1.0Introduction
Thankyouforselectinga SunPumpsSPseriesSunSwitch,a solarinsolationmeterandrelaysystem.TheSR
seriessolarinsolationrelaycontrollerwiththeaccompanyingsensorpanelisa greatwaytoautomaticallyturn
onoroffdeviceswithsunlight.Thisinsolationrelayisdesignedtoallowswitchingofsmallloadsatuser-
selectablepredeterminedsunlightintensity. Warning
Never supply more than the rated current/ voltage of the relay.
SP-SSR1 is rated for: 1Amp at 30 VDC, .2 Amps at 60 VDC, ,5 Amps at 120 VAC.
SP-SSR2 is rated for: 4 Amps at 30 VDC, .2 Amps at 60 VDC, 4Amps at 120 VAC.
AlthoughtheseSRseriesSunSwitchsystemsareeasytoinstall,pleasereadthismanualtobecome
familiarwiththeswitchfeatures,functions,connectionpointsandvariousconfigurations.Forfuture
reference,keepthismanualandotherrelevantproductinformationina safeplace.

2.0ProductOverview
SunPumpsSP-SSRcontrollerisa relayswitchanda suninsolationmeter.Suninsolationistheamountofthe
sun'sradiationata specificpointintime.Itcanbethoughtofastheintensityofsunlight.Withthismeter,the
intensityofthesunismeasuredinpercentageoffullsunlightwith100%being1000W/m2.(Wattspersquare
meter)Whenproperlyinstalledandconfigured,theuniquefeaturesincorporatedintothisunitwill
automaticallyactivatea relaybasedona pre-selectedpercentageofsunlight.

4.0Troubleshooting
SunPumps,Inc.isdedicatedtoitscustomersandwillgladlyhelpyoutroubleshootanyproblemswithyour
system.However,especiallyduringthebusysummerpumpingseason,wemaynotbeabletohelpyouright
away.Usingthistroubleshootingguideasyourfirstresourcewhenyoursystemisnotworkingproperlycan
saveyouvaluabletimeingettingyoursystemfullyfunctional.Ifatanytimehowever,youarenotcomfortable
performinganyofthesetasks,ordonotfullyunderstandthesystem,itisbettertocallthantoguess.Before
callingpleasegothroughthesectionbelowlabeled"BeforeCallingSunPumps"andcompletethesteps
there.
UNITDOES NOT TURN ON
1.Inverylowlightconditionstherewillbenoindicationthattheunitisreceivingpower.Thisisbecausethe
unitusesthepowercominginfromthesolarsensortopower itself. Ifthereisnotamplelightavailable,
youshouldcheckagainpreferablyinthemiddleofthedaywithfullsunlightavailable.Ifatthattimethere
arenoLEDsinthecontrolleron,checkthevoltageofthesolarsensor.Ifitisbetween4 and6 voltscall
SunPumpsforfurtherassistance.
2. Disconnectthesolarsensorandchecktheopencircuitvoltage(Voc)onthesolarpanel.Compareittothe
ratedopencircuitvoltagelistedonthebackofthepanel.Ifitisnotattheratedvoltage+ - 10%,thencall
SunPumpsforfurtherassistance.
3. Nowchecktheshortcircuitcurrent(Isc).Compareittotheratedshortcircuitcurrentlistedonthebackof
thepanel.Ifthereadingislessthantheratingbymorethan .1 amps,callSunPumpsforfurtherassistance.
(Note:Makesureyouhavefullsunlightwhenyourunthistest.)
4. Ifthepanelseemstobegoodthentheremaybea problemintheinsolationrelayunit.CallSunPumpsfor
furtherassistance.
UNIT MEASURES SUNLIGHT BUT RELAY DOES NOT ACTIVATE
1.Verifythatoneoftheswitchesonthedipswitchisinthe"ON"position.
2. LookattheLEDsolarinsolationindicatorsatthetopofthecontrollertoseehowmuchsunlightis
available.Nowchecktoseewhichdipswitchison.Fortherelaytoactivate,thedipswitchsettingmustbe
setatorlowerthantheavailablesunlight.Ifitisnotthenyoucanusea lowersettingandtherelayshould
activate.IfthisdoesnotworkthencallSunPumpsforfurtherassistance.
3. Ifthe"RelayOn"LEDlightsupandtherelaydoesnotactivate,callSunPumpsforfurtherassistance.

