• Do not leave the unit in a location near heat
sources, or in a place subject to direct sunlight,
excessive dust or mechanical shock.
• Should any solid object or liquid fall into the
unit, remove the battery and have the unit
checked by qualified personnel before operating
it any further.
If you have any questions or problems concerning
your unit, please consult your nearest Sony dealer.
This Quick Start Guide describes only basic
operations, such as how to record, play back, or
erase files. The operating instructions
explaining all the features and functions of
the IC recorder are stored as PDF files in 7
languages in the built-in memory of the IC
recorder. To copy the operating instructions
from the IC recorder to your computer, see
“Step 6: Copying the Operating Instructions to
Your Computer” on page 6.

Getting Started
Step 1: Checking the
Contents of the Package
IC Recorder (1)
Remove the film on the display window before you
use the IC recorder.
Stereo headphones (1)

If the IC recorder cannot be connected to a computer
directly, use the supplied USB connection support
cable.
Telephone recording microphone (1)

Operating Instructions
The operating instructions are stored as PDF files in
the built-in memory of the IC recorder.
Step 2: Recharging the
Battery
Recharging the battery using a
computer
1Insert a rechargeable battery.
Slide and lift the battery compartment lid, insert
one NH-AAA rechargeable battery with correct
polarity, and close the lid.
2Connect the IC recorder to your computer.
Slide the USB slide lever on the back of the IC
recorder in the direction of the arrow, and insert
the USB DIRECT connector into the USB port
of a running computer.
3Disconnect the IC recorder from your
computer.
Follow the procedures below; otherwise, when
the IC recorder contains data files, the files may
be damaged or become unplayable.
1Make sure that the operation indicator of the
IC recorder does not light.

2Perform the following operation on your
computer.
On a Windows screen, left-click the icon at
the bottom of the desktop of the computer.
tLeft-click “Eject IC RECORDER.”
The icon and menu displayed can be different on
different operating systems.
On a Macintosh screen, drag “IC
RECORDER” on the desktop to “Trash” and
drop it there.
For details on disconnecting the IC recorder
from your computer, refer to the operating
instructions supplied with your computer.
3Disconnect the IC recorder from the USB
port of the computer, and slide the USB
slide lever in the direction of the arrow to
retract the USB DIRECT connector.
Step 3: Turning the IC
Recorder On
Turning the power on
Slide the HOLD/POWER switch in the direction
of “POWER” for more than 1 second. The IC
recorder is turned on, and the “Accessing...”
animation is displayed.
Turning the power off
Slide the HOLD/POWER switch in the direction
of “POWER” for more than 2 seconds, and the
“Power Off” animation is displayed.

Step 4: Setting the Clock
You need to set the clock to use the alarm
function or record the date and time.
When you insert a battery for the first time, or
when you insert a battery after the IC recorder has
been without a battery for more than 1 minute, the
“Set Date&Time” animation appears, and then the
year section begins to flash in the clock setting
display window.

1Press vor Von the control button to set the
year, month, day, hour, and minute in sequence,
and then press N/ENT.
Select the last two digits of the year when you
set the year.
2Press xSTOP to return to the stop mode
display.

Step 5: Setting the
Language to Be Used in
the Display Window
You can select the language to be used for
messages, menus, folder names, file names, etc.
from 11 languages.

language that you want to use, and then press
N/ENT.
You can select the following languages.

3Press xSTOP to exit the menu mode.
Step 6: Copying the
Operating Instructions
to Your Computer
1Connect the IC recorder to your computer
(page 3).
2Complete the following procedure on your
computer.
On a Windows screen; open “My Computer” or
“Computer,” - “IC RECORDER” -
“Instructions.”
On a Macintosh screen; open the “IC
RECORDER” drive on the desktop -
“Instructions.”
3Drag and drop the files of the operating
instructions from “Instructions” folder to the
local disk on your computer.
The file names of the operating instructions are
as follows:
Product name_language name_version.pdf (e.g.
ICD-UX512F_UX513F_English_11.pdf)
4Disconnect the IC recorder from your computer
(page 3).

Before you start recording, we recommend you make a trial recording first, or monitor the recording.
Selecting a folder
1Slide the HOLD/POWER switch towards the center to release
the IC recorder from the HOLD status.
2Press to display the folder selection window.
3Press .on the control button, press vor Von the control
button to select the (Voice) tab, and then press >on the
control button.
4Press vor Von the control button to select the folder in which
you want to record files.
When you purchase the IC recorder, there are 5 folders already
available ( FOLDER01-05).

