Hardware Installation
WARNING! PCI Express cards, like all computer equipment, can be severely damaged
by static electricity. Be sure that you are properly grounded before opening your
computer case or touching your PCI Express card. StarTech.com recommends that you
wear an anti-static strap when installing any computer component. If an anti-static
strap is unavailable, discharge yourself of any static electricity build-up by touching a
large grounded metal surface (such as the computer case) for several seconds. Also be
careful to handle the PCI Express card by its edges and not the gold connectors.
1. Turn your computer o and any peripherals connected to the computer (i.e. Printers,
external hard drives, etc.). Unplug the power cable from the rear of the power
supply on the back of the computer and disconnect all peripheral devices.
2. Remove the cover from the computer case. See documentation for your computer
system for details.
3. Locate an open PCI Express x4 slot and remove the metal cover plate on the rear of
the computer case (Refer to documentation for your computer system for details)
Note: This card will work in PCI Express slots of additional lanes (i.e. x8, or x16 slots).

4. Gently insert the card into the open PCI Express slot and fasten the bracket to the
rear of the case.
Note: If installing the card into a small form factor/low prole system, replacing the
pre-installed full prole bracket with the included low prole installation bracket
may be necessary.
5. Place the cover back onto the computer case.
6. Insert the power cable into the socket on the power supply and reconnect all other
connectors removed in Step 1.
Driver Installation
Windows
1. Upon starting Windows, if the Found New Hardware dialog appears on the screen,
cancel/close the window and insert the included Driver CD into the computer’s CD/
DVD drive.
2. From the main desktop or start menu, right-click on Computer then select Manage.
Windows 8.1 users can right click on the Start button and click Device Manager.
3. In the Computer Management Window, select Device Manager from the left window
panel.
4. Expand the Other Devices section, and right-click on the newly detected“Ethernet
Controller” device and select Update Driver Software, which will start the Update
Driver Software Wizard.

5. On the How do you want to search for driver software Window, click Browse my
computer for driver software, then Let me pick from a list of device drivers on
my computer.

6. From the next screen labeled Select your device’s type from the list below, select Show
All Devices (should be highlighted by default), and then click Next.
Note: This screen does not appear on all systems, move on to the next step if this
does not apply.
7. On the Select the Device Driver you want to install for this hardware screen, click the
Have Disk button.
8. Click Browse from the Install from Disk dialog box that pops up.
9. From the Locate File dialog window that opens, navigate to your CD/DVD Drive, and
open the ST10000SPEX folder location.
Note: If you have downloaded drivers from the www.startech.com website,
navigate to where you extracted the downloaded driver package.
10.Select the TN40xxmp_.inf le, and then click the Open button.

11.Click the OK button on the Install From Disk dialog box which will close the window.
12.Once back at the Select the Device Driver you want to install for this hardware screen,
click Next and then Close once the driver has installed.

13.At this point of the install, you may receive a message pop-up stating Windows can’t
verify the publisher of this driver software, click Install this driver software anyway.

Verifying Installation
Windows
1. From the main desktop or start menu, right-click on“Computer”then select
“Manage.”
2. In the Computer Management window, select Device Manager from the left
window panel. Windows 8.1 users can right click on the Start button and click
Device Manager.
3. Under the Network Adapters category should be a “Tehuti Networks 10GbE Adapter”
device. Right-click on the device and select Properties to make sure it is installed
and working correctly.
