Gems Legacy Kettle Instruction Manual
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
WHEN USING ANY ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE, BASIC SAFETY
PRECAUTIONS SHOULD ALWAYS BE FOLLOWED, INCLUDING THE
FOLLOWING:
1 Read all instructions carefully before using the appliance.
2 This appliance is intended for household use only.
It is not suitable for commercial use such as staff
kitchen areas and other working environments.
3 Ensure that the appliance is always placed on a firm and flat
surface, away from the edge of the work top. Do not place the
appliance onto a metal tray or metal surface whilst in use.
Do not place the appliance on, or near, a hot gas or electric
burner or in a heated oven.
4 Keep the kettle, base unit, and mains cable away from the
edges of work tops and out of reach of children. Route the
cable so it does not overhang, and cannot be tripped over
or caught.
5 Do not let the cable run across an open space, such as
between a low socket and a table, or across any hot area, such
as cooker. Heat may damage the mains cable.
6 Do not use the kettle in a bathroom, near water,
or outdoors. Do not immerse any of the parts
(appliance, mains cable, plug) in water or other
liquids to protect against fire, electric shock and
personal injury.
7 The top of the base unit should always be kept dry,
especially around connection area. Before drying disconnect
the power supply; ensure that the base unit is completely
dry before you reconnect the appliance to power supply.
8 The connections on both sides of the mains cable (the
appliance and socket) should never be strained. If the mains
cable is damaged it must be replaced by qualified person or
service to avoid any hazards.
9 This appliance must only be used by or under the
supervision of a responsible adult. Use and store it
out of reach of children.
10 Pour water out of the kettle slowly and carefully, do not
overtilt or tip the kettle too fast to prevent spillage and
splashing. Remove the kettle from the base unit before
filling or pouring.
11 Do not move the kettle when it is switched on. Use extreme
caution when moving a kettle containing hot water.
12 Do not switch the kettle on unless it contains at least two cups
of water. Avoid filling it up above the MAX mark to prevent the
hot water spewing out. Remove the kettle from the base unit
before you fill it with water.
13 Always close the lid and have the filter in place before
you switch the kettle on. Do not open the lid whilst the
water is boiling. Avoid contact with steam while the water is
boiling and after the kettle is switched off.
14 Use the handle and knobs on the appliance and avoid
touching any hot surfaces.
15 The switch should never be held fixed in the ON position
as this may cause damage to the switch-off mechanism.
16 Do not remove the kettle off from the base unit without
switching it off first. Unplug the stand when not in use.
17 Unplug the appliance from the socket before cleaning or
removing any parts. Ensure that the kettle is completely cooled
down before cleaning and storing away. Keep the kettle, base
unit, cable, and plug away from sources of heat.
18 Do not use the kettle for any purpose other than
heating water.
19 Use the kettle only with the base unit supplied (and vice versa)
and do not tamper with the connector in any way.
20 This appliance must not be operated by an external timer or a
remote control system.
21 Do not use the kettle if it is damaged or malfunctions. Do not
leave the appliance unattended whilst in use.
FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY
SCALDING
A SCALD HAZARD CAN LAST FOR LONG TIME AFTER BOILING. TAKE
CARE WHEN OPENING THE LID AS STEAM WILL ESCAPE FROM THE
OPENING. IF THIS DOES HAPPEN RUN COLD WATER OVER THE
AFFECTED AREA IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT STOP TO REMOVE CLOTHING
AND GET MEDICAL HELP QUICKLY.
BEFORE FIRST USE
Fill to the MAX mark, boil, discard the water, then rinse. Do this
3 times, to remove manufacturing dust, etc. Ensure that electrical
connections are completely dry before using the appliance.
SAFE HANDLING
1 Pour water from the kettle slowly, this to prevent splashing
and scalding with the hot water.
2 Fill the water through the spout whenever possible, to help
free the filter from limescale build-up. There should always
be minimum amount of water in the kettle before you switch it
on (MIN mark on the water level indicator ). Boil only the
necessary amount of water at the time as this can save electricity.

CARE & MAINTENANCE
SWITCHING ON
1 Place the kettle on the base unit . Make sure that the kettle
is locked on to the 360˚ connector, which allows the kettle to
be put in any position (ideal for left and right handed users).
2 Plug the stand into a power socket (switch the socket on, if
it is applicable).
3 Switch the kettle ON. The water level indicator will light
up and the kettle will start heating up the water.
SWITCHING OFF
1 Once the water is boiled the kettle will automatically
switch off.
2 Lift the kettle from the base unit and hold it level to avoid
splashing the hot water. To boil the water again, place it back
on the base unit and switch to ON again (wait for a minute
after the kettle has switched off before switching it on again).
3 If there is not enough water in the kettle or if it is empty, it
will switch the power off automatically. To switch it back on,
refill the kettle and wait a few minutes for it to cool down.
Then use as normal. Using insufficient water will shorten the
life of the appliance.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
BEFORE CLEANING ALWAYS CHECKTHAT THE KETTLE IS SWITCHED OFF
AND HAS COMPLETELY COOLED DOWN.
1 Unplug the base unit (switch the socket off first, if
applicable) and let the kettle cool completely.
2 Wipe the kettle, inside and out, with a damp cloth. Do not
use abrasive cleaners on the outside of the appliance to avoid
scratching the surface.
3 Ensure that all connectors and sockets are completely dry.
DESCALE - EVEN IN SOFT WATER AREAS
1 This appliance is fitted with concealed heating element
and must be descaled regularly. The frequency of descaling
depends on usage and water hardness. Excessive scale
causes overheating, reduces the kettle’s life, and may trigger
the boil-dry cut-out, as well as damage to the element which
invalidates the warranty.
2 Use appropriate descaling product suitable for stainless steel,
glass or plastic and follow the provided instructions carefully.
3 Products returned under warranty with faults due
to scale will be subject to a repair charge.
WIRING
This appliance must be earthed. Should
the power cable or the power plug
become damaged, arrange for these
to be replaced by Customer Service
or qualified person before continuing to use the
appliance. This appliance is fitted with a 13A BS1362
fuse in a 13A BS 1363 plug.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
To avoid environmental and health problems due to
hazardous substances in electrical and electronic goods,
appliances marked with this symbol must not be disposed of with
unsorted municipal waste, but recovered, reused or recycled.
SERVICE
The product is not user-serviceable. If it is not working, read the
instructions, check the plug fuse and main fuse/circuit breaker.
If it is still not working, consult your retailer. If that does not solve
the problem – ring Customer Service – they may be able to offer
technical advice. Please have the Model Number to hand, as they
will not be able to help you without it. If you are advised to return
the product to us, pack it carefully, include a note with your name,

If under a warranty, say where and when it was purchased and
include a valid VAT receipt. Send it to SQ Professional Ltd.
