is made for the above-men-
tioned folder.
3. Above-mentioned Memory Stick Duo is inserted in the main
unit, and it is started.
4. The button on the screen is displayed to touch in order of
“MENU” →“ ” →“General” →“V” →“V” →“V”
→“V” →“V” →“Service Mode” →“Service Mode” to the
screen like the figure below.
4. OPERATION OF THE SERVICE MODE
Service mode is operated by touching the screen.
4-1. System History
STATE DATE : After the system initial starts, the
time measured with GPS is displayed.
(UTC)
ACCUMULATION TIME: Accumulation time of the main unit is
displayed.
ACCUMULATION DIST : Accumulation distance is displayed.
GPS RATE : The GPS measurement rate of the ac-
cumulation is displayed.
PRESSURE : The lowest and highest atmospheric
pressure when the navigation is used
are displayed.
4-2. Exception History
System log is displayed.
4-3. System Version
GPS-Firmware Version: Firmware version of GPS is displayed.
Main FW Version : Information on DIAG, bootloader, kernel,
initrd and other systems is displayed.
4-4. Map Version
MAP VERSION FORMAT : Version of the format is displayed.
MAP VERSION NAME : Name of the map data is displayed.
MAP VERSION : Information on the map version is
displayed.
MAP VERSION DB DATE : Information on the day of the dead-
line on DB is displayed.
MAP VERSION AREA : Area code is displayed.
MAP VERSION GRADE : Grade is displayed.
MAP VERSION LIST : List is displayed.
4-5. Status Indication
This mode is not used in servicing.
5. PREPARATION OF THE TEST MODE
Prepare the following before confirming the test mode.
• Memory Stick Duo (128 MB or more)
• Special USB cable (Part No. J-2502-111-1)

6. NOTE OF CHECKING THE TEST MODE
Program data for test mode and special USB cable for test mode is
necessary to confirm the test mode.
Confirm the method of obtaining the program data for test mode to
each service headquarters.
Use the Part No. J-2502-111-1 for special USB cable for test
mode.
Test mode software will be updated according factory request.
7. OUTLINE OF THE TEST MODE
Necessary following function can be used by service by executing
the test mode.
1. Version display (Ver.)
2. Shipment setting (Ship)
3. Diagnosis function (Diag)
4. LCD/touch panel test (LCD)
5. Audio test (Audio)
6. GPS test (GPS)
7. Cradle test (Cradle)
8. Log display (Log)
9. Firmware update (FWUpdate) (Not used in servicing)
10. Movi data copy (Disk) (Not used in servicing)
8. SETTING THE TEST MODE
Procedure:
1. Insert the Memory Stick Duo in which program file for test
mode is written in the main unit and connect the special USB
cable to the main unit
2. Press the [RESET] button, then while touching the upper right
corner of the main unit screen and press the [?/1] button.
3. After starting the test mode, Memory Stick Duo can be taken
out and special USB cable can be disconnected.
When test mode is set first, “10-4-4. Touch panel (2. Start Calibra-
tion)” is performed.
Refer to “10-4-4. Touch panel (2. Start Calibration)” for details.
9. RELEASING THE TEST MODE
Press the [RESET] button and turn off the power.
10. OPERATION OF THE TEST MODE
Test mode is operated by touching the screen.
10-1. Version Display (Ver.)
10-1-1. S/N
Serial number of the main unit displayed usually. When the se-
rial number is not being written, it is displayed as “0x16FFFFFF
16777215”.
10-1-2. FW
The version of the software (BootStrap, DIAG, bootloader, kernel-
rec and initrd.rec) written in the NOR flash memory is displayed.
10-1-3. Map ver
This mode is not displayed in this set. (It is always displayed as
“MapVersion.txt not Found”)
Please confirm the version by “Service Mode” - “Map Version”
when it usually starts when you confirm the map version.
10-2. Shipment Setting (Ship)
It makes it to the one when the setting is shipped. Please do this
mode when you exchange the main board.
Note: Never use it because user information will be deleted when Factory
Reset is executed by touching the “Start” button of Factory Reset.
10-3. Diagnosis Function (Diag)
10-3-1. Diag
1. NOR
When “NOR” on the screen is selected, and the “EXEC” button is
touched, NOR flash memory (IC1504) is diagnosed.
When “OK” is displayed in the first line, NOR flash memory
(IC1504) is normal.
When “NG!” is displayed in the first line, NOR flash memory
(IC1504) is abnormal.
But NOR flash data is updated, it always show “NG”.
Please ignore “NG” message.

