FEATURES
The Sony SRF-A1 00 is a compact size stereo receiver which
allows you
lo enjoy listening to AM stereo broadcasting
recently put Into service. The receiver
Is capable of receiving
tor all four AM stereo broadcas ti ng systems being used.
• AM BANDWIDTH/FM SENS (sensitivity) switch
to obtain
better reception from each
station under dif ferent conditions.
• High-Qual ity stereo sound from the two built-in speakers.
• The one-chip IC developed
by Sony assures high sensitivity
and high reliability.
• Listening
with optional stereo headphones is possible.
PRECAUTIONS
• Do not open the casing. Refer servicing to qualified person•
nel only.
• Operate
the set only on 4.5V de with three size AA batteries
(IEC designation
R6).
F or ac operation, use t he ac power adaptor recommended for
this set. Do not use any other ac power adaptor.
For
car batteryoperation, use the car batterycord recommend•
ed for t his set. Do not use any other car ba tt ery cord.
• Do
not leave the set in a location nearheat sourcessuchas
radiators
or alrducts , or in a place subject to direct sunlight,ex-
cessive
dust, moisture, rain, mechan i ca l vibration, or shock.
• Should
any li quid or solid object fall into the set, remove the
batteries and disconnect the
ac power adaplor, and have the
set checked by qualified personnel beforeoperating it any fur-
ther.
• Since a strong magnet is used for the speaker, me t allic ob •
Jects such as
pins , etc. may cllng to the set. Keep personal
credit cards using magnetic cod i ng or spring-wound watches
away from
the set to prevent possible damage from the
magnet.
• When
the casing becomes soiled, clean It with a soft cloth
dampened with a mild dete r gent solution . Never use abrasive
cleansers
or chemical solvents, as they may mar the casing.

• The set cannot be operated on the in ternal batteries when
either
the ac poweradaptor or car battery cord is connected to
the set.
• When
the set is not to be used for a long period of time or is
to be operated extensiVely on other powersources, remove the
batteries to av oid set damage caused by battery leakage and
corrosion.

HOUSE CURRENT
Connect the optional AC-120W ac power adaptor.
First. connect
the adaptor to the receiver DC IN 4.5V Jack, and
then to a
wall outlet.
Before connecting,
be sure to read the ins truction manual for
the adaptor.
12V CAR BATTERY
Use the optional Sony DCC-t27A car batterycord. and connect
the receiver DC IN 4.5V jack to the ciga rette lightersocket of a
car.

HOW TO USE
Follow the steps 1 lo 6 fn sequence to tune in the station .
1 POWER switch
Depress to turn on the power(,, ON).
To turn the receiver off, press it agafn (o OF F).
2 BAND sel ecto r
Select the desired band.
FM ST: For FM reception, set It to this po sition.
The receiver operates
in st ereo mode for FM stereo pro•
grams and
will automatically switch to mono for monaural
programs.
AM ST: For AM stereo program reception. The receiver aper•
ates in stereo mode for AM stereo programs.
AM : For AM monaural program reception. When ii Is hard to
hear the AM stereo program due to noise. set it to t his posi•
lion.
3 AM ST MOOE (AM stereo mode) selector
Set
it to the appropriate position acco r ding to the AM stereo
broadcasting system being used.
A: For Harris, Magnavox or Mot orola System
B: For Kahn Hazel tine Syst em
II you do not know which syst em is b eing used, you can deter•
mine the appropriate position of t his selector by compar ing Ille
quali ty of t he ster eo reception at each positio n.

4 AM BANDWIDTH/FM SENS (sensitivi ty ) selector
Th is 2-positi on selector has a du al purpose: the AM BAND-
WIDTH
selector in AM reception, and lhe FM SENS selector in
FM recepti on.

FM reception, if t he receplion Is interrupted by adjacent
station noise . set it to DISTANT.
5 VOLUME control
Turn ,t clockwise to get soun d. Afte r tuning . ad1ust the volume
to your preference.
6 TUNING knob and TUNING indicator
Turn it to tu ne in the desired frequency observing lhe dial
scale. When a signal 1s received, the TUNING incHcator w,11
light up .

ANTENNAS
For AM reception
The built - in ferrite bar an tenna is used. Sin ce this antenna Is
directional, rota te the set horizontally for optimum r ecep tion, 1f
necessary.

For FM rec eption
When listening through the speakors, pull out tne telescopic
antenna and
adjust ,ts length. direction. and angle for the best
reception.
When
listen i ng with the optional headphones, put back the
telescopic antenna and extend the cord of the headphones so
that the FM sensitivity will be Increased. as It has the function
of an FM antenna.

RECORDING THE RADIO PROGRAMS
Youn can record the radio programs onto a stereo tape
recorder.
Connect the receiver PHONES
jack lo the MIC 1ack (stereo
minijack) or the LINE IN jack (stereo minijack) of a stereo tape
recorder using
the optional RK-134 or RK-136 connecting cord
respectively.

HOW TO USE THE CARRYING STRAP
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
Should any problem occur with th,e set. make the following
simple tests
to determine whether c,r not servicing is required.
If the problem persists after you ha,ve made these tests, con-
sult the nearest Sony dealer for furlher information.
I No sound from the speakers.]
• The POWER switch is set lo OFF. .. Set ii to ON.
•
The VOLUME control is turned down completely.
• Incorrect polarity
of batteries.
• Weak batteries.
,. Replace all th,e batteries with new ones.
• Battery operation
is attempted while the ac power adaptor
or car battery cord is connected to the receiver but not to the
wall outlet or the cigarette lighter socket.
• Loose connection of an ac powE!f adaptor or a car battery
cord.
,. Connect it firmly to the rece1 1ver DC IN 4.5 V Jack and to
a wall outlet or a cigarette lighter socket.
• A
pair of headphones are connec:ted to the PHONES jack
Weak or interrupted sound. or unsatisfactory reception
• Weak batteries.
• Improper
tun ing. ,. Turn the TUNIING knob where the TUN-
ING Indica
tor illuminates .
• Weak signal.
,. In a bufldlng or ,a vehicle. use the receiver
near a w

• Improper adjustment of the antenna (tor the FM reception)
,. Pull out the telescopic antenna and adjust its len gth. direc -
tion , and angle for the best reception. Extend the headphone
cord antenna when lis tening with the headphones.
