Desire, driven by four wheels. Long before the first Subaru WRX
laid tracks on American tarmac, it was thrilling crowds of fans on
the street and in World Rally Championships. And blazing a trail
of victory in such exotic locations as Finland, Greece and Monte
Carlo. To those in the know, it is a turbocharged, all-wheel-drive
icon. And now, we introduce the action-packed 2008 Subaru WRX
to an eagerly awaiting world. Reshaped, yes. Reformed, never. The
icon is reborn. The master, remastered.

Sharpened for action. Its 224-hp turbocharged
SUBARU BOXER engine and Symmetrical All-Wheel
Drive are pure WRX. 17" alloys complement its new

of the SUBARU BOXER engine—mounted nearly an
inch lower than before— helps reduce body lean in
curves and sudden maneuvers, for greater control.

to move in exact horizontal opposition, effectively
negating vibrations.Its smoothness not only sweetens

For generations, the Impreza WRX has outrun the compromises of a conventional
approach. Its famed SUBARU BOXER engine is intensified with enhancements
that make every firing of its iridium-tipped spark plugs an explosion of emotion.
Every breath is rush-delivered via intercooled turbocharging and a composite
intake. The resulting 224 horsepower races to all four wheels via your choice of
a crisp-shifting 5-speed manual gearbox, or a versatile 4-speed automatic with
SPORTSHIFT® manual control.

It’s not just what you’ve got, it’s how you use it. When it comes to engine output,
the torque chart is proof of what you can do. The 2008 WRX delivers a mountain
of torque, and now you’ll reach the 226-lb.-ft. peak of performance quicker than
ever. A redesigned turbocharger, intercooler and intake manifold all conspire to
deliver peak torque at just 2,800 rpm— 800 rpm earlier than last year. The result?
Stronger acceleration that you won’t need a dyno or a stopwatch to measure.
The seat of your pants will tell you: You’ve got it. And you know how to use it.
TURBOCHARGER
If it’s a WRX, its not-so-secret weapon is a new
turbocharger that helps to deliver 224 force-fed
horsepower and a broader power band. As always,
the signature hood scoop is the real deal, supply-
ing airflow to a new, lightweight intercooler that
boosts output and response.
5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION
The choice of the driving purist who demands
maximum control. The close-ratio gearbox is fully
synchronized (including reverse) to deliver smooth
and precise shifts. Our advanced Incline Start Assist
electronically holds the brakes for a moment on
uphill starts, to help prevent unwanted rollback.
4-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Balance performance and convenience with the
direct control of the smooth-shifting SPORTSHIFT
automatic. Around town, driver-adaptive program-
ming maximizes fuel economy. In more spirited
driving, the transmission automatically delivers
more enthusiastic shifting response.
ACTIVE VALVE CONTROL SYSTEM
While turbocharging boosts power by pumping
more air into each cylinder, the Subaru Active Valve
Control System (AVCS) makes sure to deliver the
air at precisely the right moment. AVCS adjusts
the intake-valve timing to match the engine rpm,
for better response at any speed.

ACTIVE AWDCONTINUOUS AWD
WRX models equipped with the 5-speed manual
transmission use a viscous-locking center differen-
tial. Should wheel slippage occur, it helps transfer
power with lightning-quick reflexes to the front or
rear wheels with the most traction.
Matched to the 4-speed automatic,the Active AWD
system monitors parameters such as wheel slip-
page and vehicle speed, actively adjusting power to
the front or rear wheels for optimal adhesion.

All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system to keep those four patches of rubber sticking to the road. Its
uniquely balanced configuration helps ensure stability and poise. Its efficiency at transmitting
power delivers greater grip and quick response to slippage. We’ve been perfecting AWD for
over 30 years. So however the road tempts you, you’ll find that the attraction is quite mutual.

HANDLING
Its proving grounds are the most menacing rally courses and challenging
streets all over the world. So it’s no surprise that the Subaru WRX is
legendary for knowing how to take control and put it firmly in the
driver’s hands. We combine our experience in competition with the
natural balance of its engine and drivetrain layout to bring driver,
car and road together in perfect sync. And its agile new suspension,
17" wheels and 4-wheel disc brakes team with Vehicle Dynamics
Control (VDC) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) to deliver
extreme confidence and fun, no matter where in the world you go.
VDC is an electronic stability control system that helps
keep you on your intended path by measuring variables
such as steering input and braking. If the system senses
the vehicle deviating from its intended course, VDC
applies individual brakes and/or reduces engine power
to help keep you safely, and confidently, in control. It’s
standard equipment on every 2008 WRX.