2. moviNAND
When “moviNAND” on the screen is selected, and the “EXEC”
button is touched, NAND flash memory (IC2001) is diagnosed.
When “OK” is displayed in the last, NAND flash memory (IC2001)
is normal.
When “NG!” is displayed in the last, NAND flash memory
(IC2001) is abnormal.
But when software is updated, it always show “NG”.
Please ignore “NG” message.
3. KEY
When “KEY” on the screen is selected, and the “EXEC” button is
touched, the [?/1] switch of the main unit is diagnosed.
The check box of Power key reacts when the [?/1] switch of the
main unit is slide. (The check box of Voice key doesn’t react)
4. RDS
When “RDS” on the screen is selected, and the “EXEC” button is
touched, device ID of RDS IC is read.
When “ID is OK” is displayed, it is shown to be able to read de-
vice ID of RDS IC. It is displayed at the error as “Fail to Get RDS
Chip ID”.
5. GPS
When “GPS” on the screen is selected, and the “EXEC” button is
touched, GPS communication circuit is diagnosed.
When “GPS test ...... OK” is displayed, GPS communication cir-
cuit is normal. It is displayed at the error as “GPS test......Fail to
open GPS device” or “GPS test......Fail to get GPS version”.
10-3-2. HW Config
When the “INFO” button is touched, the system will popup one
dialog to display information in detail.
10-3-3. TP LED
This mode is not used in this set.
10-3-4. Battery
The voltage of the lithium battery of the main unit is displayed
usually. It is displayed at the error as “---”.
XDISCHG is not used in this set.
10-3-5. CDO
1. ACC
The check box of ACC reacts when external power supply is sup-
plied.
2. HeadPhone
This mode is not used in servicing.
10-4. LCD/Touch Panel Test (LCD)
10-4-1. LCD color setting
1. Red
When “Red” on the screen is selected, and the “EXEC” button is
touched, red of the brightness max is displayed on full screen. To
release from this mode, touch the screen.
2. Green
When “Green” on the screen is selected, and the “EXEC” button
is touched, green of the brightness max is displayed on full screen.
To release from this mode, touch the screen.
3. Blue
When “Blue” on the screen is selected, and the “EXEC” button is
touched, blue of the brightness max is displayed on full screen. To
release from this mode, touch the screen.
4. White 100%
When “White 100%” on the screen is selected, and the “EXEC”
button is touched, white is displayed on full screen. To release
from this mode, touch the screen.

5. White 0%
When “White 0%” on the screen is selected, and the “EXEC” but-
ton is touched, black is displayed on full screen. To release from
this mode, touch the screen.
6. Color bar
When “Color bar” on the screen is selected, and the “EXEC” but-
ton is touched, color bar is displayed on screen. To release from
this mode, touch the screen.
7. Gray scale
When “Gray scale” on the screen is selected, and the “EXEC”
button is touched, gradation (white 100% to 0%) is displayed on
screen. To release from this mode, touch the screen.
8. Gradation
When “Gradation” on the screen is selected, and the “EXEC” but-
ton is touched, gradation (blue 100% to 0%) is displayed on screen.
To release from this mode, touch the screen.
9. ALL
When “ALL” on the screen is selected, and the “EXEC” button is
touched, above 1. Red is displayed on screen. Then whenever it
touches the screen, it is displayed in order 2. Green →3. Blue →
5. White 0% →6. Color bar →7. Gray scale →8. Gradation →4.
White 100% →LCD/touch panel test screen.
10-4-2. Duty ratio up/down
Backlight of screen can be adjusted.
10-4-3. Photo A/D value
This mode is not used in this set.
10-4-4. Touch panel
1. Test
The “Test” button is touched, touch panel test screen is displayed.

White point is displayed in the part touched on screen.
The coordinates in the part touched at the last are displayed in the
lower right of the screen.
Value of upper: X axis (The left end is 0)
Value of lower: Y axis (The up end is 0)
To release from this mode, touch same point on the screen twice
quickly.
2. Start Calibration
The “Calibration” button is touched, touch panel test screen is dis-
played. This mode is a mode adjusted to match the touch position
to the screen coordinates.
When test mode is set first, this mode is performed. When the
calibration file exists, the pop up screen of the confirmation is dis-
played. In that case, the calibration is begun when “OK” button is
touched.
Touch for about three seconds the center of the target when this
screen is displayed and then touch similarly because the next target
is displayed.
When this screen is displayed, touch the screen and preserve the
value in which the calibration is done. When not touching the
screen for 30 seconds, the value in which the calibration is done is
not preserved.

10-5. Audio Test (Audio)
10-5-1. Sine wave
1. 100Hz
When “100Hz” on the screen is selected, and the “Play” button is
touched, 100 Hz sine curve is played. When the “Stop” button is
touched, the audio output is stopped.
2. 500Hz
When “500Hz” on the screen is selected, and the “Play” button is
touched, 500 Hz sine curve is played. When the “Stop” button is
touched, the audio output is stopped.
3. 1KHz
When “1KHz” on the screen is selected, and the “Play” button is
touched, 1 kHz sine curve is played. When the “Stop” button is
touched, the audio output is stopped.
4. 2KHz
When “2KHz” on the screen is selected, and the “Play” button is
touched, 2 kHz sine curve is played. When the “Stop” button is
touched, the audio output is stopped.
5. 5KHz
When “5KHz” on the screen is selected, and the “Play” button is
touched, 5 kHz sine curve is played. When the “Stop” button is
touched, the audio output is stopped.
6. Infinity
When “Infinity” on the screen is selected, and the “PLAY” button
is touched, output without audio is performed. When the “Stop”
button is touched, the output is stopped.
7. Sweep
When “Sweep” on the screen is selected, and the “Play” button is
touched, sine curve that changes continuously from 100 Hz to 5
kHz is played. When the “Stop” button is touched, the audio output
is stopped.
10-5-2. Volume
Audio volume can be adjusted.
10-5-3. Mic
This mode is not used in servicing.
10-6. GPS Test (GPS)
10-6-1. GPS Information
The “GPS Information” button is touched, GPS information is dis-
played on screen usually. It is displayed at the error as “GPS port
can’t open” or “GPS read error”.
Note: “Adjust Time” button is not used in servicing.
