When using electrical appliances should always observe the following
safety measures:
1. Read all Instructions.
2. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
3. To protect against fire, electric shock and injury to persons do not
immerse cord, plugs, or in water or other liquid.
4. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near
children.
5. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to
cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the
appliance.
6. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after
the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner.
Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for
examination, repair or adjustment.
7. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance
manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock or injury to persons.
8. Do not use outdoors.
9. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot
surfaces.
10. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated
oven.

11. Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall
outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to off, then remove plug from
wall outlet.
12. Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
13. To reduce the risk of injury, do not drape cord over the counter top or
table top where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over
unintentionally or touch hot surface.
14. Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycles.
15. The appliance can be used by children over 8 years and by people
with reduced physical, mental or sensory experience and/or
insufficient skills, if supervised by a person responsible for their
safety or they are instructed in the use of the device and they are
understand the danger associated to the use of the machine.
16. After unpacking, check that the appliance is in perfect conditions. In
case of doubt, do not use it and contact a qualified technician.
17. The power supply must be equipped with grounding: the
manufacturer cannot be held responsible for any accidents caused by
the lack or non-compliance with the laws of the grounding system.
18. The plug for connection to the power supply cannot be replaced. In
case of incompatibility between the socket and the appliance plug,
have to replace the socket with another suitable type by qualified
personnel.
19. The machine must be installed:
-in places where the room temperature is between + 5 ° C to + 50 ° C
with relative humidity not exceeding 80% absolute;
-in a place where its use and its maintenance can be carried out only
by trained personnel;
-on a flat surface, in ventilated areas, away from water taps, and sinks.

20. Never put hands, metal objects or other inside the machine when it is
connected to the power supply.
21. The user should never access those parts of the machine whose
protections are blocked by means that require a tool to be released.
22. In order not to affect the outer parts of the machine, we recommend
the use of neutral or for food detergents.
23. The unit must never be washed with water jets. Never immerse the
machine in water or put it in the dishwasher.

These OPERATING AND SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS are a guide for using and maintaining the
following type of COFFEE POD espresso machines:
PINOCCHIO C
PINOCCHIO CV
This device is intended for use in domestic environments and similar, such as: kitchens, shops,
offices and other workplaces, farm hotels, hotels, motels, and other residential facilities, including
bed and breakfast.
The PINOCCHIO espresso coffee machine uses roasted, ground, pressed coffee portioned and
packed into single-dose PODs in a protective atmosphere.
The system is practical and easy to use and guarantees the following advantages:
- a quality espresso coffee;
- a thick, lasting cream;
- no contact between the machine and the brewed espresso;
- a machine that is easy to keep clean;
- less machine maintenance.

GENERAL RULES FOR MACHINE USE
Please read this instruction booklet and the warranty limits with care.
The machine has to be kept clean, washing the cup rack and the drip tray
frequently.
VERY IMPORTANT: never immerse the machine in water or put it
inside the dishwasher.
GENERAL SAFETY NOTICES
Before carrying out any USE or SERVICE operation on the machine
and in order to ensure its long-term reliability, it is highly
recommended to read these instructions carefully.
This OPERATING MANUAL is a part of the product and must be
kept carefully throughout the whole working life of the machine; if
lost or damaged, a copy can be requested from the manufacturer.
SPINEL S.r.l. declines all liability for harm or injury to persons or
damage to things arising from failure to observe the regulations
contained in this manual.
Data and characteristics shown in this booklet reflect the machine
configuration at the time of introduction into the market.
SPINEL S.r.l. reserves the right to improve its models at any time
with no obligation to make changes to the product previously
marketed, nor to the technical documentation provided with it.
However, if SPINEL S.r.l. deems it necessary, they will send out
technical update sheets to be kept with the operating manual.

