NOTE: For more detailed descriptions of the new functions, refer

FPS Formats Supported
When connected to PMW-F3, the following FPS formats are
supported:
422 SQ/Lite S29PsF(23/29PsF)
422 SQ/Lite S59P(23/29PsF)
444 SQ S29PsF(23/29PsF)
422 SQ/Lite S25PsF(25PsF)
422 SQ/Lite S50P(25PsF)
444 SQ S25PsF(25PsF)
NOTE: PMW-F3 does not support 24PsF.
NOTE: Refer to the SR-R1 Operation Manual, 1st Edition
(Revised 3), Appendix > Connection to the PMW-F3 > Select
FPS Recording (as reproduced on pages 2 and 3 of this bulletin).

Monitor LUT Conversion Function
The monitor LUT conversion function (supports S-Log) is added.
VIDEO menu > LUT
This function converts color reproduction of signals set with
gamma (such as S-Log) from cameras (such as PMW-F3) to
optimize color reproduction on the monitor. The LUT file must be
obtained separately for each camera.
NOTE: When LUT is set, color reproduction is applied to both HD
SDI OUT (MON) 1 and 2 outputs.
SRExpress Mode
SRExpress mode is added.
SYSTEM menu > INGEST > SRExpress
High-speed file transferring is enabled by connecting with IoXT
or KONA 3G from AJA Video Systems.
SDI INGEST Mode
SDI INGEST mode is added.
SYSTEM menu > INGEST > SDI INGEST
This function is provided to connect NLE equipment to REMOTE
terminal (RS-422) and to transfer files in normal playback speed.
NOTE: Only files that are in the same format as the system
format setting are applicable for playback. In addition, SELECT
becomes enabled in the menu and applicable files can be
flagged for refining.
RS-422 Control
RS-422 control is supported.
SYSTEM menu > REMOTE/LOCAL > REMOTE
Remote mode of RM-280 is supported. When the unit is set to
REMOTE, the key setting on the control panel follows the KEY
MAP setting.
NOTE: Even if the menu setting is LOCAL, the REMOTE
connector is active. If RM-280 is not used for controlling SR-R1,
disconnect RM-280 or turn RM-280 power OFF.
Control Against File Name Duplication
When File Name is set to Camera, two randomly-generated
characters are added to the suffix of the file name. For example:
A001C001_120404XY (where XY are the added characters).
This function reduces duplication of file names on the PC after
files are ingested.

3G-SDI Input/Output
3G-SDI input/output is supported.
SYSTEM menu > SYSTEM FORMAT > SDI IN/SDI OUT
Continuous Playback
Continuous playback is supported.
SYSTEM menu > PB FUNCTION > PB CONTINUE > LIST
Continuous playback can be performed in order of the FILE LIST
definition.
REC PAUSE Function
The REC PAUSE function is supported.
REC PAUSE and REC RESTART can be operated by pressing only
the pause key. The file is closed at REC PAUSE, and a new file is
created and opened at REC START.
Mark Function
The Mark function is supported. Button operations are as follows:
Press Operation
FUNC+REC Sets mark point. Up to three mark points
can be set in one file. The mark points are
deleted with EJECT or power OFF
functions. (The mark points are not
recorded on the card.)
FUNC+PAUSE Mark point last entered is opened.
FF (Next) Start TC of next file or next mark point is
opened.
REW (Prev) Start TC of previous file or previous mark
point is opened.
FUNC+Enter (Enter dial on File List screen) The list of
mark points appears on the right of the
screen.
Cue Up with Timecode Input
Cue up is supported with timecode input.
While the file is opened, input numeric data of the timecode in
SYSTEM menu > PB FUNCTION > IN POINT, and press
FUNC+PAUSE to cue up to the IN POINT.
NOTE: Because searching depends on comparison with the
current timecode value and target value, cue up may not be
executed correctly in some cases.
Synchronized Recording with PMW-F3
Synchronized recording with PMW-F3 is supported.
SYSTEM menu > OTHERS > REC TRIGGER > SYNCHRO REC
Parallel or synchronized recording is supported with SRMemory
cards and SxS memory cards installed to PMW-F3 (DURATION,
TC, FILENAME, S&Q/SR Motion, and Metadata RDD-18).

