LIMITED WARRANTY
STORCASE TECHNOLOGY, Incorporated (StorCase) warrants t at its products will be free
from defects in material and workmans ip, subject to t e conditions and limitations set fort
below. StorCase will, at its option, eit er repair or replace any part of its product t at proves
defective by reason of improper workmans ip or materials. Repair parts or replacement
products will be provided by StorCase on an exc ange basis, and will be eit er new or
reconditioned to be functionally equivalent to new.
T is warranty does not cover any product damage t at results from accident, abuse, misuse,
natural or personal disaster, external power surge or failure, or any unaut orized disassem-
bly, repair or modification. StorCase will not be responsible for any software, firmware or ot er
customer data stored wit in, or interfacing wit a StorCase product.
Duration of Warranty
Seven-Year Warranty: T e following StorCase products are covered by t is warranty for
a period of seven (7) years from t e original date of purc ase from StorCase or its aut orized
reseller: all Data Express® removable device enclosures and all StorCase interface cables and
accessories specifically intended for use wit t ese products. Data Silo®, Data Stacker® and
InfoStation® products are covered by t is warranty for a period of seven (7) years, excepting
t e RAID controller, power supply, fan and blower components, w ic are covered by t e
t ree-year warranty described below.
Three-Year Warranty: T e following StorCase products are covered by t is warranty for
a period of t ree (3) years from t e original date of purc ase from StorCase or its aut orized
reseller: all R ino®JR external expansion c assis, all R inoJR removable drive enclosures,
and all RAID controller modules. In addition, t e following components of t e Data Express,
Data Silo, Data Stacker, InfoStation products are subject to warranty for a period of t ree (3)
years: all power supplies, fans and blowers.
Warranty Claim Requirements
To obtain warranty service, t e defective product must be returned to your local aut orized
StorCase dealer or distributor, or, wit prior StorCase approval, to t e StorCase factory
service center.
For defective products returned directly to StorCase, a Return Material Aut orization (RMA)
number must be obtained by calling StorCase Customer Service at (714) 445-3455. T e RMA
number must be prominently displayed on t e outside of t e return package. S ipments must
be freig t-prepaid and insured, and must include t e product serial number, a detailed
description of t e problem experienced, and proof of t e original retail purc ase date. Products
must be properly packaged to prevent damage in transit. Damage resulting from improper
packaging will not be covered by t is warranty. T e StorCase factory service center is located
at 17650 New ope Street, Receiving Dock, Gate #4, Fountain Valley, CA 92780, U.S.A.

T e StorCase Tec nology Data Silo® external expansion c assis is s ipped in a container
designed to provide protection and prevent damage during s ipment. T e Data Silo was
carefully inspected before and during t e packing procedure at t e factory. Evidence of any
damage to t e Data Silo s ould be reported to t e s ipper immediately.
If t e wrong Data Silo model as been received, please call your reseller or StorCase at (800)
435-0642 to arrange for a Return Material Aut orization (RMA). StorCase cannot accept
returns w ic do not display an RMA number on t e outside of t e package. Return t e unit
wit all t e original packing materials.
Before removing any component from its packaging, disc arge any static electricity by
touc ing a properly grounded metal object.
Ser al Number
T e DS100 is labeled wit a serial number. T is number must be reported to t e StorCase
Customer Service Representative in order to receive a Return Material Aut orization (RMA)
for warranty claims. Locate t e serial number label and record t e number in t e space
provided below.

NOTE: T e Ultra320 DS100 does not support daisy-c aining.
T e StorCase Tec nology Data Silo® Ultra320 DS100 series of stand-alone expansion
c assis provide rugged and reliable ousing for SCSI Ultra320 storage devices. T is line of
storage enclosures is available in various versions, supporting 3.5" and 5.25" form factor, full-
eig t, alf- eig t, and low profile (1" ig ) devices.
T e DS100 is available in single, dual, and quad bay configurations (Figure 1). Eac c assis
is constructed of rugged steel and is equipped wit auto-switc ing power supply(ies), power-
on and drive status LEDs, ig ly-rated cooling fan(s), and all necessary internal wiring and
mounting ardware. Removable front filler panel(s) facilitate t e mounting of fixed media
devices.
T e DS100 U320 is available wit one (1) 68-pin VHDCI (for SCSI Ultra320) connector only.
All DS100 models come wit externally mounted SCSI ID selection switc (es) for easy unit
ID selection.

T is User's Guide describes t e steps required for installing drive(s) into t e Data Silo DS100
external expansion c assis. T e illustrations and instructions contained in t is manual are
generally representative of all Data Silo DS100 models. Your Data Silo may differ slig tly from
t e illustrations s own. Alt oug eac Data Silo model contains different drive bay or I/O
configurations, t e installation process is basically t e same for all models.
T is guide is intended to supplement documentation provided wit t e ost computer system,
t e operating system, and t e drive(s) to be installed wit in t e Data Silo. Figure 2 below
illustrates a typical drive installation into a Data Silo DS100 external expansion c assis.

SCSI ID Select Switch(es) - Provide SCSI ID selection. T e DS100 uses one (1),
two (2), or four (4) rotating switc es depending on model (refer to Selecting the
SCSI ID Number for additional information).
Fuse - A fuse located on t e rear panel protects t e DS100 circuitry (refer to Ap-
pendix B for fuse removal and installation information).
Power Switch - Provides power to t e DS100 c assis.
A/C Connector - Accepts U.S. and ot er available international standard power
cables. Contact StorCase for furt er ordering information.
I/O Connector - T e DS100 is available wit one (1) 68-pin VHDCI (for SCSI
Ultra320) connector.