PRODUCT DISPOSAL INSTRUCTIONS
The European Parliament Directive 2002/95/EC, 2002/96/EC and
2003/108/EC transposed by the Member States of the European Union
limit the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic
equipment, and the proper disposal of said equipment.
Par. 13 of the Legislative Decree dd. 25 July 2005, n. 151 “Fulfilment
of regulations 2002/95/EC, 2002/96/EC and 2003/108/EC, concerning
the reduction of employment of dangerous substances for electric and
electronic equipment, and product disposal”.
The symbol of the crossed bin placed on all machines or on the carton
shows that the product must be disposed of separately from other waste.
Separate collection of this equipment arrived at the end of life is
organized and managed by the manufacturer. If you want to dispose of
this equipment, you will need to contact the manufacturer and follow the
system that it has taken to allow recycling of appliances that have reached
the end of their useful life.
Proper collection and disposal of this equipment, followed by recycling or
treatment or ecological disposal can help prevent damage to health and
the environment and can support the re-use and/or recycling of materials.
Incorrect disposal of the product by the user is punishable with
administrative sanctions as per Legislative Decree n. 22/1997 (par. 50 and
following of Legislative Decree n. 22/1997).

RECEIVING AND UNPACKING
The mod. PINOCCHIO pod coffee machine is packed in a cardboard box, inside an upper and
lower shaped section. Open the box and remove the protective forms in order to take hold of the
bottom of the machine. Rest the machine on a flat surface for the preliminary operations and to
make sure the machine is completely undamaged .
For any doubts, please call any of Spinel service centres.
Forwarders will be held responsible for any breakage or failure related to transport.
POSITIONING AND INSTALLATION
All machine installations and settings must be carried out by authorized
technical staff only.
Spinel S.r.l. is not liable for damages to the machine due to improper
installation of the same, caused by the incompetence or negligence of the
personnel responsible.
Make sure that power voltage and frequency match with the data shown
on the machine’s rating plate.
The equipotential protection circuit must be checked at least once a year.
It is necessary to install a proper overcurrent protection device upstream
of the power supply cord.
The following automatic protection switches are recommended:
PINOCCHIO C Magnetothermic switch In=10 A Icc=4.5 kA 2P
PINOCCHIO CV Magnetothermic switch In=10 A Icc=4.5 kA 2P

After checking that the machine is complete, place it on a stable and
perfectly horizontal surface in order to allow enough space for carrying
out all operations easily and safely (insertion of water container, pod
insertion, cleaning and maintenance).

SWITCHES AND THEIR FUNCTIONS
Coffee Main Switch (ON/OFF): switch on the coffee group by moving this switch to the ON
position. Next to the switch is a green light to show that the machine is connected to the
power supply.
Coffee Switch: press it to start brewing the coffee; press it again to stop. Next to the Coffee
Switch is a red light; when this red light is off, the coffee group is ready for brewing; when it
is on, the machine has not reached the correct temperature and it is necessary to wait for a few
seconds for the light to go off before pouring any coffee.
Steam Main Switch (ON/OFF): move the switch to the ON position to switch on the steam
group. Next to the switch is a green light that show that the device is connected to the power
line;
Steam switch: press this button to dispense steam, then press it again to stop the delivery.
Next to the steam switch is a red warning light. If the light is turned off, the steam the group
is ready for delivery and when it is turned on, it is preferable to wait for it to switch off before
dispensing any steam.
Group closing lever: push the lever downwards until it stops (end of travel); the pod holder
will be perfectly locked and compressed, thus ensuring a perfect flow of coffee.
COFFEE GROUP START UP
Fill the tank with water
Switch on the Main Coffee Switch.
Press the Coffee Switch at regular intervals for no longer than 5 seconds per cycle, with 5-
second pauses until water starts to come out from the coffee spout. In order to proceed with
this operation, insert an empty pods (without coffee).
Important: At this stage it is essential to make sure that the pump takes up water from the start
because excessive "dry" operation will damage it.
Wait for the coffee red light to switch off and press the coffee switch to pour water from the
coffee spout until the red light switches on again.
Repeat the operations as described in the previous paragraph several times for optimum
coffee group heating.

