The range is equipped with a retractable rear ventilation
intake and integral plenum. The plenum outlet,located under
the range may be connected to an integral blower or a
remote blower (purchased separately). See Pages 8 – 17.

To eliminate the risk of burns or fire by reaching over
heated surface units, cabinet storage space located
above the surface units should be avoided.
Instructions are based on Standard American cabinets
measuring 36" high x 24" deep.
CABINET
This unit is designed for installation in a countertop near
adjacent walls and projecting surfaces constructed of
combustible materials. There must be a minimum clearance
of 30 inches between the top of the cooking surface and
the bottom of an unprotected wood or metal cabinet; or
24 inches when bottom of wood or metal cabinet is
protected by not less than 1/4" of flame retardant material
covered with not less than No. 28 MSG sheet metal, 0.015
inch stainless steel,or 0.024 inch aluminum or copper. (See
Figure 1). The minimum horizontal distance from the side
and back edge of the unit to adjacent vertical combustible
walls are as follows: Zero clearance is permitted on rear,
right and left walls.
For the cabinets over the cooking surface and the adjacent
cabinets,the maximum cabinet depth from back wall is 13".

■VENTILATION AND CABINET CONSIDERATIONS
PREPARING CABINET
Use the dimensions in Figure 2 to make the countertop
cutout. The cutout center line must be the same as the
center line of the space between the cabinet side walls.
NOTICE. Some cabinet finishes
cannot survive the temperatures
allowed by U.L., particularly self–
cleaning ovens; the cabinets may
discolor or stain. This is most
noticeable with laminated cabinets. If
your cabinet company does not
approve a temperature of 180°F., the
range should be installed such that the
oven front frame does NOT line up
BEHIND the plane of the front of the
cabinet doors. The cabinets and
countertop must be flush with the
kitchen wall. The rear edge of the
cutout must be between 1-3/4" and
1-7/8" from the wall. In an island or
peninsula installation, first layout a
notch in the countertop on each side,
so the back of the notches line up
with the front of the cabinet doors
(see Figure 2). Lay out the remaining
dimensions positioned from the back
of these notches. Recommended
locations for gas supply and electrical
outlet are on the floor.To get more
available space, remove the existing
back brace (see Figure 27,Page 18) and use floor mounted
anti-tip bracket (see Figure 30, Page 19).
NOTE: Follow all measurements precisely.If working with
nonstandard cabinets,take care to alter the dimensions to
maintain the minimum clearances.

If nonstandard cabinets are used, care should be taken to
alter dimensions accordingly.
If you don’t have the optional toe kick accessory for your
range,you’ll need to fabricate the toe space cover according
to the specifications shown in Figure 3. This toe space
cover must be mounted so that it may be easily removed
for servicing. There must be 25" minimum dimension
between the top of the countertop and the top of the under
range panel. A minimum of 25 square inches air inlet is
required in the toe kick area. Warranty is not valid without
gap and inlet.

Be sure the unit being installed is compatible with
the type of gas available.The range is shipped from the
factory for use with natural gas. Conversion for use with
propane gas can be made by using a kit,NLPKIT 6 P/N 35-
00-688. Only a qualified technician or installer can convert
the range. This kit includes instructions for adjusting valves
and pressure regulator and contains new burner jets.The
RDDS model is equipped with an intermittent/interrupted
ignition device (ExtraLow®).
CAUTION: When connecting unit to propane gas,
make certain the propane gas tank is equipped with
its own high pressure regulator in addition to the
pressure regulator supplied with the appliance. The
gas supply to the appliance regulator must be a
minimum of 11.0" water column.The maximum gas
pressure to the appliance regulator is not to exceed
14.0" water column from the propane gas tank.

