and o her ins ruc ions explained in his manual . As wi h all power equipmen ,
lawnmowers can be po en ially dangerous if improperly used.

Read this manual completely. This machine can amputate hands and feet, and
throw objects. Failure to observe the following safety instructions could result in
serious injury or death.

The opera ion of any cu er can encoun er foreign objec s o be hrown in o he
eyes, resul ing in severe eye damage. Always wear cer ified safe y glasses or
wide-vision safe y goggles for over spec acles before s ar ing any cu ing
machine and while opera ing such a machine.
The opera ion of any cu er produces sound waves ha are damaging o he
human ear. Ear pro ec ion is recommended.

Do no opera e on slopes grea er han 15 degrees.
Use ex ra cau ion when mowing on slopes. Opera e self-propelled uni s
up and down slopes. There is a significan risk of over urns when
opera ing across slopes. If you feel uneasy on a slope hen do not mow i .

devices.
•ALWAYS keep mower clean and free of debris and grass clippings.
•NEVER reverse ba ery cables. Elec ric shock will occur.
•ALWAYS keep ba ery away from open flame and sparks. Explosive gases from
ba ery can cause serious injury or dea h.
•ALWAYS wear safe y glasses and pro ec ive gear when servicing he ba ery.
Ba ery fluid con ains sulfuric acid. Con ac wi h ba ery acid on skin or clo hing can
cause severe chemical burns.

OPERATING YOUR NEW ZERO TURN RIDER MOWER
CONTROLS
•OPERATOR PRESENCE SYSTEM: This mower is equipped wi h an opera or’s presence
sys em. Any a emp o leave he sea ed posi ion wi h he engine running, wi hou firs
disengaging he PTO swi ch will cause he engine o shu off. Never ge off he mower
wi hou placing he s eering levers in he neu ral posi ion.
WARNING: Do no opera e he machine unless he Operator’s Presence System is
func ioning as described.
•PARKING BRAKE: Always se he parking brake before s ar ing. The parking brake is
loca ed on he drivers lef hand side. Engage he parking brake by pushing he lever rearward
and down un il lever locks in o posi ion. Be sure o release parking brake before opera ing he
machine.
•IGNITION: The igni ion swi ch is loca ed on he drivers righ hand side oward he rear of
he sea . The igni ion swi ch has hree posi ions: OFF, ON, START.
•T ROTTLE: The hro le\choke con rol is loca ed on he drivers righ hand side owards he
fron of he sea . For maximum performance and ba ery charging, opera e mower a full
hro le. When s ar ing a cold engine, place lever forward in he full choke posi ion. Af er s ar
up, move hro le rearward o full hro le posi ion. Move lever all he way o he rear for
lowes se ing before shu ing off engine. The 50” Model has a push/pull choke moun ed on
he righ side fender for easier cold wea her s ar s. Pull ou o choke (s ar ) engine.
•PTO SWITC : The PTO, or Power Take Off swi ch is used o engage he blades of he
mower. When he PTO swi ch is pulled ou he blades will be engaged. When he PTO swi ch
is pushed in he blades will be disengaged. The PTO swi ch mus be pushed in o comple e he
Opera or’s Presence Sys em o s ar engine.
•NEUTRAL LOCK: The s eering levers mus be in he outward and locked posi ion for he
mower o s ar . ( See page 11)

• Dispose of op and side panels of he cra e.
• Remove loose par s and packing ma erial.
• Cu any banding or s rapping ha may be holding he mower o he cra e.
• Disengage spark plug wire and place where i canno make a connec ion.
• Assemble he sea and clip wiring harness in o he bo om of sea .
NOTICE: Mower will no s ar unless he sea is connec ed o he wiring harness.
• Raise mower deck o i s highes posi ion by urning he handle clockwise.
• Se parking brake o Disengage.
• Open ransmission valves from behind by pushing-IN on each of he levers un il hey s op;
ro a e hem o he locked (lef ) posi ion. (See Page 14)
• Carefully push he mower off he cra e o a safe and level area.
• Check engine oil. All engines are filled wi h oil and es ed a he fac ory. Verify oil level and
add if necessary before s ar ing engine. (See Engine Owner’s Manual)
• Check he ba ery. If ba ery is pu in o service af er he “mon h & year” of he da e on he
ba ery, hen i may need o be charged wi h a 12 vol ba ery charger for a minimum of 1 hour,
bu no more han 2 hours a a ra e of 6 o 10 amps.
• A ach ba ery cable(s) o ba ery.
• Ins all s eering levers. Align s eering lever wi h holes in s eering linkage on mower. Keep
levers aligned wi h each o her.
• Reconnec spark plug wire.
UNCRATING/ASSEMBLY

STARTING MOWER
•TO START: Posi ion s eering handles ou ward o neu ral locked posi ion. Engage parking
brake. Ex end hro le o full choke posi ion. S ar igni ion and slide hro le lever back o full
hro le posi ion. Allow engine o warm up for 1 minu e. Release parking brake. The ZT2350
has a remo e choke assembly loca ed on he righ fender, behind he rider.
•FORWARD MOVEMENT: Posi ion s eering handles inward o he drive posi ion. To move
he mower forward gen ly push bo h s eering levers forward equal dis ance from he neu ral
posi ion. The fur her you move he levers forward he fas er you will ravel. CAUTION
s eering levers have quick response iming.
•BACKWARD MOVEMENT: To move he mower backwards, gen ly pull back on he
s eering levers he same dis ance from neu ral. The fur her you pull back he fas er you will
ravel. NOTE i is normal for he reverse speed o be less han he forward for easier urning.
•TURNS: For lef urn, move he righ lever far her forward hen he lef . For righ urn, move
he lef lever far her forward han he righ . To ob ain a igh urning radius, GENTLY reverse
one lever and push he o her lever forward. CAUTION: Aggressive urns can damage lawns.

