EachTS‐1sensorcontainsa3‐axis360°sensorelementwhichmustbeconfigureddependingonthe
mountingposition.TheTS‐1TiltSensorscanbemountedinmanyorientationsaslongastheyareparallel
totheaxisbeingmeasured(Figure12).Locatesurfacesthatprotectthesensorfromphysicaldamageand
areconvenientforcablerouting.Whenthepositionoftheimplementisatzerodegrees(horizontal),
makeanoteofthedirectionofthearrowmarkeronthesensornameplate.Thisdirectionisneeded
duringcalibration.Thecalibrationprocessuses3D‐MCtoenterdirection,orientation,andothersensor
variables.

TS-i3 Sensor Installation
EachTS‐i3sensorcontainsasingleordualaxissensorelement,andwillbedifferentdependingon
wheretheyaremounted.Sensorsmountedonthestick,boomandbucketaresingleaxis,andareonly
mountedinaleftorrightorientation.Thesensormountedonthebodyisdualaxis,andismounted
onlywithaleft,right,orflatorientation.
Wheninstallingthesensors,ensurethattheyaremountedparalleltotheaxisbeingmeasuredwith
thedirectionarrowpointingawayfromthecab(Figure13).Locatesurfacesthatprotectthesensor
fromphysicaldamageandareconvenientforcablerouting.Whenthepositionoftheimplementisat
zerodegrees(horizontal),makeanoteofthedirectionofthearrowmarkerontheseriallabel(located
onthetopofthesensor).Thisdirectionisneededduringcalibration.Thecalibrationprocessuses3D‐
MCtoenterdirection,orientation,andothersensorvariables.

Anoptionallocationforthebucketsensorisonthedog‐bone.Thislocationoffersadditional
protectionofthesensor,butproduceslessaccuratereadings(especiallyifthejointsareworn).If
possible,placingthesensorontheinsideofthedog‐bonewillprovideadditionalprotection.
Mountingthesensoronthedog‐bonerequiresadditionalcalibrationsteps.