IMPORTANT NOTES
(a) The appliance and its individual shut-off valve must be
disconnected from the gas supply piping system during any
pressure testing of that system at test pressures in excess
of 1/2 psig (3.5kPa).
(b) The appliance must be isolated from the gas supply
piping system by closing its individual manual shut-off valve
during any pressure testing of the gas supply piping system
at test pressures equal to or less than 1/2 psig (3.5 kPa).
Always use pipe dope orTelflon® tape on the
pipe threads and be careful not to apply
excessive pressure when tightening the
fittings.
Turn on gas and check supply line connections
for leaks using a soap solution. Do not use a
flame of any sort.
PROPANE GAS
NATURAL GAS
The cooktop is shipped from the factory for use with natural
gas only. The gas supply to the appliance regulator must be
a minimum of 6.0" water column. The maximum gas
pressure to the range regulator shall not exceed 14"W. C.
For Massachusetts Installations:
1. Shut-off valve must be a “T” handle gas cock.
2. Flexible gas connector must not be longer than
36 inches.
3. Not approved for installation in a bedroom or
a bathroom unless unit is direct vent.

ELECTRICAL SUPPLY
(Electric and Gas models)
• The Range,provided with a 4' length of flex conduit and
conductors, shall be connected to a junction box
specified below.
• The electrical supply should be 3 wire,single phase,A.C.
with a grounded neutral.
• For electrical connection,a 4" x 4" junction box should
be placed within the shaded area. (See Figure 6). The
box has to be recessed into the wall. The maximum
protrusion of flex conduit and connector shall not
exceed 1-3/4" as shown in Figure 6.
GROUNDING
The unit is supplied with a flexible metallic conduit.
• If flexible metallic conduit is connected to a grounded
metallic conduit system, oven is grounded through the
metallic conduit.
• If local code permits grounding through the neutral,
connect both bare ground wire and white wire to white
wire neutral supply.
• If local code requires separate ground, separate white
wire and bare gound wire, connect white to white and
ground bare wire separately.
GAS CONNECTION (MODEL RDDS30V)
GAS CONNECTION
For gas units, a 1/2" N.P.T. wall gas supply can lie anywhere
within the shaded area. (See Figure 4). Attach a 1/2" N.P.T.
shut-off valve to the wall stub-out. The other end of the
valve should be connected to a 3/8" flexible gas connector -
(not supplied). The flexible connector shall be secured to
the pressure regulator located in the lower left area of the
range shown in Figure 5.

BLOWER ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
The electrical connection of either the integral or remote
blower shall be made on the right front corner of the plenum
as shown in Figures 7 & 8.
Based on the type of ventilation (integral or remote blower)
proceed with directions either 1 or 2.
1. Units using Integral Blower:
The integral blower is furnished with a cord and connector.
Insert cord connector into receptacle located in lower right
plenum bottom. See Figure 7.

2. Units using Remote Blower:
a) Wiring the Remote Blower
Wire connections between the range
and remote blower shall be made as
follows:
1. Remove plenum cover and
front rail for access to range
blower wiring. (See Figure 8.)
2. Grasp the five wires and cut
as close to molded connector as
possible.
3. Remove plug from electric
"knockout" from plenum bottom
(right front corner). Secure
remote blower flex conduit/wiring
to plenum conduit connector,
4. Connect color coded range
wires to remote blower wires
using wire nuts or approved splices.
(See Figure 9.)
5. Reinstall plenum cover and
front rail.

■INSTALLING THE VENTILATION
NOTE: Remove and discard shipping bracket (attached to
bottom of motor and inlet collar). Check to see if blower
wheel turns freely. Do not replace top until installation is
complete.
FRAMING:
1. Provide a square hole through the roof (or wall), as
shown by dashed lines, or cut a round hole to fit duct
with a separate hole for electrical conduit as shown by
solid lines in Figure 10. See Figure 12 for remote blowers
dimensions.
2. Install the Remote Blower on the roof or wall (with
discharge pointing down slope) according to the
Standard Roofing Procedures (front discharge edge
should be on the top of shingles and the rear edge
underneath the shingles). See Figure 12.
3. Connect blower to the exhaust system with 8 inch dia.
duct forVTR600R and 10" dia. duct forVTR1000Q and
VTR1400Q.Use adjustable elbow to adjust to roof angle.
Tape all joints to prevent air leaks.
NOTE: The unit must be sealed between the roof (or
wall) and the underside of the flange with roofing mastic to
prevent leaks. For installation on a flat roof, or roofs with a
pitch less than 1-1/2" in 12",install ventilator on the curb as
shown in Figure 11. Position the curb on flat roofs so that
the discharge (low) end points away from prevailing wind.

