Toavoidpersonalinjuryorpropertydamageuseextremecareinhan-
dlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremelyflammableandthe vaporsare

Operation
1. Donotput handsandfeet nearrotatingpartsorin thefeedingchambers
anddischargeopening.Contactwith the rotatingimpellercanamputate
fingers,hands,andfeet.
2. Beforestartingthe machine,makesurethechipperchute,feedintake,
andcuttingchamberareemptyandfreeofall debris.
3. Thoroughlyinspectall materialto beshreddedandremoveanymetal,
rocks,bottles,cans,or otherforeignobjectswhichcouldcausepersonal
injuryordamageto themachine.
4. If it becomesnecessaryto pushmaterialthroughthe shredderhopper,
usea smalldiameterstick.Donot useyourhandsor feet.
5. Ifthe impellerstrikesa foreignobjectorif your machineshouldstart
makingan unusualnoiseorvibration, immediatelyshutthe engineoff.
Allow the impellertocometoa completestop. Disconnectthe spark
plugwire, groundit againstthe engineandperformthefollowing steps:
a. Inspectfor damage.
b. Repairor replaceanydamagedparts.
c. Checkfor anyloosepartsandtightentoassurecontinued
safeoperation.
6. Donotallow anaccumulationofprocessedmaterialto buildupin the
dischargearea.Thiscanpreventproperdischargeandresultin kickback
ofmaterialthroughthe feedopening.
7. Donotattempttoshredor chipmateriallargerthanspecifiedonthe
machineor in this manual.Personalinjuryormachinedamagecould
result.
8. Neverattemptto unclogeitherthefeedintakeordischargeopening
while theengineisrunning.Shutthe engineoff,wait until all moving
partshavestopped,disconnectthe sparkplugwire andgroundit against
theenginebeforeclearingdebris.
9. Neveroperatewithoutthe shredderfunnel,chipperchute,ordischarge
chuteproperlyattachedtothe machine.Neveremptyor changedis-
chargebagwhile theengineisrunning.
10. Keepallguards,deflectorsandsafetydevicesin placeandoperating
properly.
11. Keepyourface andbodybackandtothe sideof thechipperchutewhile
feedingmaterialintothemachineto avoidaccidentalkickbackinjuries.
12. Neveroperatethis machinewithout goodvisibility or light.
13. Donotoperatethis machineona paved,gravelor non-levelsurface.
14. Donotoperatethis machinewhile underthe influenceofalcoholor
drugs.
15. Muffler andenginebecomehot andcancauseaburn.Donot touch.
16. Neverpickupor carrymachinewhile the engineis running.

IMPORTANT:Thisunitisshippedwithout gasolineor oil in theengine.Be
certainto fill the enginewith gasolineandoil asinstructedbeforeoperating
yourmachine.
Requiredtools: A Philips headscrew driver
1. Remove the chipper from its carton
Remove staples, break glue on top flaps, or cut tape at carton end and peel
along top flap to open carton.

• Thefirst stepisto attachthe 2 handlesto thesidesof thefunnelusing
thewrenchprovidedanda Phillipsheadscrewdriver(Figure3). Tighten
thenutssecurely.
• Thesecondstepisto placethe funneloverthe openingonthechipper
box,ensuringthe rubbergasketis correctlyaligned. Securethe funnel
usingthe two "swing upbolts" andtheonefixedbolt usingthe wrench
provided.Tightenthe nutssecurely(Figure4).

Inthe Stateof Californiaa sparkarrestorisrequiredbylaw. Otherstatesmay
havesimilarlaws. Federallawsapplyonall federallands. Ifyouequipthe
muffler with asparkarrestor,it mustbemaintainedineffectiveworkingorder.
Rapidretractionof the recoil startercord canpull the startercord
back fasterthanyoucan let go. When startingthe engine,pull the
cord slowlyuntil resistance isfeltthen pull rapidlyto avoidkickback.
The engineexhaustfromthis productcontainschemicals knownto
the StateofCaliforniatocausecancer, birthdefectsorotherrepro-
ductiveharm.

