Input 1 Impedance Adj st for best tone. If a Telonics (b ffered) pedal is sed before the preamp, set
f lly clockwise. If the g itar is pl gged directly into the preamp, set to taste (5 to
8 for normal tone). Adj stment range is 20 k ohms to 500 k ohms. See FAQ’s
Preamp In 1 The primary inp t 1 has two inp t connectors (front and rear). Insertion of a pl g
into the front panel inp t connector a to-disconnects rear inp t connector. This
red ces or eliminates possible noise so rces.
Preamp In 2 Secondary inp t (front panel only) for additional g itar with independent tone
controls.
Pedal To O tp t to a vol me pedal. This signal is affected by the inp t gain control, and is
prior to the eq alization.
Pedal From Ret rn from vol me pedal and is prior to the Pre-EQ Insert on the rear panel.
Input Gain 1 Sets the gain for the first a dio stage of Input 1. Start at 3 or 4 and adj st as
needed. This gain control affects the level for the Pedal To connector (front
panel) which then also affects the Pre-EQ Insert Send connector (rear panel).
Input Gain 2 Sets the gain for the first a dio stage of Input 2.
Input/EQ
Overload
Red LED indicator only t rns on in a rare instance when peaks are hit. Indication
of soft clipping may occ r, b t yo ’ll probably never hear it. This LED indicates
an overload on the inp t or eq alizer circ its for Input 1 and Input 2. Red ce
gain or adj st EQ of active inp t to eliminate.

BRO This switch will activate a “Bro” type effect. The LED will light when Bro is
active. The Foot Switch connector on the rear panel will t rn Bro off and on if
the BRO switch is p shed on (in). If either switch is in the off position, the effect
will be off. When the foot switch is not sed, the defa lt is on. (See back panel
Foot Switch)
HU The HU switch will activate a h m red ction circ it to minimize h m from
single coil pick ps. The HU circ it will red ce 60 Hz h m abo t 20dB. The
LED will light when h m eliminator circ it is active.
Reverb Level This level controls how m ch of the internal reverb signal is applied to the
Wet/Dry Fader control. The inp t level to the reverb circ it is affected by the
Input Gain control level. The reverb inp t is a combination of the dry inp t after
the Tone controls and the Post EQ EFX Return signal (rear panel).
WET/DRY Fader This fader controls the amo nt of wet or dry signal sent to the aster Level
control. F ll co nter clockwise is dry, f ll clockwise is wet.
Reverb On This LED indicates if the Foot Switch has disabled the reverb. When the LED is
on, the internal reverb is active and controlled by the Reverb Level control.
When the LED is off, the Foot Switch has disabled the reverb signal. With no
foot switch, the defa lt is on.
AUX / Stereo

Direct Out
Amp odeling Switch
This switch allows yo to select different amp modeling
responses. Off is no modeling. Norm is a normal freq ency
response from a speaker system. Mellow is a freq ency response
with little less high freq ency in the response.
Direct Out
Level
This level adj stment will allow yo to match the signal yo are
sending to the level req ired by the mixer or recording device.
Most line level devices are either +4dB or -10dB. Yo can adj st
for either, and also adj st low eno gh for microphone inp ts with
below -30dB adj stment.
Direct Out
Left/Right XLR
B ffered post effects, post EQ signal for st dio or stage se.
O tp t impedance = 600 ohms. Each XLR connector is wired
to the standards for a dio. Pin 1 is shield, Pin 2 is signal pl s, and
Pin 3 is signal min s. Individ al connectors for Left and Right
channels allow for optim m stereo recording.
Direct Out
GND Lift
This switch allows yo to disconnect Pin 1 of the XLR connector
from the chassis gro nd. It is seldom necessary in properly b ilt
eq ipment, b t might be needed sometime. Leave in the Norm
position nless needed.

Post EQ EFX Send Level This adj sts the level to yo r effects nit. This will allow yo to
have eno gh of a signal to make the effects work well and yet not
overdrive it.
EFX Send Mono send to parallel mode effects nit inp t. Use a ¼ inch TS
(tip, sleeve) phone pl g. Note: this is an Input 1 post EQ signal
only.
Post EQ EFX From – L ( ono) Ret rn from left channel of effects nit (or se as mono only
ret rn).
Post EQ EFX From – R Ret rn from right channel of effects nit (if present).
EFX Return Level This switch allow yo to select the nominal signal level coming
from yo r effects nit, either +4dB (switch o t) or -10dB (switch

Pre EQ Insert
Send
This insert send follows the Input 1 Gain control and the Pedal loop on
the front panel. This signal is affected by the Input 1 Gain level and the
res lt of any Pedal loop control.
Pre EQ Insert
Return
This insert ret rn is prior to all of the effects and eq alization circ its.
This incl des Bro, Hum, Reverb, Wet/Dry fader, and all of the Input 1
Tone controls.
Preamp In Same f nction as the Preamp Input 1 connector on front panel. Front
panel connector takes precedence over rear panel connector. Insertion of
a pl g into the front panel connector a to-disconnects this rear inp t
connector. This red ces or eliminates possible noise so rces.
Aux Input
(stereo)
Use a ¼ inch stereo pl g to inject a dio from a CD or MP3 player for
home practice or live gigs. There are two stereo inp t connectors.
Insertion of a pl g into the front panel inp t connector a to-disconnects
rear inp t connector. Use the Aux (stereo) Level control to set m sic
level. Can also be sed as a second effects ret rn. If sed as second
effects ret rn, the rear t ner o t can be sed as effects send. See FAQ
sheet.