Off-Speed Playback
Off-speed playback is supported.
Video can be replayed in a different system frequency from the
frame frequency originally recorded. The audio signal is replayed
with simplified interpolation. (Audio may be distorted.)
PROGRAM IMPROVEMENT
Image, audio, timecode, and other indications are improved at
start-up and during mode transitions.
UPGRADE PROCEDURE
System Requirements
•PC running Windows and with Memory Stick slot
•SRMemory card (for recording)
•Memory Stick PRO (confirmed for operation up to 8 GB)
•AC adapter (AC-DN2B/DN10 or equivalent with AC, DC
cable)
•Battery, charged (BP-GL95 or equivalent for power backup)
Prepare Software Files
1. Download the zip file from the SoftwarePLUS website:

2. Extract the zip file on the PC.
The following folder and files are created:
/MSSONY/PRO/SRMASTER/SR-R1/
CPSR.F1.50.0104.bin (Control panel)
DMSRSYS.F1.50.0162.lzh (DM SYS)
DMR1FPGA10.F1.50.A04F.lzh (DM FPGA1)
DMSRPROC.F1.30.0000.lzh (DM PROC)
3. Remove former version upgrade files from the memory stick.
NOTE: If former version files remain on the memory stick,
the recorder will be downgraded.
4. Copy the MSSONY folder to the root directory of the memory
stick.
NOTE: DO NOT extract the lzh files on the PC in advance
because the files are automatically extracted to the unit after
being transferred.

Update Software
NOTE:
•DO NOT turn OFF power during the upgrade.
•If using an AC adaptor on which a battery can be attached
(such as AC-DN2B or AC-DN10), attach a charged battery as
a power backup in case of an inadvertent power shutdown.
Confirm that the power supply will automatically switch to
the battery when the AC cable is disconnected prior to the
upgrade.
•Make sure no former version files or other unnecessary files
are on the memory stick.
•DO NOT replace any files obtained by extracting the zip file.
•Eject any SRMemory cards inserted in the recorder.
•A warning (such as “Unlock”) displayed during the upgrade is
not an error.
•Before upgrading SR-R1, upgrade any equipment that will be
connected to SR-R1.
1. Connect the AC adapter securely to the DC IN connector of
SR-R1, and mount a battery to the AC adapter if possible.
SYSTEM menu > BATTERY > BATT TYPE
NOTE: Confirm that the AC adapter is connected securely
because the installation takes approximately 30 minutes.
2. Confirm the current versions as follows:
a. Turn SR-R1 power ON.
b. On the control panel, press HOME + SYSTEM to open the
DIAGNOSIS menu.
c. Select SOFT VERSION, and press FUNC + ENTER.

NOTE: The latest versions are listed in Table 1. Versions new for
the V1.50 upgrade are in red.
3. Press HOME + SYSTEM to open the DIAGNOSIS menu, select
VERSION UP, and press ENTER. (See Figure 2.)

4. Select ALL, and press FUNC + ENTER. (See Figure 3.)
NOTE:
• When executing ALL, the file with the newer version is
selected automatically if there are different version files
for each ROM.
• When upgrading ROMs individually, select the ROM to
upgrade from the VERSION UP menu.

5. The All SOFT/FPGA screen appears. (See Figure 4.)
Confirm that the current versions and the versions on the
memory stick are correct.
Select OK, and press FUNC + ENTER to execute the upgrade.

6. When the upgrade is completed, confirm that “Completed”
appears in the lower left of the screen. (See Figure 5.)

7. Turn power OFF and ON to restart the unit.
Confirm Version
Confirm that software is upgraded correctly as follows.
1. Press HOME + SYSTEM to open the DIAGNOSIS menu.
2. Select SOFT VERSION, and press FUNC + ENTER.

SETUP RESET
CAUTION: By executing this reset, menu settings for SR-R1 are
reset to the defaults.
If necessary, save setup data to a memory stick first as follows:
1. Press HOME + SYSTEM to open the DIAGNOSIS menu.
2. Select SETUP > SAVE, and press ENTER.
Perform the SETUP RESET as follows:
1. Press HOME + SYSTEM to open the DIAGNOSIS menu.
2. Select SETUP > RESET > OK, and press FUNC + ENTER to
reboot the unit.
3. Turn unit power OFF and ON again.
CONFIRMATION
Perform recording and playback for each system format, and
confirm that the unit functions normally.