PROVEN IN COMPETITION
Inspired engineers develop inspiring cars, something
World Championship Rally drivers have known about
the WRX for generations. There is perhaps no more
extreme driving, with terrain, weather, road surfaces
and surprise obstacles challenging the reflexes of the
driver and the car at every turn. When the snow flies
and the mud splashes, the WRX shines the most.
INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION
The 4-wheel independent suspension in the new WRX
is designed to handle the world’s greatest roads as
well as it handles the daily rigors of real-world driving.
Front struts feature multiple-phase damping for an
ideal balance of control and precision.While the new
double-wishbone rear suspension adds to stability
and smoothness.
4-WHEEL DISC BRAKES
Impressive power calls for powerful braking ability.
So the WRX is equipped with large disc brakes at all
four wheels. Also standard are an Anti-lock Brake
System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution
(EBD) that optimally reapportions stopping power
to the front and rear wheels.

INTERIOR
Functional and rewarding. Can you have both in your hands at once? Subaru insists on
it. In a driver’s car such as the new WRX, it’s essential that the controls are instantly
intuitive, brilliantly logical, and not merely engaging to interact with but fun. Twist the
key: Illuminated red needles perform a full sweep of crisp electroluminescent gauges.
Look— or feel—your way around the cockpit, and enjoy the way every useful detail is
executed, from a multifunction trip computer to an LED-illuminated storage area. And
a new tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel puts available audio and standard
cruise controls at your thumbs. It’s a Subaru. Functional has to feel good.
PERFORMANCE-DESIGN SEATS
Designed for hardcore driving and serious comfort, the
front seats in the WRX are contoured for lasting support
around corners and down the road. Deep side bolsters
help you handle high lateral g-forces, and a height
adjuster helps the driver find that perfect spot at the
helm. Dual-mode heated front seats are optional.
AUDIO/VIDEO JACKS
Auxiliary audio/video jacks, included with the
navigation system, let you plug in nearly any
portable media player, from your iPod®to a video
player or gaming console. Plug it in and your
tunes will flow through the 10-speaker audio
system. The video portion plays on the in-dash
screen when the car is parked.
SATELLITE RADIO
Listen to rock, old school, hip-hop or sports in digital-
quality sound, wherever your journey may take you.
Every WRX is pre-wired for your choice of XM® or SIRIUS™
Satellite Radio that lets you access over 130 channels of
satellite feed across the country.1When you opt for the
navigation system, the SIRIUS hardware is included.2
GENEROUS CARGO CAPACITY
The rear suspension of the new WRX doesn’t
just help it handle better, it helps it handle more.
More cargo. More gear. More sports equipment.
The 4-door can take on three golf bags in its 11.3-
cubic-foot trunk. The 5-door’s remarkably wide
cargo area features a standard retractable cover.
Just a few taps on the high-resolution touch-screen of
the available GPS navigation system and you’ll have a
co-pilot across town or across the country. When not
in use, you can get information on your fuel economy,
check maintenance reminders, and use a calendar and
calculator. It even controls some vehicle settings.

60/40 SPLIT FOLDING REAR SEAT
Versatile performance has always been a hallmark of
the WRX. Both the 4-door and new 5-door models
come standard with a 60/40-split fold-down rear seat
so you can expand the cargo area and still bring along
one or two rear-seat passengers. A standard folding
center armrest in the 4-door is a luxurious touch.

BRAKE ASSIST
This feature helps provide safer braking in a panic stop. By
sensing the speed with which the brake pedal is depressed,
maximum brake pressure is immediately applied even if your
right foot doesn’t supply enough force.
REINFORCED
CONSTRUCTION
Engineered for exceptional strength to help maintain the
integrity of the cabin structure, the innovative Subaru ring-
shaped reinforcements around the passenger compartment
also help absorb crash-impact energy away from occupants.

An intelligent front air bag system senses front-passenger seat
occupancy to determine the safest deployment level. Side curtain

The standard Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system
continually monitors driving conditions to detect and help
correct unintended deviations in the vehicle’s trajectory
and help set you back on the correct path.

SYMMETRICAL ALL-WHEEL DRIVE
Continuous All-Wheel Drive WRX models equipped with 5-speed manual transmission utilize a viscous-type locking center differential with torque distribution normally
configured at a 50/50-split front-to-rear. If wheel speed differs between front and rear axles, the system helps distribute power to the
wheels with the most traction.
Active All-Wheel Drive WRX models equipped with 4-speed automatic transmission utilize an electronically controlled variable transfer clutch to distribute power to
where traction is needed. Sensors monitor parameters such as wheel slippage, throttle position and braking, to help determine torque distribu-
tion and direct it to the wheels with optimum traction.
STABILITY AND TRACTION
Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) VDC electronic stability control utilizes sensors which constantly monitor wheel speed, steering angle, brake pressure, vehicle yaw rate and
lateral g-forces. If VDC detects a difference between the driver’s intended path and the one the vehicle is actually taking, VDC applies braking
power and/or reduces engine torque to help correct vehicle path.
Traction Control System (TCS) VDC also incorporates an all-wheel, all-speed traction control system which senses a loss of traction and applies braking force to the slipping
wheel or wheels as necessary to maintain vehicle motion.
