1.Beforeusingyouricecreammakerforthe
firsttime,ensurethatallpackingmaterial
isremoved.
2.Removethemotorbasefromthepouring
holecover.Washthefreezercanister,
paddle,pouringholecoverandbasein
warmsoapywater.Besuretorinseanddry
allpartsthoroughly.Wipethemotorunit
withadampcloth.
3.Itisimportantwhenmakingicecream
thatthefreezercanisterisproperlyfrozen.
Theicecreammakerfeaturesadouble
insulatedbowlwhichrequiresthorough
freezing.Forbestresultswrapthefreezer
canisterinaplasticbagandplaceupright
inthebackofthefreezer,whereitis
coldest.Wrappingthefreezercanister
withaplasticbagwillpreventodoursfrom
withinthefreezerseepingintothefreezer
canister.Asthereisliquidinbetweenthe
canisterwalls,shakethecanistertocheck
iffullyfrozen;youshouldnothearany
liquidmovingwithinthewalls.
NOTE:Continuallystoringthefreezercanister
inthefreezerallowsyoutheflexibilityto
makeyourfavouriteicecreamatamoment’s
notice.

1.Slidethemotorunitontothepouringhole
coveruntilitlocksinplace.Twotabs
underneathwill‘click’intoplace.
2.Insertthepaddleextenderintothemotor
unitopening.
3.Connectthepaddletothepaddleextender.
4.Removethefreezercanisterfromfreezer.
5.Placethefreezercanisterintothebase.
6.Placethepouringholecoverontothebase
sothatall4lockingtabsarealigned.
7.Rotateclockwiseslightlyuntilthetabslock
intoplace.
8.Inserttheplugintothepoweroutletand
turntheicecreammakeronimmediately.
Thiswillpreventthepaddlefromfreezing
ontothefreezercanister.
9.Pourthepreparedicecreammixture
throughthepouringholeintothefreezer
canister.

NOTE:Itisextremelyimportantthatthe
freezercanisterisusedimmediatelyafteritis
removedfromthefreezerasitbeginstothaw
onceremoved.Ensuretheicecreammixture
isreadyandwellchilled,thenremovethe
freezercanisterfromthefreezer.
10. Theicecreammakerprocesswilltake
anywherefrom20-40minutes.Do
notturnapplianceoffduringuseas
themixturemayfreezeandprevent
movementofthepaddle.
NOTE:Ifafter40minutesthemixtureis
notyetsolidorhasthawedagain,donot
continue.Possiblereasonsforthemixture
notfreezinginclude:thefreezercanisterwas
notcold,themixturewastoowarm,room
temperatureisquitewarmortheproportion
oftheingredientswereincorrect.
11. Toaddingredientsafterthemixture
processhasbegun,gentlyaddthem
throughthepouringhole.
12. Whenthemixturehasthickenedand
reachesthetopofthepaddle,theice
creamiscompletelypreparedandthe
icecreammakershouldbeturnedoff.
Toavoidthemotoroverheating,theice
creammakermayturnitselfoffwhen
themixturehasthickenedandisready.
13. Removethepaddlefromthemixture.
14. Allowthemixturetositinthefreezer
canisterfor5minutesbeforeserving.
Onlyuseplastic,rubberorwooden
utensilstoservefromthefreezer
canister.Metalspoonsmaydamagethe
bowl.
NOTE:Atthisstageyouricecreamwillbea
spoonableconsistency.
15. Tofurtherhardenthemixture,transfer
youricecreamintoaclean,covered
airtightcontainerandplaceinthe
freezer.

