GeneralDescription
The StorCase® Techno ogy InfoStation® inte igent 3U rack-mount expansion chassis is
designed to support the atest high-density, high-speed 2Gbps/1Gbps Fibre ChanneI disk
drive techno ogies for use in network server, fau t-to erant and/or mission-critica app ica-
tions. The InfoStation is designed to support 3.5" form factor, ow profi e (1" high) Fibre
Channe drives.
The InfoStation's dua backp ane design can accommodate up to fourteen (14) Fibre Channe
drives (Figure 1) and up to four (4) Fibre Channe Arbitrated Loops (FC-ALs) with 2Gbps
operation. Each chassis is constructed of rugged stee and ightweight a uminum, and is
equipped with either one (1) or two (2) 650 watt redundant, hot-swappab e power supp y/
b ower modu es, and a User Interface designed to provide visua chassis feedback.
The InfoStation options inc ude an FC Port Bypass Modu e and Sma Form-Factor P uggab e
(SFP) Modu es, for quad FC oop configurabi ity. Additiona PBP and SFP modu es are avai ab e
to accommodate a variety of configurations, interfaces, and app ications. Refer to Appendix
B for further information on optiona InfoStation accessories.
The InfoStation a so incorporates "Soft Start" circuitry which e iminates in-rush current to each
of the insta ed drives during spin-up, as we as avoid power arcing during drive insertion.
Another unique feature of the InfoStation is the InfoMon® monitoring uti ity program. InfoMon
is a conso e uti ity that provides the InfoStation with web-based monitoring capabi ity via a seria
connection. InfoMon a so provides the User the abi ity to easi y configure both device and
chassis settings with a few c icks of the mouse!
In addition, InfoMon a ows the User to monitor the statuses and temperatures of individua
InfoStation modu es and drive bays, etc., and can provide "rea -time" updates via an Internet
connection. With the recent addition of the InfoMon Ca Home feature, this information can
a so be sent to a specific site for access by StorCase technica support staff in order to assist
with system troub eshooting. The Ca Home feature a so provides the abi ity to set-up a paging
function for notification of environmenta a arm or warning conditions.

accessories.
Using a modu ar approach supported by redundant features and hot swapping capabi ities,
the InfoStation wi provide continued data avai abi ity and a ow for ease of maintenance and
minima system down time.
The modu ar and sca ab e design of the InfoStation chassis a so a ows a variety of future
product upgrades to be offered. Upgrade modu es (providing remote diagnostics capabi ities
and SES or SNMP comp iance) wi a so be avai ab e as options in the near future.
This User's Guide describes the steps required for insta ing drive(s) into the InfoStation
externa expansion chassis. This guide is intended to supp ement documentation provided with
the host computer system, the operating system, and the drive(s) to be insta ed within the