INSTALLINGTHEVENTILATION
The range is equipped with a factory installed ventilator
intake and an exhaust plenum which will not be shipped
separately. The plenum exhaust outlet is located below the
oven in the base area shown in Fig.14. An Integral Blower
Model VTN30Q or Remote Model VTR1000Q Blower
System must be installed with the range. (Blower systems
are purchased separately).
INSTALLING AN INTEGRAL BLOWER
THE VTN30Q blower may be mounted prior to or after
range installation depending on duct and taping variables.
The integral blower housing inlet (See Figure 15) fits over
the plenum outlet ring (Figure 14), and is secured to the
plenum with a blower mounting bracket.
The blower may be rotated in various directions to achieve
right side,left side,rear or floor venting. See pages 10 to 12
for specific installation steps.
Threaded rods included in the blower kit will be secured to
the mounting nuts "A" or "B" shown in Figure 15. Further
installation instructions are specified in the following
sections.
4. The duct put into the unit inlet blower should be taped
at the joint and the inlet collar.
5. Clearance to combustible material is 0".
6. Run electrical conduit up through extruded hole in
bottom of the remote blower. Connect it to the bottom
of the “J” box (Fig.13).

7. Run five #14 AWS wires (white, red, blue, black and
green) to the conduit,(Fig.13).For the wire connection
between the remote blower and range see page 7 and
Figs. 8 & 9.

4. Place blower inlet over plenum outlet ring (Figure
14), temporarily supporting blower with wood blocks.
5. Place slot end of blower mounting bracket over
rear mounting rod lower nut.
6. Rotate blower mounting bracket under blower for
support, removing wood blocks as necessary.
7. Place hole in blower mounting bracket over front
mounting rod and secure tightly with nut provided.
Insure gasket between blower and plenum is
compressed.

Remove the existing 1/4 – 20 screws from either
positions “A” or “B” and discard them.
2. Secure the rear mounting rod in either position "A"
or "B" as determined in Step 1. The rear mounting rod
has preset nuts on each end. Tighten nut against plenum.
3. Secure the front mounting rod in either position
"A" or "B" as determined in Step 1. The front mounting
rod has one preset nut which shall be tightened against
plenum.

1. Determine blower direction. Blower may be rotated
as indicated in Figs.18 and19 in order to miss wall studs.
Remove the existing 1/4 – 20 screws from either
positions “A” or “B” and discard them.
2. Secure the rear mounting rod in either position
"A" or "B", as determined in Step 1. The rear mounting
rod has preset nuts on each end. Tighten nut against
plenum.
3. Secure the front mounting rod in either position
"A" or "B" as determined in Step 1. The front mounting
rod has one preset nut which shall be tightened against
plenum.
VENTILATION
4. Place blower inlet over plenum outlet ring (Figure
14), temporarily supporting blower with wood blocks.
5. Place slot end of blower mounting bracket over
rear mounting rod lower nut.