INSTALLATION
NOTE: T e Ultra320 DS100 does not support daisy-c aining.
Install ng the Dr ve(s) nto the DS100
W ile performing t e steps in t is section, work on a soft surface to prevent excessive s ock
to t e drive(s) being installed. Also refer to t e manufacturer's documentation provided wit
t e drive(s). A #2 P illips and a flat blade screwdriver will be required.
Remov ng the DS100 Cover
WARNING: Remove ALL power from t e Data Silo before removing t e cover. T e Data Silo
contains NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS inside t e unit.
1. Unplug t e DS100 and verify t at ALL cables ave been disconnected.
2. Turn t e DS100 over and place it on a soft clean surface, so t at t e bottom is facing
upward.
3. Loosen t e two (2) screws located on t e bottom of t e unit. T e DS100 4-bay cover
uses a t ird, center screw. Remove it completely from t e bottom of t e c assis.
4. Place t e DS100 in an uprig t position so t at it rests on its four rubber feet.
5. Remove t e screw(s) located on t e rear panel of t e c assis as s own in Figure 5.
6. Carefully slide t e top cover forward and off t e c assis (Figure 6).

1. Remove t e drive from its protective packaging.
2. Plastic Drive Bezel - If installing a ard drive w ic is equipped wit a plastic front
bezel, remove t e drive bezel.
3. SCSI Drive Termination - Disable SCSI termination from t e drive. Refer to t e
documentation provided by t e drive manufacturer for t e location of t ese terminators
or jumpers. Termination is provided by an internal terminator on t e DS100.
4. SCSI Drive ID Select Jumpers - Locate t e SCSI ID select jumper pins on t e drive,
and remove any jumpers on t ese pins. T e DS100 SCSI ID cable will be attac ed to
t ese pins on eac drive (Figures 7 & 8).
5. SCSI ID Cable - Eac DS100 is supplied wit one SCSI ID select cable per drive bay.
T e ID cable permits external unit ID selection via a small switc located on t e rear
panel of t e DS100 (Figure 4). One end of t is cable attac es to t e drive SCSI ID pins
and t e ot er end attac es to t e DS100 unit ID select switc . T e cable is designed
to connect to drives wit 2mm ID select pins.
NOTE: Depending upon t e model, t e DS100 uses one of two different types of SCSI ID
select switc connectors. One connector contains 0.1" pin spacing wit a
matc ing SCSI ID cable. T e ot er type of SCSI ID connector contains 2mm pin
spacing wit a matc ing SCSI ID cable (Figures 7 & 8).

IF INSTALLING A 8-BIT SCSI DEVICE:
T e unit ID cable contains black, brown, red/black, and orange wires. Attac t ree (3)
connectors from t e SCSI ID select cable to t e appropriate 2mm drive pins (Figure 7). T e
fourt (orange) wire is not used for t e 8-bit installation.
T e single black wire plugs into t e drive pin used to select ID1, t e brown wire plugs into
t e drive pin for ID2, t e red/black wire plugs into t e drive pin for ID4. T e orange wire
is not used for t is interface.
In most cases, t e drive manufacturer labels eac pair of SCSI ID select pins in significant bit
order (0, 1, and 2). One row of drive pins is t e signal row, and one row is designated for
ground (refer to t e drive manufacturer's documentation for specific pin configurations).
T e DS100 ID select cable provides 2mm, 2-conductor drive connectors. A single wire
attac es to one side of eac connector (wit t e exception of t e red/black connector). T e
cable side of eac connector must align wit t e signal pin on t e drive. On t e red/black
connector, t e red wire aligns wit t e signal pin on t e drive and t e black wire aligns wit
t e ground pin.
NOTE: Some versions of t e Data Silo ave a reversible ID select cable. T is cable may
be attac ed to eit er 2mm or 1.25mm drive pins.

IF INSTALLING A 16-BIT SCSI DEVICE:
T e unit ID cable contains black, brown, red/black, and orange wires. Attac four (4)
connectors from t e SCSI ID select cable to t e appropriate 2mm drive pins (Figure 8).
T e single black wire plugs into t e drive pin used to select ID1, t e brown wire plugs into
t e drive pin for ID2, t e red/black wire plugs into t e drive pin for ID4 and t e orange wire
plugs into t e drive pin to select ID8.

T e process of installing a drive into t e DS100 c assis varies slig tly, depending upon t e
model. DS100 1-bay and 2-bay models require t e removal of t e drive mounting bracket to
access drive mounting screws. T e DS100 4-bay does not require t e removal of t e drive
mounting bracket.
IF INSTALLING A DRIVE INTO THE DS100 1-BAY OR DS100 2-BAY:
1. Turn t e DS100 over and place it on a soft clean surface, so t at t e bottom is facing
upward.
2. Loosen but do not remove t e four (4) screws t at secure t e drive mounting bracket
to t e DS100 c assis (Figure 10).
3. Place t e DS100 in an uprig t position so t at it rests on its four rubber feet.
4. Remove t e drive mounting bracket from t e c assis by sliding it toward t e c assis
back panel, t en lifting upward.

5. If installing any 3.5" devices into t e DS100, attac t e 3.5" adapter brackets (included)
to t e drives before installing t em into t e drive mounting bracket (Figure 11). T e
adapter brackets can be attac ed to t e drive wit four (4) #6-32 P illips screws.
6. Attac t e drive activity and drive fault LED cables to t e appropriate drive pins (refer
to t e device manufacturer's documentation for t e location of t ese pins).