UESTIONS
How and when do I use the Input Impedance control?
The inp t impedance control is sed only when a direct connection from the pick p on yo r
instr ment to the preamp inp t is desired (“3-wire hook p”). The vol me pedal is then placed
in the PRE EQ EFX To/From (insert) on the rear panel for low noise control of the instr ment
vol me.
NOTE: Always set to maxim m (f lly rotated clockwise) if yo choose NOT to se the PRE EQ EFX
To/From feat re (“3-wire hook p”). This ens res the inp t will maintain proper high freq ency
response.
To adj st the impedance control properly, start with the impedance control f lly clockwise, and
then adj st all the preamp tone controls for the best so nd. Only after adj sting the controls to
taste sho ld yo make slight adj stments to the impedance control. Rotating it f lly co nter-
clockwise will eq al approximately 20 000 ohms (20 k ohms), which is eq al to the impedance
of many conventional inexpensive pedals made for g itars. This is almost always too low for
steel g itars.
Setting the inp t impedance control to the twelve o’clock position makes the inp t impedance
approximately 150 000 ohms (150 k ohms), which is eq ivalent to the most pop lar or generally
accepted setting for steel and jazz g itar electronic or “light style” pedals.
A setting of f ll clockwise will approximate the old AB pot pedals which were 500 000 ohms
(500 k ohms).
Some m sicians who have played for many years find their high freq ency hearing response has
degraded. M sicians nder these circ mstances may feel this control does not appear to do
m ch or anything. In this case, it is recommended to j st leave it set between positions 5 and 8
for the benefit of yo r listeners.
What’s a good setting to start with on the Preamp Gain control?
Between “4” and “6” is a good starting point. The Inp t Gain control delivers plenty of level so
be ca tio s in its se.
What are the frequencies covered by the id Freq control? id Level?
The “Mid Freq” control has a range from 250 Hz to abo t 1100 Hz. The range is scaled to val es
of, 250, 275, 300, 350, 400, 500, 600, 800 and 1000 Hz. The “Mid Level” control adj sts from
-16 dB c t at f ll CCW position to a +16 dB boost at f ll CW position.
What does the Blend control do?
This control is sed as an overall tone control to be sed only after setting the other tone controls
to yo r satisfaction. Rotating the knob clockwise yields a brighter more aggressive tone and
co nterclockwise res lts in a mellower, warmer tone. Straight p (zero) yields no change.
What’s a good setting to start with on the aster Level control?
Five is a good place to start. The Master Level control delivers plenty of level so be ca tio s in
its se.

What kind of headphones should I use?
Use low impedance (35-60 ohms) stereo closed or open style depending on personal preference.
Sony MDR 7505 headphones are recommended for best fidelity.
Can I drive speakers with the headphone jack?
It was designed for headphones. The preamp will deliver p to half a watt per channel into
eight ohms from its internal stereo headphone amp.
What does the red LED indicator show?
The Overload LED shows when the preamp enters soft clipping. Altho gh yo might see it
light p on rare occasions, yo ’ll probably never hear the difference. This LED indicates an
overload on the inp t or eq alizer circ its for Input 1 and Input 2. Red ce gain or adj st EQ of active
inp t to eliminate.
Tell me about the Tuner Out function.
The T ner O t jacks have a b ffer stage and circ itry which isolates both o tp ts of the t ner
from the rest of the circ itry eliminating a common so rce of noise. This circ it will not load
down the pick p or any preamp stage. The front and rear panel jacks can be sed at the same
time. The T ner O t can also be sed as an effects send.
What does the ute button do?
When engaged, the m te f nction allows the t ner, headphone amp, and effects send and ret rn
to remain on while the power amp send and XLR direct o t feed are disabled. This way yo can
practice at home or in between songs on stage witho t yo r power amp on and still get a stereo
feed to yo r headphones complete with stereo effects. Use it to m te yo r o tp t while changing
a string, t ning p or adj sting the effects nit.
Will pushing the ute button send a loud “pop” into my speakers, headphones or
the XLR Direct Out (the house feed) when I activate it?
No, the preamp employs silent m ting circ itry.
How do I use the Aux In feature?
The A x In may be sed to inp t stereo rhythm tracks or backgro nd m sic from CD or MP3
players. The A x In feat re can also f nction like a second stereo effects ret rn. It can be sed
as a way to inject practice m sic into the main channels and/or headphones or to add a second
effects ret rn. The amo nt of m sic or effects level is determined by the o tp t level of the
m sic or effects player and the A x In Level control.
Can I safely run phantom power into my Direct Out circuit?
While it is not necessary (nor a good idea) to r n phantom voltage into the Direct O t connector,
it is designed to withstand the IEC specified maxim m of 10 milliamps witho t damage.
What output level can I expect to see from the Direct Output connector?
The o tp t is approximately the same as the main o tp ts, p to 5 volts maxim m.
