Thank you for choosing SpringCard !
CrazyWr ter s an OEM contactless smartcard reader,
w th 2 µSIM/SAM slots.
Thanks to ts nat ve USB nterface, CrazyWr ter s
PC/SC compl ant. The dev ce may also be operated n
legacy mode, e ther on USB or n RS-232 thanks to
an opt onal nterface board.
Th s document s the reference gu de to nstall
CrazyWr ter n your equ pment.

OUNTING FOR
USB
OPERATION
 Install Crazy riter Mother Board (EASD470) n a
place where you can access the µSIM/SAM slots
and the USB connector eas ly.
 Install the antenna (e ther Crazy riter Standard
Antenna EASD471 or any compl ant antenna

)
near the “land ng zone” of the contactless
smartcards (d stance between the smartcard and
the antenna must be 0,5cm ≤ d ≤ 1,5cm for
correct operat on w th most smartcards).
 Connect the antenna to the mother board :
• Short d stance (d ≤ 5cm) : use a 2-w re
tw sted cable (J4 connector)
•
Long d stance (5cm ≤ d ≤ 200cm) : use a
50Ω coax al cable.

 Install Mother Board and Antenna follow ng the
steps dep cted n the prev ous paragraph.
 Install the Power+RS232 board (EASD472)
 Connect P1A to P2 us ng the 8-w re cable.

µSIM/SAM
SLOTS
Install one or two µSIM/SAM s SC2 and SC3.
• SC2 s “slot 2” n legacy mode (Spr ngProx API), and
“CrazyWr ter SAM 1” n PC/SC.
•
SC2 s “slot 3” n legacy mode (Spr ngProx API), and
“CrazyWr ter SAM A” n PC/SC.

Use JP1 to select the µSIM/SAM voltage as follow :

NSTALLING THE DRIVER AND
CONNECTING THE PRODUCT
USB operation
Follow the CSB6 Family Quick Installation Guide
(PMUJ5P) to nstall the dr ver before connect ng the
CrazyWr ter to your computer.
Do not connect the Power+RS232 board (EASD472)
when operat ng CrazyWr ter on USB
PC/SC dr ver for CSB6 Fam ly s ava lable at :

Serial operation with Power+RS232 Board
 Connect the Power+RS232 board to the
CrazyWr ter mother board us ng the 8-w re
cable.
 Use a DB-9 cable, cert f ed for RS-232 (not
prov ded), to connect the Power+RS232 to the
computer (P1 connector).
 Use a 9V to 12V DC power supply, 500mA m n.
(not prov ded) to power the Power+RS232 board
(J1 jack).

Serial operation using a custom cable
A custom cable can be manufactured for ser al
operat on d rectly on CrazyWr ter mother board (P2)

TX-RX are RS232 level (+12 / -12 V)
VCC = 5V ±10% - 500mA
For correct operat on, do not use a cable longer than
20cm.

_RESET : Act ve low. If not used, leave th s p n
unconnected, or pulled up to VCC by a 10K res stor.
_FLASH : Used to upgrade the f rmware (Act ve low). In
normal operat on, leave th s p n unconnected, or pulled up
to VCC by a 10K res stor.
You must reset the dev ce after chang ng _FLASH p n level
(apply a low pulse on _RESET, or cycle power).