BEFORE CALLING SUNPUMPS
IfatallpossiblewhencallingSunPumpsfortechnicalsupporttherearea fewthingswhichwillhelptospeed
uptheprocessandhelpusdeterminethecauseofandsolutiontothesystemfailure.Thebestwaytogethelpis
tocallwhileyouarephysicallyatthelocationofyourpump,havegoodsunlight,andhavea multimeteranda
screwdriverwithyou.
Furthermore,pleasefillouttheformbelowbeforecalling.Thisinformationwillprovideuswithmostofthe
preliminaryinformationweneedtohelpyou.Ifyoucannotphysicallybeatthesite,fillingouttheworksheetis

Warranty Statement
SP Series Sun Switch and Solar Meter
Limited Warranty - Twelve Months
SunPumpswarrantstotheoriginalconsumerthatitsproductsshallbefreefrom defectsinmaterialandworkmanship
undernormalapplicationsandserviceconditionsfora periodoftwelve(12)monthsaftertheoriginaldateofpurchase,
butnottoexceedeighteen(18)monthsfrom thedateofmanufacture.
Atitsoption,SunPumpswillrepairorreplaceanySunPumpsproduct,whichhasfailedduetoa defectinmaterialor
workmanshipduringthiswarrantyperiod.A PCBseriescontrollermustbeinstalledinconjunctionwiththepumpto
validatethewarranty.ThislimitedwarrantyshallnotapplyiftheSunPumpsproducthasbeendamagedby
unreasonableuse,accident,negligence,mishandling,misapplication,alteration,modification,abrasion,shipping,
serviceormodificationbyanyone(otherthanbySunPumps),orfailurewhicharecausedbyproductsnot
manufacturedbySunPumps,orshouldtheproductsserialnumberbeingaltered,orbydamagethatisattributabletoan
actofGod,orbyanyothercausesunrelatedtodefectivematerialsorworkmanship.Anydisassemblywhatsoeverof
theproductvoidsallwarranty.
TheoriginalpurchaserMUSTcompleteandsendinthewarrantyregistrationcard,withtheserialnumberforwarranty
validation.No warranty performance will be rendered without a valid warranty card on file at the SunPumps
factory.
Therearenoexpresswarrantiesexceptaslistedabove.SunPumpsshallhavenoresponsibilityfordamageto
property,persons,animals,orotherlossorinjuryresultingfromtheuseofa SunPumpsproduct.Thepurchaser's
exclusiveremedyshallbeonlyasstatedherein.Thiswarrantyisinlieuofallotherwarrantiesexpressedorimplied.
Exceptforthewarrantythattheproductsaremadeinaccordancewiththespecificationsthereforesuppliedoragreed
tobycustomer,SunPumpsmakesnowarrantyexpressedorimplied,andanyimpliedwarrantyofmerchantabilityor
fitnessfora particularpurposewhichexceedstheforgingwarrantyisherebydisclaimedbySunPumpsandexcluded
fromanyagreementmadebyacceptanceofanyorderpursuanttothisquotation.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL SUNPUMPS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL OR
INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, LOSS OR EXPENSE ARISING IN CONNECTION WITH THE USE OF OR THE
INABILITY TO USE ITS GOODS FOR ANY PURPOSE WHATSOEVER. ALL PRODUCTS ARE SOLD AS IS
WITH ALL FAULTS. SUNPUMPS MAXIMUM UABIUTY SHALL NOT IN ANY CASE EXCEED THE
PURCHASE PRICE FOR THE GOODS CLAIMED TO BE DEFECTIVE OR UNSUITABLE.
SunPumpsisnotresponsibleforlabor,transportation,andrelatedcostsincurredbythecustomertomakeallegedly
defectiveequipmentavailabletothefactoryforinspectionre-installation,lostprofitsorcostscausedbyinterruptionof
service.SunPumpsisnotresponsibleforlossordamagetoproducts,ownedbycustomerandlocatedonSunPumps
premises,causedbyfireorothercasualtiesbeyondSunPumpscontrol.
