Getting started!
Charge the rechargeable battery before using. Even if the
rechargeable battery is not charged, you can use the recorder as long
as the AC power adaptor is connected.

Using on a dry battery
InsertoneLR6 (sizeAA) alkaline dry battery (not supplied) instead
of therechargeablebattery.
Notes
l If you pressCHARGE (B) immediately aftercharginghascompleted,
chargingwill beginagain.If this happens,pressCHARGE(M) againto stop
thechargingoperationsincethebatteryis alreadyfully charged.
l Chargingstopswhenyou try to operatetherecorderduring charging.
l BesuretousethesuppliedAC power adaptor.
l Chargingtime mayvary dependingonthebatterycondition.
l Whenarechargeablebatteryischargedfor thefirst time or chargedafter a
long periodof disuse,batterylife maybeshorterthanusual.Repeat
dischargingandrechargingafew times.Thebatterylife shouldreturnto
normal.
l Whenthebatterylife of afully chargedrechargeablebatterybecomesabout
half thenormallife, replaceit.
l Whencarrying therechargeablebattery,keepit in thesuppliedbattery
carrying case.It is dangerousto carry thebatteryout of thecasein your
pocketor abagtogetherwith metallic objectssuchaskey rings, asthis may
causeashortcircuit.
l Removetherechargeablebatteryfrom therecorderwhenit is not to beused
for along time.

Recording an MD right away!
Connectto adigital sourceusing anoptical cable(supplied)to make
digital recordings.Digital recordingis possibleevenfrom digital
equipmentwith different samplingrates,suchasaDAT deckor aBS
tuner,usingthebuilt-in samplingrateconverter.To recordfrom an
analogsource,see“Recording with analoginput (line cable
required)” (page27). To recordfrom anMD, see“Note on digital
recording” (page63). Using theAC power adaptor(supplied)is
recommendedfor recording.
Note that you cannot record a radio broadcast that is
being received on the remote control.

l Whenrecordingfrom aportableCD player,settheCD player to pause,and

Playing an MD right away!
To use the recorder on a rechargeable battery or dry battery, see
“Power sources” (page 58).
When you operate the recorder with the supplied remote control, use
the buttons and control shown in parentheses.
Play an MD.
@ Pressb (flip thejog lever
towardsWt).
A short beepsoundsin the
headphones/earphoneswhen
you operateon the remote
control.
@ PressVOL+I- to adjustthe
volume.
The volume will beshown in
the display.
To stop play, press H.
A long beep sounds in the headphones/earphones when you operate
on the remote control.
Playback starts from the point you last stopped playing.
