Starthilfekabel
Sicherheitshinweise:
• Katalysator-Autos nur mit Starthilfekabel und Spenderbatterie starten. Durch
Anschieben oder Abschleppen kann Benzin in den Auspuff gelangen und den
Katalysator beschädigen.
• Beachten Sie die Bedienungsanleitung vom KFZ bzw. der Zusatzgeräte (wie
z.B. Autotelefon, Bordcomputer usw.) auf eventuelle Hinweise zur Starthilfe.
Achten Sie unbedingt darauf,
• dass die Kapazität der Stromspender-Batterie (z.B. 45 Ah) nicht wesentlich
unter der der leeren Batterie liegt;
• dass nur Batterien gleicher Nennspannung (z.B. 12V) verbunden werden dürfen;
• dass zwischen den Fahrzeugen kein Karosseriekontakt hergestellt werden darf;
• dass Zündquellen (z. B. offenes Licht, brennende Zigaretten oder elektrische
Funken) von den Batterien fernzuhalten sind (Explosionsgefahr) und dass
wegen der Verätzungsgefahr man sich nicht über die Batterie beugt;
• dass die entladene Batterie nicht von dem dazugehörigen Bordnetz getrennt
wird und die Zündungen der Fahrzeuge vor dem Anklemmen der Starthilfekabel
ausgeschaltet sind: bei Schaltgetrieben der Schalthebel in Leerlaufstellung; bei
Automatikgetrieben der Wählhebel in Stellung „p" steht und die Feststellbremse
angezogen ist;
• dass das Starthilfekabel nicht von drehenden Teilen im Motorraum erfasst
werden kann;
• wie und in welcher Reihenfolge Starthilfekabel an- und abzuklemmen sind

Anklemmen:
Rote Leitung mit roten Polzangen zuerst am Pluspol der entladenen
Batterie (siehe Bild/Position 1)und dann am Pluspol der
Spenderbatterie (siehe Bild/Position 2) anklemmen. Anschließend
schwarze Leitung mit den schwarzen Polzangen am Minuspol der
Spenderbatterie (siehe Bild/Position 3) und danach an die
Fahrzeugmasse des Fahrzeugs mit entladener Batterie, z.B. am
Masseband oder einer anderen blanken Stelle am Motorblock (siehe
Bild/Position 4), soweit wie möglich von der Batterie entfernt
anklemmen, um das Zünden von möglicherweise entwickeltem
Knallgas zu verhindern.
Starten:
Danach Motor des Spenderfahrzeugs starten und auf mittlere Drehzahl
bringen. Anschließend Motor des liegengebliebenen Fahrzeugs
starten. Nach einem Startvorgang, der nicht länger als 15 Sekunden
dauern soll, ist eine Wartezeit von 1 Minute einzulegen.
Abklemmen:
Wenn der Motor rund läuft (nach 2 bis 3 Minuten) Starthilfekabel in
umgekehrter Reihenfolge abklemmen: Zuerst schwarze Polzange vom
Masseband oder Motorblock des liegengebliebenen Fahrzeuges
abnehmen (siehe Bild/Position 4). Dann die andere schwarze
Polzange vom Minuspol der Spenderbatterie (siehe Bild/Position 3)
und anschließend die beiden roten Polzangen in beliebiger
Reihenfolge abnehmen.

Battery Booster Cables
Safety advice:
• Converter equipped vehicles must not be push-started. Always use a battery
booster and a second car battery. By push-starting or towing the car, fuel can
get into the exhaust pipe and damage the converter.
• Always check your vehicle’s (or its accessories’ – such as car phone, board
computer etc.) instruction manual for jump starting advice.
Always check,
• that the donating battery’s capacity (ex. 45 Ah) is not significantly lower than the
capacity of the empty one.
• that only batteries of the same nominal voltage (ex. 12 V) can be connected.
• that there must not be any contact between the bodies of both cars.
• that any ignition source (open light, burning cigarettes, electric sparks etc.) has
to be kept away from the batteries (risk of explosion) and that you shall not
reach or bend over the batteries because of the risk of personal injury.
• that the discharged battery is not disconnect from the main electrical system and
that the ignitions of both cars are switched off before connecting the booster
cables: in case of a standard transmission the gear shift has to be in idle speed;
with automatic transmissions, the lever has to be set to “P” and the hand brake
has to be put on.
• that the booster cables can not be caught up in revolving parts of the engine.
• how and in what order the booster cables have to be connected.

Connecting the cables:
Connect the red cables with the red clamps with the positive terminal of
the discharged battery first (see picture/position 1) and then with the
positive terminal of the donating battery (see picture/position 2).
After that, connect the black cable with the black clamps with the
negative terminal of the donating battery (see picture/position 3) and
then with the ground of the car with the discharged battery (ex. ground
strap or engine block) as far away from battery itself (see
picture/position 4) to avoid the accidental ignition of eventually
produced explosive gas.
Jump start:
After that start the donating car and accelerate the engine to a medium
motor speed. Then start the engine of the broken down car. After one
jump start procedure, which should not be longer than 15 seconds,
you have to wait at least one minute.
Disconnection:
As soon as the motor is running steadily (after at least 2-3 minutes),
disconnect the booster cables in reversed order: First disconnect the
black clamp from the ground of the broken down car (see
picture/position 4), then disconnect the other black clamp from the
negative terminal of the donating battery (see picture/position 3). At
least disconnect both red clamps in no particular order.