1. Floor ducting with an integral blower requires ducting
to the left within the area shown in Figure 20. Floor
joists may be avoided by rotating the blower and using
Elbow Model #STL90R,(purchased separately). SeeTable
1, Page 17.
2. Secure the rear mounting rod in position "A". The
rear mounting rod has preset nuts on each end. Tighten
nut against plenum.
3. Secure the front mounting rod in position "A". The
front mounting rod has one preset nut which shall be
tightened against plenum.
4. Place blower inlet over plenum outlet ring (Figure
14), temporarily supporting blower with wood blocks.
5. Place slot end of blower mounting bracket over
rear mounting rod lower nut.
6. Rotate blower mounting bracket under blower for
support removing wood blocks as necessary.
7. Place hole in blower mounting bracket over front
mounting rod and secure tightly with nut provided. Insure
gasket between blower and plenum is compressed.
8. A short 90°Elbow Model STL90R (see page 17) is
available when integral blower exit hole through floor is
9-1/8" from centerline in Figure 20. A standard 6", 90°
elbow shall be used when hole is more than 9-1/8"
from .

The remote blower VTR1000Q, with 3-speed motor, is
recommended for roof and exterior wall installations. Other
remote blowers, without the 3-speed motor, are not
compatible with the range ventilation system.
Ducting adapters are available (purchased separately) to
connect the plenum exhaust to standard ducts. (See Figure
21.)
Exterior ducting may be routed right, left, rear, up rear wall,
above and below floor line. See Figure 22.

DETERMINING REMOTE BLOWER DUCTS AND FITTINGS
High levels of air flow provide better performance. For
best results, use larger duct and keep the duct length as
short as possible.
The VTR1000Q remote blower requires a 10" diameter
round duct to match the inlet ring. You will need to transition
from other duct sizes to achieve the 10" diameter. Be sure
to use proper transitions from one size duct to another.
NOTE: You need to calculate the equivalent lengths of
straight duct for each elbow or transition you use. See
Blower Duct Sizing Section, Page 15 to 17.
1. Select type of adapter (Figure 21) based on ducting
options (Fig 22).
- 3-1/4" x 10" adapter Model #RD310
or
- 7" Diameter Adapter Model #RD7
2. Apply foam gasket to flange (Figure 24).
3. Position adapter over exhaust plenum ring. Note: The
adapter's opening allows the choice of 4 positions (see
Figure 23A) or 2 positions (see Figure 23B).
4. Secure adapter in place with the two mounting brackets
shown in Figure 24. Tighten wing nuts to compress
gasket.

feet of rectangular duct equates to approximately 420
C.F.M.
BLOWER DUCT SIZING
Based on the blower position, determine the
required straight duct length and size, and the
number and types of elbows or transitions.
Calculate the total equivalent length using this
equation:A+B = C
A= Duct fitting equivalent straight length (use Table 1,
Page 17).
B= Straight duct length of smallest duct used.
C= Total equivalent straightlength of the smallest size
ducting used.
Use the value of C from Chart 1, Page 16 (Internal
Blower) or Chart 2 (Remote Blower) to determine the
C.F.M.
NOTE: We recommend a minimum of 350 cubic
feet per minute (C.F.M.) Flow for the range
downdraft system.
FOR EXAMPLE: An internal ventilation system, using
model VTN30RQ, would have a total equivalent length of
45 feet when using fittings noted on Page 17.

■ANTI-TIP BRACKET INSTALLATION
INSTALL ANTI-TIP BRACKET
Two anti-tip brackets are supplied. The wall mounted anti-
tip bracket shall be used when possible. An alternative floor
mounted bracket is provided when rear side to side bracket
must be removed to clear ducting. Figure 29
WALL MOUNTED ANTI-TIP BRACKET
Install anti-tip device as follows:
a) Adjust height of range and level by rotating the
adjustable leg supports, (See Figure 25) using 1/2"
wrench.
b) Attach anti-tip bracket to wall stud 1/4" maximum above
cross brace in back of oven. (See Figs. 26 & 27.) The
anti-tip bracket shall allow the range back brace to slide
under the anti-tip bracket (See Figure 26.)
c) If necessary add spacer between bracket and wall to
insure anti-tip bracket engagement.
d) Slide range into position insuring the range back brace
slides under the anti-tip bracket. Insure flexible gas
connections are not crimped.
e) Carefully tip range forward to insure that the anti-tip
bracket engages the range back brace and prevents tip-
over. See Figure 28.)
