CAUTION: The range of equipment
described here are not to be used in
conjunction with large quantities of
water. The introduction of water and the
resultant vapour could result in
premature component failure.
WARNING: Do not use flammable
solvents or combustible materials as fire
or explosion may occur. This equipment
uses components which may be a
source of ignition.
FUNCTION
To provide an accurate controlled temperature between ambient +5°C to +60°C.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
The range of large above ambient incubators are ideally suited to large scale
operations where volume throughput is desired.
The models feature heavy duty insulation and multi glazed door(s), these combine to
minimise heat loss, allow visual access to the product under evaluation whilst not
disturbing the operating conditions. The door(s) close on a magnetic gasket and are
further secured with positive action door latch(es).
The external is powder coated steel.
The desired operating temperature is set at the temperature controller. A signal from
the temperature sensor is monitored at the controller. The resultant calculated pulsed
output is directed to a solid state relay which switches power to a solid state relay
and to the ceiling mounted element(s).
The circulating fans gently move the air across the element(s) exiting at the rear
perforated panel, throughout the chamber before rising to the fan inlets at the ceiling.
To minimise loss of conditions, the circulating fans will be isolated when the door(s)
are open and restart upon closure.
PERFORMANCE
The operating range for this equipment is ambient +5°C to 60°C with a control
accuracy of 0.2°C.
MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE
For this product is 60°C.
C-TICK
The equipment referred to here complies with requirement of AS/NZS 1044:1995
electromagnetic interference (EMI).

INSTALLATION (Refer to Unpacking Page 2)
Place the equipment in a well-ventilated area, on a firm level surface and ensure that
a suitable power supply is available. Allow sufficient room for the door to open fully.
WARNING: Ensure that the electrical
outlet is earthed and is of the correct
voltage and is capable of carrying the
equipment stated current load (AMPS).
MAINTENANCE
The Thermoline Scientific range of large capacity incubators requires no routine
maintenance other than normal levels of cleanliness.
The external surface powder coated steel and the inner surface stainless steel may
be wiped clean using a damp, soft cloth.
Note: Stainless steel is under most conditions extremely resistant to corrosion. This
is in part due to the addition of chromium and nickel to the steel and the formation of
a durable chromium oxide at the surface during the manufacturing process. There
are several chemicals which will attack the surface of stainless steel, plus the lack of
oxygen at the surface will cause rusting, corrosion and pitting. Distilled/Deionised
water is particularly corrosive. To minimise, maintain a Neutral pH (7-9).
Always have in place a program of regular cleaning using a soft damp cloth with a
mild solution of soap and water and allow to dry.

This is a combination power switch and circuit breaker, when pressed this switch
allows power to be supplied to the controls. Incorporated in the face of the switch is a
’MAINS ON’ indicating light.
CAUTION: The equipment is fitted with a combination circuit
breaker, mains switch. If the circuit breaker continues to trip, it
may indicate an electrical fault exists. Switch Off the power and
consult a qualified technician.
TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER / SENSOR
This is a Eurotherm 3216 PID control with digital temperature indication of both the
set value and the operating value to 0.1°C.
Engineering parameters are configured to provide stable temperature control with the
minimum over shoot and quick recovery times.
Sensor type is a DIN standard platinum resistance bulb, RTD Pt100.

ELECTRICAL - POWER LEAD
A removable mains power lead with a three pin plug and right angle female IEC
socket is supplied for connection between the male IEC socket located at the
Top left side and a ten (10) Amp General Purpose Outlet (G.P.O.)
OVER TEMPERATURE INDICATION
All Eurotherm 3216 controllers are fitted with an automatic over temperature alarm. In
the event of a malfunction of the Thermoline product, the alarm will switch off all
forms of heating if the actual temperature exceeds the set temperature by 2.0°C. This
will be indicated by a red flashing indicator and a scrolling message of ‘Over
Temperature’ on the bottom display of the controller.
OPERATION
WARNING: 1. To avoid injury do not use flammable solvents in this
equipment, as fire or explosion may result. This cabinet contains
components that may ignite such materials.
WARNING: 2. Do not introduce water into this equipment as the
excessive vapour may result in premature component failure.
OPERATING THE INCUBATOR
1) Ensure that the incubator is located as previously described, refer to the
index, LOCATION, Page 2.
2) Position the mains switch to the ON position (reset) and immediately the
circulating fans will start and the controller will go through a short initiation
period, the two displays will then indicate the operating value at the top and
the set value at the lower display.
3) The temperature controller is a Eurotherm 3216 microprocessor based
instrument which has been factory configured for range, sensor type, and
engineering parameters for optimum control.
Limited access to the control is available to the operator, refer to the index,
CALIBRATION.
4) To minimise temperature (spacial) variation within the incubator, ensure that
the product is evenly distributed. Do Not allow product to obstruct the rear
perforated air outlet panel.

CAUTION: The fan isolate switch located at each door
will prevent air circulation until the door(s) are fully
closed.
5) CHANGING THE SET VALUE (SP)
SENSOR CALIBRATION
This control function corrects the input value received from the sensor.
Often a sensor cannot be positioned where control is required. Due to the remote
location of the sensor the measuring value may deviate from the value measured at
the mid point of the working volume.
In such cases a correction value is entered at the controller shifting the input value of
the sensor.
This correction value is first entered when the equipment is under test at the factory.
Further small adjustments can be made by the operator to compensate for small
system calibration errors.
MEASURING EQUIPMENT
Ensure that the equipment used to verify the temperature at the desired location is
appropriate for the conditions, and it has a current certificate of calibration to a
traceable source issued by a registered organisation.
Use the up and down arrows
to change the Set Value(SP)
in the lower display. When
the desired SP is reached
leave for 2 seconds and the
digits will flash to confirm
entry.
The SP has been changed to
40.0 degrees in this image.

OPTIONS:
RETRANSMISSION:
The Eurotherm 3216 temperature and humidity controls can both be fitted with a DC
Linear Output, which can retransmit the temperature and humidity signals to an
external building management system. The building management system can then
record or log the temperature and humidity using this signal. The retransmitted
signal is an industry standard 4 to 20 milliamps.
4 milliamps represents either 0ºC or 0%RH, and 20 milliamps represents either
100ºC or 100%RH.
Retransmission Signal Connection (Optional): A socket is located on the side of
the cabinet for connection to an outside monitoring system, which is able to accept
the 4-20mA signals, representing 0.0 to 100.0°C and 0 to 100% RH. Maximum load
to be applied to the analogue output is 500 ohms.
Pin connections for retransmission socket:
ALARMS:
No volt alarm:
Some building management systems require a simple contact closure during an
alarm condition. The Eurotherm temperature and humidity controls can be fitted with
optional alarms that will provide a contact closure under a wide range of alarm
conditions (high or low temperature/humidity, deviation away from set point, power
loss, etc.).
A socket for connection of the alarms can be provided for in house monitoring,
usually on the side of the cabinet.
Press the scroll key again to
return to the original screen.
The offset value will have
changed to the new value.
The instrument will then
increase or decrease the
output to alter the operating
value.