•DECK EIG T ADJUSTMENT: To raise he mower deck up and down, simply ro a e he
lever loca ed in fron of he sea above he floor pla e. Clockwise raises he deck.
Coun erclockwise lowers he deck. The deck is adjus able from 1 ½” o 3 ½”.
• For bes performance, all grass should be mowed once in he highes posi ion and once again
a desired cu heigh . Never cu more han1/3 he heigh in one cu ing.
•ENGAGING BLADES: Opera or mus be sea ed for opera ion of blades. Wi h engine o full
hro le posi ion, pull UP on PTO swi ch loca ed be ween he hro le and he key swi ch. To
disengage blades, push DOWN on PTO swi ch.
•STOPPING ENGINE: Place bo h levers in he ou ward neu ral locked posi ion. Push PTO
swi ch in o disengage. Place hro le lever o lowes se ing and le idle for 30 seconds. Turn
off igni ion key and engage parking brake.

MOWING

backward a fas speeds can cause acciden s resul ing in personal injury.

he uni . NOTE: This mower has been designed o be very maneuverable. Prac ice in open,
fla areas is ex remely necessary o become comfor able and efficien wi h he con rols.
•BEGIN TO MOW: Before s ar ing he engine, se he desired deck heigh .
• S ar he mower engine.
• Posi ion he hro le lever abou halfway and engage PTO swi ch. Reposi ion hro le lever
o full hro le posi ion.
• Move s eering levers forward o begin mowing.
CAUTION: Always make sure he deck is no plugged wi h grass or o her debris. Failure
o do his will cause damage o he PTO bel .
•STOPPING: Hydros a ic mowers use hydros a ic braking hrough he ransmissions. To
slow or s op he uni move he s eering levers o he neu ral posi ion
•STOPPING T E ENGINE: Move he hro le lever o slow posi ion, allow engine o idle
for 30 seconds and urn igni ion o off posi ion. CAUTION: Failure o posi ion he igni ion
key o any posi ion excep off will cause discharge of he ba ery.

MAINTENANCE SC EDULE
INSPECT BEFORE EAC USE
•Loose fasteners: Be sure all fas eners are a proper orque. Especially guards and
blades.
•Parking brake: If brake does no keep uni from rolling, brake mus be adjus ed or
repaired.
•Tires: Always check and main ain proper ire pressure (See ire sidewall for
recommenda ion). Check for damage due o sharp rocks, objec s or s umps.
•Operator Presence System: The engine should no s ar unless he PTO swi ch is
disengaged and he con rol levers are locked in he neu ral posi ion. Any a emp o
leave he sea ed posi ion wi h he PTO swi ch engaged will kill he engine.
•Oil level: To preven damage o engine, always check and main ain proper oil level.
Never opera e engine wi h he oil level below he add mark on he dips ick. Be sure
o igh en he dips ick securely af er inspec ion. Refer o engine manual for addi ional
informa ion.
INSPECT EVERY 8 OURS
•Proper cleaning: Remove any build up of grass, dir or debris wi h a brush or clo h
from engine, ba ery, deck and and ransaxles. Do no use harsh chemicals or
abrasives. Keep all pain ed surfaces and wheels free of oil and gasoline. Pro ec all
pain ed surfaces wi h an au omo ive wax. Do no spray uni wi h wa er or s ore
ou doors unpro ec ed. Wa er can invade sealed bearings and reduce componen life.
•Air filter: The engine will no run properly wi h a dir y or damaged air fil er. Check
fil er before s ar ing he engine. Check for buildup of dir or debris. Replace if ben ,
clogged, or damaged.
•Oil level: To preven damage o engine, always check and main ain proper oil level.
Never opera e engine wi h he oil level below he add mark on he dips ick. Be sure o
igh en he dips ick securely af er inspec ion.
Do no spray wa er on o hydros a ic ransmissions. This will
cause injec ion of wa er in o he uni causing failure.