MACHINE OPERATION AND USE
Make sure there is water in the tank.
Insert the plug into the power supply socket.
Remove the pod from its protective packaging by tearing the edge.
Fit the pod inside the bottom pod holder, making sure that it is well centred.
Push the lever downwards until it stops.
Place the cup and press on the Coffee Switch to brew the coffee. Press it again to stop.
Pull the lever up (back to its initial position) and throw away the used pod.
WARNING: The coffee group lever must be returned to the up position
after coffee delivery.
To prepare more than a coffee, repeat the sequence from the beginning.
MILK FROTHER AND FROTHER CLEANER
The Pinocchio CV model can be equipped with a Frother.
To use the frother, the steam group should be turned on and reach the ideal temperature, as shown
reported by the red light at the side of the steam switch. If the light is turned on you must wait until
it turns itself off before proceeding with the steam.

In order to make cappuccino it is necessary to place the silicon pipe inside the milk container and
press the steam switch. Once the required amount has been made for a cappuccino, press the
switch again to stop.
Use the pipe clamp to adjust the amount of milk to be sucked from the container in order to
increase the temperature of the cappuccino.
To clean the internal circuit of the frother, place the silicon pipe into a glass full of water and
follow the Cappuccino procedures as above.
The Pinocchio CV model can be equipped with both a frother and a frother cleaner.
In order to make cappuccino it is necessary to place the chrome-plated end of the tube inside the
milk container and press the steam switch..
To clean the internal circuit of the frother, insert the chrome-plated end in to the frother cleaner
and operate the steam switch to flush through the inside of the frother.

VOLUMETRIC FLOWMETER
HOW TO SET THE COFFEE FLOW:
Press the “programming” button and the small or large coffee button at the same time
(depending on which type of coffee you want to program), at which point begins the coffee
delivery will begin.
Once you reach the amount of coffee you want, press the button again to store the large or
small coffee amount (depending on which size coffee is being stored).
HOW TO SET THE STEAM FLOW:
Press the store and steam buttons at the same time; at this point the steam dispensing will
begin.
Once you reach the desired steam delivery time, press the steam button again.
WARNING: If there is no water in the tank, the safety system is activated and the electronic
control unit for the flow meter will go into alarm mode. To re-set, switch off the machine,
add water and switch it on again.

TROUBLESHOOTING
The machine may not work because:
the plug has not been inserted into the socket;
the ON/OFF switch has not been pressed;
there is no water in the tank;
the filters are clogged.
The cause of machine failure while preparing beverages may be:
the pod holder is not properly closed;
an exhausted pod is being used (the pods are for single use only);
If the cause of the failure does not correspond to those listed above, it is necessary to contact one
of our service centers.
GENERAL SERVICING
POWER CABLE
Regularly check the power cable. If it is worn or damaged, it should be replaced by authorized
personnel.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
For the correct use of the machine and a high-quality coffee, it is highly recommended to regularly
clean the machine. These operations have to be done when the machine is cold and unplugged
from the power supply.
DRIP TRAY CLEANING:
Empty the tray daily and wash with warm water.
EXTERNAL CASE and CUP RACK
They should be wiped clean using a cloth soaked in specific mild detergent and warm water.
WARNING: only carry out this operation when the machine is cold
SCALE REMOVAL
The scale formation is a natural consequence of machine use. We recommend removing scale
regularly (as soon as it appears inside the water tube)) in order to avoid malfunctions that are not
covered by the warranty. Only use products for descaling coffee machines and follow the
instructions on the package of the product. Do not use vinegar, lye, salt, or formic acid because
they may damage the machine.
WARNING: Spinel S.r.l. does not acknowledge any failure to remove scale regularly.