Handy Hints when using your
Snack Heroes™Ice Cream Maker
• Thetimetakentomakeicecreamwill
dependontheambienttemperatureof
aroom,howlongthefreezercanister
hasbeenfreezing,thetemperatureof
thefreezerandthetemperatureofthe
ingredientsaddedtotheicecream
maker.Asageneralrule,thecoolerthese
elements,thefastertheicecreammaking
process.Thechurningprocesswilltake
anywherefrom20-40minutesbasedon
this.
• Whenfollowingrecipesthatrequirethe
mixturetobepre-cooked,itisbestto
preparethemixtureadayinadvanceto
allowmaximumchillingtime.
• Whenpreparingicecreammixturesthat
donotrequirepre-cooking,werecommend
usinganelectricmixerformaximum
aeration,thenmakingsuremixtureisvery
coldbeforechurning.
• Theconsistencyoftheicecream/sorbets
shouldbeaspoonableconsistency
whenfinished.Werecommendhowever,
transferringyouricecreamtoacontainer
andplacinginthefreezerforafurther1-2
hoursforafirmicecream.
• Foodssuchascream,sugar,eggsandmilk
areoftenthekeyingredientsinanice
creammixture.Theymaybesubstituted
withsimilaringredientstosuityourtaste
anddietaryrequirements.Forexample,
differentvarietiesofcreammaybeused,
whichwillproducevaryingflavoursand
textures.
• Duetoanincreaseinvolumeduring
preparation,themaximumamountof
liquidmixtureshouldnotexceed850ml.If
usingyourownrecipes,adaptthevolume
ofmixturetotheseamounts.850mlof
mixturewillcreateapproximately1litreof
icecream;howeversorbetsdonotexpand
asmuchthereforemakingasmaller
quantity.
• Alcoholinhibitsthefreezingprocess.If
addingalcoholtoarecipe,addwhenthe
mixtureisalmostfrozen.Thebestwayto
judgethisiswhenthemixturereachesthe
topofthepaddle.
• Beawarethatflavoursoffruitbased
sorbetsandicecreamsmayvarydepending
ontheripenessandsweetnessoffruitor
juiceused.
• Youcanreplacesugarwithanartificial
sweetener.Werecommendusingonethat
isinequalproportion(spoontospoon)to
sugar,suchasEqualorsweetenersthat
suggestusinghalftheamountofsugar
suchasCSRSmartsugar.
• Whenstoringyouricecream,ensurethe
containerisnolargerthan1litreandwell
sealed.Placingapieceofbakingpaper
overtheicecreamwillpreventicecrystals
fromformingontheicecream.
• Icecreamisbestconsumedwithin
2weeks.
• Whenservingicecreamstraightfromthe
freezer,allowtheicecreamtositoutat
roomtemperaturefor5-10minutes;this
willmakeservingeasier.

Tips to Making Custard Based
Ice Cream
Atraditionalcreamyice-creamismadefrom
acustardbase.Herearesomestepstohelp
youachieveperfectcustardeverytime.
• Makesuretheeggsarefreshandareat
roomtemperature.
• Haveyouringredientsmeasuredoutand
readysothatyouarenotleavinganything
waiting.
• Usingawirewhiskorelectrichandmixer,
beattheeggyolksandsugarinalarge
deepbowlforabout3-4minutesoruntil
lightandcreamy.Thecolourwillgoquite
light.
• Placethemilk/creamrequiredforthe
recipeinasaucepan.
• Heatthemilkmixtureonalow/medium
heatuntilthemixturelookslikeitis
almostabouttoboil.Agoodguideiswhen
littlebubblesstarttoappeararoundthe
edgesofthemilk.Becarefulnottoboil.
Shouldyouboilthemilkyouwillneedto
startagain.
• Usingawirewhisk,whiskthehotmilk
mixturegraduallyintotheeggmixture
makingsurethatthetwoarewell
combined.
• Returnthemixtureintoacleansaucepan
andcookoveralowheat,stirring
constantlywithawoodenspoon.The
custardmixtureisreadywhenitthickens
andcoatsthebackofaspoon.Totestthis
placethewoodenspoonintothecustard
mixturethenturnthespoonover.Runyour
fingeroncedownthebackofthespoon.If
thecustardisthickenoughitwillkeepthe
fingermark,ifitisstillrunnythemixture
willeithernotgrabontothebackofthe
spoonandlookverythinorthefingermark
willnotstay.
• Ifthemixtureseparatesorcurdlesthen
heatistoohigh.
• Donotleavethecustardunattendedwhile
cooking.
• Thecustardwilltakeanywherefrom5-15
minutestothickendependingonthetype/
sizeofsaucepanused.Itisbesttousea
lowheatasdifferentstovetypeswillvary
greatlyinheat.
• Oncethecustardhasthickened,transfer
themixtureintoaheatproofbowl.Allow
themixturetocoolbeforeplacinginto
therefrigerator,coverandchillforseveral
hoursbeforeuse.

water.Thiscanbedoneiftheunitis
stillpartiallyfrozen;itwillnotdamageor
cracktheunit.However,iftheunitisstill
partiallyfrozenyoumustdryimmediately
asthewaterwillstarttofreezeinsidethe
unit.Besuretorinseanddrythoroughly.
Donotuseabrasivescouringpads,powders
orcleaners.
NOTE:Neverplacethefreezercanisterinthe
freezerifitisstillwet.

maybeplacedonthetopshelfofthe