INSPECT EVERY 25 OURS
•Lubrication: Grease all pivo poin s wi h a high emp grease.
•Battery, check and clean: Keep ba ery erminals clean and igh . Periodic charging
will ex end i s life. Clean erminals wi h a wire brush and coa wi h a pe roleum jelly.
•Change engine oil and filter: Use only quali y de ergen oil. See engine manual for
ins ruc ions. Selec viscosi y grade according o your expec ed environmen al
empera ure.
•Blades: Bes resul s will come from sharp blades. Replace if ben , damaged or worn.
•Engine air screen: Screen mus be clean and free of debris for proper engine cooling.
Clean wi h a brush or clo h. Do no spray wi h pressurized wa er.
•Muffler: Inspec for damage or corrosion. Keep free of grass or debris o preven fire.
INSPECT EVERY 100 OURS
•Clean engine cooling fins: Clogged cooling fins can damage engine due o
overhea ing. Keep fins and ex ernal surfaces of he engine clean.
•Replace air filter: The engine will no run properly wi h a dir y or damaged air fil er.
Check fil er before s ar ing he engine.Check for buildup of dir or debris. Replace if
ben , clogged, or damaged. See engine manual for de ailed ins ruc ions.
•Replace spark plugs: See engine manual for de ailed ins ruc ions.
INSPECT EAC SEASON
•Belts:Check bel s for wear and de eriora ion. See service and adjus men s.
•Spark plug: See engine manual for de ailed ins ruc ions.
•Replace in-line fuel filter: Replace every season.
INSPECT BEFORE STORAGE
•Change engine oil and filter: See engine manual for de ailed ins ruc ions.
•Lubrication: Grease all pivo poin s wi h a high emp grease.
•Check battery: Keep ba ery erminals clean and igh . Periodic charging will ex end
i s life. Clean erminals wi h a wire brush and coa wi h a pe roleum jelly.

SERVICE / ADJUSTMENTS
TRACKING
Adjus men s o he uni may need o be made if he uni does no rack in a s raigh line. The
primary reason for he uni no racking s raigh is incorrec or unbalanced ire pressure.
Before making any adjus men s firs check and adjus he ire pressure. DO NOT EXCEED
MAXIMUM RECOMMENDED TIRE PRESSURE.
ADJUST LINKAGE: Place s eering levers ou ward locking hem in he neu ral posi ion.
Turn off engine and raise sea . Under he sea are (4) adjus men bol s. The wo adjus men
bol s oward he sea moun are adjus men s for he forward ravel. The wo bol s oward he
engine are for he reverse ravel. Clockwise movemen for hese will decrease or slow he
ravel speed of he individual side. Coun erclockwise movemen will increase he ravel of he
individual side. The linkage is fac ory se o maximum performance. Adjus men is made by
ro a ing he adjus men bol clockwise on he opposi e side ha he uni racks oward. Adjus
forward and reverse o rack s raigh as needed. When accomplished adjus men o he
s eering levers may need o be done. This is made by loosening he he wo bol s on he
s eering lever and aligning wi h he o her. Travel of he s eering levers from fron o rear may
be accomplished in he same manner.
CAUTION: Before performing any service or adjus men s do as follows:
1. Turn off PTO swi ch.
2. Posi ion uni on smoo h fla surface.
3. Place s eering levers in ou ward, neu ral-locked posi ion.
4. Turn igni ion key “OFF” and se parking brake.
5. Wai for all moving par s o s op and disconnec spark plug wire.

REMOVING T E MOWER DECK
1. Turn off engine and engage parking brake.
2. Ro a e cu ing heigh lever coun erclockwise o lowes cu ing posi ion.
3. Remove bol from pickup poin loca ed a he fron of he deck.
4. Remove co er pins on rear hanger poin s and slide ou s abilizer bars.Disconnec
ension spring bol from ension bracke .

5. Ins all bol in fron hanger bracke passing hrough eyebol in he same manner as
rear and igh en snug.

LEVELING T E MOWER DECK
1. Posi ion uni on a smoo h level surface.
2. For side o side leveling, measure he dis ance from he floor o he bo om edge a he
rear of he deck. The measuremen should be equal wi hin 1/16 inch side o side.
Adjus men can be made by loosening locking nu on rear eyebol hangers and adjus ing
up or down as needed.
3. For fron o rear pi ch adjus men , loosen locking nu on fron eyebol and adjus up or

BELTS
Clutch drive belt replacement
1. Remove bel covers.
2. Disconnec ension idler from ension
bracke .
3. Remove bel from mower pulley and elec ric
clu ch.
4. Ins all new bel on o elec ric clu ch and
mower pulley and check for proper rou ing
and clearance.
5. Reconnec idler ension bol o ension
bracke .
ydrostats belt replacement
1. Remove clu ch drive bel . See clutch belt
replacement.
2. Disconnec wiring from elec ric clu ch.
3. Disconnec idler spring from ension bracke .
4. Remove bol and washer from bo om of
elec ric clu ch and slide clu ch from engine
crankshaf , se aside.
5. Remove bel from ransaxles and engine
pulley.
6. Ins all new bel . Check for proper rou ing
and clearance.
7. Reins all elec ric clu ch carefully aligning
keyed por ion of clu ch and keyway in
crankshaf . Reins all bol and washer.
Washer is “cupped” be sure o place
“cupped” side of washer owards he clu ch
body.
8. Reconnec ension idler o ension bracke .
9. Reconnec wiring harness o elec ric clu ch.
10. Reins all clu ch drive bel . See clutch drive
belt replacement.