WARNING: The operationof any chippershredder can result in for-
eignobjectsbeingthrown intothe eyes,which can damageyoureyes
severely.Always wear the safety glasses providedwith this unit or
eye shields before chipping or shreddingand while performingany
adjustmentsor repairs.
Always usethe proper personalsafetyequipmentbefore startingthis
machine:
1. Earprotection
2. Gloves
3. Eyeprotection
Add GasolineandOil
Step1:Addgasoline
Step2:Addapproximately1.1quartsof 10W-30oil (5W-30is recommended
for coldweatherclimate)untilthe oil isaboutto overflowfromthe oilfill
spout. A low oil sensorwill preventthe enginefrom runningunlessthe oil is
COMPLETELYFULL.
Ensure both oil fill plugs on the engine are secure after
filling.
WARNING: Never fill fuel tank indoors with engine runningor until
the engine has been allowed to cool for at least two minutesafter
running.
Startingthe Engine
Step3: Attachsparkplugwire tosparkplug.Makecertainthemetalcapon
theendofthe sparkplugisfastenedsecurelyoverthe metaltip onthespark
plug.
Step4: MovechokeleveronenginetoCHOKEposition.(Awarmenginemay
not requirechoking).
Step5: Turnthefuelvalvetothe ONposition.
Step6: Recoilstart:Graspstarterhandleandpullropeout slowlyuntilen-
ginereachesstartof compressioncycle(ropewill pullslightlyharderatthis
point). Pullropewith a rapid,continuous,full armstroke.Keepa firm gripon
starterhandle.Letthe roperewindslowly. Repeatthe previousstepsuntil
enginefires. Donot pull formorethan4times betweenintervals.
Step7: Electricstart: FollowStep3to Step5,thenplugany120Voutdoor
extensioncordintothe 120VExtensionCordConnection(SeeFigure6),and
thenpushthe RedStarterButtonto startthe engine.Donotrunstartermore
than10timesat intervalsof5secondsOn/5 secondsOff.
Step8: Whenenginestarts,movechokecontrolgraduallytothe RUNposi-
tion.(SeeFigure7)

Usingthe ChipperShredder
Yardwastesuchasleavesandpineneedlescanberakedupandplacedinthefunnel
assemblyfor shredding.DO NOTPUTBRANCHESINTOTHETOPFUN-
NEL. BRANCHESSHOULDBEFEDINTOTHESIDECHIPPERCHUTE.
If usingthe side chipperchuteto chip branches,it isimportant to let
thechipperfeed the branchesthroughautomatically. DONOTat-
temptto forcethe branchesthrough. Ifthe branchesdonotautomati-
cally feedthrough,gentlypushthe branchandthenallow the chipper
toautomaticallyfeedthe branchthrough. Forcingbranchesintothe
sidechute maywear the belt prematurely.
Afterthe materialhasbeenshreddedbythe flail bladesonthe impeller
assembly,it will bedischargedout ofopeningor intochipcatcherbag.
Donotattempttoshredor chipanymaterialotherthanvegetationfoundin a
normalyard(i.e.branches,leaves,twigs,etc.) Avoidfibrousplantssuchas
tomatovinesuntiltheyarethoroughlydriedout.Twigsandsmallbranchesup
to4" in diametercanbefed intothe chipperchute.
IMPORTANT:Theflail screenis locatedinsidethehousinginthe discharge
area.If theflail screenbecomesclogged,removeandcleanasinstructed.For
bestperformance,it is alsoimportanttokeepthechipperbladesharp.
ToEmptythe ChipBag
• Stoptheengine.
• Release the drawstring and remove the bag from the discharge chute.
• Empty bag and reattach to the discharge chute opening.

ToChangeorTightenthe Belt:
Note,thebelt isdesignedtobethe weakestlink in themechanicallinkage
betweenthe engineandtheblades.This improvesthesafetyanddurability
ofthe chippershredder.Occasionallybelttighteningandbeltchangeswill be
required.
Tochangethe beltperformthefollowing:
• Stoptheengineandmakecertainthe chippershredderhascometo a
completestop. Disconnectthesparkplugwirefromsparkplugand
groundagainstthe engine.
• Removethebelt guard.
• Tochangethe belt,prythe beltoff a pulleyusingascrewdrivershaft as
awedgeasyourotatethe pulley. Inasimilarfashion,a newbelt canbe
placedonthe pulleys.
Totightenthetensiononthe pulleys,follow the abovestepsplus:
1. Scribeamarkonthebaseplatealongthe edgeofthe engine.
2. Removethe beltfromthe pulleys.
3. Removethe handle,dischargechuteandscreen.
4. Loosenthe 4 boltssecuringthe engine.
5. Slidetheengineabout1/8" furtherback.
6. Tightentheenginemountingboltssecurely.
7. Re-installthe beltandverifythe tension. If the belt isstilltoo
loose,movethe enginebackanother1/8" byrepeatingthe
abovesteps.

ToRemove,SharpenorAdd Chipper
Blades:
Yourchipperwassentwith onebladeattachedanda sparebladein the hard-
warebag. Thebelt life will beextendedby operatingthechipperwith a sharp
bladeatatime.
• Disconnectthesparkplugwireandgroundagainstthe engine.
• Removethebladeaccesshatch androtatethebladeto alignwith the
accesshatch.
• Removetheflail screeninthe dischargechuteby removingthepinsthat
secureit atthe topandbottomof thescreen.
• Removethebladeusinga3/16" allenwrenchonthe outsideofthe
bladeandanadjustablewrenchonthe impellerassembly(throughthe
dischargechute). Apieceofpipeorwood shouldbeusedto blockthe
flails, preventingthemfrominadvertentlyturning.
• Add,replaceorsharpenthe bladesas desired.
• Whensharpeningthe blade,protecthandsbyusingglovesandfollow
theoriginalangleofgrind.Also,makesureto removeanequalamount
fromeachbladeandtorqueto 250- 300in.Ibs.