ADJUSTMENT OF THE POD HOLDER
During the test stage, the top pod holder is correctly set in the factory.
If, when delivering coffee, you should notice leaking from between the two pod holders, then the
top holder needs to be manually adjusted as follows:
IMPORTANT: only carry out pod holder adjustments and replacements when the machine
has cooled.
Open the pod holder, insert a 4mm diameter lever in the appropriate hole of the upper pod holder;
- turning to the left will increase the tightness.
- turning to the right will decrease the tightness.
For adjustment purposes, never move the pod holder away from the upper surface too much (do
not loosen by more than ¾)
If a tighter closure is necessary, operate on the bottom pod holder

SPARE PARTS
Only replace parts with ORIGINAL SPINEL S.r.l. SPARE PARTS, available in all Spinel service
centers. SPINEL S.r.l. accepts no liability for Pinocchio machine failures if non-original spare
parts are used. All repairs should only be carried out in our service centers and/or by authorized
qualified staff only.
DEMINERALISER FILTER MAINTENANCE
In order to guarantee efficient steam group operation and to avoid scale deposits, it is essential to
replace the water softener regularly, whenever the resin turns from blue to brown..
The demineraliser filter is located inside the water container, attached to the end of the water
suction pipe for the steam group.
If the Water Softener is not replaced following the above mentioned instructions and the steam
flow gets blocked, please contact one of our customer service centres.
WARNING: Spinel S.r.l. will not accept any liability for defects caused by a lack of routine
maintenance of the water softener according to the procedures described in this manual

WARRANTY
The warranty is valid for a period of 12 months from the date of machine delivery by SPINEL
S.r.l.
Such date must be proved by a document of transport issued by SPINEL s.r.l. showing the delivery
date and machine identification details (type, model, serial number).
If defects to material or workmanship are found and acknowledged during the warranty period,
SPINEL s.r.l. undertakes to repair or replace faulty components free of charge.
Transport fees are at buyer’s expense. If the same failure occurs several times or if transport fees
are considered excessive, SPINEL s.r.l., as it deems necessary, will replace the faulty machine
with another one of the same model or with a different model of the same value. Any repair or
replacement of components or machines will not extend the warranty period in any way.
WARRANTY EXCEPTION CLAUSES
Repairs and/or spare parts replacement will not be covered by warranty if failures are caused by
deterioration to products that cannot be attributed ot the manufacturer, such as:
Misuse of the equipment regardless the operating instructions provided by manufacturer in the
instruction manual;
Negligence, careless use and incorrect maintenance by the consumer due to failure to comply
with the above and with the guidelines in the user’s manual;
Incorrect installation;
Maintenance or repairs carried out by non-authorized personnel and/or employing components
not provided by SPINEL s.r.l.;
Breakdowns and failures caused by transport and shipping with non-original packaging;
Frost;
Build-up of scale in the pipes;
Fire, flood, inductive/static discharge caused by lightning or other phenomena outside the
machine, power outages, voltage variations or anomalies.
The warranty also does not include:
Removable parts (buttons, lights, filters, seals, etc.) and all consumables that need to be
replaced during normal use of the machine;
Aesthetic or colouring defects if not disputed at the time of purchase;
Faults attributable to consumables (coffee) in terms of flavor, color, density, extraction time
(except the delivery temperature);
All parts in which bad operation and/or breakdown to be attributed to failure to remove scale or
to carry out routine maintenance as specified by the manufacturer.
SPINEL refuses to accept any liability for harm or injury to persons or damage to things arising
from failure to observe the regulations contained in this manual.
The information and characteristics provided in this manual are not binding for SPINEL S.r.l., the
machine manufacturer, which reserves the right to make changes to its models at any time.

NOTICES
For high-quality espresso, remember to:
- warm the cups before use (over the cup warmer or with hot water);
- maintain the machine in top operating condition by delivering a little water at the beginning and
at the end of use;
- turn on the machine at least 20 minutes before use;
- replace the water in the container every day.
