Th ‘ NEW LINE ’ 35mm St nb ck film tabl is a compl t N w G n ration of
Film and Sound controlling an vi wing tabl s.
This N w G n ration has b n sp cially d v lop d for th film archiv s and
film labs.
With this n w s ri s St nb ck r ach d a v ry high standard with maximum
of s cur film handling and transport. Changing th sprock ts for shrunk n
film mat rial is now possibl within a f w minut s.
2.0 GENERAL DATA:

3.0 TECHNICAL DATA:
PICTURE

Accurat film transport is achi v d by r volving sprock ts on th l ft and right
sid of th polygon.
Th l ft sprock t is spring driv n, guarant ing a smooth and car ful film
transport and a v ry good pictur st adin ss.
With th ‘N w Lin ’ S ri s it is possibl to chang sprock ts within a minut
for shrunk n film (optional).

Th r is a possibility that th pictur st adin ss with shrunk n film sprock ts
is poor r.
Framing is possibl in running mod .
Mor ov r, with th ‘N w Lin ’ it is now possibl to hav thr pictur /imag

4.0 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS:

( 50ºF and 90ºF)
Humidity should b approx. b tw n 40% and 70%.
A high r humidity can also caus corrosion on l ctronic contacts.
IMPORTANT:

Liquid spill, wh n l aking into th machin , can caus gr at damag and can

6.1 GENERAL OVERVIEW
Th ‘NEW LINE’ STEENBECK is a high quality film vi wing and controlling
tabl for motion pictur and p rforat d magn tic sound film and sp cifically
d sign d for film archiv s and film laboratori s.
Th most important goal of this n w d sign is to vi w and transport fragil film
and sound mat rial in th b st possibl way with a minimal amount of physical
w ar.
With th s tabl s films can b ch ck d for any kind of d gr of scratch s,
fading of colour and optical or magn tic sound.
Th driv and sound syst m is proc ssor controll d.
Th s proc ssors can b align d for us rs’ sp cification.
Wh n th film br aks or at th nd of th film th tabl will stop automatically
as it’s d t ct d by s nsors.
Th film plat s of th dis ngag d MAG tracks (ST3514-ST3516 only) will also
stop turning.
Standard Bi-phas 50 Hz output for synchronising (mast r only)

Pictur r production is don via an optical comp nsation syst m with an
highly rat d 18 fac r volving prism.
Two r volving sprock ts nsur of an accurat transport, a smooth and car ful

A third sprock t is for th COMOPT sound r production.
All thr sprock ts can b r plac d by sp cial sprock ts for shrunk n film
within a minut . Th r ar two kits availabl .
Th lighting syst m is quipp d with a 12V – 100W halog n lamp.
Th proj ction lamp and th cond ns r syst m with h at filt r ar fitt d in a
quickly r movabl syst m nabling v ry asy r plac m nt of brok n lamps.
Light is automatically r duc d wh n th film transport is stopp d, which allows
vi wing of th film fram for an unlimit d tim without causing any damag .
Th proj ction syst m is fitt d with highly polish d front surfac coat d
mirrors. A hard ov r coating nsur s long lif with constant pictur quality.
Th sp cial clos grain d scr n is of a sp cial plastic to nsur maximum
vi w quality within a vi wing angl of approximat ly 70º.

Sound syst m can b controll d by th touch scr n (TS).
Ev ry pr -amplifi r for optical and / of magn tic sound can b s l ct d by th
touch scr n m nu. Fad rs for volum , tr bl , bass and balanc ar availabl .
Each pr amplifi r has two chann ls / st r o, can b s t in mono and mut .
Th mix of th pr -amplifi rs is availabl on th balanc d XLR +4dB outputs.
An xtra RCA -10dB input is availabl for mixing or monitoring an xt rnal
analogu audio sourc .
Th summing amplifi r is fitt d with th mast r volum control for audio
including tr bl , bass and balanc of this signal.
A high quality pow r amplifi r with 40 W output and 2 way compact
loudsp ak rs guarant s an xc ll nt sound r production.
R production of 4-chann l COMMAG films and s parat (SEPOPT) 35mm
sound film or sound n gativ s is also possibl as an option.
Audio playback is automatically mut d wh n th tabl runs mor than 30 f.p.s..
Th St nb ck Univ rsal count r is standard quipm nt.
This count r for all formats m asur s all film l ngth, laps d tim and fram s
and is abl to conv rt v ry count imm diat ly into anoth r count.
Within th univ rsal count r display is also monitor d:
- th xacts running sp d of th film.
- m asur m nt of th MAG 1 sound track, by switching.
- Vario sp d is activ .
- th s l ct d synchronous sp d.
- th pictur -sound shift advanc / r tard fram s
( for ST3514-ST3516 only).
Th univ rsal count r syst m is op rat d mainly from th touch scr n m nu
which also has a film format calculator and transf r counts to a cu ing syst m.
Th advanc and r tard syst m for sound tap (only on MAG 1 of ST3514 and
ST3516) can b op rat d at all sp ds by a diff r ntial g ar.
By using th advanc and r tard switch th sync mod can b match d to
within on t th of a fram or aft r switching ov r in singl fram in ith r
dir ction to th pictur . This nabl s in a short tim xact p rforation
synchronisation.
Th touch scr n is th op ration c ntr of th ‘N w Lin ’ St nb ck.
This touch scr n giv s th op rator of th tabl som int r sting tools:

6.2 WORKING WITH THE NEW LINE STEENBECK
Conn ct th St nb ck to pow r as d scrib d in s ction 3.0 and 4.0.
Pl as tak car that th pow r conn ctor at th tabl is s cur d with th
saf ty clamping d vis at th fram .
Always ch ck if th pow r is according to th giv n voltag and fr qu ncy,
which can b found on th typ and s rial numb r plat at th back of th
fram .
Always ch ck that th grounding of th pow r sock t is corr ct.
Without a prop r grounding, th op rator might b at dang r.
Us a fr pow r group of at l ast 16 Amps.
Switch th pow r ON with th main pow r switch (16).
A part of th l ctronics of th tabl will go in standby and th fan will start
moving.
Th push button 23 (standby) will show a RED light.
Wh n th standby button (23) is push d th light will turn to GREEN and th
tabl will start up in s v ral stag s in a short tim .
B for switching OFF, it’s advis d to always switch off th sub functions (27-
32-33-34-35) off first and th n th Standby button 23. Finally th main pow r
switch 15 can b switch d off.
Aft r switching ON th proc ssor th touch scr n (TS) is activat d too.
Aft r a short tim you will h ar a ‘p p’ and th hom pag m nu can b s n.
Now th tabl is r ady for us and all th n d d sub-functions can b chos n
now.
It’s advis d to switch on only sub-functions which ar n d d.
Th sound is also activat d aft r switching on.
If you don’t n d sound, th n pl as always MUTE th mast r sound control.
( s s ction 6.3 ) If you int nd to us on sound sourc , pl as tak car that
oth r pr -amps ar mut d.
FILM THREADING.
Thr ading of th film is don as xplain d in fig. 29 – 30 - 31 .
Th l ft hand sprock t has a spring, nabling th film ton b s t with th
corr ct t nsion in combination with th right hand sprock t.
Always ch ck th t nsion b for running th tabl !! Th film can g t damag d!
Wh n a film with optical sound has to b vi w d thr at th film as shown in
fig.29 .
Now push button 37 ( t nsion COMPOPT) and th t nsion roll r 58 can b
dis ngag d.
Align th film now by pulling th film to th right giving a margin of at l ast
on p rforation at th t nsion roll r.
K p th film at that spot and ngag again with button 37.
