2-Stage Cool Mode
Firmware Version .9

Addendum Summary
This addendum describes how to enable and use the 2-stage
cooling mode features available with TC-1 firmware version
3.93 and higher.
2-Stage Cool Mode
Basic Description:
In 2-Stage cooling (C2 mode the TC-1 uses a single
temperature probe to monitor glycol temperature
and, based on stage 1 and stage 2 set points,
engages stage 1 and stage 2 relays whenever glycol
temperature is above each stage's respective set
point.
C2 mode is only available while the Extended
Function parameter (EF, accessible under the CC
menu is enabled.
During programming, C2 mode is indicated by the
illumination of both the COOL and AUTO front panel
LEDs and by the characters “C2” displayed in the
temperature window. During operating mode, the
COOL and AUTO LEDs illuminate while glycol
temperature is displayed in the Temperature window.
In multiple temperature probe applications, the
controlling temperature probe is designated by the CP
parameter (see TC-1 User's Guide .
Each stage's set point (SP1 and SP2 can be adjusted
individually or ramped up and down together while
maintaining their relative offsets.

Hardware Set up
The following describes the hardware configuration required
for proper 2-stage thermostat operation. For complete
controller installation details, please see TC-1 Installation
Guide and related advisories.
Power the TC-1 via appropriate mains voltage and
wire per TC-1 Installation Instructions.
Attached a TP-1 temperature probe to the controller's
probe bus. Install a TP-1 temperature probe in an
appropriate location for sensing glycol temperature.
Use shielded CAT-5 cable to extended the probe
cables as needed being sure to ground the shield only
inside controller. Do not exceed 50' of total probe
cable length. If using two probes, be sure to attach
the probes in a bus topology (e.g., from controller to
TP-1 and then from TP-1 to TP-2 . Make all cable
splices as close to the probes as possible and use only
moisture-proof, gel-filled IDC connectors for splices.
Ensure that shield is contiguous from controller
through to TP-2.
Wire RELAY 1 to the solenoid or valve that controls
STAGE 1 of the chiller
Wire RELAY 2 to the solenoid or valve that controls
STAGE 2 of the chiller
Attach network cable to the controller per Echelon FT
wiring guide. Networking is optional.
Software Set up
Enter program mode by pressing and releasing the
PGM button
Press the PGM button to advance to the 'CC' and turn
this menu item 'On' via the UP or DOWN button
Press the PGM button to advance to 'diF' (thermostat
differential and adjust as desired via UP/DOWN
buttons

Press the PGM button to advance to 'dCH' (dual-zone
cool/heat and turn this setting 'On' via the UP or
DOWN button

Dual- one Operation (dCH=On)
COMMON SETTINGS
MODE: COOL or HEAT
DIFFERENTIAL: 'diF'
ZONE 1 :
Probe: TP-1
Relay: Relay 1
Set Point: SP1
ZONE 2:
Probe: TP-2
Relay: Relay 2
Set Point: SP2
Selecting Thermostat MODE
Press / release the PGM button to
advance to MODE selection (as
indicated by a blinking MODE light or
the word “OFF” blinking in the
SETPOINT window .
Prese the UP or DOWN button to
select the desired thermostat MODE
(either COOL or HEAT .
Notes:
Only COOL and HEAT modes are affected when 'dCH'
is set to 'On'.
Also, the following parameters are ignored by the
thermostat when 'dCH' is set to 'On': C , H and Hr.
lease see TC-1 User's Guide for more information
about these parameters.

Adjusting ONE1 Set Point (SP1)
Press / release the PGM button to advance to the
'SP1' entry screen (as indicated in the TEMPERATURE
display window
Press the UP/DOWN buttons to adjust SP1 to the
desired value (as shown in the SETPOINT display
window
Adjusting ONE2 Set Point (SP2)
Press / release the PGM button to advance to the
'SP2' entry screen (as indicated in the TEMPERATURE
display window
Press the UP/DOWN buttons to adjust SP2 to the
desired value (as shown in the SETPOINT display
window
Adjusting SP1 and SP2 - Simultaneously
Press and hold the PGM button.
While holding the PGM button depressed, use the UP
and DOWN buttons to adjust SP1 to the desired value
(as indicated in the SETPOINT window . The value of
SP2 also changes by this same amount, despite the
fact that is is not visable during adjustment.
Note: Holding down the U or DOWN button while
making adjustments will ramp the value accordingly.

Displaying one Temperatures and Set Points
When PROBE 1 is selected, temperature and set point for
ZONE1 are displayed in the TEMPERATURE and SETPOINT
windows, respectively.
Likewise, when PROBE 2 is selected, temperature and set
point for the ZONE2 are displayed in the TEMPERATURE and
SETPOINT windows, respectively.
Selecting a Probe Input
Press / release the PGM button
until one of the PROBE indicators
begins to blink.
Use the UP or DOWN button to
select the desired probe
Relay Activity
Relay activity for each ZONE is visible via front panel RELAY
indicators.
When ZONE1 output is engaged, the RELAY 1
indicator will illuminate.
When ZONE2 output is engaged, the RELAY 2
indicator will illuminate.
Note: All relay activity is inhibited during programming
operations in order to prevent rapid cycling of outputs.