1Place the IC recorder so that the built-in microphones face the
direction of the source to be recorded.
2Press zREC/PAUSE in the stop mode.
The operation indicator lights in red.
You do not need to press and hold zREC/PAUSE while
recording.
The new file will be automatically recorded after the last
recorded file.
1Press xSTOP.
The “Accessing...” animation appears and the IC recorder stops
at the beginning of the current recording file.
1Slide the HOLD/POWER switch towards the center to release
the IC recorder from the HOLD status.

Playback will start soon, and the operation indicator will light in
green. (When “LED” is set to “OFF” in the menu, the operation

8Press VOL –/+ to adjust the volume.
1Press xSTOP.
1Slide the HOLD/POWER switch towards the center to release
the IC recorder from the HOLD status.
2Select the file you want to erase when the IC recorder is in the
stop or playback mode.
3Press ERASE.
“Erase?” is displayed and the specified file is played back for
confirmation.

4Press vor Von the control button to select “Execute.”
5Press N/ENT.
The “Erasing...” animation appears in the display window and
the selected file will be erased.
When a file is erased, the remaining files will advance so that
there will be no space between files.
1Select “Cancel” in step 4 of “Selecting a file and erasing it,” and
then press N/ENT.

Manual de instrucciones
Las instrucciones de funcionamiento están
almacenadas como archivos PDF en la memoria
interna de la grabadora IC.
Paso 2: Recarga de la pila
Recarga de la pila mediante un
ordenador
1Inserte una pila recargable.
Deslice y levante la tapa del compartimiento de
la pila, inserte una pila recargable NH-AAA
con la polaridad correcta y cierre la tapa.
2Conecte la grabadora IC al ordenador.
Deslice la lengüeta deslizante de USB situada
en la parte trasera de la grabadora IC en el
sentido de la flecha, e inserte el conector USB
DIRECT en el puerto USB de un ordenador que
esté encendido.
3Desconecte la grabadora IC del ordenador.
Siga este procedimiento para evitar que los
archivos se dañen o no puedan reproducirse
cuando la grabadora IC contenga archivos de
datos.

1Asegúrese de que el indicador de

2Realice la siguiente operación en el ordenador.
En una pantalla de Windows, haga clic en el
icono situado en la parte inferior del
escritorio del ordenador.
tHaga clic en “Expulsar IC
RECORDER”.
El icono y el menú mostrado puede ser diferente
en los distintos sistemas operativos.
En una pantalla de Macintosh, arrastre “IC
RECORDER” desde el escritorio hasta
“Trash” y suéltela ahí.

3Desconecte la grabadora IC del puerto USB
del ordenador y deslice la lengüeta deslizante
del conector USB en el sentido de la flecha
para replegar el conector USB DIRECT.
Paso 3: Cómo encender
la grabadora IC
Para encenderla
Deslice el interruptor HOLD/POWER en el
sentido de “POWER” durante más de 1 segundo.
La grabadora IC se enciende y se muestra
“Accessing...” en forma de animación.
Para apagarla
Deslice el interruptor HOLD/POWER en el
sentido de “POWER” durante más de 2 segundos
y se mostrará la animación “Power Off”.

Paso 4: Ajuste del reloj
Es necesario ajustar el reloj para utilizar la
función de alarma o para grabar la fecha y la hora.
Al insertar una pila por primera vez, o bien al
insertar una pila después de que la grabadora IC
haya permanecido sin una pila durante más de 1
minuto, aparece la animación “Set Date&Time” y,
a continuación, comienza a parpadear la sección
del año en el visor de ajuste del reloj.

el año, el mes, el día, la hora y los minutos en

3Arrastre y coloque los archivos del manual de
instrucciones desde la carpeta “Instructions” al
disco local del ordenador.

grabar.

No es necesario mantener pulsado zREC/PAUSE durante la
grabación.
El nuevo archivo se grabará automáticamente después del
último archivo grabado.

Aparece la animación “Accessing...” y la grabadora IC se
detiene al principio del archivo de grabación actual.

Selección de un archivo y borrado
1Pulse xSTOP.

2Seleccione el archivo que desee borrar cuando la grabadora IC
se encuentre en el modo de parada o de reproducción.
